Are you ready for this challenge? Bernie and Skid are... so you!

You can use the car you want. I tested it with IMSA cars but any fast car could make it.
Just downloaded the track! I'll try :)
Yeah! Please submit the replay! :)
Is this the start of a Stunts Academy? :)
Made it!!!! :-D
It was quite some work. The hardest part is the braking... by far!
You made it! Certified :) Yes, the more difficult part is not the speed or the jump angle but to break correctly to not crash against a wall after landing on the corckscrew. The challenge can be made with the car you want. I used Melange to show easy the speed and also because I only tried with IMSA cars, but sure DTM, Indy, F1 and other fast cars can do it.
You have to break in order to not crash?!
Spelling speedster, away! 8)
My replay is attached. :) I used the Porsche 962 IMSA.
Perfect! You did it too! How long did it take?
It took about half an hour.
Sorry for necropost, but finally I did the #rotoichallenge! Car used was Lola Cosworth Indy.
Hehe not seen this, but had a fun 30 mins with the Magic Mazda!! ;D
Mini challenges are fun. Any more in the archives??
Cool! Thank you for playing this challenge! The idea of these challenges (rotoi challenge and the leap of faith) is to make great stunts and to lose respect or fear to it. Everybody can make great tricks and this way the focus is only on the stunt, out of a race or a competition track.
I could prepair more challenges. There are more nice tricks like this all around the history of competitions.
Indeed! I think this kind of challenge is good because it teaches us what we're able to do and helps us improves. One big difficulty I have is with not losing too much speed at corners. Because it's a boring problem, I've never seen much discussion about it, for example.

That would be wonderful!
I tried with Ryoma's 905 Airwolf. It was so fast I made the jump work after just 5 minutes ;D
A great challenge, I did it using the Jaguar
Great find
@alecu ! I never would found this old thread myself, but it was really cool to try!
Here's my contribution using the Lola Cosworth Indy. Maybe I'll try it with some of the other fast cars later.
And
@alanrotoi , I'm definitely for the idea of having more of these fun little challenges.
Nice! Thank you! I watched it! I'm glad everybody is doing the challenge :)
Here goes my Melange run, plus a Penske one to add another car.
@HerrNove @MiDiaN , last year we rediscovered the "Rotoi Challenge". Maybe it's fun for you guys to complete the challenge as a right of passage into the ZakStunts community ;) !
Your call can't come in a better time. I was gathering the replays to make a video of them! Thank you! I'll wait if somebody else wants to join the video 8)
I hereby accept the challenge! What I don't understand is how much replay handling is allowed. Seems not hard to do if one uses RH intensly (though I might totally be wrong on that)
With the risk of putting you on the wrong track. I think the meaning of the challenge was to train your skill in this particulair trick. So as far as I remember you should try it without RH.
You can use all the RH you want. If you can do it in one shot much better but it's not the main goal.
So, here my two replays with the P962. One is the most borderline success one will ever have, the second is much cleaner. Heavy replay handling used, since this challenge is way above my paygrade in noRH mode.
I would have liked to do it with the Oxia but it's too difficult: the low grip forces me to brake too much on the elevated corner, and I cannot recover enough speed for the jump. I also failed with the Mercedes DTM: it almost succeeded but despite many attempts I could not complete the landing.
Haha congratulations! You did it twice! Both replays are ok. The first one is quiet fun. The car got stucked into the wall but still works 8)
Now the #rotoichallenge with Ghost Car! It's harder than you think ;D It's too damn powerful!
Since the tradition is to make the challenge also with a new car, here my success with the awesome Hexa!

Where is the car?
https://forum.stunts.hu/index.php?topic=4311.0
Found it. Anyway, I only managed the move with my game (using rocket) and not with Stunts, but the car always jumps from the road after landing, so no use. Which is what should happen, btw.
Another observation - cars in Stunts have air brakes.

Do car models include parameters for those?

I'd say it's not literally an air brake, because the actual speed of the car (as opposed to the speed shown on the dashboard, which is coupled to the RPM) doesn't change while it's on air. What does happen is that your choices of gear and RPM mid-flight affect how fast you will be after you land. That's an important effect, specially in the 1991 versions, though there's no specific parameter controlling it.

QuotePickell said there were many glitches in the physics engine of the game, such as being able to brake when in mid-air
This is not a glitch. In my game you can brake or accelerate while in mid-air (besides the rocket), which I mentioned in README.txt (simcar-6.1.2 (https://matei.one/idxscr.html)).
QuoteAccelerating while the car is in the air pushes the front of the car up and the rear down (i.e. if the wheels are pushed in one direction, the car is pushed in the other direction). This is the only way in which the car can be controlled during jumps and is necessary for obtaining a good position at landing.
Update: I succeeded once (with car 4). I will try to post the video after editing it.
I don't think we (and Wikipedia, etc.) actually disagree on that: you can hit the brakes on air, and it does have an effect. (It's just that the car slows down only when you touch the ground, rather than immediately while you are mid-air.)
By the way, it turns out the Wikipedia article on Stunts was significantly expanded a few months ago. Thanks for drawing my attention to it!

Nice -- do post it!

Indeed, I remember it being difficult with the DTM cars -- I didn't manage it last time around. Later I will give it a try with RH.
