No, but you can join telegram. You can hide your phone number after verification so it is very private.
You could use a different messenger, maybe one that doesn't require phone numbers?

It's just a verification code. You can use a fake number for it. Like Receive sms (https://receive-smss.com/)
But I'm open to switching if we can reach an consensus.

I would like to find one that is a good choice for everyone. Telegram is not it.
Signal and Kik messenger have similar issues.
So at the moment element sounds good.

I think I should not be the one deciding which app to use. I suggest asking the existing members of the group if they are willing to switch to an alternative, for example element. :-)
I checked out element. it has a cool feature of creating a space with several groups.
So I have made a space there as well.

It seems like you need to add an identity server before people can find you. Go to settings and add vector.im
