Title: Race for Kicks
Post by: Duplode on December 09, 2016, 06:18:08 AM
Every competition should have a place in the forum, so here is a thread for Cas' holiday OWOOT competition.

Competition site: http://dimioca.com/r4k http://www.raceforkicks.com
Driving rules: Strict OWOOT (IRC-like, speed-gathering bumps allowed, tunnel roof driving forbidden.)
Replay handling: RH is allowed; if you feel like driving NoRH you can mark your replays as such.

Do check it out -- a neat first track for Melange awaits you.

EDIT BY CAS: Website address updated!

Next chapter: race for punches

And then: Street Fighter Racing

Another possibility is Road Rash, though we would need to make a few motorcycles for Stunts  :D

Thanks, Duplode, for creating this topic and thank you guys for joining again. I haven't been checking the replays or writing here or racing in ZakStunts these last days because I'm on a trip. I'm currently in Puerto Madryn, in the Patagonia, South of Argentina. I will be returning home this Sunday and I'll be active again. I tried to post a message in R4K and discovered a bug. It looks like the session system conflicts with NoScript (a Firefox plugin that I use) and even when I enable the site IP, I still can't remain logged in (which did work from my home computer). When I tried to write a message, it not only logged off, but also deleted another message Leo had sent, so I have to make my code blocker-proof. Another thing I want to do is develop a NoRH verification system so that a handicap can be given to benefit NoRH replays.

This track, Dubai, I made very quickly, so any comments on it are welcome :)

The domain is down and I really don't understand well why. I'm trying to solve it. The server is working fine. So you can use this link:

Cas, please also submit data for the stunts portal at www.stunts.hu!

check the ZakStunts entry and pls provide the same data, I'd be glad to have one more competition listed on the site!

Thanks, Zak. Here I'm posting the banner, same size as the others, also GIF. The data could be:
Name: Race for Kicks
Status: Active
Manager: Cas
Length: Individual races
Replay Handling: Optional
Cars used: Assigned per track
Track interval: Varies
Link to: http://dimioca.com/r4k (http://dimioca.com/r4k)

More specific and variable information can be gathered from http://dimioca.com/r4k/tour.cfg (http://dimioca.com/r4k/tour.cfg), which is a text file. Each line contains a variable name, equals sign and a value and this is updated for every race. Relevant variables:

tour: Gives the tournament name, currently "Race for Kicks". Likely to stay the same
cttitle: Name of current track
ctauthor: Author of current track
ctdeadline: Deadline string
ctcurcar: Car for current track
startdate: Date the race started

There's no need for you to read these, but there they are, available.

Could you also make a json file like the one for ZakStunts (http://zak.stunts.hu/track.json)? It would plug right in and appear as a new race at the top of the portal.

Thank you, guys!  I had forgotten to give a description. Thanks for adding it as well!

I'll take a look again at the json file to understand the format. Right now, my site does not automatically build the cfg file anyway, so the json would be written by me manually just like the cfg, but my intention is that I can later update that from the administration panel, like I do with the handling of replay files and the highscore table. I'll let you know when I have that working :)

What has a monocle but no speed limit?

Die Ottobahn! (http://dimioca.com/r4k/index.php?o=race)

It suddenly struck me: did Otto race DTM, either before or after his Formula One career? 28 years seems quite a long while to stay only in F1  :D

(By the way, a reminder that the deadline for the current race is Sunday 25th, 23:59:59 UTC -- only four days left!)

Yep... it's almost finished. I'm glad that the system has been doing pretty well. No major bugs. The issue with Leo's replays had to do with the fact that it had been designed for one car per race and had to retouch it, but other than that, I'm happy that it works well. I'll have to start thinking what we'll do for the last race of the year :)

I have a rules question/thing I'd like to brag about. I also posted it on the scoreboard, but I don't think other drivers can download it from there, so it's not as effective a brag. The thing that happens here at the first loop, is that legal in R4K?  ;D

That's some impressive magic carpet there! I don't think I've ever seen a car gain such altitude without also spinning out of control. The brag is valid, but I think the replay is not, since you are not "executing" the loop :D

It's going to be my new signature move, the upside loopcut. I'm going to redo every single loop in Zakstunts until I get this replicated.

(No, not really.)

Hey, you should have been able to make the replay public in the scoreboard, unless there's a bug. Anyway, as expected, and sadly, I can't approve it for OWOOT :(  because it doesn't execute all stunts, but it really is an impressive one, so I've opened the track in the permanent competition, where you can re-post the replay as Free OWOOT. That would make it valid.

As I mentioned in the chat room, this kind of happenings make me consider turning R4K into a primarily Free-OWOOT (as opposed to strict-OWOOT) tournament with occasional strict OWOOT tracks (opposite to what it is like now). Another such event was when somebody (not sure, but maybe Alan Rotoi) posted a replay that I couldn't approve because he drove on the roof of the tunnel. Also, strict-OWOOT makes me feel compelled to avoid using u/d corks in tracks. What do you guys think?

On the other hand, R4K is like it is because it's inspired in the rules of Paleke's WSC.

I'm happy to race strict-OWOOT: I like the format, but GAR is too painful for me :P
