Today I received an e-mail by Luke, who wrote:

Hi Oliver,
first of all, I am honored that people in the Stunts community still seem to know me.
My Stunts page at: http://n.ethz.ch/student/loehrerl/4dsports.html will soon disappear, because I am losing the hosting at my former University. If you or someone in the Stunts community you know is interested in keeping some of my stuff available, you are invited to grab what you want and add it to your own site.
Thanks and best regards, Lukas

So of course - because I couldn't stand having this site offline - I asked him to send me all the rest of his site what he did, now it's here to be seen originally: http://www.kalpen.de/luke.

Test it, they're all there. I suppose, later I will create a frame from where you can get these pages without exactly knowing their names.

Good, thanks JTK. One last thing : why don't you ask Lukas to join back the community ?

JTK

I did! Of course. But he told me, that he is almost completely blind. He said that he hoped, it's not from playing Stunts that much. So he can't play video games anymore. :-\

Ouch, too bad... :( As far as I remember he has a sister also playing Stunts. Maybe we should persuade her to come back. ;)

Oh yes, he had! But she didn't really like racing. She was just testintg his tracks. He put her times on the scoreboard and used to say that if noone raced, his sister would win at least. :)

More than six years have gone by since JTK prevented an immense blow to Stunts memories by saving the irreplaceable Luke's site from oblivion. Through all of this time, however, I have held a wrong assumption about it. If you go to Kalpen's links page, you will see this notice (emphasis mine):

One very old site had to go offline but we could save it: The pages of legendary Lukas Loehrer, aka "Luke". Not everything is working anymore and the contest got lost, but there's a lot of information and nice tools to be found:

While back in 2007 I took note of this thread and rushed to check the archived pages, I never read it closely enough, and so I didn't notice Krys' first reply until today:

So the contest was not lost after all! While there appears to be nothing in the contest section of the site, all links above work if you replace n.ethz.ch/student/loehrerl with www.kalpen.de/luke . The tracks and replay packs are there as well. Additionally, the Wayback machine suggests there once was a rules page; and, sure enough, it can be found at http://www.kalpen.de/luke/contestinfo.html . The only page really missing is, it seems, the season summary; that is, the broken "some of the results" link in the contest entry page. Attached to this post is a sanitized copy of it recovered via Wayback Machine, dated from 2003. It contains links to the race scoreboards (which now point to the proper kalpen.de targets) as well as the final season scoreboard. JTK can upload it straight away to make the contest reachable again  :)

So, why I am telling you all that now? In another thread, Rotoi posted a link to the Yahoo group he and Alain used to maintain:

Do somebody remember the stunts community yahoo group? :)

http://games.groups.yahoo.com/group/stuntscommunity/

Having an Yahoo account at hand, I signed up to see what was there. Beyond piles of spam, there are around 150 legitimate posts, mostly from 2002, and some diverse memorabilia - gifs, jpegs, tools... and a pack with all tracks and results of Luke's contest. As I naïvely believed they had been Lost Forever, I immediately set out to try and recover the replay packs from the Wayback Machine. Only after reassembling everything I noticed the race pages still exist at Kalpen's. I probably look a little silly now... but the feeling of holding an ancient treasure was awesome, even if it only lasted a few hours before I got the facts straight  :)

So many ancient, unknown pipsqueaks. 16 years ago. Incredible.
But we can't be quite sure.
