Title: The future of the portal
Post by: zaqrack on June 09, 2005, 03:21:35 PM
Well I finally had some time (don't want to learn marketing, d'oh :)) to care about the portal a bit.
I divided to competitions to active/inactive ones, and also removed the outdated stuff as well:

live race pages
useless links
and also the games section

you might know about it but almost all the abandonware rings have closed down, no people came for the games, so it was pointless to keep it up.

Now the portal looks very empty.
I considered shutting it down, but then I thought its still useful

1. there is no other listing of all the stunts competitions on one site
2. the portal is linked from many pages like the stunts wikipedia, and several froums, bringing 5-10 visitors/day.

However, I'd like to see the portal a little bit more alive.
If you have any suggestions what to put there and how to make it more alive/ maybe attract more visitors, just tell me.

some ideas:

1. Alain could again write articles as he did in Stuntsrus
2. New times could be posted out to the portal - i don't think this would work for a long time
3. pipsqueaks could start writing racing blogs about why they drive/dont drive
4. The forum might get integrated with the portal, as the main meeting point for the community.

I think the portal will might get a new engine. A portal-engine, where regustered users can post articles, others can comment on them, and you can access many other things. This would combine all my ideas in one :)

It's worth a try.
At least it's better than learning marketing :D

We can start with adding another active competition : Stunts Brasil (http://stuntsbrasil.rg3.net), which is back after one month stop.

I think still there are interesting stuff in some inactive competitions like kalpen's or 4dsl.

There is a very interesting section about tricks in 4dstunts that may help to the pipsqueaks. Even Bonza Joe told me he learnt a trick there ^_^.

The portal is fine as it is, I think, being a portal... of course adding new stuff is great, but not too much. I think having pipsqueak blogs there might be taking it a bit too far.

Live races section was useful as base of statistics but it's dead now... Suggestion to Zak: make live races in 2006 for some bonus points! :)

Kalpen's is inactive??? No way, mate, take a look, please!  :-)

Zak, you should not close down the SP at all! This portal really works as a portal. People come here and find the forum and the active and most interesting sites (from which they can go further). Let the portal be one of the main knots of the Stunts internet community.

BTW I agree to what BJ wrote (like I always do because he's a god and I won't contradict at all  :) )

Dunno about the name, but link is also at www.fstunts.tk : crappy tracks, really crappy tracks. But still active, dunno why.
Stunts Brazil (http://www.stuntsbrasil.rg3.net/) is dead since august 2005.
WSC (wsc.mundopc.net) is paused until March, competition activity is March to December at WSC.

About portal additions, I think Stunts CD iso would be interesting for newcomers. I'm updating a lot the "list" file with new infos, and I managed to get all tracks and replays from Luke's old competition (I thought pages were deleted as websites leads to nowhere but I managed to find them hidden on its website ! :-D )
List file updated and new tracks and replays coming soon at Stunts CD topic of the forum. I think we should do that kind of update every year with new tracks/replays/results of last year (that's what I'mdoing for the 2nd half of 2005).

(...)

First of all, thanks Krys for that, I was about to write the same about WSC.

About the meaning of F Stunts, it comes from Formula 1 or F1, instead of F1, F Stunts. I did something alike with WSC, that comes from WRC. About the tracks, Nico is the organizer of the competition, so he make the tracks the way he likes. If he likes "crappy" (simple and easy) tracks, I don't think there should be any trouble.
I don't know why the competition is still active, especially after what he did last year (he suddenly discontinued the competition in the middle of the season without any explanation), also he doesn't give his competition nor the page the care they require. If you ask me, the reason for all is that he is just a kid (12 o 13 years old), and as a kid, sometimes he gets excited about something, but then he loses the interest.

Finally, I'm sorry if my English isn't good, it's been a long time since last time I had to write something in this language.

Yep, that's why I wrote "I don't know why it's still active", his 1st competition lasted 4 races, and winner of the 4th was never published.
Anyway, I raced the 1st track because even if it was a very easy one the 15-seconds-shortcuts-only rule could be interesting for the track. But he deleted my time from the scoreboard for unknown reason. :x

The future is in the past. 2000 was the future, then the future was 6 years-ago.

Yes, it's such a great page! And I've always suggested Dante's Inferno as a competition track...
