Competition 2024 / Re: Cars and rules for 2024

I like the idea of limiting the LTB system to the amateur league for the reasons that @Argammon mentioned.  My understanding is that leading time would be awarded for first place on the amateur league scoreboard, otherwise it's not likely that anyone would accrue many leading hours.  @dreadnaut's scoring system sounds good, but I think it may be a little too generous.

Nice work!  Another amazing car makes its way into the Stunts world.  Thank you! :)

@Duplode, thank you for the detailed analysis!  It's very interesting indeed! :)

Quote from: Cas on December 18, 2023, 10:15:46 PMIf this is it, then all we have to do is give our cars a low-poly car2 model

The De Tomaso Pantera GTS already has this, and as @Duplode mentioned, nothing is usually rendered anyway, so I doubt this is the cause.

The "laser" appears to cycle between the same colours as the menu selection border.

Welcome @desktopsimmer! :)

Quote from: desktopsimmer on November 26, 2023, 07:53:20 PMthe coordinates of the same wheel differ between the car models

That's because the different car models serve different purposes, and therefore the coordinates are stored differently:

  • car0 is used for the showroom.  It has the highest detail and is a different scale to the other models.
  • car1 is used in-game for the high detail graphics mode.
  • car2 is used in-game for long draw distances and the low detail graphics mode.

If you have a look at one of the original cars in stressed, you'll see what I mean.  CarWorks copies the same model to all three resources for simplicity.  Since most people aren't running Stunts on a 286, using lower detail models for car1 and car2 isn't really necessary.

As far as I know, they only appear in the News Archive.

Quote from: Niels007007 on November 18, 2023, 03:51:45 PMDo the fast drivers 'feel' the limit?

The limit is usually gauged by the skidding sound.  However, when using Ad Lib or Sound Blaster as the sound device, this is non-existent on dirt, ice and grass.  For this reason, if I'm racing on a track with a lot of dirt or ice, I'll use the Roland MT-32 for sound.

It is possible to correct a slide, but it's quite difficult without replay handling.  I wouldn't consider it realistic either.

Welcome @Niels007007!  The physics parameters for the individual cars have been well documented.  Unfortunately though, information on how the physics engine works is rather thin on the ground.  It's mainly limited to identifying behaviour rather than explaining how it actually works.  Your idea of identifying the grip value for spinning out is interesting and may well be entirely possible for someone with the right skills and enough time on their hands. :)
