How typical: lucky Real (winning such a game... grrrrr...), poor Atletico (losing 2 pts in the last few minutes). At least Barca destroyed the li'l Barca.

Messi and Maradona don't have the same background history from childhood. Maradona was very poor and Messi was not (he wasn't rich either, just an average working class family)

Quote"Messi may have four Golden Balls but I don't have to get on a box to buy a chocolate bar in a vending machine," Argentina website Canchallena reportedly quotes Ibrahimovic as saying.

"As for Cristiano Ronaldo, he's a privileged spectator, who only watches how Messi receives all his awards. He doesn't deserve to be in the top three, there are at least ten people better than him."

65' RMA-FCB 0-1, good match!

1-1, not that good.  >:(

Pedro screwed it up with the missed chance. Lucky Real again: Carvalho could get a red card for using his hand.

Negative surprise of the match was Messi's weak performance. Another observation: Carvalho, Modric and Khedira don't seem to be on Real Madrid level, while Varane is really promising young talent.

At least no goals from cristiana...

Title: Re: Football Fanats 2013
Post by: BonzaiJoe on February 04, 2013, 05:51:55 PM
Some thoughts about the situation in the Premier League:

You'd think the Premier League is just one league, but it's actually three:

The top teams: (Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal)
The candidate teams: (Tottenham, Everton, Liverpool)
The bottom: (Swansea, West Bromwich, Stoke, West Ham, Fulham, Sunderland, Southampton, Newcastle, Norwich, Reading, Wigan, Aston Villa, QPR)

Arsenal is doing badly at the moment, but you know they'll be back. Liverpool used to be a top club, but that was 4 years ago now. Tottenham is aspiring to be a top club, but they still need to stabilize in the top. Everton has been consistently finishing in the sup-top for some years now.

It's normal in the premier league to see a rather small point difference between relegated teams and 8th or 9th placed teams, and then big gaps toward the top.

So, what's going on in the top?

Manchester United wins the championship this year. They have been consistent, effective and patient like always, and many of their players are able to pull off sudden world class actions that have won them games. The "patience" of Manchester United might also explain why they are successful in the league at the moment, but not in the CL. The league format suits them because they can play it cool in each game and never panic. In "do or die" games, they might get in trouble if they come under pressure.

Manchester City had some collective spirit last year, fighting for the first championship for this club since the middle ages. Now they're champions of England and nobody cares. The players collect their paychecks and play unmotivated football, beating crap teams because they're really 100 times better players, but not having what it takes to win the championship.

Chelsea is not doing as well as they should, considering the great players they have. I think they're missing some consistency. Too many fired managers and too many players being bought and sold. And Fernando Torres is still playing. His level is good enough to play for Wigan or Sunderland, not for Chelsea.

Tottenham is my team. I'm very happy that they've kept Gareth Bale, and that they've started using Jermaine Defoe, who is one of the best strikers in the league in my opinion (only van Persie and Suarez are definitely better). The team has become very strong now. Hopefully they can manage to keep their players and stick to their ideas and live up to their full potential. Lately they have been playing a lot of draws and not scoring many goals.

Everton is finally looking like a serious team. Still, they shouldn't be able to get into the top 4, because their squad just isn't as strong as the other top teams'. Manager must be doing a really good job. They have been playing really well.

Arsenal are in the middle of a disappointing season. Giroud is totally hyped and their defence is too insecure. Their starting eleven is strong, but it's substantially weaker than a couple of years ago when they had Song, van Persie and Fabregas.

Liverpool has some great players, but they only play well in 1 of 3 matches.

I think we will see the same teams in the top in the next 2 years (with Arsenal and Liverpool improving a bit). The "bottom" has no serious contenders for entering the top. Only Newcastle has showed some potential, but it was just for one season.

Nice evaluation. I thought you will comment only this round.

La Liga is a lot easier task.

Top team: Barcelona
Lately only "almost top team": Real Madrid
Wannabe top teams: Atletico Madrid, Valencia
And the others in the mass...

I like him a lot. And I think he's really underrated. He's one of the best strikers there are today .Messi, Cristiano, Falcao, Agüero and maybe Zlatan have a higher shots/goal ratio. If Higuain gets a good ball inside the penalty area, chances of that ending in a goal are extremely high, no matter if it's a header, a volley, left or right foot, he will score. Benzema is far from Higuain's efficiency in that matter but still many consider Benzema really good and Higuain below him.

Underrated Higuain FTW! I love the way he shoots so accurate and well positioned in the field. He born for that, no doubt.

I like more "Pipita" than Agüero, because he has more "mental thing" and situational. Agüero is more foot ability I think.

I think Agüero is the 5th best Forward at the moment. Messi, Cristiano, Falcao, Van Persie, Agüero for me. He is a very efficient scorer as Higuain is, but he can create a space for himself much more often than Higuain, as Aguero is ways faster.

My subjective list

0 Illés Béla ;D
...
100000 LIGHT YEARS GAP
...
1 Messi
...
HUGE GAP
...
2 Ibrahimovic
3 Falcao
4 Van Persie
5 Balotelli (when he's not acting like a monkey)

cr is not top10, even if he scores 70 goals in a season. This is a team game, not personal glory hunting. (Neymar will be the same)

Yeah, I know, Ibra is selfish too. But he deserved the respect on the field (is he Chuck Norris of football? :D). You won't ever see him crying after a fake fall.

skid off list:

Let me explain it with a joke (it sounds a lot better in Hungarian, but never mind):

Quote from: forgot which joke site, but the translation sucks...The countries negotiate about their additional fate in Trianon after WWI. The Hungarian envoy volunteers for wishing to sound on the middle of the negotiation.
It is called upon!
- I would only like to say, that when we came here into Carpathian Basin, in that night the Romanians stole our horses.
The others do not understand it really, are asking the president what to do, if the Hungarian would like it if his remark would be registered.
- Not, it's not needed. I said it in that manner only...
The negotiation continues, the Hungarian wishes to sound again:
- I would only like to say, that when we came here into Carpathian Basin, in that night the Romanians stole our horses.
They are asking again what to do, does he wants to have it registered?
- It's not needed, I said it in that manner only...
The negotiation continues, the Hungarian asks for a permission for sounding again:
- I would only like to say, that when we came here into Carpathian Basin, in that night the Romanians stole our horses.
The head of the one sent from Romania is red already! He gushes out howling:
- But since we were not even here then!!
And now the Hungarian with a smile:
- OK, let this be registered...

I have a fav in most countries I watch footall from, though not always I hate a team from a Country.

Argentina - Gimnasia y Esgrima de La Plata are of course on top of the list

In Italy: AC Milan, the only one not playing awful catenaccio
In Spain: Valencia, not sure why, maybe from the Ortega era.
In England: Arsenal, I like Arsene Wenger's style
In The Netherlands: Ajax, fell in love with that amazing Ajax Yari Litmanen commanded in '95
In Portugal: Benfica, just because I like their shirt a lot
In Brazil: Flamengo, Savio had a lot to do with it
In Germany: Borussia Dortmund, I think because the kicked Juventus ass back in '97 Champions League, but not sure. Their shirt looks great too.

Rest of the leagues, they just suck.

About teams I hate: Estudiantes de La Plata (obviously), Man. United, Juventus (except during the Nedved era), Chelsea.

That's it for clubs. Now NT:
Love: Argentina, Czech Rep. (Only two NT I own their shirt)
Like: The Netherlands, Denmark, France, Japan (Cap. Tsubasa!), Russia.
Dislike: Italy, Germany, Brazil
Hate: England, Chile, Mexico, Portugal (Guess why?), Greece (awful style + Euro 2004)

Doesn't even qualify as a football team: USA (and every country calling it soccer)

Yes, in USA soccer must be called sucker :D

About teams:

Argentina: Racing Club.
Netherlands: PSV, since I played a game from 1990 and used this team. I use PSV in every football game I play :).
Spain: Barcelona, because of Messi, I am not win-it-all team friendly.
Portugal: Portugal? They play football there? OMG!
Italy: Inter (because when my father travel to there in the early 90's he brought me Klinsman's shirt :)

National Teams:
1st Argentina by far of course.
- Indonesia: When I was a boy I invented a football league of this country more than 20 teams and most of its players. :D
- Ecuador: I like this country.

"I love when they loose humiliatingly":
-Brazil, because is the classic of the region, continent and world. And England. Maybe USA too.

Counter-Hate: (I mean I had nothing against them until I realized they hate us!)
-Uruguay (This is funny because they hate us and they feel we are the best classic opponent, but we don't loose time against small ancient teams, we "fight" against the best (yeah, Brazil :()
-Chile It's funny they hate us too, but they sign in Argentinians as managers for their national team. So I want to see them humiliated too.

Before the "counter-hate" era I always, when Argentina was eliminated I chose to cheer for my neighbours like Uruguay. We have the same culture, we are more than brothers we are almost the same (also we were under the same government in the past). They are part of the "Rioplatense" culture (culture from De La Plata river), the food, the Tango, the way of speaking, everything, almost the same. Anyway I found most of them hate and envy us A LOT. Dissapointing.

Ambivalent feelings about the latest football results:

- Deep crisis at Barca, skid off Real!  >:(
- Atletico Madrid was quite impotent versus Malaga  ::)
- Juventus couldn't beat Napoli, wheeeeee! :P
- Györi ETO had a hard time against the weakling Kaposvár, only a lucky last minute victory (1-2)... however, 3 pts in the pocket, so who cares? :D Btw great comeback from the best ETO player of the last decade: Tarmo Kink assisted the first goal and scored the second one.
- Újpest sucked a really huge one: Paks humiliated them in their own stadium (0-6) ;D ;D ;D

:( screw Real Madrid. Unlucky red card for Manchester United. Actually, I think red cards should be abolished. The player should be sent off, but a new one allowed in (unless all substitutions have already been used), and then of course still suspension for the next matches and a fine for the club.

I think it's football's answer to death penalty.
Also, if the aim is that the best team wins the game, the rule about red cards works against this.

I hope cr goes back to MU and Mou also leaves the team - I hate to hate a spanish team so hard. Real Madrid with Hierro, Morientes and Raul used to be a noble opponent.

How strange: even if Puskás played in Real Madrid, most of the Hungarians prefer Barcelona...

There are lots of Argentinians that still prefer Cristiano R. over Messi. Sometimes people hate our own players because they don't win the world cup with Argentina (as if it were that easy...).
There is a stupid belief that Maradona won the entire cup all by himself, so people expect Messi to the same. They think Maradona is still better because Messi hasn't won a WC although that does not apply to Pele on ther very stupid logic.

I think Maradona is still, better just because he has many more years to improve his skills. We should compare them in 10 year to have a complete analysis or opinion.

They have diferences on the field.

I knew he would say Maradona is better, but he's not those that simply say 'Messi will be better than Maradona if he win the WC...'
Everytime somebody says that, I tell them Pele is the best then (he's not!), just to piss them off (which I manage to do every single time)

Yes, I think if Messi keeps this way, he'll be considered the best all times. He has a lot of story to write yet, that's the best of it. We can enjoy his game for a lot of time yet.

Time to give my lists. :)

National teams, liked:

1-2. Hungary & Slovakia
3. Norway
4. Germany
5. Uruguay
6. Denmark
7. Czech Republic
8. South Africa
9. Iceland
10. Liechtenstein

National teams, hated:

1. South Korea (since World Cup 2002)
2. Australia (riverkillers, go home!)
3. Romania
4. Greece
5. England
6. Portugal (incl. cr factor)
7. Sweden (incl. Ibra factor)
8. Netherlands
9. USA
10. Northern Ireland

Clubs, liked:

1. Szolnoki MÁV FC
2. MFK Košice
3. Viking Stavanger
4. Athletic Bilbao
5. Barcelona
6. Celtic
7. AZ Alkmaar
8. FC Eger (my favourite town of those with a 1st league team in Hungary)
9. MTK (Béla Illés spent his best years there, now it's a low-budget team based on young own trained players)
10. Kashiwa Reysol

Clubs, hated:

1. Paris SG (became the playground of a bored billionaire + Ibra factor)
2. Videoton (I think it doesn't need any comment)
3. Puskás Akadémia (Videoton II in Orbán's home village, playing in the 2nd division)
4. Chelsea (see at PSG)
5. Anzhi Makhachkala (see at PSG)
6. Real Madrid
7. Újpest FC
8. Bayern München
9. AC Milan
10. Ferencváros (would have been 1st on this list some years ago, but they didn't deserve the suffer they went through due to the leaders of Hungarian football and their own management, looking at the club only as a source of money).

Possible reasons:

-South Korea = USA colony since 1950
-they are yellow
-If there would be a Stunts Korean pipsqueak he'll be the best pipsqueak ever.
-they won a lot of matches in penalty kicks OMG in their own WC.

I don't know more :D haha
Title: Re: Football Fanats 2013

My reasons:

-South Korea = USA colony since 1950 --> 0.999 %
-they are yellow --> 0%
-If there would be a Stunts Korean pipsqueak he'll be the best pipsqueak ever. --> 0.001%
-they won a lot of matches in penalty kicks OMG in their own WC. --> 99%

In my eyes the latter was the greatest scandal of the history of World Cups. It happened before and after that referees made suspicious 'mistakes' during a single match. But that was the only case when they pushed a really crappy team against a series of definitely better opponents, and it was completely impossible to say that they were only lucky with the mistakes of the referee... Seeing the 'success' of South Korea, I seriously thought about stopping to watch international football.

I thought that might be the reason, but I didn't think you gave it that much importance. WC '66 semifinals were far a worse arrangement than 2002

Such refined distinctions... As for me, I support São Paulo, and lately I have been pretty much neutral whenever São Paulo is not involved. Teams I like to see doing well include Barcelona (too easy ::)) and Liverpool (jajaja); additionally, I have a slight dislike for Chelsea and Real Madrid (slight enough so that, for instance, I never had any issues with using a Madrid shirt I got as a gift back in my teens). And, naturally, laughing at Palmeiras and Corinthians still is as good a pastime as any  :D

As for NTs, beyond Brazil I have a soft spot for Poland, Japan, Sweden, Denmark and whichever team is playing great football at a given tournament - even Argentina sometimes  :o

Hungarian Second Division East

The spring season has started:

Round 16: Vác-Kazincbarcika cancelled (Vác is struggling with license problems, told the Football Association 1 days before the match that they won't be able to play the match, Kazincbarcika could not avoid postponing the match, travelled to Vác, there was no match played, Kazincbarcika might get the 3 points for the game - decision tomorrow, but Vác is still threathened with getting expelled from the championship)

Round 17: Kazincbarcika-Putnok 3-0

1          Békéscsaba                   17    9    7    1         36    :    20    16         34
2          Vasas                   17    10    3    4         26    :    18    8         33
3          Mez?kövesd                   17    9    2    6         26    :    20    6         29
4          Orosháza                   17    8    2    7         30    :    31    -1         26
5          Balmazújváros                   17    7    4    6         27    :    23    4         25
6          Nyíregyháza                   17    7    4    6         21    :    22    -1         25
7          Honvéd-MFA                   17    7    3    7         27    :    28    -1         24
8          Cegléd         17    6    6    5         32    :    28    4         22
9          Vác                   15    6    4    5         22    :    20    2         22
10          Ferencváros II                   17    6    3    8         26    :    29    -3         21
11          Kazincbarcika                   16    6    2    8         21    :    24    -3         20
12          Újpest II                   17    6    1    10         23    :    31    -8         19
13          Putnok VSE                   17    5    4    8         26    :    33    -7         19
14          Szeged 2011                   16    4    6    6         24    :    28    -4         18
15          Szolnok                   17    4    5    8         17    :    23    -6         17
16          Debrecen II                   17    4    4    9         22    :    28    -6         16

Cegléd: 2 pts were deducted.
Vác-Kazincbarcika and Szeged-Vác games were cancelled, no result shown in the table.

Best team will get promoted to top division (in the Western Group as well), they will be replaced by the 15th-16th placed teams (2 teams) of top division 2012/13 (currently Eger and Siófok). 2nd-5th placed teams from both Groups will play next year in the one-group Second Division (2x4=8 teams), 6th-8th placed teams of both Groups will play playoff games against the 6 third division champions for the remaining six places in the one-group Second division 2013/14.
"B" teams of top division teams (Honvéd-MFA, Ferencváros II, Újpest II, Debrecen II) do not count, so currently Vác would play a playoff game against a third division champion instead of Honvéd-MFA).

Our attack is second to none, defence is the weak point. If we manage to get solid on defence, then we can be truly candidates in 2014.
Attack wins matches, but it's defence that wins titles!

Hungarian supporters sang racist chants at Israel, I guess? It's too bad any non-racist supporters get punished for this, but if Hungary loses because of it, and the racist bitches care anything for the national team, it should teach them a lesson.

Could be even worse... I think the Hungarian national team is quite overconfident lately. Romania will give a huge slap, even if their current team is far the weakest I've ever seen.

The fans won't ever change. I still remember the good old Ferencváros vs Ajax Amsterdam CL round phase matches (1995/96), where all the 'N' players were insulted with loud "boo". As an answer, the Dutch team - being one of the best club in Europe at the time - humiliated FTC on both matches: 5-1, 4-0 (or something like that). Other results from the group: FTC-Real Madrid 1-1, 1-6; FTC-Grasshoppers 3-3, 3-0 (hohoho, Vincze Ottó! ;D).

Btw if the fans sang a racist song in Hungarian, who traited the country with telling it to FIFA? :D (Yeah, I know, it's hard to mishear the words "Auschwitz" or "Hitler"...)

Cegléd-Kazincbarcika postponed (due to severe snow drift conditions in the whole country)
Kazincbarcika-Ferencváros II 4-2

Standings:

1. Békéscsaba Elöre    18    9    7    2    38–23    +15     34
2. Vasas    18    10    3    5    28–21    +7     33
3. Mezökövesd-Zsóry    18    10    2    6    29–22    +7     32
4. Orosháza FC    18    9    2    7    31–31    0    29
5. Balmazújváros    17    7    4    6    27–23    +4     25

6. Nyíregyháza Spartacus    18    7    4    7    21–24    –3     25
7. Budapest Honvéd II-MFA    18    7    3    8    28–33    –5     24
8. Kazincbarcikai SC    17    7    2    8    25–26    –1     23
9. Ceglédi VSE    18    6    7    5    32–28    +4     23
10. Újpest FC B    18    7    1    10    25–31    –6     22
11. Dunakanyar-Vác    16    6    4    6    22–21    +1     22
12. Ferencvárosi TC II    18    6    3    9    28–33    –5     21
13. Szolnoki MÁV FC    18    5    5    8    20–25    –5     20
14. DVSC-DEAC    18    5    4    9    27–29    –2     19
15. Putnok VSE    17    5    4    8    26–33    –7     19
16. Szeged 2011    17    4    7    6    24–28    –4     19

That would mean a playoff for the one-group second division for Kazincbarcika.

Vác-Kazincbarcika and Szeged-Vác matches were not played. Vác played against Orosháza this time. 3 points will be awarded to Kazincbarcika and Szeged, or Vác still might get excluded from the championship (the latter one seems to be even more favourable, since last August Kazincbarcika sucked against Vác 1-3).

If Denmark wins against Bulgaria, we are definitely expected to take 2nd place in that group.

Mezökövesd-Kazincbarcika 2-1 - Mezökövesd is a top team in the league, and according to the news, we could have won this match

Kazincbarcika-Szolnok 2-2 - Annoying result again, Szolnok equalised with a late penalty, which was a bad decision by the referee

Hungarian championship: Györi ETO FC - Orbán FC (Videoton) 1-1

They are going to play against eachother soon in Hungarian Cup, too. I think ETO will lose the championship from several points of advantage in the last few rounds (whatever the experts say, Videoton will be the champion by a heavy cheat).

Standings:

1   GYÖRI ETO FC               22 15 6 1   44 : 18 26   51
2   MTK BUDAPEST             22 12 5 5   35 : 21 14   41
3   VIDEOTON FC               23 11 6 6   38 : 18 20   39
4   FERENCVÁROSI TC        22 10 8 4   39 : 26 13   38
5   DEBRECENI VSC            23 11 3 9   33 : 23 10   36
6   BUDAPEST HONVÉD       22 9 5 8   34 : 33 1   32
7   MVM-PAKS                     23 7 11 5   34 : 25 9   32
8   DIÓSGYÖRI VTK            22 8 7 7   21 : 24 -3   31
9   KECSKEMÉTI TE            22 8 6 8   27 : 30 -3   30
10   HALADÁS                    23 7 9 7   26 : 21 5   30
11   KAPOSVÁRI RÁKÓCZI  23 8 5 10   26 : 28 -2   29

That was one really weird game. Even though Bayern really deserved that 4 goals difference, 3 out of the 4 goals where illegal if you ask me.
On the 1º one, the guy that heads the ball before Muller is clearly over the defender, illegally keeping him from jumping to fight for the ball.
The 2º is off-side, nothing to say here.
Muller curtain to cover Robben from Alva on the 3º should have been called a foul, that move is legal in basketball but not in football.

On the other hand, a PK should have been called for Bayern when Pique touched the ball with his hand.

Let's hope for a German Final

Don't worry about Pep, he was just a metrosexual muppet with Vilanova's knowledge in the background. He'll fail at Bayern.

(There's no question anymore: Lewandowski is a world-class forward. Too bad, if he really goes to Bayern. Btw I hate this kind of BM strategy: buying the best players of your rivals - not to get stronger, but to make those teams weaker.)

Predictions for the re-matches:

Barcelona - Bayern 2-1 (Messi, Pedro; Müller)
Real - Dortmund 3-0 (c.r. 3 goals... I hope it won't happen)

26th round:

Újpest - Györi ETO FC 1-2 ;D

4 rounds left, we are 7 pts ahead. Believe me, ETO won't be the champion - we have too strong opponents left. Videoton will "win" the title with an "epic" finish, skid you Orbán!

Remaining rounds:

Györi ETO - Ferencváros (5th)
Budapest Honvéd (4th) - Györi ETO
Györi ETO - MTK Budapest (3rd)
Eger (16th) - Györi ETO

Debrecen (6th) - Videoton
Videoton - Kaposvár (12th)
Kecskemét (7th) - Videoton
Videoton - Pécsi MFC (13th)

Meanwhile in second class, "Videoton B" a.k.a. Puskás Akadémia wins the championship with a huge gap. Orbán's son is also playing there - shall I say he's not really talented (as far as I know he doesn't really play that much :D)? Since second teams are not allowed to qualify to first class, Puskás Akadémia is not a B team anymore...

ETO anthem (punk song from the 90s, low quality :D):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vJYLCW25_hA

Egy csapat van csak nyugaton, a Rába ETO
A védelme sziklaszilárd, kapusa csuda jó
Csatársora, mint a villám, gyors és góllövö
Így lehet csak NB1-es bajnok a Rába ETO

Egy csapat van csak nyugaton, Juventust ebédel
Úgy játszik ellenfelével, mint macska az egérrel
Csatársora kés a vajban, akárhogy is fáj
Fújhat a szél is, gyözni fog mégis a 11 györi király

Trombita harsog, itt jön a bajnok, györinek lenni jó
Reszeli mester a titkos fegyver, a legjobb csapat az ETO
Trombita szól, most jön a gól, akárhogy is fáj
Fújhat a szél is, gyözni fog mégis a 11 györi király

Porto - Benfica, better than any Spanish duels in this weekend.

Miklós Fehér played in both teams (+Salgueiros and Braga too) - but died in Benfica. Mixed emotions. Go... hmmmm... Benfica! But if Porto wins, it's still not a tragedy. I like this kind of matches.

Alan:
1. What have they done for this title since the CL semi-finals? They will be champions because Real was lazy and lost plenty of points against mediocre teams earlier...
2. What's the value of the Spanish championship? Perhaps it was the strongest league a few years ago, but now it's behind Bundesliga and Premier League. That's the straight result of having a "2-team championship", a lot of matches with no challenge for the big ones. (It will be also dangerous for Bayern...)
3. Györi ETO also won a championship. Does it mean that we're in the ETO era now?  ;)

Btw, congratulations to ETO - and last but not least to Debrecen, who finally kicked the ass of Orbán FC, and gave the chance for ETO.

It's on facebook.

But my personal page with limited access. Unfortunately you are one of my "friends" (I wish you weren't), therefore you can see my pictures and any personal data. When I put a picture there, I do it by good faith. So you mean if I put some personal data (like a CV, a family photo, a phone number) on the web, you can just use it for anything? Read the legal regulations of any community sites.

What would you do if I download your / your family's pictures and transform it to something really ugly? I guess you would be mad. Of course I won't do it, 'cause it's way too childish, unethic and useless. As I told you yesterday on Facebook, this isn't funny at all. When we mock eachother here in the Forum, we are playing a game with our web characters: Rotoi, the master of dumb jokes vs CTG, the schizophrenic ghostmaster. It has nothing to do with our real personality. But when you "utilize" something from the real person's private data, it turns to disgusting. You know me: I don't restrain myself in the insults. But even my "rotten" web character respects the real person, at least by not using anything personal before any online communities.

You can say anything to 'CTG', any kind of insults or useless hurting words, I simply won't care, because your target is not my real personality. But if you do with me, not with my "mask" used on the web, you harm an existing person's private rights. You (Patricio) are a grown-up, hopefully not only by age, so you should know this.

The easiest solution would be to ask the web provider to remove that meme, but I guess it's pointless.

Mr. Varga asks you to remove that picture.

Strange season. The top teams in the PrL and La Liga have been disappointing. Barcelona and Man U won the championships, but didn't get far enough in CL. Chelsea managed to get a decent season by winning the EL and qualifying for CL. Disastrous seasons for Real Madrid and Manchester City (skid'em'both).
I'm not sure if the Bundesliga is getting stronger or if this CL is a one-off.

I don't really think Neymar is as good as media says he is. He still has a lot to prove and learn.

For Neymar: He will have a good place to mature pressure-less in a team he doesn't have to lead and where he is not the main star and referent.

For Barça: Any player taking Alexis Sanchez place is an improvement, even if that player is me.

Neymar is a dirty cheater. One example: His team is winning 5 - 0, he trys to humilliate even more the opponent and then dives for red card.

Neymar gets angry because they didn't let do the penalty kick and then he started to "troll" all the match. A good teammate.

That happens because coaches today don't have what it takes to run team. If I were a coach (and one day I will be, when I have the time to take the course) and one of my players does that, he's out of that match and maybe next one too. I don't care who you think you are, respect is the most important thing.

He is talented, no questions about it. So is Vettel. They both have a team that let's them do what they want without any consequences. They're both going down the same path that leads to being a disrespectful, hated sportsman

As far as I know, Israel joined the Asian football association, when the state was founded. However, after one of the wars (1967?) the Arabic opponents boycotted the matches against Israel, and the "solution" was adding Israel to UEFA.

If you take a look at which teams made it to the Last 16 in the last World Cups, you'll see Europe should have more slots in the World Cup than they do today. So should South America, by the way. Crappy teams from Asia, Oceania and North America are being included for political reasons.

I agree. In my opinion, the correct distribution of the 32 slots should be like the following: 18 for Europe, 6 for South America, 3 for Africa (there are some good teams like Ivory Coast, Ghana, Nigeria, Egypt), 3 for North and Central America (USA, Mexico plus maybe one), 2 for Asia+Oceania (Japan, Australia).

I would rather make a World Cup with less teams.
Europe has 7 good teams: England, France, The Neds, Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal + 4 that change from one WC to another which usually are 4 of the following: Switzerland, Ukraine, Czech Rep, Sweden, Serbia, Greece, Russia, Poland, Ireland. So let's say Europe gets 11 places

SA has 3 really good teams: Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay + 2 that are Colombia, Ecuador, Paraguay or Chile. SA gets 5 places

NA should have only 2 place for Mexico & USA.

Africa should have 4 places to be usually awarded to: Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, Egypt or Cameroon

Asia + Oceania should have 2 spots. Usually Japan or Australia would usually take this spots.

That's it, 24 places as it was before. And a WC where you don't get Jamaica, Trinidad & Tobago, Saudi Arabia, Honduras and such

I think if we consider the 'strong team' term as strictly as Rotoi, England and Uruguay has no place in the mentioned group. The others are okay. In Rotoi's suggestion, I think Europe has too few, South America and Africa has a bit too many world cup spots. I agree with BJ, see how much European teams are in the last 16 teams tournament by tournament.

I think in the best 16 teams in the whole world, there are only European teams and Brazil and Argentina.

Uruguay and Mexico are only in the top24. There is probably still no Asian, Oceanian and North American team in the world top24. That's why a multi-continent top24 world cup would be not suitable: weak teams would steal spots to a bigger extent.

Spots for a 24 team world cup in my opinion: 14 Europe, 4 South America, 2.5 Africa, 2 North and Central America, 1.5 Asia&Oceania.

I don't want to see South Korea in the World Cup in the following 50 years. After 2002, they should have been banned for a very long time. Btw I think they are weaker than Japan and Australia, they don't really match the 32-team World Cup level (with the system suggested by me earlier).

Ok, but take in mind that South America has a lot of less places so the chances to be top in South America are fewer.

For example, even with a fragmented country like Yugoslavia, they have two 1st places and a third place in group round (Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro and Serbia). Then a super weak team like Belgium is in 1st place too, Switzerland too and in second places we have Austria, Hungary and Greece. I can't accept that is a "strong" association.

When such "super weak" teams qualify for a World Cup, they are able to play tight games against the big ones, and have a good chance for making it to the top 16. From 2010, compare the performance of Slovakia or Slovenia with North Korea, and decide which continent has too many spots... I'm not talking against South America: probably Ecuador or Colombia might have been much stronger than Honduras, Algeria or North Korea.

Optimal numbers, in my opinion:

America (N+S together, as the South American teams might be bored with facing always the same rivals...): 9
Asia+Oceania: 3.5
Africa: 3.5
Europe: 16

Btw, tournaments with 24 teams are shitty. It is pure luck which decides between the 3rd teams of different groups... Let it be either 16 or 32, but not 24.

No way! 5º place in SA is much harder to get than 14º place in Europe. 5º SA can most of the times easily beat 14º Europe.
Main problem with European qualifiers is the system is really bad. Having the best teams in 9 groups does not mean you get the best teams qualified. Sometimes a very crappy team can win its group while a better one can't qualify because the get grouped with 2 "strong"countries.
Another thing I think should be done is automatically qualify last champion (as it was before) and not the local team

If that was true, you would have seen Hungary in some World Cups during the last 25 years. :) Actually, the groups are filled from "pots" based on the FIFA world rankings. So all groups include one of the strongest teams (top 9 Europeans), one of those between place 10-18, etc... Then for the second round, the runners-up are also seeded from two pots (based on the actual world ranking). So if a lucky "weak" team manages to be second in the group, they surely get a strong opponent. If they can beat them, they really deserve to be at the World Cup.

A similar system could work nicely in America (together, from the north to the south). The best would be to see the US suffering in front of 100.000 Argentinian/Brazilian/Venezuelan/etc. fans. And Honduras/Jamaica/etc. would get the chance to prove if they think that they belong to the top 32 of the world.
:)

I agree, the title holder should not play qualification matches, I would also give them a spot on the next World Cup. But it should be a spot from the local (continental) quota. I would also keep the spot for the organizing country, it would also be a spot from the local quota.

Some years ago, the seeding of European team was based on the points collected on the previous two qualification series (one European Championship qualification, one World Cup qualification). That was much more realistic than the FIFA rankings, which can easily be manipulated with friendly matches.

I think in Europe, after the top 5-6 or 7 teams, there is a group of around 15 teams which are almost of equal strength. They can beat everybody in South America expect for Brazilia and Argentina.

I know only a little about him, but he has a big experience as manager mainly in Paraguay. He was a player and manager of Newell's Old Boys, a big club from Rosario. Messi is fan of Newell's and maybe his opinion was decisive. Newell's is the last local champion.

He coached a couple of team in Paraguay and won two titles there (With Libertad and Cerro Porteño). He also coached Paraguay NT, reaching SA 2010 quarter-finals (taking Spain to extra time) and Copa America's final in 2011 (finally losing to Uruguay). After that, he coached Newell's Old Boys here in Argentina, winning the local title and reaching Copa Libertadores semi-final before losing in PK against Ronaldinho's Atletico Mineiro.

He's talented, Bielsa school. There is enough potential to do something great, especially having Messi on the team

Hmmm... somehow I think this one will be Real Madrid's season. But who knows? (I would be glad to see a tight championship between the best 4-6 Spanish teams - but it's more likely to have another Barcelona/Real TOP2, 15-20 points gap, Valencia/Atletico Madrid/Sevilla/whatever tabelle).

Honvéd-Niksic 9-0, that is definitely a fixed game, it was terrible to watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QfykkRIFjk0

DVSC-Strömsgodset: there were some big chances for Debrecen where I felt that the forward just didn't want to score the goal...

Honvéd-Vojvodina Novi Sad (Újvidék) and Györ-Tel-Aviv: the two Hungarian sides just didn't want to play football... it was like Celik Niksic against Honvéd, but less prominent...

I feel that this was the price for last year's Videoton 'super' performance...

Kazincbarcika failed to finish in the top8 last season, moreover, due to financial and motivation problems, finished the season with an awfully bad streak, losing almost all matches by a big goal difference...

People say the club managed to get stabilized, and we can compete in the NB III Group East.

In the new season, there are much less clubs competing in the NB divisions, 16 teams in NB I, 16 teams in NB II and 3x16 teams in NB III (last year: 16, 2x16, 6x16).

The NB III East teams are:

Cigánd
DVSC-DEAC (Debrecen)
Ebes
Eger
Felsötárkány
Ferencváros II (Budapest)
Hajdúböszörmény
Hatvan
Jászapáti
Kazincbarcika
Létavértes
Nyírbátor
Putnok
REAC (Budapest)
Tiszaújváros
Veresegyház

It will be interesting to see matches against Eger, Felsötárkány, Tiszaújváros and especially Putnok, they will be the local rivals. Eger and Felsötárkány will also be the team which I like in the group besides Kazincbarcika. Veresegyház is the hometown of CTG's main chat b!tch, so I'm looking forward to that match, too.

First match: August 17, Felsötárkány-Kazincbarcika.

It is obvious that it was fixed, but I still can't understand how could they do it in such a stupid way, and why wasn't an average defeat enough for the Monten*s. It's nowhere possible to bet on a result like 9:0...

About the others: I agree that the Hungarian teams simply didn't want to go further in the cups. I'm afraid that there is a simple reason for that: they can earn way too much money with a relatively good performance in the crappy Hungarian league. (Yes, this is due to Orbán and his mafia.) Therefore they don't want to risk their podium place in NB I with focusing on European cups...

Danish teams are also sucking in Europe

AaB lost to Dila Gori from Georgia and were eliminated (which is kind of okay because that team eliminated AGF last year and this makes us look less stupid)

Randers FC lost at home to Rubin Kazan and will of course also lose in Russia and be finished

FC Nordsjælland got completely thrashed by Zenit St. Petersburg in the CL play-off and will now play Elfsborg from Sweden in the EL play-off

Esbjerg fB faces St. Etienne from France in the EL play-off. They will get whacked.

FC København is directly qualified for CL group stage, but they are currently sucking hard in the Danish league, losing the first three games and taking last place.

I think the real reason why I prefer the PL is that I feel more related to British culture. I know bands and people from London, Manchester, Liverpool, Birmingham, and have many friends who support British clubs. I also have friends who support Real Madrid and Barcelona, but none who care about the other 18 teams fighting for 3rd place.

That being said, I also appreciate that the top is a bit more spacey in the PL. I have no doubts about the football quality of La Liga.

Levante was a way too easy opponent for the "new" Barca. The first real test will be in the third round, against Valencia.

Meanwhile RMA didn't deserve victory versus Betis. But it was nice to see cr's impotent attacks...  ;D It's no use to evaluate a player after a single match, but Isco is a promising attacker - both as a scorer and a team member.

Very important match for Hungary this Friday... If you can beat Romania away, you just need to win at home vs Estonia and you're in the play-off for the World Cup. Draw could be enough if Romania and Turkey also draw with each other and you don't mess up your goal difference.

I'm afraid that we'll make it, but then the play-off (surely against a stronger team) will be a shame again - as it was in 1997:

A match in classification can hardly be our worst moment... I think it was much worse when we were humiliated by Germany 4-0 last world cup, or when we were eliminated in round robin in 2002...

Most humiliating moment: June 11, 2013, Denmark - Armenia 0-4

Classic disastrous match that people are still talking about 27 years later, but which was not actually that humiliating because it was the World Cup, last 16, vs Spain:

Jesper Olsen was a great player, but he is still primarily known for Spain's first goal in that match.

The legendary shame for our generation: 1997, World Cup qualification play-offs vs Yugoslavia, sum: 12-1
The latest pathetic result: 2006, EC qualifications; Malta-Hungary 2-1

Sure they still talk about it. I mean, if you historically suck at a sport and win by a large margin to one of the historically top teams, in their home, you'll always remember. On the other hand, we beat Colombia 18-8 (and 6 draws) face to face, but we don't spend our time talking about it

From the short Youtube video, it seems that the Argentinians were not crappy, but extremely unlucky that day... If they had scored from at least one of their big chances in the beginning, it would have been a very different game. In the disastrous games in Hungary (against USR & YUG), it was obvious from the first minutes that we would be humiliated, independently of luck.

Well, even if it happens (chance: under 0.1 percent):

- we must win against Andorra
- we have a fair chance of being the worst second place team

But today a good 5-1 win against Estonia.

We have no chance of being a second place team.

Remaining duels & expectations:

Andorra - Romania, whitewash (0-6 or so)
Estonia - Turkey, difficult victory for the guests (0-1)
Netherlands - Hungary, another whitewash (5-0)

Turkey - Netherlands, boring draw (1-1)
Romania - Estonia, gipsies will reach the play-offs with the help of French refrees (2-0, red card and a penalty against EST)
Hungary - Andorra, a useless tiny victory (2-0)

No, the second place team might change, and they have one more match than us (of course counting matches only against 1st, 3rd-5th place teams). And our remaining match is against Holland... and we are the second worst second place team.

Btw a Turkish win against Holland would send us to 4th place in the group, that would be the worst.

You're right. That's really stupid though. There's no reason to ignore matches against the 6th seed unless the runner-up from the 5-team group is 9th.
And what about group E, which has the 6th seed (Iceland) in 2nd place?

They don't ignore matches against the 6th seed team, but against the 6th placed team in the group. This would be quite lucky for Iceland: they might be the only potential 2nd placed team who lost against the 6th (Cyprus-Iceland 1-0).

Not the seeding is what counts, but the position in the group. That's why second place team might change in your group (currently: Bulgaria, though they were only 4th seed), and that's why even sixth place team might change in some of the groups (that would mean different matches might get ignored in the end). Since Group I has only 5 teams (only 53 teams belong to UEFA, not 54), it had to be introduced that the matches against 6th placed teams don't count.
Title: Re: Football Fanats 2013

I understand that they had to develop a way to compare the 5-team group with the 6-team groups, but why is this method used to compare 6-team groups with each other? You're not a better team if you lose to a crap team and win against a good team, than if you win against a crap team and lose against a good team.
Title: Re: Football Fanats 2013

Also, seedings shouldn't be based on the FIFA ranking, but only on the amount of points scored in previous qualification tournaments.
Title: Re: Football Fanats 2013
Post by: Chulk on September 11, 2013, 05:58:32 PM
Europe qualy system is too complicated having play-off and all. FIFA should find a way to include another country an make it 54 (for example: winner of "OFC Nations cup" could join Europe qualy) and make things easier. 6 groups of 9, top 2 per group + best 3º position.

I would actually prefer World Cups with less teams.
24 teams, where the best 8 seeds go straight into 1/8 finals. The other 16 teams form 4 groups of 4 teams each and the best 2 advance to 1/8. Random selection of the matches in 1/8 and play-off straight to the finals.
That way we wouldn't have so many crappy teams qualified...
Title: Re: Football Fanats 2013
Post by: Akoss Poo a.k.a. Zorromeister on September 11, 2013, 06:55:08 PM
@BJ: I agree, the previous system was fairer and better. By fixing some easy friendly matches, you can improve your seeding - that's ridiculous. Also I think that improves the world ranking position of non-European, non-South American teams, since they play more harder games (against each other!)  than teams from other continent.

@Chulk: But when Europe host a World Cup (or an European Championship), 1 or 2 teams don't have to play qualifiers, therefore, even 54 teams would be a bit few. Though, if we remain with the 9 groups in Europe, I think we should ensure a place for the worst second placed team in the playoffs as well (the worst ranking can be due to strength of other teams for example); it would be fairer if the worst second placed team also played a playoff match - against the worst first place team maybe.

Yes, what a great name. And a great result of the match, too!

All in all, a wonderful Saturday. Chelsea lost, Real Madrid drew, Tottenham won (with a great debut for Christian Eriksen), and local small (but playing in the 2nd best league) team Brønshøj won 3-0 against Vendsyssel from Northern Jutland.

Brønshøj is a small pocket of old football culture, deep in the dreary suburbs of Copenhagen. Brønshøj are known as 'the wasps' because they play in black and yellow stripes. They've got a small stadium with a capacity of about 1000 spectators. Old local activists serve beer and grilled sausages at half time, and they don't take credit cards. It's a club with a solid history (founded 1919), and it's got a devoted fan base. About 100 dedicated fans who are there at every home match. Around 30 or 40 of them call themselves 'the Drunken Army' (and they've got t-shirts to prove it). They sing, loudly and completely out tune, for 90 minutes on end. Whether winning or losing, the songs are full of humor and irony. When Brønshøj win, the players come over and run along the grandstand, high-fiving the fans.
When not playing football, the players take part in projects to help integration in the area through football (the area has a lot of poor immigrants and unruly immigrant adolescents).
Last year, Brønshøj came close to a promotion to the 'Superliga', the top league. Unfortunately they collapsed in the last 5 matches. Anyway it would have meant some drastic changes which might not have been good in the long run.

This was called as a Free Kick today at my city's derby match. The referee saw the ball hit Gimnasia's player hand ???
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=taO0PaDEw5E

which resulted in a red card for him and Estudiantes goal for a 1-1 final score
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uyCQITGK1hU

I knew this was going to happen on Thursday when ref was assigned as every time this ref (Laverni) is in charge of a match where we (Gimnasia) are involved, there's always an (at least) doubtful PK, red card, goal or something benefiting the other team...

you can't expect him to function optimally in a new team after so few matches. It takes a lot longer.
I agree on that so I didn't expect him to work well with the team. The thing is he didn't don anything of what he did team-independently before.
Maybe it has to do with Premier League defences being a lot weaker than La Liga's, but still...

I agree he's not done anything extraordinary yet, but I don't think he did anything team-independently at Tottenham. The last season or two, the team's strategy was to feed him the ball constantly and set him up for doing something extraordinary. So he had much better chances than in a Real Madrid team with several other superstars, and Ronaldo who's a bigger star than him by all standards.

That is true, let's see what happens when the team starts trusting him and feeding him more (Ronaldo played a really crappy match against Atletico but still RM player kept feeding him instead of trying the other alternative "superstar".

How much groups are above your fifth class team? 1 in NB I, 1 in NB II, 3 in NB III and many in divisional first class.

Let alone how much clubs...

But above KBSC, there is only two groups in this country, namely only 48 clubs. And KBSC is a strong team in NB III.

Hungary-Andorra 2-0 (0-0)

1. Netherlands          10  9  1  -   34- 5   28 pts - qualified
2. Romania          10  6  1  3   19-12   19 - playoff for qualification
3. Magyarország  10  5  2  3   21-20   17
4. Turkey    10  5  1  4   16- 9   16
5. Estonia      10  2  1  7    6-20    7
6. Andorra            10  -  - 10    0-30    0

Well, seeing the table, it doesn't seem THAT awful... We finished above 2nd seed Turkey, stealing 4 points against them. We defeated home and away Estonia, who played ECH playoff matches 2 years ago. We almost beat Romania at home... that stupid goal in the overtime cost the 2nd place in the group...

But... 3 out of the last 4 matches were awful... 0-3 in Romania, 1-8 against Holland, 2-0 against Andorra... playing alibi football, without motivation... we wouldn't have deserved to play in the playoff series. Moreover, maybe it was better to avoid the shameful results there...

The Hungarian coach resigned.

You were much closer to play-off than you have been in the latest qualifications. As you said, it would just have required a win against Romania at home. And it was not an easy group. Three high-quality teams. Maybe next time...

All in all, it was a messy and disappointing performance. They only played really well in the last three matches, and by then it was too late. Of course this is better than if they had only played well in the first three matches, because this bodes better for the future.
We lost the qualification by drawing at home vs Bulgaria and Czech Republic (when we had the chance to win), and, of course, by losing 0-4 to Armenia at home. I think that's the most embarrassing result for Denmark in my lifetime.
Even if we had won vs Italy, I guess we would not have qualified (because in that case I think Croatia would have at least gotten a draw vs Scotland). It was a difficult group because all teams except Malta had considerable quality, but the end result was that we lost because of some sloppy and unstructured performances, when we could have won.

I don't feel resentful about being the worst 2nd, cause we really were the worst 2nd. We didn't deserve to qualify for play-offs. Of course we had one of the difficult groups, while Switzerland / Slovenia / Norway / Iceland / Albania / Cyprus was a ridiculously weak group, but there were other strong groups, and we would have qualified if we had played decently in the first 7 matches.
Title: Re: Football Fanats 2013

I think the points a team collect against group opponents rather depend on the strength of other teams. Armenia is an improving team, just check the results of their club teams. The ITA-DEN-CZE-BUL-ARM is probably at least as strong as the NED-ROM-HUN-TUR-EST group. Probably the two strongest groups.

So I think we should give a chance to the worst 2nd, too. It would be a better idea to send the worst first placed team to playoff round, having 8 secure qualifiers and 5 playoff series. Sending a team to playoff just because they were the worst xth position team is way better than sending a team out of qualification for the same reason. Give a chance to all 1st-2nd placed teams, I think.

But still, remembering Euro 2004, I can't feel sad for Team Denmark, since my favourite team is (for cca. 20 years) Italy.

But still, remembering Euro 2004, I can't feel sad for Team Denmark, since my favourite team is (for cca. 20 years) Italy.

Really? Did you watch the game? You realize there is a reasonable possibility of a game legitimately ending in a 2-2 draw, right?
I think the last minute of the game was embarrassing, because Sweden didn't push forward. Nothing wrong with the rest of the match.

I watched the full game on tv. I was sure that Italy would win against Bulgaria, and they qualification to the playoff round would depend on the honesty/dishonesty of the Scandinavians. Of course I knew that it would finish 2-2.

Old Hungarian players told to the public that when they had to play a fixed result, they always knew how to play that without being noticable. That's all. DEN-SWE (2-2) was a fixed game. But even if you convince me somehow, there are still millions of people left...

UEFA, with a Swedish president, Johansson, didn't investigate the match for some unknown reason...

Well, that may be the case, but I also have conclusive evidence that it is possible games to end 2-2 without being fixed. Since you are making the accusation, you have the burden of proof. I see nothing that indicates foul play except the the last minute, after the last goal.
Come to think of it, the last minute totally disproves your theory. If they were playing for a fixed result but trying to make it look natural, why the heck did they act completely unnatural in the end?? The Swedish players had no reason to do this if they had already fixed the game.

Okay, so only NSO was too slow, playoff duels are the following:

Portugal - Sweden; prediction: POR-SWE 1-0, SWE-POR 2-1 (cr scores in the 98th minute from penalty given after a fake foul); btw go Ibra, humiliate cristiana or at least kick his head! ;D
Ukraine - France; prediction: UKR-FRA 1-1, FRA-UKR 3-1
Greece - Romania; prediction: GRE-ROM 0-0, ROM-GRE 2-0
Iceland - Croatia; prediction: ISL-CRO 1-2, CRO-ISL 3-1

Crap draw. Iceland has almost no chance, and Greece or Romania will qualify instead of Sweden.

French continued to cry until FIFA made them seeded (and Sweden unseeded)... though I think they'll face a hard time against Ukraine...

I really feel sad for the Swedish.

I hope the Greek will demolish the rats (Romanians).

I see the Croatian qualification quite hopeful.

Qualification (in my opinion): France, Portugal, Greece, Croatia.
Qualification (my wishlist): Ukraine, Sweden, Greece, Croatia.

I'm glad Real Madrid's "buy the most expensive players available and hope they do well together" strategy keeps failing. Atlético is a very interesting team this season. They haven't been this close to the lead this far into the tournament for many years.

My rank:

Nope. YOU'RE NO FOOTBALL HIPSTER! You like goals, goals, goals, pronounce Milan as Milan rather than Mee-lan, and quite frankly you're not really sure you'd recognise a false nine if one came up and shook you by the hand. You've got some work to do. Start off with a video of the 1991 European Cup final between Red Star Belgrade and Marseille and work from there.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
11    FC Nordsjælland14    4    3    7    13-23    15

These rankings are quite surprising for me. Brøndby is traditionally strong (or at least it was when I followed the Danish league several years ago), while Nordsjælland played in CL or EL lately...

Yes, it is a bit surprising. Brøndby is in a long crisis, with constant economic problems and leadership changes. They are on a good streak right now, though. FC Nordsjælland sold some good players after winning the championship, and now their system is not working anymore. But the league is very, very close. The teams almost all have the same strength.

On another note, Esbjerg just qualified for the knock-out stage of EL. Well done Esbjerg!

Yes. Really well-played first half. AGF had a goal mistakenly annulled for a non-existent offside :-(.
Thomas is there on the stadium.

To be honest, Messi doesn't deserve it this year. My choice is Ribery.

The original plan was taking the kickoff and staying still for a minute. The referee, following orders from the bloody CBF, threatened issuing 22 yellow cards, so the players carried it out in a more amusing way.

- Ribery cannot win the Golden Ball unless he qualifies for the WC (which is very unlike given today's result).
- Messi cannot win it either this year. He played badly (for his standards, but still being ways better than most)
- Cristiano lacks titles to deserve the award so my bet is...
- Robben (Bundesliga, German Cup and Champions league winner, UEFA CL finals MVP, The Netherlands qualifying easily and undefeated to the WC)

About Brazilian protest, what was the issue?

About Brazilian protest, what was the issue?

The more immediate demands are for a more sensible season calendar - well-defined holidays and pre-season, fewer mid-week games (the Brazilian championship has Wed/Thu rounds as well as Sat/Sun ones, leading to long stretches of games every ~3.5 days), a year-long schedule for the lower levels of the pyramid, and so forth. Série A players have organized a pressure group called Bom Senso FC, and staged the protests as a reaction to not being taken seriously by the CBF.

To clarify why this is exciting:
San Lorenzo AT Velez Sarsfield
Lanus AT Newell's

San Lorenzo has 32pts, the other 3 have 30, so chances to have a final tie-breaking match are pretty high.

Have you considered what an extremely lucky draw Argentina got for the WC?

Not only do you guys have the easiest of all the groups. In the last 16, you face the runner-up from group E, which is likely to be either Ecuador or Switzerland.

Even in the QF where you could easily expect a world class opponent, you probably face either Portugal, Ghana, USA or Belgium. Strong teams of course, but not world class.

In the semis: Spain or Italy.

Brazil, on the other hand, has a very difficult draw. Even though the group is only half-strong, Brazil has a real killer match in the Last 16 against either Spain (reigning World and European champions) or Netherlands (eliminated Brazil in 2010). There's  a real chance of being eliminated in the Last 16, which would be a disaster.

Since the results of the world cups are arranged, it won't happen.

I think Ribéry deserved it, but marketing decided against him.
Anyway, it was now or never for Cristiano as he depends on Messi being injured to win

I think it was really fair. Ribéry was mainly nominated because his team was the best in the world this year. But Ronaldo was the best player. Real Madrid games are always the same story. Sloppy, lazy play most of the match, and then suddenly Ronaldo does something amazing and it's 1-0. Then suddenly it's 2-0 and 3-0.
If course he's not as good as Messi when Messi is at full strength, but this year he hasn't been.
