Title: Generations - (2024-03-17)
Post by: alanrotoi on March 11, 2024, 01:00:30 AM
melis.png

The first live event of the year is coming the 17th of March! (Next Sunday) in the Chatroom. The time is the following:

09:00 Buenos Aires
09:00 São Paulo
12:00 London
13:00 Amsterdam
13:00 Rome
13:00 Budapest
22:00 Brisbane

The car for this race will be Melange XGT-88... ALL OF THEM! Yes, we'll race with all versions of Melange. Why? I saw there was a confusion here and there of wich is the official version of the car so I finally decided to build the official version: Melange XGT-88 1.0 . As always the 1.0 version only had a small 3d shape enhancement.
The idea is to have all the versions racing in the same race. The version 1.0 will inherit the ID "CDOR" while the other versions will be assigned with similar IDs only revealed the day of the race. All the versions has the same performance and physical characteristics, the only changes are aesthetic in the dashboard and the 3d shape.
The versions are:

Please feel free to choose any of these versions for the race but please let's try to have one of each at least.

The track is GENERATIONS a fast and easy track that will be shared in the following days but you can check the flyer below. The cars will be shared the same day of the race because of the change of the car ID but meanwhile you can test drive any version while all of them has the same performance.

Thank you! Since all versions has at least one pick I'll pick the v1.0 and a color nobody used so no problem with it. As manager of the event I'll adapt to the pipsqueaks selections. :)

This is the track for tomorrow. Almost the same track with a couple elements changed. Take a look and give a try for tomorrow! Remember the car is Melange.

The rules will be the same. Race as many as laps possible. We'll have 12 minutes to make a 8 minutes replay.

Tomorrow before the race I'll share a Stunts version with the track and all Melange versions installed. You'll only have to select the track and the Melange version you chose.

Details: the ID of every melange version were changed but the new version will keep the "CDOR" id. You'll find the versions in correlative order in the showroom.

I think I'll race with the standard CDOR version then. I feel uncomfortable leaving replays around pointing to single-event cars 😅

Still purple though!

Thanks! It was surprising the quantity of magic carpets (even while building the track). That's why I decided to add the "Man of the Race" prize but only reveal it after the race to not make you think about it and let the jumps and magic carpets be free. ;D

Watching the video I already made a map of the spots where the jumps were made. Let me know if you find another magic carpet spot (where and when in the race).

The "Wind Tunnel" was the place where almost every lap had a magic carpet.

Guys, the Top speed of Melange is 219 mph (I thought it was 218 mph)  :o . Only 3 pipsqueaks reached it in this race and it was in the same place, a jump from the broken bridge to the hill road.

  • 9th lap: Cas

219.png

I've seen this effect before. What I suspect happens is this: when the car is at say 79*128 rpm it does it does its little calculation, figures the car should be two steps faster faster on the next frame and goes to 81*128 rpm. Here it does another calculation and figures it should not increase the speed to the next frame, so the car stops accelerating and maxes out at whatever speed 81*128*gear ratio gives it. But if you end up in a situation where you happen to land on 80*128 rpm instead of 79 the torque curve and air drag happen to be such that the calculation also comes out to "2 steps faster", bringing it up to 82*128 rpm and a higher speed, at which point the car will stop accelerating.

This is a thing that can happen both at flat track top speed and real top speed, but it's probably more likely to happen with real top speed, as speedups and such give big acceleration, making the car skip rpm levels and sometimes land higher than other times.

It gets a bit more messy when powergear is involved. The turbo Siluro sometimes says it did 245 mph on the evaluation screen, even though what really happened was the meter going up and back down really shortly without it visually looking like the car really got a burst of speed, so it probably just thinks it is in powergear for one frame or so?

Oooh that's a good explanation! We should place it in a wiki article. Some mechanics of the game are unknown and it would be cool to make them public.

Title: Re: Generations - (2024-03-17)
Post by: alanrotoi on April 09, 2024, 03:33:20 AM
Yes and no. This graphic was originaly about the differences between 2012's and 19th anniversary versions. For v1.0 I only changed the roof.

About the numbers of the digital speedometer they are just sepsrated images so I used a different font for every image, saved as png and replaced them. Just like ctg did from 2003 to 2012 versions.
2003 version has the corvette's font but in black because the background color. For 2012 version ctg changed them. For 19th Anniversary I changed everything including the font of the numbers.
