So do I. I discovered it last week and I watched 1 or 2 episodes per day since then. I watched 11th episode yesterday evening. I'm getting closer to the current episode (17th right now, 18th tonight) day after day. :)
I like very much Hiro and Niki/Jess personnalities. Obviously, Sylar and Peter are the key characters of the 1st season, the end of episode 11 confirmed my opinion about that.
I just discovered this morning that online comics of "Heroes" are available at official website ( http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/ ). I'm downloading pdf files right now. ;D

I started to re-watch Dallas series few weeks ago. It's funny to see 70's... Dallas was broadcasted in Hungary between 1991 and 1997 (1977-1991 in USA).

J.R kicks ass! ;D

Btw Victoria Principal (Pamela Ewing) was a pretty chick in 1977. ;D (What a shame she wasn't born 30 years later).

Lucky you, we have already catched up with the last episode. The very last one(no17 perhaps?) is a really amazing! You'll maybe change your mind about the key characters after watching this one :)

Btw the series called 4400 is pretty similar to Heroes and also quite good.

I was talking of the beginning : 1977 USA season started in 1981 or so in France. I don't know if lasts seasons of Dallas were ever broadcasted in France. If I remember it well Dallas was not broadcasted in France anymore in early 90's, so probably in France we stopped before the real end of Dallas.
Anyway, I never got interested by Dallas, Dynasty and so on. In the 80's (and it's still true now) I was much more interested by SF series like Star Trek or Twilight Zone.

Quote from: zaqrackthe series called 4400 is pretty similar to Heroes and also quite good
1st season of 4400 was really good. Since 2nd season it seems it's quite "diluated", less energy, more "off-times", the rythm is much slower than 1st season sadly. I'ts going to be like as "slow" as LOST if they continue to slow down the plot this way. Not that I don't like Lost, it's just that I think the plot is progressing too slow.
Originally, 4400 was supposed to stay only a 6-episodes "one-shot". But with its success, the end of 1st season was quickly changed and it became an on-going serie of 13 episodes per season. 2nd season was too "slow" IMO and I was thinking of stopping to watch it but 3rd season gave back my interest with the interesting character of Isabelle.

Lost sucks, I can't imagine any good things about Heroes and 4400 seems to be too bad for me.

Watch House MD! ;D

Post by: zaqrack on March 05, 2007, 01:42:07 PM
I guess it's time to open this topic after we flooded avatar fight :)

So my "watchlist" is (some only because of my gf :)):

24 -it's laughably stupid sometimes, Jack Bauer for president! :D
Prison Break - getting worse episode by episode, the next season won't be worth watching it
4400 - I agree with Krys on this one, could be better
Heroes - like it very much, intresting plot
Dexter - imho this is the best one, really exciting and well-written
Las Vegas - not bad, but not top of the line either
several anime - it varies, but I like emotional ones.
Szomsz?dok - Hungarian series from the late 80s about everyday problems -the first parts are hillarious ;)

Title: Re: Series
Post by: Krys TOFF on March 05, 2007, 04:36:44 PM
Series I watch at the moment :
- Heroes (don't watch it if you don't like comics at all, but a must-see if you like comic books),
- 4400 (see previous posts. I still watch it for Isabelle character that is almost as interesting as Niki/Jess character in Heroes),
- Lost (I start to get bored, plot evolution is too slow. Maybe it will change as now it's confirmed that the serie will have "only" 100 episodes, we'll see...),
- Desperate Housewives (I saw only 1st season with my wife and liked it, I still had not started to watch the 2nd and 3rd ones : I'll watch them in French with my wife when it will be broadcasted),
- David Nolande (French serie. Only 6 episodes made so far, others are beeing made. Really good. A little bit like Tru Calling or Early Edition for those who know, but way much better)
- Samantha Oups ! (French funny mini-stories with 3 guys playing to be women),
- Camera Caf? (French funny mini-stories about life at work in front of the coffee machine),
- Kaamelot (French funny mini-stories with Arthur, Merlin, Knights of the round table and so on, numerous funny anachronisms. You liked Monty Python's Holy Grail ? You'll like Kaamelot too).

Other series I like :
- The Prisonner ("I am not a number, I am a free man ! Muahahahahah". A must-have. Only 17 episodes sadly... Best one is the 16th and the marvelous mind duel between number 6 and number 2. Worse is the 17th with a weird finish, too bad it ended this way...),
- Star Trek Classic series (still one of my favorites, I have some episodes on tapes and DVD),
- Star Trek Next Generations (logical sequel to the Classic serie, but I prefer the classic. Other Star trek series are not as good as Classic and NG),
- Alfred Hitchcock presents (yes, I'm an old-timer who likes old series ;)),
- Monty Python's Flying Circus (incredibly stupid, so extremely needed),
- Fawlty Towers (same comment as Monty Python's Flying Circus),
- Twilight Zone (never saw the newest serie, I know only the original (60's, the best) and the 1st sequel (80's, not as good as the original one)),
- Black Sheep Squadron (Aaaaah, I wanted to be Robert Conrad when I was a young boy watching this serie. Strangely, I never liked him in The Wild Wild West...),
- Prison Break (1st season only, even if sometimes the facts are completely irrealistic. Once they managed to leave the prison (2nd season) the story tends to be a big nothing (like X-Files after a few seasons) so I stopped watching it),
- Cadfael (polar in middle-age, well done (as were the books by Ellis Peters). Too bad they made only a dozen of episodes...),
- Columbo (nice Peugeot 403 ! ;D Columbo is what Cadfael would have been if born in 20th century),
- The Persuaders (since I'm a young boy I like it, still dunno why exactly, but I do :D),
- Un gars, Une fille (French funny mini-stories, not broadcasted anymore),
- Friends (I never saw the last seasons, but the first 3 or 4 seasons were funny),
- Dead Zone (sometimes good, sometimes bad depending of the episodes. Main plot (based on the book by Stephen King) is way too much diluated IMO, we see it only in 4 or 5 episodes per season),
- Without a Trace (sometimes good, sometimes bad depending of the episodes),
- Medium (sometimes good, sometimes bad depending of the episodes),
- Numb3rs (sometimes good, sometimes bad depending of the episodes),
- Millennium (sometimes good, sometimes bad depending of the episodes (yes, I know, I repeat myself)),
- The X-Files (only the 3 or 4 first seasons. After that it is watchless).

My wife likes to watch numerous other TV series that I don't like too much (mainly French) so I go play at the computer or the X-Box when she watches them. ;)

Desperate Housewives: we watch it together with my girlfriend and the last episode I saw was 14th part from 3rd serie. I think they should close the story with this season, else it will become boring.

Friends: I saw all episodes of the 10 season, the end was boring - they had no real good ideas, rather repeating themselves.

Numb3rs: Solving everything with numbers? It reminds me on a saying: If you have a hammer, you will see nails everywhere.

The X-Files: it was interesting enough in my childrenhood. I re-watched a "scary" episode few months ago but it was just ridicoulus.

ER: the first few series were good but all the actors changed for now - it's not the same as it was for me.

House MD: arrogant and agressive rat, but incredible genius - character of Doctor House is just COOL! :)

Knight Rider: every little boy has a dream at least once in his life: to drive K.I.T.T., the supercar of Knight Rider. Stories are flat, Hasselhoff is crappy actor, but the talking and thinking black sportscar with Turbo Boost jump, Super Pursuit Mode speed and many-many buttons, devices made the whole thing interesting. I couldn't grow up from this: wanna have a Pontiac Firebird Transam!!! ;)

Personnally, I would say Sauron and The Balrog (Lord of the Rings), Annie Wilkes (Misery), Moriarty (Sherlock Holmes), T-1000 (Terminator 2), the sorceress in "Snow White" (remembrance of childhood, sorry :D), ...

The forum I used to get links (megaupload, rapidshare and so on) to download lost and heroes episodes had been closed by the hoster !!! :o
I watched Heroes ep.112 yesterday (excellent last sentence by Niki/Jessica : "who needs God when you've got me !". I really think this character is the best of the serie with Hiro) and managed to download ep.113 and 114 (and also Lost ep.310) just before the closure. Too bad, ep.118 of Heroes was just published and then : BAM ! Forum closed suddenly... >:(

Another info about Heroes : ep.119 will be broadcasted only the 23rd of April. That should let me the time to get and see all those I miss.

A new comic is also available at NBC website. I stopped reading them at number 12 so far, it seems others are about episodes I didn't saw yet, so I'll read them after seeing the episodes.

A woman fan of Heroes created "Incidental heroes", mini-movies of her talking about Heroes. She act as if she got a power : the power to see and speak to dead peoples, starting with Chandra Suresh.

Title: Re: Series

I don't like to use torrents :
1/ download speed is too slow 99% of the time, my computer is not turn on all the day
2/ p2p means that you download and also you spread. In France the amount of upload is under survey in order to check people that use torrents a lot. It's more punishable by law (in France at least) to spread than to download. I don't want to get owned this way. One of my neighbours got caught and had to pay around 3000 euros !!!! Download only using rapidshare/megaupload/file factory and so on is way faster in download speed and no risk to get caught due to big upload values. ;)

Links I had before the forum got erased were 4 files per episode (around 350 Mb per episode overall), all available from different providers (easyshare, megaupload and file factory). I downloaded an episode in a few minutes : part 1 from easyshare, part 2 from megaupload and part 3 from file factory at the same time ! The fastest finished (usually file factory) => I got the 4th part from this same provider.
So, in 20 minutes I had one full episode ready to unrar and be seen. ;D

I found new links but only rapidshare ones (it's there : http://rapidshare.com/users/2XBB1G). So I can download 1 part only at the same time instead of 3, and had to wait around 70 to 90 minutes between 2 downloads. So, having 1 episode is almost as long as with torrents. :-\ But there's no other choice for the moment. And episode 18 is not yet available here...

Yes, I do it sometimes but my IP address doesn't change at every re-start, dunno why. Maybe it's due to my web provider.

This is evil. we only get punished by the internet providers to prevent sharing a lot, by limiting upload speed a lot.
that's why ZakStunts is so slow sometimes, my download (your upload) is already 8Mbit, but my upload (your download) is only 0.5Mbit :-S

This is also the same : we have ADSL and not SDLS web connections (A=asymetric and S=symetric) for customers, SDLS is only for industries/business.
At home I have same as you : 8Mb download, 512kb upload. But it is planned by my web provider to improve the network this year, so I should have 16Mb download and 2Mb upload until the end of the year.
At my job, it's SDLS 4MB download and 4MB upload.

But back to the subjet. Series I'm watching right now:
- Lost
- Battlestar Galactica
- Scrubs

Series I used to watch (not in air anymore):
- Firefly (it got cancelled... damn it!)
- Titus (sitcom)
- The Drew Carey Show (sitcom)
- Whose line is it anyway? (funny improvisation show)
- 24 (ok, this one is still aired, but after the second season it became too "unrealistic")

That's all I remember right now.

I think it too, that's why I stopped after season 3.

Back to Heroes (damn, this serie is really getting better and better).
I watched number 15 yesterday, I think I'll have watched up to last one (18) this week-end. ;D

It's interesting to go search for heroes pictures, look this one :

Paul E. Sylar born in 1962. Which relation with the Sylar we know in the serie...?
And 1962 is also the creation of Primatech. Any relation ?

Also, comics reading are really needed. I liked the link between episode 14-comic 20 "road kill"-episode 15.

Well, I finished seeing Heroes up to episode 18. Damn, the finish will be promising. Still nice ambivalent characters (Niki, Nathan and Mr Bennet), what will do Linderman and what are his links with Hiro's father ? And what about Petrellis' mother ? She's much more than expected. Aarrrgh, waiting until 24th of April will be long.

Zak : did you had a subtitled version or do you want me to translate the French sentences between Mrs Petrelli and the Haitian at the end of episode 18 ?

Some funny links between Star Trek and Heroes :
- the blonde girl "hope" calls Hiro "Sulu". Funny to hear that when Hiro's father actor is George Takei, the actor who played Hikari Sulu in Start Trek. :D
- the car of Hiro's father (aka Mr Sulu) has a funny number plate : NCC-1701, that is USS Enterprise (Start Trek again) "number plate" :

Stan Lee (co-creator of X-Men, Fantastic Four, ...) had a small role in X-Men 3 (at the beginning, he was sprinkling his garden in a flashback when Magneto and Pr Xavier discover the young Jean Grey). He also had a small role in Heroes, playing a bus driver :

I watched the beginning some years ago and didn't like it much. So I stopped watching it after 2 or 3 episodes.

Heroes :
New comic available in official website (http://www.nbc.com/Heroes/novels/) : War Buddies part 1 of 6.
It seems Hana character is much more developped in the comics than in the TV show. 6 part story about her after the 4 part one (Wireless). One part per week. So this "War buddies" plot will end just before the episode 19 will be available. I hope to see more of her in the TV serie in last episodes of the season.

Back to Heroes for Zak and I (and other who may like this serie).

On the last comic (number 25), we see the past in 1968 with 2 main characters : Austin and Dallas.
I think that Austin is Linderman :
left : Austin in the comic book
right : Malcom MCDowell (Mr Linderman) when he was young (in Clockwork Orange movie)
They really look the same, don't they ?

So, maybe Dallas is daddy Petrelli. That would explain the link between Petrelli family and Linderman. Dallas has a letter about is son starting to walk, so this mean his son was born in 1967 or end of 1966. His boy is now 40 years old or so. That would be perfect to fit the theory as Nathan Petrelli looks like this age.

What do you think Zak ?

I forgot to say that last episode (number 20 : Five years later) of Heroes was a kick-ass good episode ! Tonight there will be the 21st, I think I'll be able to see it tomorrow. Damn, I can't wait.

As soon Heroes and Lost will have their summer break, I started to watch the first season of Dexter. Only 12 episode for this first season, but it seems quite good according to the first episode.
Title: Re: Series
Post by: Krys TOFF on May 18, 2007, 03:02:46 PM
Dexter is really good. Black humour, really uncanny compared to numerous American series. I like it. I watched 8 episodes so far.

Heroes is still so good, even if episode 21st was not as good as 20th and 22nd ones. Numerous deaths of characters in episode 22, damn ! :o But an appearance of Chris Claremont, the famous writer of the golden age of X-Men. Nice.

Next week : last episode of the season for Heroes and Lost. Lost is back to its best at the end of this 3rd season after a bad boring middle of 3rd season.

Infos for next year :
- Lost will have 3 more seasons but only 16 episodes per season instead of 22-24. Episodes will be displayed from January-February to April-May without break instead of September-May with 2 breaks.
- Heroes will have a mini-serie named "Heroes Origins" during its only break planned. A 6 episodes mini-serie. All episodes of it will focus on one new hero not seen during regular serie. Americans will be able to vote for which of the 6 new hero they prefer and the winner will appear in regular 3rd season of Heroes. Nice idea IMO. And the proof that Hereos will have a 3rd season as far as NBC knows. Good news.
- Dexter should have a second season, with still only 12 episodes of 52 minutes (while most American series are only 40-42 minutes long).

And I downloaded the old-fashionned Time Tunnel that I'm watching too.
And I'm also watching BattleStar Galactica (new one) seasons 1 and 2 that I never watched (I saw only the pilot of 2003 some years ago).
And I wait for Lost season 4 (the end of season 3 was very good) and Jericho season 2 too.

So, I'm not sure to have time for another serie right now. :D But I'll check for it.

Quantum Leap is the same spirit as good old Time Tunnel. ;)

V is a classic SF-alien invasion style. Not my favorite but correct.

Dexter is excellent you mean ! I love the atmosphere of this serie. ;D

Heroes 2 is starting as Heroes 1 : slowly. But I like the Hiro/Kensei duo, and Sylar is becoming a new kind of character, interesting.
I'm sure Kensei is still alive (why would he die with his power ?) in current timeline and he may be the one killing the "twelve". He may even be the one at the origin of the "twelve" reunion. If I had not seen the comic with Petrelli and Linderman during Vietnam war, I would have thought that Kensei is daddy Petrelli (due to Claire's power compared to Kensei's). Tonight : episode 5 is aired, I should have it tomorrow evening. ;)

I saw episode 1 yesterday evening. Funny, and with a very special "kitch" look and atmosphere. Some good moments of laugh. :D
I found on the web that it was planned as a mini-serie but due to success it is transformed into a full season (22 to 24 episodes).
Anyway, I don't think the main plot and idea will allow a long life to the serie, 1 season ok, 2 maybe, but more would risk to be redondant with always the same ambiguous relation between Ned and Chuck... ::)

And I wait for Damages (season 2), Heroes (season 3), Dexter (season 3), Californication (season 2), Pushing daisies (season 2) for september/october 2009.
