11 Jan: hiking trip in Ablakos-kö-völgy, a strictly protected valley in the Bükk.
18 Jan: nameday of my would-be-mother-in-law, big party
Later:
April 3-6: scientific conference in Transylvania (Székelyudvarhely, the gypsies call it Odorheiu Secuiesc), and since it is a very cheap one and Ildi has a free seat in the car and we can use the same room, she can (afford to) come, too. :-)
Summer holiday:
We plan to go to Nesebar, Bulgaria.
I still don't know much about this year, my highlights are usually planned a few months in advance.
What is sure so far:
April 15-26: Easter holiday in Hungary.
Further plans:
- we have several ideas about the summer holidays; it will be decided later
- we postponed buying a car from last year to summer 2014 (we didn't want to take a large loan, rather continued sparing)
- one scientific conference; most probably in Geneva (18-22 August)

LOL! All the of them are in my TOP5 "affordable and still fine" brands (1 Ford, 2 Toyota, 3 VW, 4 Skoda, 5 Opel).

Yes, back to Budapest for multiple reasons:
- Now I still have a possibility to return while keeping my current job and salary. As the outlook of our company in the mid-term is not that great, I don't want to miss this opportunity and get stuck in China. If I need to shift later, I better shift from Hungary.
- I prefer my sons (and myself) to spend more time with the extended family.
- I have to regularly work late night shifts in China due to time zone differences. Had enough.
- Pollution is getting a serious concern is Shanghai too
- I Miss the mountains and my bikes
Sounds like a lot of good reasons! And I guess the Hungarian regime is still a bit less repressive than the Chinese one...
I also miss the Hungarian mountains and biking with you...

well we will be much closer so time to meet again :)
I really intend to settle down for a while in Hungary, but if things don't work out as expected we will most likely follow Usrin's steps and head north... plenty of good job opportunities in my field in Sweden and Finland.

Finally we've chosen a Ford. After comparing a lot of second-hand car ads, that seemed to have the best price/value ratio and became my first real car today: http://www.finn.no/finn/car/used/object?finnkode=47945288
Not the nicest design, it has almost nothing to do with the usual Ford Focus (which I like very much)... but the large luggage space will be sometimes necessary.
Congrats, a reasonable choice! Same age and character as our car :) Even the engine displacement is identical :)
Regarding summer highlights, we were able to have all planned excursions so far this year. The weekend in Nanjing was delayed by a week and will take place this weekend.
We have also added a few additional destinations:
June 13-15: Zhoushan islands - 75% probability, not decided yet. Long weekend to play in the sand with the kids.
1st week of July: Business trip to Grenoble, France. Hope I can add one day to do some hiking
August 16-24: return to Transsylvania, the same place we have been last year. Can't wait!
and lots of biking/hiking in Hungarian mountains on weekends July to September!
