Title: Your first track
Post by: alanrotoi on February 23, 2013, 12:08:54 AM
I'll celebrate my 20th year playing stunts in October 2013! yay!

And here the first track I built, called "Alan" (how else? xD)

Kinda boring track xD.

I think I could reconstruct a big part of my first track which was created with my friend but definitely I do not have it. :)

I fortunately saved it on meganium's site copy.

The track was made for BB 1.0 version :)

I think most of us started with BB 1.0. :)

What a pitty you don't have it.

It is impossible to point out my first track. Below you can see the earliest surviving track according to hard evidence, which certainly wasn't the very first one. Although the file manager gives a 2003 modification date for the .TRK, old backups of my BB 1.0 folders contain a replay driven on it with a 1997-09-24 time stamp...

You'd be laughing even harder if you had seen the aforementioned replay from 1997  :D

If you insist...  :D This is a BB 1.0 replay; seemingly a test of both manual gears and the replay saving feature.

Technically, I didn't insist as it was a one-time request. Admit it, you wanted us to ask for it.

Fortunately I installed all the stunts versions since 4dsL was online. Let's take a look xD.

I don't have BB1.0, maybe Alan can send it to me...

You won against skid? at least :)

Now, watching my old replays I found one doing a magic carpet with p962 xD but I'll attach another funnier. One where curiosity kills xD.

For BB 1.0!

Another jewel!! First replay in a stunts competition from Gutix!
Track Scabb, from 1st 4dsL season! Not bad, 9th place, auto trans :D

For BB 1.1

PS: I have ALL the replays received from the 1st season of 4dsL.

News from 10/01/2003 about the last update for Scabb (google translation, sorry):

1/10
Winners are Tsino third consecutive, second and third Paul Atreides Mr. Duck got it God who had many problems with your computer but still earned a spot on the podium. Congratulations to all! Notably, the revelation of the month has a name and that's XSCrapy appeared from far below and gradually gained positions until the 7th, excellent. RESULTS Click here or on the map at the bottom derecha.En the last two days there were many comebacks furtive and several new runners. Among the first we have CM, Jezus, aragorn_sda, The Popis (that whatever they say noticeable improvements), and Gahel FarDX, and among the new we have Gutix (excellent performance, he won ninth place), DanielPKF, Le Peich , Otaku (which was in the chat yesterday but as I am always in the clouds do not get to say hello), M @ KaBro, Villalba's Racing Team and MDaniel (hopefully not forget any).

In the area of the rest of the world the first place went Akoss Poo followed by Krys TOFF and XDude_NL. Some beasts: D. At 50 runners thank you very much :)

That's just too good! I can picture an impressionable little animal instead of the car in that replay  :D

Two words: Competition Archive  :) For the 2011 edition I managed to recover some 4dsL winning replays through Wayback Machine; Dinky and Monkey are still missing, however (as are most of the second season ones, though I guess the hackers did away with those...).

I don't really remember my first track, but I have a nice collection of the legendary Looping tracks built between 1997 and 2001 (with HIG files, as a proof of bloody Poo-Usrin battles).

My "favorite" creature is lost: extremely long and evil track, called 'Borzalom' (could be translated as 'Horror' or 'Monstrosity', built in May 1998). Since we did not use RH, it was almost impossible to finish a lap. :D

I think everybody did that :) I also remember a track of mine where ALL tiles were used - mostly not for scenery :)

Oh, found it, it was Peter11:

Peter5 was also nice:

And to stay on topic, this is my first track, from 1994, later reborn as a competition track. Note how balanced the two ways are :)

You can find them in the track pack available on ZakStunts.

I wonder how long did it take you to finish Peter11 (both building it as a lap in it)

Not longer than a well-detailed 512x512 Open TTD track... ;D

I think it was more than 10 mins to drive, norh of course (never knew about it). How about I make the ZCT140 then you can try? :D

Yes, please! I always missed some extremely long tracks from the competitions. :D

Manowar did another annoying track too in those times, where most of the ways went nowhere :S It was completely annoying turn a corner and find the skidding wiring :(

I remember making a track called "VERY_BIG", which was justa whole map full of loops, and the necessary sharp corners. The idea was to make a track that it was not possible to finish within 25 minutes. Of course it would have been possible to finish it quite fast with power gear going beside the loops, but we didn't know about the loop-PG-effect back then, nor really about replay handling.
I remeber that if you skipped the whole track, the engine was not able to compute the penalty time, so it wrote some kind of nonsense with non-numeric characters.

I was thinking about some small event - 1 day track or 4 hours something. I'll probably do it with some long track within. :)

My tracks from the early days are rather tame next to these monsters. Below, for instance, is the eternal classic - according to the hilarity shared with my "team mate" when we were nine years old  :)

The only good example of a track designed for sheer insanity is the following design, done by six hands a few years later. It might well be possible to do it in less than 4 minutes without shortcuts...

Honourable mention to Nuova, which I designed just after getting the idea of the fake track gimmick from Luke's site.

The A-4 track in stuntschallenge.net is from the same era of the latter two; that is a reasonably sane design though.

(Tracks attached below, should they fit your fancy)
