Title: ZCT 77 - Offroad
Post by: Krys TOFF on June 11, 2007, 03:29:29 PM
Track design in progress.
Special rule for this track : checkpoints and offroad race.
Car : Audi Quattro Sport (logical : a rally car for an offroad race). ;)

It's really getting more T?ffStunts than Zak's... :D

Yep, looks like... :P

Just one question: why are we talking about the new track, if it will start in 20 days? ??? (is there something I'm missing?)

To let everyone remember that ZakStunts is not dead. It seems only a few replays are sent last days, so it's a way to make people think of current track (and expect the next too, but not so soon in the month).

Ok... That reminds me that I haven't raced this month... yet  ;)

I like the car too, but I won't say anything about the offroad racing (yet), because I'm not sure what is he talking about. Somehow I feel it will be something like in Trackmania Nations "offroad" tracks, but it can't be right...

I think Krys are talking about a race on many dirt elements and/or with many shortcuts available... Isn't it, Krys...?  ;)

I like "many shortcuts available" but I really dislike "many dirt elements". Which one is it Krys?

Audi is great, offroad too. ;D

Off road doesn't mean dirt roads (even if there will be some dirt road elements). It means off road. ;D

some explanations :
- small round track to make it valid regarding Stunts game engine
- 5 tunnels used as checkpoints
- many roads and Stunts elements in the map, not a clear track
- you have to go through each tunnel (not jumping above, going through is required) to valid checkpoint crossing
- pathway used and checkpoint order is your own choice
- once the 5 checkpoints have been crossed, then go to the finish line

Then I was right :P

I don't have a strong opinion about it yet, because I haven't race any track like that before, but it sounds great!

Main difficulty is to balance properly the different possible orders to cross the checkpoints. It should be fun, once the track is finished, to watch the replays and see the ways chosen by the pipsqueaks.

Well, it sounds really dazzling!
And, if I knew well, penalty time won't be a problem... Am I wrong...?  ;)

I think you're right as Krys said there will be a round track to prevent stunts engine from failing.

I did some tests yesterday evening and I modified the position of one checkpoint to be sure nobody will have penalty whatever the way chosen to cross the checkpoints : I put one checkpoint in the small round track. ;D

I have to modify again some parts because for the moment one way is obviously faster than the others.
Other tests planned this week and when it will be correct I'll add the scenery and send it to Zak with a slow demo replay made in auto gears.

For info, this concept is close to what you'll encounter in the Paris-Stunts-Dakar (PSD) event of the future Stunts Career project. Except that with PSD finish line won't be same as starting line, like real rally-raid.

LOL it sounds like an idea of mine from 2003. My concept was to build a very long track and each races would complete a smaller section of it. I never published such a race because I thought nobody will find it interesting and Mingva would cry about the possible cheats...

PSD will reproduce the map of south Europe and north Africa. But it will have only 4 steps and not a lot more like real Dakar race (which is not starting in Paris anymore sadly).

My track map is already printed  :P

Would you be so kind as to change the horizont? I think it makes my Stunts frozen (80%). When it works, it makes me sick. Please change it!!!

According to the track I thought it was a perfect weird horizon. :P
I don't know why Stunts crash would be due to it... I did numerous tests during "track" creation and game never crashed.
But if it's ok for Zak we can change the horizon, no problem.

Great race, as I thought!  :)
But I'll test the track only tomorrow, in the evening my first time...   ;)

Simply I couldn't wait... ;)  My time is easily beatable. But I think there are only two ways to follow aiming the victory, and one of them appears faster than other one... But maybe I'm wrong, and anyway I hope there won't be a pink (red or yellow or blue or green or whatever colour you want...) line to describe in a whatever picture a suggested best way! :)

Shall we add the penalty time? I got +3 seconds.

Add it if you get some, but you can also avoid to get penalty. ;D

I can, but it's shorter even with penalty ;D

Zak : the map in "explain me" is the one of Z76, not Z77. ;)
Title: Re: ZCT 77 - Offroad

About the two ways: they are too obvious. The five tunnels form a track and the question is which direction of this track is better (left or straight at the beginning).

Before CTG draws the map with ASCII  ;) let me ask Krys: are we allowed to eventually pass a checpoint twice?

Sure, or 3 times, or 4 times, or even more if you like. :D
Goal is to pass all checkpoints at least once, the rest is up to you. ;)
