Title: ZCT47 - Icecream Telephone
Post by: zaqrack on January 02, 2005, 12:09:31 PM
after some packaging troubles, the new track is finally available. usual comments, rants, rumbles here.

Zak lost something... the sense to build good tracks. What is this? Icy, only RH-based suffer, to avoid newbies. And it is spiced with GTO. Congratulations Zak, reaaly nice work...  :?

Zak, you don't have to check the IP of this guest, I can tell you where "guest sector" is.  :) After reading this message, I think CTG will win, or at least he will be in top3 this month. (See what he said about ZCT 45...)

Usrin: there's no connection between the quality of the tracks and my final ranking. I crappy track also needs a winner. That was Z45 (and that won't be Z47... khmmmm... I retired :D)

But there's a very strong connection between the volume of your crying and your final ranking... not only in Stunts.

btw it started to be an easy track, but then I thought it'll be too easy, and modified with a bit of ice, and sharp corners. Sorry :) I guess it's not that hard, except for 2 places maybe, but there you can lose tons of time.

Zak: I really don't care, I promised to myself to give up racing (in ZSC). Still 3 races left from my carrier as I have to finish USC. Nothing more... :)

About the track once again: there's only a few step and will reach the level of my "Borzalom" track built in 1998 (Akoss will tell you what was it  :) ).

Quite nice track actually, although there's a lack of comfort in the design. (it's not cozy racing on it like it was on 34, 38, 41, 42, 43, 46)
I think it will be an interesting and hard race, but with a huge gap between top and bottom, and not that many pipsqueaks (16-17)

Rotoi is back, it continues from February 2003. It will be really a nice battle!

About pipsqueak's number: I think there will be about 20 pipsqueaks - with some motivated newbies.

According to track and the coming back of the REAL Alan Rotoi, let's say that podium for Z47 will be :
1st : Alan Rotoi
2nd : Gutix
3rd : Ayrton (promising newbie for ZakStunts, but regular top driver at 4DSL and WSC).
I also think Dark Chaser can surprise some pipsqueaks at this track. He is a good icy pipsqueak.

Dark Chaser is not a GTO expert... If Argammon races then I wait for Rotoi, BJ, Argammon podium. If not, then Gutix will be the 3rd.

Yes I think Ayrton will be a top driver soon. He received my replays and I think Gutix's too. You know, a newbie needs some help at the beginning but after a couple of months he can beat almost everybody :)

Chulk has great skills and motivation. I think he has the same skills as Dark Chaser. They will have a great year in zakstunts.

Of course, newcomers need some help. With teamwork, Dark Chaser will be a regular top 10 driver this year.

And 2005 will probably be a hard fight for each place with all current regular pipsqueaks, newcomers from south america, and old legends back at their top (I hope to see at their top and regularly here Alain, Argy, BJ and Alan).

I think IF everyone would race at full motivation........
The INDY would go to Alan,Gutix or BJ akoss?????????
the IMSA would go to Alan,Gutix or BJ
slow power gear cars could go to Alan Gutix BJ Arg Alain
Lm002 Lambocountach audi would go to Arg
Lancia could go to anyone of the above
911 is so crap I am not sure :)
And I proly forgot some......
Well that's my opinion ,so don't flame me if you disagree :X

I think the car + pipsqueak does mean almost nothing. The track is a very important variable. The best example I can say is about Acura NSX: in zct16 I won by 9 seconds over the second and in zct23 I was 10th!!

PS: If you want to know my opinion about zct23 take a look on my profile ;)

Interesting.
According to Akoss:
Argammon could win 7
Bonzai Joe could win 6
Alanrotoi could win 6
Gutix could win 5
Alain could win 5
Akoss could win 3
Title: ZCT47 - Icecream Telephone
Post by: BonzaiJoe on January 07, 2005, 12:10:13 PM
But unfortunately, the interesting thing is not who could win, but who does win (Gutix) :D By the way, the Lamborghini Countach seems to be my best car. on ZCT5 I wasn't racing, on ZCT19 I won by 8 seconds, on ZCT33 I was second (3 seconds behind Argammon), and on ZCT42 I won by 6 seconds.

I also like the Ferrari, though I have yet to win a Zakstunts Ferrari race:
ZCT3: second after Roy Wiegerinck
ZCT11: second after Roy Wiegerinck
ZCT39: second after Alain
ZCT47: winner by 20 seconds :D
Bayonne: winner
ACT11: winner

(ZCT31, Debrecen and Oroshaza have been erased from Stunts history  8))

Regardless of everything though, the Indy will remain my favourite car.

gimme a car, gimme a track, gimme a month and gimme ten liters of soda.

gimme ten opponents at full motivation.

I win.

all time PORSCHE MARCH INDY CAR masters: alanrotoi, alain, Tsino, Gutix, bonzai joe, akoss poo, mark nailwood, cap.

With indy, alanrotoi is the best driver. With indy I am only the second on pure driving and the best on trick finding or powergear.

other cars: other cars are too slow!

Hmm We are not able to say 100% "this" is the best in "that" car. It depends of:

- Motivation
- Car
- Track
- Hours raced
- Competition XP

Also I think we can't compare present pipsqueaks with a different "generation". It's like guessing present US Army against the mongols. You know who will win because there are different ways of playing in every generation. There is no comparation.

BTW we can guess who's the best Car builder ;), it is possible to vote the most original car

Hm, if I drive on this PC with Windows XP, every key press is recognized with delay only. Real driving is nearly impossible. :?
In addition to that, the PC Speaker of this new computer is too quiet to hear everything clearly. So I use VDMSound to have REAL sound. But then the delay is even bigger...

Post by: zaqrack on January 20, 2005, 09:43:35 PM
Alain, thats not true. I dont think it'd ever run fine under XP on my slower machine. Computing power is very important at emulations. I dunno what the dos emulation in XP needs, but i do know about dosbox:

ctrl+f12 is CPU emulation speed. Increase it until your real CPU load is around 96% (well i dunno how to check it in win, in linux its easy ;))
ctrl+f8 is frameskipping. increase it when you have achieved 96% CPU load, and the game still runs slow.
According to my research you need about an 1200-1700mhz processor to play stunts effectively from dosbox. I have only 876, so I'll stick to rebooting to dos ;)
Title: ZCT47 - Icecream Telephone
Post by: DieselJoe on January 22, 2005, 01:15:38 PM
Well, I think the game runs at normal speed, it's just the keypresses...

But it doesn't matter, when I play I copy the track and replay files (they aren't THAT big ) to an older computer. A P133 with Win98. Everything runs fine there and the PC Speaker is REALLY loud! Great sound! :D

i am playing under win XP without any emulator ALL the time.

i even played my 1.10 under xp OS

i have a pentium III 800 mhz and stunts in c:\stunts i launch stunts_k.exe and it works good. i just play.

i didnt understand your problem does it relate to a computer slower than a pentium III?

or to stunts under dosbox. because under dosbox, it is unplayable. i use an emulator to capture the stunts movies. i eventually tried to use dosbox in that purpose and it was slower than another program called "something workstation" and i would have made more movies of replays if i had a good emulator to open stunts in a window inside windows XP. (because i use a capture screen program to capture the window where stunts is playing)

As I already said, it doesn't matter. But if you really want to know...

I have a PentiumIV with 2GHz. I think when I play without emulation, the keypress delay isn't that big. But as I already said, this computer has a too quiet PC Speaker. And for me sound is important for driving. So I already tried 2 emulators: DosBox and VDMSound. As only this computer is connected with the Internet, I still use an emulated Stunts here to watch the replays from my teammates, but I drive on another one. No problems.

Post by: al il professore on January 22, 2005, 09:36:49 PM
my 1.09 also was:

played under xp
without checkpoints
without any serious curve replaying

but we are entering the last week, and i will start playing with checkpoints, on my old PC and with serious curve replay handling (trying to win each time the missing 0.05 second) now, because i found the perfect combination of trix on this track.

this is what a champion is made of.

you should come back, gutix.

It's interesting that it seems to have paid off to drive the loop 3 times, but Alain's beginning might be fast enough to do the same powergear trick alanrotoi did but much faster???

I also like Alain's 'trick' he did at the first high road to drive the curve faster,I did about the same on the lm002 one year ago,now I could wonder why I didn't try it again,ah well....

Anyways congratulations to both of ya (alan, alain) for the nice battle...

I thought you hadn't realized what it meant, but you really don't know  :o.  I'm surprised as I consider you have one of the largest vocabulay amongst us...

The Greek prefix "Oligo" means Few (Like Oligarchy, government of a few - Oligopoly means only a few control the market), so Oligoway should mean something like "few ways", and remeberring the track, name is really accurate.

May I intervene with the observation that the track contained in our discourse had no less than three juxtaposed branches, which transpires to exceed the ostensible average number in Zakstunts regie, hence rendering the denomination semantically misleading  ;)

Thanks for the explanation! I still think it's a really weird name. I was familiar with the word "oligarchy" and its meaning, but I couldn't make that fit with "oligoway" and I still think it makes very little sense.

Quote from: WikipediaAn oligosaccharide is a saccharide polymer containing a small number (typically three to ten) of component sugars, also known as simple sugars. The name derived from the Greek oligos, meaning "a few".

well it is quite obvious, and maybe a bit disappointing as well...

The track had lots of ice -> icecream
And while I was brainstorming about the track name I received a phone call -> telephone

so the name was born.  ;D

I don't think it's totally disappointing... Not anyone would think about naming things after the events happening during their creation. It's like if a baby was named "Storm" because it was born on a stormy night. Or "CafĂ© Latte Storm" if it was a half white/half black baby born during a storm  :D
