I was wondering about reaction times today.
The first question that comes to mind is whether there is a high correlation between a good reaction times and doing well in stunts. Here we have to distinguish between rh and norh of course.
Then Akoss is doing well at some arcade flash games. The question is if he just has a good reaction time or whether strategy is an important factor.
Here's a simple reaction time test: http://humanbenchmark.com/tests/reactiontime/index.php
It would be nice if many of you would try to take the test and post your result here. And please don't cheat. I did not open this thread to generate some ego-trips ;D
If I get any meaningfull conclusions I will post them here!
Thanks in advance!
Hmm, let's give it a try...
Dispersion of my results is on the range 192ms - 225ms.
As site stats tell the mode class is centered at 200ms I'm, quite boringly, sitting just on the average. :P
I gave it a test and this is what I got:
As Duplode said, I'm on average (a bit slower than him) but I think maybe reaction times changes depending on how tired you are, time of the day, and other things. I'll give it another try tomorrow morning to see if rest or daylight changes something.
As I couldn't put the picture there, I'll attach it.
I have tested it some years before, and my reaction time was way below average. lets test it now again...
and it still is:
I did 320.0000 from 10 tries averaged
Thanks for your help. Hopefully more will take the test.
Zaqracks result is astonishing me! First of all it has been proven that there is a positive correlation between intelligence and reaction times. Considering that, for a person with your IQ, you are REALLY slow :). Don't want to imagine your reaction time if you had average intelligene!
It's also interesting to see how Zak is a rather good live pipsqueak with such a bad reaction time...
For me: around 145 ms yesterday evening and around 155 ms this morning. But this morning someone talked to me both times I tried the test :D. Maybe that, or that I am always tired in the morning, explains the difference...
Just redone the test being alone infront of the computer: 141.6000
After 3 tries:
73. akosspoo
Today
194.4000 5
54. akosspoo
Today
188.2000 5
I think 10 tries are a better foundation. With 5 tries "accident results" have a big influence on the overall average...
there is a good tactic to cheat... :D (yes, I'm the cheatmaster)
I'll register and try again.
Yes, you just try to guess when color is changing and that way you'll get a very low score.
I think that easy method to cheat is known to everyone here Chulk.
I would kindly ask anyone here not to try cheating. This is not a competition.
So CTG, what was your score without cheating?
If I made the test, if someone clicks two times to early the result should not count. Anyways, I hope we have enough honest people here :)
I tried few minutes. This is my best serial (10 tries):
average after 5 tries: 196.8
average after 10 tries: 201.2
absolute best (without try to guess the right moment): 153
Anyway I think that the mechanism of the mouse (spring opposition and above all the excursion of the button before to give the contact) can affect, even if only a bit, the results.
My touchpad is quite slow... But as far as I see my results aren't that bad. :D
Maybe I am blind, but what are your results CTG?
@ Mark: Yes I think that a good mouse has it's influence. I bought a new mouse about 1 week ago and my impression is that it is very fast. I did not try the test with an old crap mouse. Maybe then the reaction time would be significiantly slower...
BTW: I saw Paleke scored 202...
Personal impressions:
Focus and concentration matters a lot.
If I am at least a bit concentrated I should be below 170ms. Normal is between 145-155ms. Anything below 145 is a combination of high concentration and luck with luck getting stronger the lower the score. I did not try to click in advance...
I red that a good eyesight has a high correlation with reaction times. Maybe that explains Zak's results?
I would expect a very low score from BJ if he has a working hand to do the test...
You can't see, I'm not registered. :D
That's why I asked to post the results here like everyone else did ::)
Site doesn't save results with too low reaction times (for example my personal record: 1 ms, guess how :D).
Without tricks: try to find out my nick... ;D
Shitty, shitty, shitty reaction time...
10 tries : best is 169 ms, worst is 233, average of all 10 is 198.
Not so bad from such a veteran. ;D :P
I did a try with 10 clicks:
60. akosspoo
Today
191.1000 10
But I'm going for a new 5 click record, because that's what counts on the page.
46. akosspoo
Today
186.4000 5
59. akosspoo
Today
190.3333 12
Stats for Chilichilichilibeansinpina:
1 146
2 161
3 177
4 181
5 146
mouse counts.
I tried today with a different one, and got 279.6 from 5 tries
The game depends on very much things. Especially on the mouse. I'm not very satisfied with that.
This skill is improvable. My record now is 179,4 ms (5 tries).
If you put your eyes closer to the monitor, you will get better reaction times.
Push the mouse button a bit for all the time to reduce the movement time of your finger.
It is very annoying when
- the green light comes too early, and you are not preparred to it
- you just prepare to wink your eyes, and the green suddenly appears.
To reduce the effect of these, I think there should be 6 tries to make a high score, and the best 5 would count.
I think I'm good at noticing the green light, my brain gets it very fast. But then my finger just doesn't want to start the movement. I ALWAYS feel that oh damn, too long reaction time, I had seen that damned green for ages before... Maybe there's a small dependence on body height and arm length: for me, the information needs to cover a bigger distance to give the command to my finger: touch the mouse button.
Another interesting remark: there are small periods (I think it can be around 50-60 ms) when you are preparred more to the green, and small periods when you are less preparred for the green. These two are fluctuating quite fast.
If I concentrate on the red very much, I get lower reaction times. If I just gaze at the monitor's red part (from close, as I mentioned earlier), I'll get the green faster - I think.
My reaction times range from 160 ms and 230 ms generally, but I click closer to 160 ms more frequently than to 230 ms.
Well, from now on, I won't make a new post if I make a new record.
There (in this post) will I always refresh if i make a new record.
RECORD FOR 1 CLICK:
152 ms
RECORD FOR (AT LEAST) 5 CLICKS:
172,8 ms
RECORD FOR (AT LEAST) 10 CLICKS:
176,2 ms (for some reason, the system didn't save it)
I did this with 30 clicks 223.3667.
I lose concentration as click number grows, I was under 200 before click 13, and then I got only 4 more clicks under 200ms from there until the end.
Does anyone else have the same problem?

Everyone's brain is lightning fast. It only takes a couple of milliseconds I guess (no scientific data though), to notice something. The slow process is:
form the command to move your finger - send the command through the nerves - receive it in the finger - act
but it must be something genetical for me, as my brother also gets ~300ms reaction times. I also know that my vegetative nerve system is weak and unstable. (Test: scratch a line on your belly with the back of a knife. The shorter the scratch line remains red, the better your vns is. Mine stays red for more than a minute :)) This also might affect my result.

BTW: I saw Paleke scored 202...
Yep, sorry I didn't post it, but it was late last night, I was tired and I thought I could make it better during daytime... If you are wondering, the answer no :P
99. Paleke Today 201.0000 10 (1st try)
121. Paleke Today 208.6000 10 (2nd try)
139. Paleke Today 215.3000 10 (3rd try)
Damn it! I getting slower. ???
And from yesterday:
103. Paleke Yesterday 202.6000 5
130. Paleke Yesterday 213.1176 17
133. Paleke Yesterday 213.2000 5
174. Paleke Yesterday 230.4000 5
I'll try again tonight, right now the room is being used and I think the noise is distracting me.
For me results are very clearly connected to alertness. Yesterday I had done 208.6ms around 9:30PM; one hour and a half later it rose to about 225ms, and now (8:30 PM) the new "record" is 197.7ms
New update:
94. Paleke Today 197.6000 10
100. Paleke Today 199.7000 10
103. Paleke Today 201.0000 10
It's late now, I'm going to bed.
I tested it again today and average result of 10 tries is still around 200 ms.
I did as Chulk and made a serie of 30 tries and that's true : as time passes I'm getting slower (around 250 ms instead of 200 ms).
Also, I noticed that my reaction is worse when delay until read is longer. When "wait for green" delay is short (less than 5 seconds) I'm under 200 ms, when it lasts more I'm slower (always above 200 ms). It seems I can't concentrate long waiting for something (which is true, I'm not very patient).
Oh my god ! I was really fast on this one !!! :o
edit : with the help of this very good result, I had an average of 162.4 with 5 tries. ;D
I didn't register so my score isn't kept in scoreboard, but I saw Argy did 139.4 average yesterday for 5 tries, impressive.
OK, I registered this time (too bad I didn't do it before previous attempt), and did 190.4 with 5 tries. Not too bad.
Well-done Mr T?ff, I'm going to beat it soon. :D
My new best average of 5 is 188, I had another serie of 5 at 154 ms (with one very lucky attempt at 45 ms :o ) but it was not recorded in scoreboard... ??? :-\
I know the reason... :D
Bonzai Joe took the test, about 200ms and 220ms in average. Or did someone else took the test under his name? ::)
Impression about reaction time ranking in average. (top results from 500 tries does not count - just what I think is a user's average)
1)Argammon
2)CTG
3)Akoss
4)Krys
5)Mark,Duplode,Chulk,Bj.. all around the same level depening on more or less luck IMO

In order to come back to the initial question. I don't have an impression that there is a significant correlation between driver's quality and reaction times. Especially if BJ's result is for real. That's a surprising result and I wonder how to explain it?
probably because in Stunts obstacles and corners are not coming that fast. You know they are coming and you can prepare. There are some "keystroke-combinations" you have to press if you want to be the fastest in a loop/corner/etc. I guess hte most important is not the reaction time on a certain sign, but the time you require between two keypresses.

I also tested myself with 30 clicks. I also lost concentration while I was heading for the end, but not to the extent you mentioned. In the end, my average was 187,1 (to compare with my records: 1 click 152, 5 clicks 172,8, 10 clicks 176,2 - not saved by system, dunno why).
BTW I beat all of my records today. I knew that this will happen, I'm feeling very concentrated today (I also performed very well on the learning drivers' course (rutinp?lya)).

I'm agree with Zak. Even if a man could be very fast to press a key of a piano when he sees a red square becoming green, it's not automatic he knows to play a fast melody with 5 fingers...
A good reaction time it's sure useful in Stunts, above all to correct the path in a large curve, especially in a NORH race. But it's not the main quality for a Stunts driver. Coordination is more important, I think. Always after the passion and the taste of the challenge, sure...
I had another nice try yesterday:
1)137
2)135
3)135
4)134
5)142
Average: 136,6
What I like about the series is that they are all close together and not like 100,180,160,180,100...
New records (I played relatively much yesterday):
1 click 143.0
5 clicks (practised a lot) 166.2
10 clicks 175.8
5 click record consisted of the following result:
1 170
2 168
3 161
4 164
5 168
I did 127 in 5 tries few days ago. Around 128 in 10 tries...
I think the reaction time is the result which each of us got in his few first tries. After some training it's more of a reflex than a reaction time. Or maybe a combination...
Another test made today after watching this topic :
180.6 in 5 tries : 188, 196, 166, 182, 171 (I'm not as regular in reaction times than Akoss or Argammon obviously)
Very nice for someone around your age ;D...

Litlle padawan, I hope next time you'll show more respect for the elders of this community.
Anyway, I just tried for the fun to do the test with my left hand (I'm right-handed). Shitty result of 234 for 10 tries (results from 190 to 300 !!!). I didn't log in to publish such an shitty score.
Come on, try with your 2nd hand to see if your reaction times are slower compared to your 1st one.
I tried with my left hand and got results between 125ms and 139ms as 5try averages.
So it looks like my left hand might even be a tad faster than my right hand! Did not log in though!
Btw, it is sad such a test attracts many cheaters. Look at "Sadistik" for example. All results between 99ms and 101ms. He is clearly a cheater. Probably used some script.
Not sure if the guy below him cheated. I think it is possible for like 1 out of 100.000 people. So who knows? The chance is high he cheated though :)
Well that's the internet.
Script? Okay. :D
Ok "Gunzlinger" cheated also.
He had several results above 200ms on the same day he scored 118ms in average.
Cheat method: A way more primitive method than the other guy. I think it is better not to publish it ;)
Can just shake our heads about some people...
I did 194 with my left hand in my very first try. Also looks like left hand is faster than right hand, but maybe I'm more focused than other times... Let's see.
Around 187 with my right hand, definitely I am more focused today. Although regarding my first try with my right hand was over 200, left hand should be faster with some training.
Apparantly there was a big cleanup on the side and many cheaters are gone. At least some justice 8).
Another kind of reaction test : http://members.iinet.net.au/~pontipak/redsquare.html
Movements are always the same, so it's easy to progress and improve. Then, movement speed increase and it becomes hard.
Goal of 18 seconds is not so hard to reach though, I did more than 20 seconds at my job right now, after a few minutes playing only.
21.594 playing about 15 times... Game is quite entertaining!
Well, apparently I'm completely cr*p on this game, but I'll post if I get some decent result...
Can you beat my fastest time: 0.015? :)
(highest: 21.406)
Yes. ;D
The fastest crash game reminds me on 'Sörcsúsztatás' game (formerly available at receptura.hu) where Akoss and me made a prestige fight. It was slightly harder as you had to click on small area, keep the button while moving and let it up when you arrived to the finish area. My record was 0.02 seconds there... Touchpad is an advantage here.

Result : 0 second. ;D
Okay that will be hard to beat...

21.547 new record
21.734!!!
23.172 :D
23.453 my mother disturbed me in the background during playing
23.718
23.875
24.812 okay finished for today :D
Akoss and I talked about a very chanceful future message of this topic (we agree in that). No details before it comes true. ;D
