Stunts Forum & Portal / THE COMMUNITY 2004
November 23, 2003, 01:00:59 AM
Welcome.

I'd like everyone to read this, especially those who run/plan to run a competiition.

ZakStunts rules will change a lot in 2004. There'll be no dual league, no amateur/average rankings, fading scores. Surprised? I'll explain.

In 3 years ZakStunts became quite popular on the net. First with extreme advertising, then without advertising newbies gathered, and either they stayed or left us.
The point system every year was a bigger problem than last year. How to make it fair for the best, and still intresting for the newbies.
And as in 2003 pipsqueak number was constatnly high, the smaller competitions starved, there weren't enough pipsqueaks.
Also I'm a bit tired to manage all the replays and stuff.
I don't want to dominate the stunts community, I'd like to see all the smaller competitions to live.
If you were clever enough you have seen the first signs of this in 2003 too.
So here are the changes:

1. ZakStunts
Of course everyone can join the competition, but the main aim will be to provide the most correct and proper rankings for the best 10-12 stunts pipsqueaks known. Main rules (all cars, shortcuts) wont change, there wont be a secondary competition, there wont be retro tracks.
Any new pipsqueak who wants to join ZakStunts will be told to join some other competition too, and train there to rise the skills, because here he maybe won't find too much success in the beginning.

2. http://stunts.mine.nu
When you'll type this address into your browser, not ZakStunts will appear, but a portal-like thing, where stunts competition managers can sign up their own competition, publish the short rules, the difficulty level some fresh news always, and of course a link. The name will also change, I don't know what it'll be, but we'll find out. I'll re-register this page at every abandonware ring I know, and I'll try to advertise it much.
ZakStunts will be only a competition listed between the others.

3. My home server
A new HDD will be installed soon, the site will be down for 1-3 days until the system is reinstalled and configured. Then it'll be possible to hand out accound with php+sql support+50meg+email space for anyone who requests it. It'll be a web-hosting service with some restrictions:
a. the site must run a stunts competition/info about stunts/a racing team
b. the site must sign up for the portal site
I'll provide of course the forum and the chatroom + bots for everyone at request.
Of course its not needed to be hosted by my server to be on the portal site.

4. Help
If you have any good idea to run a competition, then I'll help as much I can to set it up. It might be a continous one, or a 1-3 month occasional type, I don't care. I'd like to see as many competitions as possible, with the most unique rules you can ever imagine.
And it's of course possible, that for example in ZakStunts you get additional bonus points for a win in a smaller competition (of course only if you are a so called "newbie")

That's all.
I'm not sure if I can finish all these things in 2003 but I'll try.

General Chat - ZSC / ZakStunts 2004
October 27, 2003, 07:43:54 PM
Well altough 2003 season hasnt finished yet and there were some quiet months, I consider it very succesful. I enjoyed it much more than the 2002 season as a pipsqueak and a manager too.
I want to ask your opinion how should we continue.

1. Assistant Operator
I'd like to have an assistant who can help me maintaingin the site. This year the 2002 TDC winner Akoss Poo helped organizing the secondary competition, but only with designing tracks, nothing else. I'm not sure about having a secondary competition in 2004 (described later), but I'd like to have an assistant (mabye winner of TDC2003?) who can do the following things:

a. managing the secondary competition (if there's any)
b. write analysis, stats, reviews, news, etc.
c. update through phpmyadmin (easy job :)
d. if he knows php he can also write additional stats and tools for the site.

so this is based on further negotioations, if he doesnt want to see the replays, then he wont, only helps in other things.

2. Dual League
I think Dual League was a positive change. It'll stay unless you hate it so much you votre against it. However possibly the relegation/promotion system will change:

a. no separate pro league but a combined and an amateur (newbie). In this case we need a good system to decide who is already a pro. But this way newbies have their own goal.
b. separate leagues like this year but no relegation but only promotion according to strict rules.
c. same system as this year maybe with modified point system of course.

3. Secondary Competition
well this is an intresting topic. The secondary competition was meant to be providing more training for the newbies, but it didnt really turned out this way. Maybe it wasnt a good idea. Lets see some ideas:

a. no secondary competition/track at all
b. separate track for amateur/pro (only if leagues are separated) - sound like a bad idea anyway, maybe you like it.
c. one competition track for everyone, and one secondary for the amateur league only for extra points. Pros can join the track too but they dont earn points, only for fun. Works only if theres a separate league for amateurs.
d. same as above but the separate track is for the pros only.
e. secondary track for points for everyone. Of course only 10-20% wight compared to the main competition.

So this is a big question. Do we need a secondary competition, if we need for who, which rules, which cars, etc.

I'm open for any ideas...

Chat - Misc / IQ
October 26, 2003, 11:25:21 AM
this was topic for many occasions on the chatroom.
I've finally found a correct IQ test on the web.

http://www.iqtest.dk

sit down, relax and solve it if you want.
Mine is 133 on this scale, just measured. It's almost the same result like I did on the test IRL last year. That was a different scale, but I had the same result in percentage.

from this day only the bots have operator status on the channel, and noone else, including me. User level for the bots will be reduced from 50 to 20 so no kicking possible through the bots too.

Sorry for the track design, it wasnt meant to look like this. The look immediately suggested athe community a name change for the track.
I hope activity will be higher than on Z30, it must be because end of season is near...

Damn!
and damn and damn and damn

my smaller HDD had some error, it works, but I lost all content of it. This was my personal stuff drive :(
of course site is functional because its located on the server, and there was only a backup, but

1. My Stunts Directory (created in 2001!) is lost.  More than 30mb, all the replays sent to zakstunts + my replays, lots of tracks and addons
2. Stunts Projects folder was lost. This included the 60% done big car comparison chart + lots of graphical projects, plans for the future
3. Analysis template files lost. This only takes some hours to redo, but still...
4. Lots of not stunts related stuff are lost too

Stunts Chat / Live Racing Howto
September 10, 2003, 01:43:21 AM
Well after a long time I decided to make it finally, and I did a much bigger work than I wanted to do first.
This means site version is v 5.1 now. Why?
passwords.

Yep, you can now set up a password, and live racing + send replay scripts are only accessible with a password.
How can you get a password?
tell me you need a password.
I create you a password, which you can change anytime on the site.
After you changed the password it'll be stores in the database as a MD5 crypted hash, so I won't know your password (but can still use your accound by using the hash as a password)

Now about the live racing section. It's accessible from the community menu.
Lets imagine I'm not there if some people want to have a nice live event.
One pipsqueak decides which track to use, and which car. He opens "start anew race" page, and writes all the information he wans to share. Important thing is the track ID. Please try to folow a sequence, it should look like liveXXX where XXX is of course not a sex site but a number.
After you entered the data, the ID will be available at the "send replay" section. Now we wont send a replay, but a track. If it"s a well-known track, please send it too, because it'"s better if all tracks are available on which we had a live race. Aftr you uploaded the track the system will automatically rename it.
Lets wait until the starting time, and lets race!
When pipsqueaks finish their best lap and dont want to race more, they also open the "send replay" page, and send their replay through the net. You only need the ID number, the rpl file, and your username+password.
After you sent it, a confirmation screen should appear, where you can see the exact time when you sent the replay (in seconds too), and the time you achieved.
WARNING!
the system cant count penalty time! Please avoid penalty in live races, we should consider this having as a new rule.
Ok, race finished, and no need for anything, you can see all the results on the "former results" page, of course they are sorted by finishing time.
And also you can download all the replays either here by clicking on the pipsqueaks name, or from the combined archive, from the "replays sent" page.

So this is all. Sure there'll be some bugs, and it's easy to cheat with the times, but since we suppose we are honest when we say noRH,  then I think noone will cheat.

And later we can use the password system for many intresting things
enjoy the liverace system, but be careful! You have direct access to the database! Don't ruin it please :)

Competition and Website / Retro Tracks
September 04, 2003, 05:56:15 PM
well tell me your opinion.
either they'll be available as permanent tracks (not all of them at the first second, possibly every month 2 or 3 more),
or we'll have 3 retro tracks in the main competition, like: spring, autumn, winter, and in the summer the 2 special rule tracks.

World Stunts Meeting 2004 / World Stunts Meeting 2004
August 30, 2003, 11:05:39 PM
The 1st offical World Stunts Meeting will be held in Budapest,

either 2004 August 13-14-15 (fri-sun) or
        2004 August 20-21-22 (fri-sun)

20. of aug is national holiday, so I dunno its better to have the meeting then or not (roads closed and stuff, but there are more things to see probably) Of course those who want to stay longer, can stay, I can provide the food+shelter for a longer time.

Chat - Misc / ZakStunts sucks
August 30, 2003, 09:43:36 PM
why?

because it shows its back to the world. I love browsing it, and using it, and when I update it I always feel I made it better, BUT

I always think with a head of a pipsqueak, a maniac, an addicted fan.
If someone comes here to DL some games, then he'll find some (ok now only a very small number, but when I have motivation I'll write some reviews),

but what happens if someone who liked Stunts and says: "wow, a page about Stunts", and visits the site?

nothing at all. He comes here, he can see lots of maniacs who race hours/week, and achieve incredible stunts, but all we can offer to him is a short FAQ, and a very small number of downloads.
Ok, ok the driving schools too, but its mainly for new pipsqueaks.
He looks around, thinks "I'm not addicted to this game this much" and leaves. And never comes back possibly.

I plan improving the site to attract people who are searching information about the game itself, because they are the best possible pipsqueaks.
this means:

-we need a very detailed description about the game
-collect all the utilities and addon progs available for stunts
-write longer information about these things
-proper introduction to the pipsqueaks world
-and competitions available to anyone (like TDC or an extended permanent competition, where not only top5 is showed, but top 100

there are lots of intresting information/stuff on the site (like the Pickell interview), but all at different places.
Not as much as on the Kalpen's page (stunts/competition) but there's an urgent need for reorganization and expansion.

If you can help in ANYTHING what possibly could be intresting to someone who likes stunts (faqs, reviews of cars, track design manual, tips, utils, etc...)
then please write it here or contact me.
help me improving the site.

Zak
