skid off Stanislao Cannizzaro!!! ;D Do you agree, Mr. Poo?
Exercise for the experts (Duplode, Akoss Poo, maybe Backgammon too): you find a pocket full of white powder. What would you do to identify the material? What if it contains 5-6 ingredients?
Lots would depend on the available equipment, but in any case I suppose some simple solubility tests would be a sane way to start. That might turn out to be an easy way to eliminate a lot of possibilities, or at least for having a partial idea of the complexity of the mixture. Furthermore, it would be an unavoidable preliminary step before, for instance, going down the chromatography route.

I can't read out 1, 2 and 5, but the task is quite easy. ;D
Edit: 1) should have multiple solution; others: some of them in pure form is unavailable in Tesco
