Title: what permanent competition...
Post by: al il professore on February 14, 2003, 11:40:19 PM
i played once on default and exploded the previous record in the sky. no matter who plays against u there, u will be beaten by alanrotoi... dont play in permanent competition, its permanent. u still got time when america empire has fallen to prove u are the best at permanent competition. once upon a time, someone said that here the times were the best in all time. prove it. drive your best, and u can say, noone had race faster than me on default track or joes curves... magic
Title: Perm. comp.
Post by: BonzaiJoe on February 15, 2003, 02:24:51 PM
It's the Zakstunts drivers against the tracks! We just need to drive them as fast as possible, whether it's Rotoi or me or someone else... I'll send anyone all my perm. comp. replays if you want to see them, so that we can improve even more and find new tricks. I think that's what it's about. After all, there will be no winner.

You could start with Default - many of the top replays for the standard version of the track were made public, as Default was used for Z79. The replays were shipped with Z80 pack, located at http://zak.stunts.hu/arc/zctc80.zip (http://zak.stunts.hu/arc/zctc80.zip) . Those replays will give you a lively display of the wonders of dual-way switching, and then the records on some of the other perm-tracks won't appear to be so unreal...

Although one must say that Default is clearly the easiest of the permanent tracks.

Maybe it's time to re-drive these tracks...

Yes. All of the records are pretty solid though.

My records on Bernie's and Skid's should be beatable, but not by much.
Default:  ???
Joe's: There's some PG way I haven't imagined yet. Don't know the quality of the record.
Cherry's, Helen's: very hard to beat.

Btw, what is your favourite permanent competition track (I mean the original ones)? Has it ever been a question?
Title: Re: what permanent competition...

They all seem the same. Indy power gear all the way. I think my favourite is Cherry's though. Historically that's been a really fun one to race on.

Currently our total time is: 9:23.85

In comparison the total record time when I checked the records in December 2000 or January 2001 on Lukas Löehrer's site was 14:20.80, which means we have shaved almost 5 minutes off the records. 50 seconds per track. I rarely say this but: LOL. Theoretically we could start the race, take a pee, go to the fridge and get a drink, sit down again, start racing and still beat the 2001 record.

When was the last time anybody sending a replay for permanent tracks?

Occasionally. Sometimes I forget to update though :(

The question is: when will someone do Default in less than 30 seconds?
I can't believe we're asking this. There as a time when "under 1 minute" was unimaginable.

When was that? Long time ago I have seen some hungarian forum messages from 1997 or 1998 discussing how they drove 58 seconds. Probably it was only their fairy tale, but somebody described the way switching part, so maybe not...

I should give a try to these tracks again. It would be a useful test to measure how I lost my skills in the last few years.

I mean the time when we didn't know or imagine the basic way-switch.  I found out about it only when I visited Lukas Löehrer's site and saw the permanent competition records in 2001. I will never forget the record table:

Default: 0.54.70
Bernie's: 2.00.30
Joe's: 1.11.10
Cherry's: 3.43.00
Helen's: 4.56.00
Skid's: 1.38.70

I thought those were unbelievably strong times.

I think I should rather implement the automatic update as for the normal scoreboard. It's just a couple of hours coding... please stay tuned...

I still don't think the closed tracks are of any real significance. There's no general set of rules. Some of them are with ISA rules, some of them OWOOT but allowing shortcuts and dual-way switching, and some of them are based on the weird watery versions of the original tracks.
Title: Re: what permanent competition...
Post by: BonzaiJoe on March 28, 2013, 05:30:47 PM
I think the problem with Skid's is that it's too easy. The Biker doesn't have the advantage of being able to pull off 32489395324 hours of very dedicated and professional RH here because any decent pipsqueak can drive a near-perfect lap on Skids within 30 minutes.

But still, they are part of permanent competition's history. No extra regulations, please.

I would leave them out too. We can race on any track pretending it's important than.. (which is not a bad idea, but I find closed tracks based on default tracks annoying)

If closed tracks will be removed from permanent section, I'll re-publish them in USC.

(You can agree or disagree, but so many pipsqueaks pushed hard on these tracks - they should stay in permanent status. Even if not as the part of the "classic" permanents.)

I don't mind that they are there, I just think that when we compare results on permanent tracks, it makes no sense if they are counted.

Quote from: ZakStunts, Permanent tracks section (emphasis added by me)
These are permanent competitions (they last forever) on the default tracks shipped with stunts, and on the closed versions of these. Simply download the tracks if you don`t have them, race on it, and send the replay. Rules are simple, you can use any car (not tuned of course!), and replay handling. Your name will be listed here, doesn't matter what place you achieve.
Good luck!

So... closed tracks should really stay. :D

Btw what about an expanded permanent competition? All the original+closed tracks, separate scoreboard for each cars (original pack + any other non-rocket car ever used in ZakStunts). Since nobody has enough time to play for leading all the scoreboards, it would give a nice and more balanced eternal competition.  ;)

I remember 2002, when permanent records were still at human level - any newbies could make a TOP3 result. I think the huge amount of different options would give some enthusiasm to the non-addict players, too.
