Title: JACStunts Championship
Post by: Duplode on March 23, 2008, 03:38:13 AM
Earlier this week a couple exchanges in Portuguese between me and Dark Chaser in ZakStunts news intrigued some of you... basically, he was inviting me to the Campeonato Brasileiro JAC de Stunts, a most interesting contest started early this year but already in its second season (!). In case anyone is curious, relevant debates - in Portuguese - and updates are done at this Orkut community (http://www.orkut.com/Community.aspx?cmm=48945546), while there's a largely secondary webpage at http://regismuller.googlepages.com/stunts .

The rules are very sui generis: the current season is composed by 18 (!) weekly races, using a relatively diverse pool of cars. Races are BOTH ISA and NoRH - NoRH is trust-based, and before CTG argues something: the obnoxious "RH wars" nearly started this week, but the final decision was to keep current state of affairs for the best. Number of competitors vary form 8 to 12, with currently the main victory aspirants being pipsqueak-manager Thiago Marques (winner of the inaugural mini-season) and Alexandre Ramos AKA Dark Chaser.

As for the current race, we're in Round 3, which deadline is tomorrow midnight plus a 12-hour tolerance. The track is a damned long (~2:30 !!) Indy powergear blastout I'm not having much luck with (screenshot attached below). Next week track seems to be an unusual proposition - a Countach handling challenge... Those two and all other tracks are already available for your inspection and scrutinity at http://regismuller.googlepages.com/pistas ...

Edit, 03-08-2008: Although the Orkut community remains the same, the old website is no more. Head to http://jacstunts.ueuo.com instead (or just follow the Portal link). Also, the thread title was modified...

may I ask Darkie or you to write me he needed infos, so I can put the competition on the Stunts Portal?

thx

That will be very nice!  :) I mentioned the portal banner on the Orkut Forum and the folks over there seem to have liked the idea. Now it's just sort out the details...

No "mundo" section?  :)

Unfortunately, not quite - Orkut communities have no subforums, plus two thirds of Orkut user base come from Brazil, so it's not really that international of a service anyway... But nevertheless I'm sure you'd be a warmly welcomed visitor there  :).

Hey, we have to collect all the tracks, winning replays, infos (cars and rules of each tracks as they change from track to track) and best times for the Stunts archive !

Sadly, like previous Brazilian championships managed by Ricardo Pirate a few years ago, foreign pipsqueaks are not allowed to race it seems. :(
Title: Re: Brazilian Stunts Championship
Post by: BonzaiJoe on March 25, 2008, 01:28:22 PM
Definitely collect them for the archive, but I don't think we can count a closed competition in the general stats. But great thing anyway :) Very innovative competition rules.

By the way, the championship is indeed pretty hard - the long NoRH tracks mean a completely different paradigm, and the overall pipsqueak level is really high! To give you a reference, Dark Chaser won that #3 track with a 2:23:xx time...  :o. As for the archive, I'll definitely try and store the old files.

In the end it was good I didn't hurry with preparing the banner for the portal... Last week a stunning eruption of internal strife took away both the manager and the leading pipsqueak of the championship. The remaining pipsqueaks decided to collect the debris and start over, and thus we're now holding the preparations for the third season (in four months!!) of the JAC Brazilian Championship. On the plus side, the rejuvenated spirit means there's a very cool site at http://jacstunts.ueuo.com (in Portuguese). You might find particularly interesting the sections "Pistas" (the as of now unclosed track list) and "Competidores" (pipsqueak profiles - unfortunately I still haven't a decent photo to place there... ;)).

PS.: Returning to the banner - Zak, would it be OK to send a bilingual text (English/Portuguese) with it? Both versions combined take ~4 forum post lines...

Well, I put the issue under discussion shortly after your post, and it turned out the championship never was really restricted, only that the folks over there never really considered internationalization... So it's very likely you all will be able to join  :) It seems the only big issue we have to decide is about championship scoreboard - it is consensus we need a "Brazilian Trophy", but it's still up to discussion whether it will be complemented by a "Foreigner Trophy" (a la 4DSL) or a "Global Trophy" (my personal preference). I'll keep you informed.

Hold your breath Krys - we don't even know which track will be the first one!  :D The random choice of track order will be held at some point of Sunday late night - if all goes to plan, Track 1 will start immediately and its deadline will be midnight of the following Sunday (GMT -3), plus an additional 12-hour tolerance.

And BTW, Zak: banner data was mailed to zakstunts-gmail... ;)

Oops... sorry, I think that's a bit unlikely as the managing crew is very motivated (as you may notice by the site built in record time) and probably want to resume the championship ASAP. But I mentioned you and your issue on the Orkut forum just in case... ;)

Well, if race is sunday to sunday, I'll be able to join even if it starts today. But I'll have only 2 days for 1st race (21 and 22 April) and then only 3 days for 2nd track (2nd, 3rd and 4th of May). Quite short, but I can do it if needed.

Post by: Duplode on April 21, 2008, 06:54:21 AM
Third season is officially open! Here goes basic info for Krys and other interested parties, so that you can start at once:

1. Track pack is available for download at http://jacstunts.ueuo.com/pistas.html . Just click the blue link near the very bottom of the page, after the screenshots. (actually, one of the 14 tracks is missing from that package right now, namely the Lancia one)

2. The track order, just published on the Orkut forum, is:

DIEGO46.TRK - Jaguar XJR9 IMSA
ATALANTA.TRK - Ferrari GTO
RADASH5.TRK - Porsche March Indy
RONALDO2.TRK - Porsche March Indy
ALE18.TRK - Lamborghini Countach
PHOENIX2.TRK - Porsche Carrera 4
RUDAH.TRK - Lancia Delta HF
TICINO.TRK - Audi Quattro Sport
ERI4.TRK - Porsche 962 IMSA
RONALDO1.TRK - Lamborghini LM-002
DIEGO47.TRK - Porsche 962 IMSA
PHOENIX3.TRK - Lamborghini LM-002
ERI3.TRK - Porsche 962 IMSA
DIEGO45.TRK - Porsche Carrera 4

3. That means this week track is...

Track: DIEGO46.TRK
Car: Jaguar XJR9 IMSA
Author: Diego (diegocereal)

Start: 0:00 / midnight (GMT -3) 21/04/2008
Deadline (regular): 12:00 / noon (GMT -3) 28/04/2008
Deadline (late, *with penalty*): 0:00 / midnight (GMT -3) 29/04/2008

BTW: Krys, you had some luck with this drawing - this week track won't be so hard on your limited racing time budget (unless you're impatient like me and mess all the time the slow section a the beginning... :D). My judgement is a bit impaired to give a secure opinion on the following GTO track, though, since I designed it... :)

4. Rules are essentially what I forwarded before: NoRH w/o video and a variation of ISA rules (two wheels on/over, no elements may be skipped except corks u/d if you can fly over them and exploiting collision bugs to go through solid objects is forbidden as well).

5. After you finish your lap, send both the .RPL and the .HIG files to Igor, the manager, via:  igornsdm.at.gmail.com .

6. A more detailed FAQ in English with the rules fully translated is being prepared and will be on the site anytime soon.

7. Any doubts, just ask... either on this thread, or directly to Igor by e-mail, or in the "Campeonato JACStunts Brasil" Orkut community (our only forum for the moment, you'll need an Orkut - Google's social networking service - account to use it, and don't hesitate to post in English if you decide to see us there  ;))

OK, as I probably won't have too much time I started to race just now during lunch break at my job (no sound, so I raced auto-gears because I can't switch gears properly without sound).

When will we see a scoreboard update ? Only at the end of the week (so it's a blind race) or every evening ?
Title: Re: Brazilian Stunts Championship
Post by: Duplode on April 21, 2008, 09:23:38 PM
Well, in the past season the race was blind except for rather frequent driver comments (and taunts  :D) on their performances. Part of the reason probably were time disponibility problems by the former manager, so that (as other things) is still not settled.

Edit: Actually, the main reason for the absence of partials is more prosaic. Even when they comment about their times on the forum, most drivers don't worry much about sending partial replays early to the manager...

Home-made (with manual gears and sound) replay improvement done and sent.
I was lucky that car was Jaguar, it's a very suitable car for noRH racing, and this track is not very difficult, it's just that I suck in sharp corners as usual. :D

If you compare tracks from this season with the former ones, you will be able to confirm it was consensus that we should control track difficulty somewhat this time - there were some really scary tracks for the unfinished season. Although in general it seems we tend to like sharp corners... ;D

I created an Orkut profile and wanted to join the JacStunts orkut community but I need to be accepted by a moderator.
I just wanted to be sure that my replays have been well received and talk a few in the community forum. ;)

Title: JACStunts Season 3 race 2...
Post by: Duplode on April 29, 2008, 01:59:31 AM
The first race was quite fine - balanced competition and pretty narrow gaps at the podium battle. Results will be posted on the main site anytime soon, alongside with the rest of the update. In the meantime, Track 2, Atalanta, is already on... it's been a while since we last had a true GTO race, so you might want to give it a try  :) Just head over to the site, read the FAQ (http://jacstunts.ueuo.com/faq.html) carefully and get going  ;)

Why is JacStunts site "freezing"...?
Round 9 is finished 10 days ago and still no results... And Round 10 is not started... There's always a similar delay about the update and the start of the next race?

Admin is quite busy (he even stopped racing). So all updates are managed throught the Orkut forum.
To reach it, you need a gmail mailbox and register in Orkut. then go to http://www.orkut.com/Community.aspx?cmm=48945546 ;)

Current active race is :

Krys pretty much summarized the situation. Not only the manager, but a number of other pipsqueaks have been skipping races lately due to busyness - there's even some talk already of doing an USL-like move for next season (bi-weekly races) to counter it. Despite that, those last non-updated races were pretty damn tight...

And nice to know you're following it too Mark... do show up around eventually! ;)

If I have to be sincer, I sent a replay (igornsdm.at.gmail.com) for Round 9 two days before the deadline (that is 2 days before 30/6/2008)...  ::)   Attached here you can find the replay... (and I have a video too...)
It's a pity, I wanted to try to succeed to stay in 1st division (arriving 1st or 2nd in all last rounds), but by now...   :(

Oh, that's too bad! :-[ The killer blow in your issue was that 30/6 was not the deadline for round 9, but for Round 10 instead (this Monday we finished Round 11, so Round 10 ran until 30/6 and Round 9 ended a week before...). Also, Igor (the manager) was extremely busy on the Round 10 week, so we hardly saw him at the Orkut forum until Tuesday night (and we only saw the results by Wednesday, some 48 hour late). That might explain why your mail went by unnoticed... Anyway, as JACStunts' unofficial "ambassador", I'll quote your post at the Orkut forum so as to bring the issue to public awareness - and of course, I reiterate the invitation for you to join it so, among other things, you can follow the developments.

And finally, on relegation, my personal opinion is that having a "static" relegation system implemented in a championship so early in its history can be deleterious for creating too small divisions, and driving away new pipsqueaks who could otherwise challenge for the top... Specially with the dwindling number of pipsqueaks on the last few rounds (although many are supposed to return), I feel (in a completely unofficial position) the relegation issue is not 100% set, and your issue motivates me to push the argument (for dynamic relegation or no relegation) further. (and with it goes my hope you'd reconsider joining for the last few rounds...)

Title: JACStunts Championship is in pre-season...
Post by: Duplode on August 04, 2008, 04:55:19 AM
I cheerfully announce JACStunts Season 3, after fourteen pretty good races, sucessfully finished a week ago as originally planned... :) The website is not fully updated as of now, but at least you can see the final standings and replays from the first eight tracks by visiting http://jacstunts.ueuo.com/classif.html (In case anybody wishes to see the remaining replays I can provide public links). As of now, we're into a pre-season break, on which rules will be debated and tracks will be designed. One thing is sure: the contest will remain a "classic style" ISA/NoRH competition, using all cars. The major proposed change, however, is the introduction of divisions, promotion and relegation; however its viability depends on the number of regular active pipsqueaks (the more, the merrier! ;)), and also the mechanisms are still under discussion, so it might not turn out to be a static-divisions championship, but maybe rather alike a Dual League (!) system.

Anyway, racing is expected to resume by August 18th. Up to then, all of you are invited to manifest your intent of taking part of Season 4, joining the Orkut community (links provided in the opening topic, and posts in English are welcome... :)) or even creating tracks for the new season (any car is acceptable, and long tracks are not frowned upon). Hope to see you around there... ;)
Title: More news on JACStunts
Post by: Duplode on August 31, 2008, 09:27:37 PM
First of all, I have to let you know the contest is still alive and well, even if the launch date for the new season keeps getting delayed... :) As of now, however, there's reasonable intent to finally get it rolling from September 8, as the number of ready tracks and confirmed pipsqueaks is reaching acceptable levels (speaking of pipsqueaks, not only Krys but Mark as well sent his application... :)). Moreover, two very significant rule changes are defined:
That could make it easier for a lot of people to take part in it... so, feel free to announce your interest to take part of the contest  ;) When the track list gets ready, I'll make a season-opening post with all the basic info.

Title: JACStunts Season 4!
Post by: Duplode on September 20, 2008, 03:17:53 AM
Well, after many false starts JACStunts season 4 is finally about to get underway. Although the site update is still to be done/finished, track and rule sets are virtually complete, thus there are conditions to start the racing from Monday, September 22nd on. The changes mentioned on my last post (single division for the season and bi-weekly races) are indeed in effect; and the season will be "only" eight races long (so the championship duration remains more or less constant). More details to follow later, when the track order gets defined (randomly) at some point during the weekend... and again, all are invited for a shot there! ;)

Me too... :-\ Other than the site update, pretty much everything is ready to go - all we need is Diego to finish the update (or at least confirm his intention to do it soon) and Igor to say the final word on track order and declare the contest officially open. Rudah and me are getting quite anxious already - this process of shared management decisions sometimes gets jammed up quite badly. Anyway, I think there's no reason not to start from next week, but still... ::)

As announced in private to Krys and Mark a few hours ago, JACStunts Season 4 is now officialy open officially started  8). On this post, I'll summarize basic info:

1. Season calendar

Número de pistas (number of tracks): 8
Duração estimada do campeonato (Estimated duration of the championship): Aproximadamente 4 meses (Approximately 4 months)

Ordem das pistas (tracks' order):
Pistas de primavera (Spring Tracks):
Pista 1: #5 - Sunrise (29/09 - 13/10) - Jaguar
Pista 2: #8 - Audi (13/10 - 27/10) - Audi
Pista 3: #6 - Rudah4 (27/10 - 10/11) - GTO
Pista 4: #2 - Curvilinea (10/11 - 24/11) - Lancia
Pista 5: #3 - Cobra Doida (24/11 - 08/12) - Indy

Pista 7: #7 - E4 (22/12 - 05/01) - Carrera
Pista 8: #4 - Road America (05/01 - 19/01) - P962

Just take into account races start at midnight Sunday to Monday and end at Monday noon (so consecutive races have a 12-hour overlap).

2. Track pack

The site is not fully updated yet, so the new tracks aren't there yet. Get all eight tracks from this link instead: http://www.4shared.com/file/64989824/32e50d41/Pistas_Stunts_-_Temporada_4.html
Notice, however, that Track 3 (the very long GTO one) will suffer modifications and be re-uploaded as soon as possible.

3. Rules

An overhauled ruleset in English is available at http://jacstunts.ueuo.com/faq.html . This time the Portuguese ruleset was translated directly from the English original, so there are (almost) no risks for misunderstandings.

4. Site and Forums

The site is still on http://jacstunts.ueuo.com, but it is not fully updated yet - I'll tell you when it gets finished. The Orkut community is still active on http://www.orkut.com.br/Main#Community.aspx?cmm=48945546 , but now we also have a much better and more convenient bilingual forum being set up at http://jacstunts.gooforum.com/index.htm . Visit us there, it's much easier now  ;)

5. Updates

Results will be posted at both forums and on the site too. Additionally, I plan to publish them here too, to make this topic a bit busier  :)

That's it, any further developments will be reported here. Everyone is invited, show up and race! ;)

PS.: Zak, could you please change the Portal data to report races are bi-weekly now? Thanks in advance.

Actually this time the issue was raised a long time ago, before the start of the season (the original track was 4+ minutes of almost pure cornering), and the change was already decided - only the track pack file was not changed...

Title: JACStunts Round 4 Results
Post by: Duplode on December 02, 2008, 02:18:36 PM
Hello again! Igor was only able to watch the replays on Sunday, and I've only seen his post at Orkut today... Anyway, here are the results of yet another tight race with yet another Mark victory:

1º Mark L. Rivers - 2:10.85 - +10
2º Felipe NEMESIS - 2:11.30 - +8
3º Daniel DUPLODE - 2:11.90 - +6
4º Rudah FLASH DRIVER - 2:16.65 - +5*
5º Krys TOFF - 2:22.15 - +4

Classificação Parcial:
1º Mark L. Rivers - 40
2º Felipe NEMESIS - 32
3º Daniel DUPLODE - 26
4º Rudah FLASH DRIVER - 14
5º Krys TOFF - 13
6º Marcelo THYASROCK - 8

Due to the long delay, Igor (thankfully) opted to move all deadlines a week forward, so you have almost two weeks to have a shot at Round 5 - the Indy one! See you  ;)

Welcome to our world  :) For this season, T405 must be the longest track, but last season we had two 3:00+ tracks, not to mention some real "nightmare" tracks of Season 2 which were skipped after the contest was interrupted...

There are no active scoreboards, but when pipsqueaks are motivated enough they usually hint at their times and comment the track on the forum, so that would be your best bet  ;)

For info, my best time was 2'28"xx. Again, I don't know how Igor will consider my replays. It seems to me that I lost speed when going slightly outside the road so I think he will accept the replays but yet, we'll see the result until the end of the day.

I made some trials, half of them without sound. My best has been 2.24,xx but putting my wheels on the grass exiting form the loop around 1.20, unique error of that race...  :(  My major mistake is that I always tried to push hard, without trying to realize a quite good lap...  ::)

Title: JACStunts - Round 5 results
Post by: Duplode on December 24, 2008, 06:30:40 PM
Arguably the most confused scoreboard in a long while finally can be published in its final version...

1º Mark L. Rivers - 2:24.05 - +10
2º Krys TOFF - 2:28.85 - +8
3º Felipe NEMESIS - 2:30.90 - +6
4º Daniel DUPLODE - 2:22.95 - +5

Shortly after the original result publishing (and of my excited comments here and on the JACStunts forum), Mark sent his 2:24 as per Igor's request on JAC's forum (not due to any IRCness issues, but rather on a 48-hour tolerance triggered due to .RPL / .HIG mismatch). Igor watched it yesterday, and the lap was declared valid on the same basis as Krys' one. Sorry Krys... :-\ And naturally, had CTG sent his late replay he would be 4th and me 5th, but oh well.

Next round is already on, of course - T406/Andhra is a Vette track penned by this pipsqueak speaking to you. Igor re-set the deadline to 07/01 noon, a Wednesday - it could be a calendar error (07/01/08 was a Monday...) but on the other hand two extra days in this holiday period might be useful - I have not asked him... anyway, keep racing, and let's see if Mark will pull off a perfect season or not  ;)
Title: Re: JACStunts Championship

Sorry Krys, I really didn't want to snatch you the win...  :-\  After Igor's comments on Jac's Forum, I sent my replay thinking that maybe I would have been a better time on the scoreboard, maybe with a high penalty that would have, in my mind, commuted my 2.24,xx in a 2.34,xx or similar... Sorry again, and congratulations for your very fast lap. I know you are a very strong NORH driver and I hope to see you at your best shape next year...  :)

Igor replied today at Orkut; round 6 results are expected soon. My lap was not quite a listfiller, but I did only a single run and was unable to push hard on the key section...
Title: JACStunts Round 6 Results (It's not dead!!)
Post by: Duplode on January 23, 2009, 12:15:53 AM
If you thought scoreboards couldn't get more messed up than on T405, though, you're mistaken: there was not even a single legal replay submission this time!

1º Daniel DUPLODE - 1:51.15 - +10
(2º Rudah FLASH DRIVER - 1:58.90 - +8)
3º Krys TOFF - 2:06.35 - +6
4º Mark L. Rivers - 2:31.05 - +5

I had forgotten to send my .HIG with the lap (just regularized it); all other times were late submissions (at least it didn't influence the results...). Rudah's time is bracketed because his .HIG somehow vanished just after the lap (he sent a .TRK file out of reflex and didn't notice it originally...) - Igor still has to confirm the decision about his result. And not only my victory was unexpected, Felipe's absence (possibly due to holidays) also means I, quite undeservedly IMO, snatched the overall 2nd place from him... ::) Gap is only three points though, so there may be a nice battle over the two final races...!

Round 7 is, of course, already on - Carrera is the machine for this race. Deadline was set to February 9th, so we can return to bi-weekly scheduling. Igor also posted on Orkut apologizing for the scheduling issues of late - he's having some personal issues that may see him returning from the U.S (he's currently based there) to Brazil over the following weeks. If that happens, results publishing for Round 7 will likely be delayed. He will warn us in case that happens.

edit : Oh, right, deadline was in the middle of the week for 6th track, not a monday as usual. I thought I sent my replays many days in advance but no, it was a few hours after the deadline. :-\

Quote from: DuplodeRudah's time is bracketed because his .HIG somehow vanished just after the lap (he sent a .TRK file out of reflex and didn't notice it originally...) - Igor still has to confirm the decision about his result.

Title: JACStunts - Round 7 Results
Post by: Duplode on February 18, 2009, 03:40:52 AM
Without further ado, here are they:

1º Mark L. Rivers - 1:49.75 - +10
2º Daniel DUPLODE - 1:50.25 - +8
3º Rudah FLASH DRIVER - 1:55.35 - +6
4º Krys TOFF - 1:58.60 - +5

..and thus Mark, with this final lap, can bow away with the title. Congratulations to him! Standings are:

1º Mark L. Rivers - 65
2º Daniel DUPLODE - 49
3º Felipe NEMESIS - 38
4º Krys TOFF - 32
5º Rudah FLASH DRIVER - 28
6º Marcelo THYASROCK - 8

Unfortunately Felipe missed rounds 6 and 7 due to a combination of hand injuries and computer troubles, and it's unsure whether he will be back for Round 8 in order to defend his podium place.

Speaking of the final round, it was started on this Monday and the deadline is set to March 2nd, GMT -3 noon. Of particular interest is that the race will be on a Toff track, specifically, a slightly adjusted version of "Road America" from IMSA Cup lore (naturally, the car will be P962). Thus, if you're feeling nostalgic, there's yet another reason to take part on this round... 8)

Title: Final JACStunts Results
Post by: Duplode on March 14, 2009, 01:13:59 AM
Round 8 and Season 4 of JACStunts were finished a while ago already, but since Krys was away I didn't hurry to post results. Here it goes:

1º Daniel DUPLODE - 1:53.20 - +10
2º Felipe NEMESIS - 1:59.00 - +8
3º Krys TOFF - 2:01.65 - +6
--- Rudah FLASH DRIVER - (1:51.50, disqualified) - +0

Rudah's replay relied on a grass cut to land from a cork u/d jump, and thus the lap was deemed illegal.

Final standings...

1º Mark L. Rivers - 65
2º Daniel DUPLODE - 59
3º Felipe NEMESIS - 46
4º Krys TOFF - 38
5º Rudah FLASH DRIVER - 28
6º Marcelo THYASROCK - 8

And that's it - congratulations again to Mark and many thanks to Mark, Krys and CTG for taking part! About the future of the competition: it's unclear at the moment. In face of his persisting schedule troubles, Igor opted to step down from management and nobody has replaced him for now (I would like to, but I'm unable take over contest management right now...). Some of the JAC core members (Igor, Rudah and a few others that contributed through Seasons 3 and 4) will likely keep in touch with each other in the near future (JAC - or better, its current incarnation, JACII - is an independent retro-gaming community in Orkut). I made sure to invite the guys to come down here; so far Felipe (http://forum.stunts.hu/index.php?action=profile;u=260) has registered...
