Anyone interesting in bringing the Newbie Guide (http://zak.stunts.hu/index.php?page=newbie1&showguide=1) up to date? The whole text is on this pad (http://piratepad.net/ki7OGww618).

At 340 lines it might be... a bit long and scary for newbies :)

Tell us what you need. It can be solved in team work.

as you mentioned earlier, some videos would be cool

I only have vague ideas :P
I was starting to clean up the registration/login code (anyone wants a "remember me" option? ;) ) so I took another look at the guide and found it a bit long.

Then I got distracted by trying to put dosbox+conf+stunts+shortcut in a single directory... (spoiler: it works)

Basic stuff

It was very useful. :)

About the customized profile, where is shown then? I can't see others profile (not statistics but years expertice/height/problems/background/problems profile)

Sure! Would it be better to sort the table, or directly to have the graph in the results page sorted?

QuoteAbout the customized profile, where is shown then? I can't see others profile (not statistics but years expertice/height/problems/background/problems profile)
There only a "profiles" page (http://zak.stunts.hu/index.php?page=profiles) using that information, but it doesn't seem to work. I'll give it a look ;)

1) As you wish. The table was a bit "offside" from the track section but I always used it. :D Maybe if in the car bonuses section you add the sort option or if every month it sorts by % may be easy to code.

2) Great! Thank you!

Just as a temporary solution, I grafted those field at the bottom of the profile page (http://zak.stunts.hu/pipsqueaks/alan+rotoi#info) :)

Quote from: Zak, on the shoutboxBTW, you can download ZCT152 from the tracks page http://zak.stunts.hu/tracks but you will be only able to send replayes from the 4th of March.
That being the case, would you consider adding a third state to the current race header, in which it would point to the new track and state, instead of "Time is up", something like "Preview - Race starts in..."? It won't make that much of a difference, as the interval won't be more than three days long, but it would clearly tell casual visitors that there is activity going on during said interval.

The site looks good and behaves so by now. :) But the "Chat" link at the "Info" section gives me an error:

Everything else works, well done. 8)

How it works now:
  • "Time's up" appears on the 1st of the month, after a deadline, and the home page points to the results of the race just over
  • the new track appears on the home page when it's ready, but not earlier than the 2nd day of the month; once the track is visible, replays can be sent
  • leading time calculations start on the 4th of the month (cfr. rules (http://zak.stunts.hu/rules))
That is perfectly fine. Please ignore my suggestion - when I made it I had not realized that the temporary hiccup in the latest update was, well, temporary   :)

Now it's fine and goes to AJAX Chat. :) That's why someone is needed to test all the links on the site. 8) But I guess that further improvments will be far, far away...

EDITED: "Hide Guide Menu" does nothing (when you are not logged in). I think that this button is useless anyway, you can remove it if you wish.

Anyway the new design looks amazing compared to version 8.0.

After so many useless site 'developments', the most useful one should also be done. It would be good to see the times sent in the quiet days automatically appearing on the scoreboard after the deadline...

Dreadnaut could you please trigger this based on the timer? I think it should be simple. The only reason it was not yet implemented because I had nothing I could trigger it with :)

I won't complain if Zak and you all agree with this proposal. However, given that we will have to wait for Zak to confirm the scoreboard and publish the new track, the choice seems to be waiting while bored due to knowing the unconfirmed results and waiting while dying of curiosity about hidden times. I lean towards the second option  :)

So... I've fixed the newbie checks which failed with certain dates. This however has brought some changes to the scoreboards as, for example, I was apparently a newbie until last month!

From the code that was already there, and that now behaves as expected, newbies are pipsqueaks that have joined less than 18 months before.

Is this fine? Should we reduce the number of months? (scoreboards are changing anyway :|)  Should we add the option to un-newbie-fy oneself? Or change the rule to something like "a whole season"?
Title: Re: ZakStunts 9.0
Post by: CTG on April 07, 2014, 04:16:27 PM
As for me, newbie scoreboard is a bit useless with such a low number of new pipsqueaks (could have been great in the first 6-8 years of ZakStunts). But if I have to choose, I would say the "whole season" option.

Quote from: CTG on January 31, 2014, 10:10:24 AM
Although the newbie scoreboard did not work properly, here are the results of 2013:

12+12+12+11+12+12+11+12+12+12+12+12= 142 pts for dreadnaut
00+00+00+12+11+00+12+00+00+00+00+00= 35 pts for Miro
00+00+00+10+10+00+00+00+00+00+00+00= 20 pts for Mr. P.C.
11+00+00+00+00+00+00+00+00+00+00+00= 11 pts for Goyo
00+00+00+00+00+00+00+00+00+00+00+11= 11 pts for Kalifa

I guess from now dreadnaut shouldn't be considered as newbie. And a suggestion: newbie status should be based on the number of races ever completed - if somebody has less than 8/10/12 completed races at the beginning of the season, he should be included in the newbie scoreboard for the whole year.

While I try to make the newbie thingy properly, here's something for you to think about:

? if I were to reorder the side menu, and optionally move it, what structure would make sense?

What could be hidden in a sub-menu, what should be always visible? And what about this (http://zak.stunts.hu/menu-test.php)? :)
Title: Re: ZakStunts 9.0

I guess Forum should have a preference status in the menu after current/this year stats on zakstunts.

What do you think about this: Every replay submitted on zak's it will instantly posted on an official stunts or zakstunts twitter account.

I'm not a twitter-person, but if people are interested and Zak creates an account, automated tweets can probably be done (http://www.pontikis.net/blog/auto_post_on_twitter_with_php).

I mean, the most important we need in this community is advertising. If 4dsl had more than one hundred of pipsqueaks every season was because the big advertising.

If we advertise in the popular social networks like twitter, facebook, etc., we will reach more people.
I created last year Stunts Community group in facebook. I'll give it to you if you want to make these "autoposts" or use it a way to advertise our community.

Should we send our replays to Zak?

Should we send an email to all pipsqueaks to do so (for those who's not reading forum)?

Should we postpone deadline?

What to do with the leading time and the quiet days?
Title: Re: ZakStunts 9.0
Post by: Duplode on June 28, 2014, 04:55:14 AM
I was about to ask some of these questions. Regarding the deadline, one suggestion, in case the issue is solved within the next few days but not this Saturday, would be to declare quiet days on the first midnight after the site resumes working, so that the race can at least have a proper finish. In fact, I wouldn't mind an extra week either, as long as it does not affect the season calendar too much.
Title: Re: ZakStunts 9.0
Post by: dreadnaut on June 28, 2014, 11:07:28 AM
I 'backported' some of the code to php 5.3, enough to get pages rendering again and —I hope— replay submissions to work.

Don't trust any other page :P

Zak, if you want to move the deadline, just edit the track information —quiet days and all the rest should* follow.

* might or might not follow, screens might explode, diarreah and earthquakes are not likely but cannot be excluded.

Is it possible to give access to your own sent replays (or at least you last replay)? This is not the first time when I overwrote my best lap with a "just started" replay - on the very last day. It's damned annoying. (At least the section times were registered...)

I think it would be useful to put these links (what CTG wrote) as latest news to make it available for those who don't visit the forum. The latest news are still reachable on the site.

This is weird :o

I've been on boats and strange places for the last few days, and I haven't touched the website in weeks, but somehow three pieces of code reading "format" became "formay", suddenly —and of course stuff stopped working.

Fixed now!

What about 15 days tracks? There are thousands of tracks in the archives.

I wasn't around for the original discussion (http://forum.stunts.hu/index.php?topic=3026.msg62009#msg62009), so here are my 2¢: While two week gaps (http://zak.stunts.hu/index.php?page=statreplay&season=2014&track=C158&pipsqueak=&list=on) without replays are annoying, I am not confident that the shorter deadlines would meaningfully increase activity. My forecast is that some races would be great while others would be very poor, with the number of pipsqueaks in the single digits. Then again, I have no crystal ball, and the only way of finding out what would happen is trying it.

(A weird idea, maybe too complicated to work well: what about having both long and short races - say, eight month-long races and eight 14-day races? Points could be weighed with a bit of coding, and the calendar could be adjusted to fit the seasonal activity patterns.)

Why not? Both tracks should be in the same zip, if not nobody will download/race one of them :D

Sounds weird, but I don't really care.

With the races being simultaneous it does sound weird  :) I had rather thought about short races from May to August (or during any other set of four months) and regular races through the rest of the year.

We have some cool stock cars: Toyota Corolla, Toyota Sprinter Trueno, Porsche 911 Turbo, Xylocaine XF...

LTB suggestion: Akoss Poo mentioned a few months ago that rolling leading time bonus could help a bit against addicts. If you don't have enough hours in the pocket to earn an LTB point (less than 48 hours), you should carry it to the next month.

Something is wrong with the 2014 seasonal scoring, I have 8 pts less for both the sum and real scores (123, 97) than the originally collected values (131, 105).

CTG says that his score is wrong, too.

No answer or action found on the board (it was my post earlier there), so I'm now trying to post here in the forum.

An "after race" interview page would be nice, where participants could comment about the results and impressions. ::)

E.g.: http://www.stunts.hu/irc/news03.htm

Good idea. I guess it would not be hard to modify the admin news interface to let others submit comments.

Funny error in bonus calculation - see 'Latest results'. ;D

It reminds me on a very-very stupid schoolmate chick in the early 90s. Somebody asked her "what's the time?" and she said it's 10:60. :D

Yes I mean every day nave not exactly exactly the same duration if you use a more precise system than the calendar or a watch.

It is there (the >> pattern in the background of the bar indicates the length of public days), though it is easy to miss (it took me several days during the second half of Z162 to notice the >> didn't move with the purple bar  :)).
