I'll take the orange and white INDY on the Dutch map (although I'm open to switching to red white and blue ;)), and I think I'll go for the Zakspeed colors BMW, the dark green one. (I think it's paint job 2, or maybe 3.) Edit: don't request non-existent paint jobs Overdrijf, Zakspeed was a Mercedes team.

I forgot to actually attach the tracks. ;D Added them now!

You can use this element. It won't be connected to the real track and you have a paved road from the middle of the square.

I well you what: you can make the last minute modification if you don't tell people exactly what it's going to be.

Let me add something. I would not use the initial banked road because that jump could make a difference between automatic and manual transmission. Also if somebody has a better shifting will also have an advantage. Just something non-jumping thing would be more fair.

Sounds like a good choice for the last minute change. A regular straight piece does not work with the trick unfortunately, but there are several other options.

On behalf of Cas and myself I have the honor of inviting you to the Flaming Exhaust event, a double live race, taking place on Sunday the 3rd of July, at 13:00 UTC, which corresponds to:
Sunday 10:00 Buenos Aires
Sunday 15:00 Budapest
Sunday 23:00 Brisbane

The races will be run using the "Le Stunts" format, where you have 12 minutes of realtime to produce a replay of 8 minutes in length. Replay handling is allowed, but every time you rewind eats into that clock!

As the last race did, we included an element to honor the last live race winner: alanrotoi. This is why the first race I present today will be run with his Lola Cosworth INDY, a fabulous fast car with slightly tricky steering, a wonderful balance between realism and gameplay. Everyone drives a different paintjob, so reserve yours fast! ;D

The track for this race will be The Journey. As I prepare for the 7th move in my adult life, I made a track that passes by the 5 towns and cities I lived in (plus 5 more I only worked in.) Fun fact about this track: counting 5 people per boat, barn or mill, 10 per bar and gas station and 50 per apartment block, this real world inspired map can handle the population density of the real area.

The route for this track is: at every split, go straight. Shortcuts are allowed as long as you don't pass any scenery elements (buildings, trees) on the wrong side.

Layout inspired by a trick ZdnBurns posted in the thread of the last live trace.

The other track for this event is a musically inspired masterpiece: The Alan Parsons Project. A challenging track that will test the drivers to their limits as they try to keep their finishing time within 12 minutes.

Are you confused yet, at how to handle a live race on all that? I know I am! Hills, slaloms, elevated corners, a loop over the water, what madness!

We're also keeping a little bit of hype up our sleeves for this one. We will unveil our car pick and maybe one or two additional rules later. ;) Okay, one car-hint: we will be going fast.

As always we will be looking for volunteers to make a single last minute change to the tracks (a track element or nearby scenery) as an anti-cheat measure. I personally would prefer volunteers who don't like placing slaloms. 8)

So, are you hyped, pipsqueaks? Are you ready for a double dose of live racing action? Will you be there? We will. See you on the tracks.

Speedy greetings,

Cas and Overdrijf

A first approach to Rambler Ambassador, Diplomatic Vehicle from 1965.

I love that use of paint jobs. It's perfect for the car. It's almost a shame that I'm pretty sure you can't have like several dozen color schemes on one car, or you could do a proper flag collection. ;)

We've already got a track, plans for a second one, and are looking for the timeslot now. Official announcement coming soon.

Thanks, I was going to post that as well. :D

Looks like that thread doesn't have the final video linked for easy viewing. So I'll link it here.

I think I maybe did some short experiments afterwards with making the first four vertices like the rudders on an airboat or something, but if I did it was unsuccesfull enough to put the idea back in the box. I do agree though, with proper experimentation we should be able to do something cool with this concept.

(The other main trick in that video is replacing the visual object of ice roads with the grass model, in case you're wondering after seeing it.)

Quote from: Daniel3D on May 22, 2022, 03:31:34 PMBut for my personal info, I'm not worried. The Dutch systems are relatively well protected.
Aren't our systems usually just outsourced to whatever French company or something will store that data for us?

A number about me:

1

The number of CV's I had to send to find a new job this time around.

It's a refreshing change from most other times I looked for a job, let me leave it at that.

I mostly can't imagine making that one up. That's too silly. What would have happened there, accelerator stuck or something?
#387
I'm impressed by the dashboard. I would never have thought of that, set the dash, the top of the dash and the sun visor strip thingy to the maximum known size and give them all a mask to have the window cracks on screen.

Custom Cars with Stressed / Re: Grip modifiers.

I don't know about better, more "closer to".

I'm going to assume the dirt in Stunts is meant to model the kind of gravel or compacted earth roads that rallies often use. It's not thick mud, or it would have an effect on acceleration and top speed as well as on grip. A rally car would still corner faster on asphalt than on a gravel road, because the car is still going to be slipping about on the loose gravel, with sand and clumps of dirt flying through the air around it. But the tires and suspension have been optimized that the difference is as small as possible. That's what the modifiers do, if the difference between dirt and asphalt is smaller, the difference in performance is smaller (but you know that). The wiki only mentions the LM002 as having its own set of modifiers, I could have sworn the Lancia and Audi had those as well, and from the custom cars there's the Lotus Esprit. The modifiers are actually used sometimes.

Me personally, as a builder, I tend not to touch them mostly because dirt and ice are not that common on tracks, and people have certain learned expectations about the difference in grip they're going to experience when hitting it. If I keep those modifiers the same those instincts will still work. So unless I was making a terrain car I tend to just leave them as they are. (I might have to make an exception if I ever finish the DAF Siluro, which has some rally pedigree.)

Grass is a bit of a special case, because grass is off the track, you're not supposed to be able to drive there. Grass actually does work closer to thick mud, taking the speed out of the car. So changing the parameters for grass is a bit of a question about how good you want the car to be at shortcuts I guess, particularly relevant in powergear cars.

More on topic: it is a pretty cool idea. Maybe try the format out as sort of a one shot hosted on the forum and go from there?

For me, no... because the difference between pro and amateur will stay the same. By adding a lot of car, it will be difficult to make a BOP (Balance Of Performance). Zakstunts can be a better place, if they made many cars can win and not the car of the month.

Zakstunts actually is a lot more equal now than it used to be. Now every car goes up 1% in coefficient if it wasn't in the top 3 on the last track, that used to be 3%. Still the xompetitiveness of the times and the demands of the tracks usually yield only a few contenders.

But if you have suggestions on how to make it better they're certainly welcome!
