Special rules
« on: January 10, 2007, 08:53:06 PM »
I'm collecting and inventing special rules myself of course, but if you have an idea which you always wanted to try or share, tell it here and it may be a featured one :)

anything is welcome, but we have to miss one thing - racing against opponents - the current replay system on the website cant handle it.

Anyway, it would not be something new : I did it with IMSA Cup. :P ;D

I have some ideas, but I already plan to use them for Stunts Career special events, sorry. ;)

A cool special rule may be: One is allowed to race with the Indy anytime. ;D

Somehow I wonder where this feeling comes from, that Zak doesn't like this rule? ???

Some special rules for tracks, not to be used together at once:

1.  Stay on the road
2.  Stay on the road with at least one wheel
3.  You may not jump
4.  You have to race the Stunts parts proberly (like corkscrew) and not shortcut them.
5.  No power gear allowed
6.  Only manual gear allowed
7.  Extra points for each part of the track you drive not on the road.
8.  Start the race in third gear
9.  Cheat car race
10. Stop at the filling station
11. Stop at Joe's
12. Race through each of the filling stations
13. Race through one of the filling stations
14. Perform a Lise's trick
15. Replay only valid, when getting into power gear at least once
16. Race the longer track (building an impossible track, but the real track for the game to accept it is just a small circle), penalty will be the same for all pipsqueaks.
17. Replay only valid when you get penalty time (that would be cool, because everyone has to find out, how to get least of all penalty times)
18. No howling tires allowed in sharp corners
19. Race with joystick instead of keyboard
20. No breaking allowed

Maybe there's something for you? I really like the idea of extra rules for each track. Good contest variation. 8)

good ones, thank you!

You'll see many of these selected :)
(i like the Lise's trick rule ;))

I have also found out a special rule which trains your brain:

The road splits into 5 ways after the startline, next to each way there is a different building. (block house, joe's, station,  barn, windmill) Of course the setup can also be 3 times joes and 2 different next to eachother, not always 5 different ones.

Then the roads rejoin. And then split up again, each marked with a building.  All this five times repeated.
You can chose your own way, but when finished you have to drive on each building's road once. And only once.

This ends up in quite a couple of possibilities. :)

General comment : if we want special rules, we need funny and as new as possible ones in my opinion.
Some comments about JTK's ideas :

1, 2 and 4 : not new, and still used in active competition (WSC). So I would prefer not to see them here too. And current track is a variation of this so we already have this kind of rule for 2007.

3 : that's a good one. I would add that you'll get penalty for each jump made anyway (penalty value to be defined).

5 : well, applicable only for some cars, but why not. Problem will be to decide at which speed powergear start. For example with indy, if you reach 230mph and not 245, you used the "beginning" of powergear, but not real powergear (at 230 mph, you are slowed by the grass). So, is it powergear or not ?

6 : manual gears could be a real handicap for some pipsqueaks, only auto gears would be better I think, with a track like ZTC+3.

7 : will require numerous time for replay validation by Zak at the end of the month, but why not.

8 : funny one. I would add : and stay in 3rd gear all the race.
That would be quite a challenge is the track and car are well chosen. This rule means the use of manual gears but as long as you have to just increase gears and then don't change anything I think it's ok. But if you allow gear changes after the start, I don't aggree with this rule for the same reason as point 6.

9 : ok if the cheated car chosen is not Melange. For information, cheated cars will be used more than once for Stunts Career project.

10, 12 and 13 : these are interesting. The 12th one was used for the very 1st track raced with Melange at ZakStunts : ZCT28.

11 : nice one. Maybe we should decide to add this rule to another one.
An example : start in 1st gear with manual gears (as some pipsqueaks have problems with manual gears, the beginning of the track should be short and must not need gear decrease), then stop at Joe's for 3 full seconds (enough, even for not manual gears familiar pipsqueaks, to decrease gear from last one to 3rd one) and then race only outside the road and only in 3rd gear as you are drunk after staying at Joe's.
I also think that the end of the track need to be a bugged one like USC's Tata track I designed, in order to make you feel even more drunk after stayiong at Joe's. If this rule is approved, I'd like to design the track.

14 : mmmm, remind me what Lise's trick is. ::)

15 : another possible problem for autogears pipsqueaks... I don't think it's a good idea.

16 : a Kalpen classic, isn't it ? ;D Already used in FSC some years ago. This will be done in Stunts Career too. I like the idea because it allows to create crazy tracks (you'll see it in Stunts Career :D)

17 : it's not so difficult to get the minimum of penalty time... I'm not sure this would be interesting. Getting a certain value of cumulative penalty would be harder and more interesting in my opinion.

18 : impossible to verify as howling noise is not always heard the same while racing and when watching replays. I noticed it more than once. And also there are slight differences if you race in pure DOS mode or if you use DOSBox. Could be good, but sadly not applicable. Using a speed limit in corners would be better (this would require a car with speed display of course).

19 : impossible to verify too. And how to make the difference between pipsqueaks with a joystick and those with a pad ? And I'm sure some of us don't have a joystick nor a pad anyway (personnally I have both ;D)

20 : again an interesting rule, but manual gears pipsqueaks will have a huge advantage... ::)

Some additionnal proposals :
 - the "break all the signs" rule (as ZCT 27), I liked it.
 - multiple laps track (well, not a new one, but not enough used in competition I think).

For noRH contest: race in F2/F3 or F4 view, proving it with video as in SDR. ;D

a, Speed limit (for digital speedometer cars)
b, Completing more laps on a single track, like ZCT Plus 3
c, British IRL rules race (driving in the left lane, you must change the lane immediately after the start)
d, Off-road racing (like Goiania) with touching certain elements
e, Jumping contest: every jump means -1 seconds
f, Completing the whole lap in a certain gear level

The strange thing is that I race in F3 view in every racing game (NFS, F1 games, Network Q Rally, etc.). Except Stunts.

The "penalty for jumps" thing was done in Akoss' 2003 secondary competition (ACT07).
Other special rules:
Speed limit doesn't require a digital speedmeter, just look at "top speed" in the replay evaluation.

1. Choose any car you want for the track, you get penalty seconds for choosing good cars (will be hard to balance, but could be fun)

2. You only have a certain number of shifts for the whole track (would require manual transmission, but hey, auto-drivers need to grow up anyway  :P)

3. You have to touch all the ghost cars placed on the track

4. You may not LEAVE power gear (track starts with three jumps)

5. Penalty time of 0:18 or less doesn't count

I really like the "no breaking allowed" and "same gear level" ideas. What is Lise's trick?
But we can't be quite sure.

I use external view only for games of Burnout or Need for speed series.
