CTG: PhD entrance exam BEFORE state exam and saving your thesis? It's a bit strange... what happens if somebody fails to get masters degree AFTER a successful PhD entrance exam?
My timetable:
May 31: deadline of application for PhD studies (I have to write an essay about my planned studies for this day...)
Jun 6-7: saving my thesis (probably 7 Jun, because my name is at the end of the alphabet)
Jun 20-21: state exam (probably 21 Jun, because the same reason)
Unknown date, around Jun 30: PhD entrance exam

9th of June: Religion = ?

Zak, brauchst Du noch Hilfe oder Unterst?tzung f?r Dein Deutschexamen? :-)
Nein, danke, ich hoffe das ich kann es einfach und schnell schaffen :)
Very good, but you have to put the verb on the end of the sentence :)
"Nein, danke, ich hoffe dass ich es einfach und schnell schaffen KANN."
ja genau, ich HOFFE ich passe :)

Denmark has an official religion ?
There's no religion lessons in France. France has no official religion since Revolution (1789).

You need "6" ...and you can only get: 00, 03, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11 and 13...(don't ask why) :)
But that strange system is about to be removed in favour of an even more stupid one, now you can only get: -3, 0, 2, 4, 7, 10 and 12
It's the most stupid grade-scale I have ever seen.

And in these religion learning, did they told that Muslim prophet should not be represented, especially with a bomb.

Yes, Denmark has followed the example of great countries like Iran, Pakistan, USA, Syria etc. and chosen not to separate religion from state. We also have monarchy.... Long live the past.

In ten hours, I will be a student! 8-[ \:D/ :smt026

What became your selected study?
Only the state exam is left with saving my thesis too.
PhD entrance exam: I got 85 points (max. 100) for my university performance + unknown points (0-10) for the interview, but possibly 0. Last years entrance limit: 84 pts, it will be a bit higher this year. I mustn't take care about this because XYZ (imagine the name of a very big multinational company) will pay my studies instead of the state. But it would be great to reach the higher level, just to prove I'm not that bad. (We postponed some publications because I don't need them as extra points - it would mean at least 10 pts).

State exam: Jun 21, 2:45 pm - I still have 8 themes (of 20) to learn...
Oh shit! I had an HPLC (High Performance Liquid Chromatography) exam today - without me. I wrote it in my calendar but I forgot about it totally. When I turned the calendar to this week in the morning (8 pm), I recognized it. 600 pages, exam at 10 pm. Hopeless. I gave it up.
:-\
Oh damn it! I haven't slept for 29 hours and I still have 3 left before the exam. I'm at the workplace, I can't sleep. And I mustn't say I'm TIRED, SLEEPY and I'm close to heart attack caused by tons of coffein.

I took a successful state exam today (environmental studies/ecologist), all my marks today were five, but because of the poor szigorlat average, I will have a diploma with a good (4) mark.
congratulations, well done!
I have a 4,50 szigorlat average and very good thesis 5 from the inner and the outer consultant too, so I hope for the best :)
our state exam consists of: hotel management, restaurant management, human management and marketing, but we only get one mark on it, as all themes are combined from each subject.

my thesis got a maximal 40/40 points and will be nominated for the national award "best thesis on tourism in 2007"

As my szigorlat average is 4.50, I'll be one of the few (as I know, 3 people from 120) who will get a diplom with the grade jeles(5)

9/5 "routine exam" (called "vehicle handling exam" in Hungary, it's about completing some exercises on the learning drivers' course)

I have to admit that I bought 10 extra classes instead of failing... (I never drove a car before my first class, and I didn't manage to ask my father and my uncle to visit some abandoned roads to learn to drive, so the basic 9 classes were too few for me...)
F U C K off!!! I got only a 4, so the overall mark of my main subject became a 4 too (NMR - 5, chemical and biosensors - 4, IR spectroscopy - 4; last semester: classic analytical methods - 5, atomic spectroscopy - 4, GC and LC techniques - 5). I got very hard questions compared to former exams and the teacher hates me as well. Too bad, but after a single hour of learning it's fair enough... (although the average marks in PhD school have no important role, just the prestige)
Right now I'm studying for a Quantum Chemistry I test - particles-in-boxes, harmonic oscillators and all that jazz. Only problem is the professor has just moved the exam from tomorrow afternoon to tomorrow morning as one of the pupils had an unavoidable time schedule conflict (we are only four in the class), but to a time which another of the guys won't be able to come as well... and so we currently have no clue on when the test will be actually held at this moment :D

You mean the "not real Chemistry" thing? yes, I've been there before :) But on the other hand we work alongside and interoperate with several Raman spectroscopists, so the situation is not completely distant from what you mention (even if the perspective is mostly physico-chemical rather than analytical).
Thanks guys! You make me so happy that I will never have to do chemistry ever again in my life. And the same with physics, mathematics and biology. I'm free!
But then again... I'm also in a state of exams, writing two papers at the same time. Liberation is on June 10. Until then: discipline, early to bed, early out of bed, hard work. Good lucky Duplode! You'll knock them over.

Let me second that taking physics and mathematics out of the quote and putting history and geology in instead. :)
That's just because your history teacher had a crush on your ex-girlfriend :D
But that's history now...
and your memory is still awesomely excellent :)
anyway it is really true. I hated history in school, but ever since I graduated I really enjoy reading some texts about history, especially about the development of Budapest.
I would say Biology, History, Art history (Why on Earth did I had to pass that!!!). Oh, Cathecism as well...
All subjects are, on their own, wonderfully interesting. The problems only begin when you are obliged to study them... ;D

10 February: defense of my PhD thesis, against two very provocative reviews from the opponents. (One of them have had a very unfriendly relationship with my supervisor for ages, that seems to be the main reason.) So it will be a hard debate. If anybody is interested in it, he/she is welcomed: http://www.doktori.hu/index.php?menuid=193&vid=8954
:)
By the way, it seems that I should have simply translated two books, and hand it in as PhD thesis: it has just turned out that the current president of Hungary did the same in 1992. Incredibly, he still doesn't seem to understand what's the problem with having ca. 200 pages in his dissertation which can be found word by word elsewhere. Even more incredibly, there are no government and university leaders who would declare that he has cheated. They rather say that "it is a political attack against him", or in the best case, "it should be investigated later by a committee". (And the professors in Hungary are afraid of being a member in such a committee...)

Please, use the internet as much as you can for protesting, until they close it down. You don't live in a democratic country anymore, you live in country similar to Russia and Ukraine.
And good luck with the defense! I'm sure you'll do great. Sadly I can't be there :-)
President question: he cheated and it turned out. In a democratic country it would be a clear case: the president should automatically leave his position because of his moral mistake (and apologize for it). In Hungary? Usrin summarized it well. They focus only on the "political attack" and they forget about the real sin. Fidesz (and in general: the Hungarian political "elite") is hungry for power - since they have the 2/3 in the Parliament, they try to demonstrate their domination with despotic methods.
About Dr. Usrin: STRÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉBER!!! :D (as long as I have no PhD degree, you are simply an eager-beaver)
And cheers for the afterparty - I hope that you will have a nice bottle (or more bottles) of chilled Kelt.
Interesting - you're also a "stræber" in Denmark.
I'm not stréber.

Böff be with you on 10th, doctor... 8)
In German: Streber! 8)

Neither am I.
1: Maybe I'll fail. (Contrary to the normal process, my opponents haven't given a mark so far, they want to decide about it after the defence.)
2: If I won't fail, I am a child of luck. (I don't plan any extra preparation for the defence, I won't tell much more than I they can read in the dissertation.)

Btw, thanks for the böffs, cheers, and so on! :)
Good luck! I am sure you will succeed. Unfortunately I will be back to China by Feb 10 so cannot attend - but wouldnt understand much anyway :)
Neither the opponents (who were near!) understood everything. ;D Therefore it was a hard and long (>3 hours) debate, but finally I managed to defend the thesis with 'cum laude' (good) degree. The results of the defence and the final exam (which I took 2 years ago) have been averaged for calculating the final mark, and they are barely but enough for 'summa cum laude'.
Note: strébers get 'summa cum laude' for both the defence and the exam. :P
Congratulations! I'm very happy to hear that.
Great! Congrats! :-)
Congrats! :)

Don't try to explain it. You are STRÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉÉBER!!! :P
(Drink a lot! :D)
Congratulations, Usrin! I hope you can celebrate it with much beer and many böffs. ;D
Thanks to everybody! Btw: CTG, I would bet that you'll get summa cum laude for your thesis and your defense, and we all know what that will mean. ;D
We had numerous bottles of wine for the celebration, so I rather missed beer. Less BÖFFs, but very good time!
Maybe I would have had to make a Google search on 'beer after wine' earlier... I have never heard 'beer after wine, and you'll feel fine' before. In Hungarian, it torments you. :o
Well... now I should make up for the missed BÖFFs.
BÖÖÖÖÖÖÖFFFFFF!!!
It seems I won't ever finish PhD. Deadline is June - no time and energy for completing the rest of my exercises. Especially not during the job hunter game...
Come on, you can do it! After you get the ph.D., no one can take it away from you.

Unless I steal the 98% of it from other people. Like our president.
Funny, but my former tutor is still bothering me from time to time to finish PhD. I don't know what the hell does he think, but I left the university 5 years ago.
Technically I would have the possibility to re-start the whole procedure after my 2 years long prohibition (which started exactly 2 years ago ::)), but still: I should publish a new article (maybe even a long series of experiments would be necessary, at the university), complete the "szigorlat" again (cause the one I passed in 2011 is not valid in a new procedure), write the thesis, defend it - while I have to work and complete other kind of postgradual studies. Painful memory or not, it wouldn't be worth to kill more energy in it after so many years... :-\
