Title: Annoying things
Post by: Chulk on July 31, 2008, 12:16:50 AM
Hi there, I'm just back home from the market and decided I wanted to create a post for those annoying things that happen around us daily.

I was on my way back home just a few minutes ago when a man came to me and asked me what time it was. There's nothing annoying on that, but the man touched his wrist. Maybe this is not annoying for you but it is to me as it's pointless... I'm sure he doesn't grab his balls when he asks for a WC!

Waiting for those things that annoy you and I'll post more as soon as they come to my mind.

It can be convenient if there's a loud background and he can't be sure you'd be able to hear him.

I'm always annoyed when people walk really slowly, or if they drive slowly side by side on the bike trail.

I was slightly annoyed this morning when I was coming to the office, there was virtually no rain, just some drops, but still, every Chinese woman simply HAD to use an umbrella. As for me it was back wind, for them it was head wind, they put the umbrella partly in front of their face, and strolled down on the street opposite my direction, so they were walking virtually blind, and I had to avoid them all the way to the office.

I hate umbrellas anyway, they are always just in my eye-level...

It was a quite background, so no need to do that.

I've been there too... And another one happened to me. I was buying a chocolate bar and when the girl gave it to me, she broke it in halves. And then she said she couldn't give me a different one because her boss didn't allowed it. Of course I complained a bit a ended up having an unbroken chocolate. ;)

As a revenge, I'm annoying the world!

I am truly annoyed at doctor's mistakes! My beloved grandmother died Sunday in a "very simple and absolutely non-dangerous" operation and this is the fourth time something like this happens to one in my family.

In the "lighter" area I am annoyed at people who think they can be rude to you just because you work at Mc Donald's, at (all the) people who refuse to have anything to do with the deeper things in life (poetry, melancholy beauty and so on) and at gulls in general! :)

And it is stallin incredible how the health system lets people die, and so many of your family. You'd think in a country like Denmark this would not happen, how wrong...

And yes, those McDonalds customers suck, but you already knew that! You don't work in McDonalds to get in touch with the most kind and interesting people in town :)
About the people who won't get in touch with the interesting things: bless them! They don't annoy me :) I like how they are different from me and we are all so diverse. Not sure what to think about gulls.

Delicious but not THAT unique.

Quote from: BonzaiJoe on August 07, 2008, 12:09:45 PM
Borsodi

Belgian, Polish, Czech/Slovakian, Danish, German and even French beers are better. Borsodi is an average non-quality beer with low alcohol content... (of course it's also a symbol for poor alcoholists ;D)

Shared with other countries. There are many other nice rivers like Wisla in Poland.

thanks for your words about my grandma....what awful weeks it has been.

A gull is a quite big bird which screams in a very loud and annoying way when it sees food (or whatever it is that makes it scream). I live in a very beautiful area with huge trees, the most beautiful roses and so on, where I like to walk around alone or drink wine with my friends...the problem is that many people like to bring their food here and when the last of them leave in the middle of the night, the gulls come and keep me from sleeping :)

BTW...talking about people acting strange in Mc Donald's...yesterday someone (who wasn't a baby or an animal) shit on the floor! Really shit on the floor!

I fell with my bike, my ribs hurt and my palm hurts.
The doctor made an x-ray, said nothing is broken. Actually first they wanted to x-ray a wrong finger. I corrected them. They take photos of my finger but not the bones inside my palm.
I think they were wrong and its broken.

Still, annoying...

just don't try to cheat because thats what they are trying to detect :)

my interview today was also fine (second round coming up), but I don't like the job. The director said in order to fill this position successfully one has to become a chemist. And I don't want to do that :) And I dont like pharmaceutical companies that much anyway. (in fact I dislike them)
So, moved it back in the priority list.

On the other hand, my hand feels better (what a word joke :)))

not quite annoying, but worthwhile to mention:

now I have two job offers. One was made earlier, one will be made on monday. I have to decide soon and guess I'll take one of them and finish the search. None of them is related to China, so guess I'll head for different direction for a while.
It is a bit of a heart vs. rationality decision, but given that I have to support a family soon I guess I'll take the latter option.

There is one more possibility which sounds very promising and interesting (and a lot of money), but that is only in the first round and needs 3-4 more weeks to step forward. We'll see.

My experience, whether you have a familiy or not: If you want to be good and if you want to like what you're doing, take the "heart job"! Seriously, you'll quit the "mind job" as sonn as you find something else. In the "heart job" you might not become rich but maybe happy.
Anyway, whatever will be you decision - have luck with these offers and get at least one of them! :)

Looking for a flat to rent is a really annoying process! At the end of June I have to leave this hostel, although there's a possibility to move in another hostel of the university for July and August (then comes the end of my PhD contract) and from there to a sublet in September OR directly to a sublet at the end of June. First version is cheaper, providing almost unlimited internet access for free (100 GB/month, 100 Mbps) but I'm fed up with school hostels after 12 (!) years. On the other hand where to go? My girlfriend will work at the university in the next year too, while I would prefer a place close to my new workplace. Equal distance from the two places... well, it's the worst district of Budapest. :D And still not mentioning the time and energy to spend on checking different flats...

No chance for buying one at the moment, although that would be the best solution.
Title: Re: Annoying things
Post by: zaqrack on June 03, 2009, 03:19:15 PM
Don't be afraid, some parts of the 8th and 9th district are actually quite nice. I'm sure BonzaiJoe can provide you nice memories from Mester utca :)  On the other hand, Andi's brother lives near Rákóczi tér. Well, he was only robbed once in the past year. :)  Generally speaking the 8th district between Üll?i út and the Danuba is safe and sound. Above that not recommended. East from Orczy út you can also live safely.

I think central K?bánya would also be a rational and cheap choice, even if it means a bit more travel for your girl for a year. The Óhegy area of k?bánya has good traffic possibilities and is very clean and well-organized. My mother lived there for 5 years and liked it a lot.

In any case, living on the Pest side after Buda will be strange  for sure.
But better move now. End of august all the good&cheap rents will be filled by new students

Title: Re: Annoying things
Post by: Chulk on June 03, 2009, 04:24:26 PM
What exactly do you call 'a bit more travel'? How much distance? Because I don't think it should affect CTG's decision...
Title: Re: Annoying things
Post by: CTG on June 03, 2009, 04:36:58 PM
I prefer the current place (11th district) for sublets (safe, close for my girlfriend - I don't want her to walk on the dark streets of 8th/9th district after work) and Köbánya for a later own flat. But probably it will be an absolutely different choice: somewhere around Zugló railway station seems to be another good option (~20 mins from the university by bus 7E, ~20 mins from my future workplace by train + bus; both of us can travel home easily from there).

Chulk: the possibility Zak mentioned would mean about 50 mins. A good one anyway (later) if my girlfriend is going to work for one of the big pharmaceutical companies at Köbánya.

What about annoying songs? I switch off the radio when they play:

- dunno the title, but "Party and bullshit and party and bullshit and party and party...", skid off dirty Helen!
- "This is love, this is love, this is lo-o-ove..." (is it really that popular to play 10 times a day?)
- any songs with "feat. Pitbull"
- any songs from Ákos (not Poo, but an arrogant Fidesz fanatic asshole, 20 years ago he was the leader of the "Hungarian Depeche Mode" called Bonanza Banzai), especially the newest called "Sztereotipikus"

and some oldies:

- Don't worry, be happy
- Queen - Friends will be friends (even if I like Queen, this one sucks)
- everything from Eros Ramazotti
- the Slovakian anthem ;D

I don't like many anthems, either. An interesting observation - the melody of our anthem is from a traditional folk song which is sad. To the contrary, the anthem is motivating.

And to the topic:
I fing annoying using "Slovakian" instead of "Slovak". :)

My former boss is still annoying.

My current boss is even more annoying. 10 (work)days left in Egis...

I kind of like manual shifting -- run-of-the-mill cars with auto gears and power steering weird me out a bit, like I were driving a really big toy. Still, I guess I would be easily swayed to the opposite opinion if my daily commute involved slogging through lots of inner-city traffic!

I got my driving licence in 2016. Since that I had no opportunity (till 2020) / mood to use a car - simply because I hate driving (and I have no sense to do it). Now I HAVE TO drive: my old-new employer provided a company car (Toyota Auris) and since we live ~16-17 kms away from my workplace, it means a huge advantage in time to travel by car instead of public transport (bus X, train, tram Y, then bus Z OR bus A with dozens of useless stops, then bus Z... both are about an hour...).

I'm trying to warm up by taking driving lessons, however, I'm still fuckin' lame on the road.

Not sure if this is like this in all of Latin America, but at least in Argentina, virtually everybody uses manual transmission and there's a generalised feeling of something like what Duplode describes: that automatic cars are like big toys, ha, ha. It wouldn't be fair that I made the comparison, though, since I have never had a driving license in my life or any interest in driving. I do like the idea of racing, though, although I haven't done it in real life, but having to drive and interact with other drivers and pedestrians, experience problems such as something breaking and being left on foot and having to find a mechanic or getting yelled at because I didn't see a sign or having to yell at somebody because they didn't... those things really discourage me from driving.

All the buses at least in Buenos Aires have an automatic transmission (or semi-automatic, I don't know the difference). It's only in the urban public transport as far as I know.

Many Europeans feel the same, but as the technology of auto transmission advances, it gets more and more accepted even by car enthusiasts. Older automatic cars had poor acceleration, high fuel consumption and switched between gears with no apparent logic, giving a feeling that the driver is out of control. In modern cars it is not the case anymore - new automatic transmissions work much smoother, not to mention electric cars where gears are not needed at all. I was also very skeptical before I bought my current car (also a Toyota Auris, but with hybrid engine and auto transmission) in 2018. Now I don't miss gear shifting at all.

Car rental companies may also have some automatic vehicles for travelers from the US, as they really CANNOT drive a manual car.

Same here, but they are always more expensive to hire, so I've never tried one.

I think I enjoy shifting, and the change in acceleration that comes from being in a different gear. Learning left-hand shifting when I moved was not fun though.

I definitely prefer a manual transmission.  Although, one of my cars has a modified automatic transmission that is more like a clutch-less manual, which is also fun.

I can tell from Alan's comment that Buenos Aires also has been experiencing an infernal week, like we have!

Now I'm going to say.... Cell phones. When you want to have a conversation after lunch or dinner and everybody's looking at those damned screens.
