Title: And finally...
Post by: Matei on May 27, 2024, 09:12:57 AM
Hi there again. I'm getting closer to the next version of SimCar, which, as I wrote before, will have the capability to use tracks from Stunts, besides my tracks. The cars will not move like in Stunts, they will move properly. Replays are already better than in Stunts and than in previous versions of my game, because now the rotations are also interpolated, so everything looks perfect, even from inside the car, or in slow motion. I still have some work to do, especially on the 3D models (mine, not those from Stunts), so I estimate that I should have a release in a few weeks.

The main idea is that the possibilities are now limitless. Ghost cars, new track elements, no restrictions on how the tracks can be constructed and everything is facilitated by the fact that all the data is in text files. The program for converting tracks from Stunts is now written 100% in C, so I also got rid of FreeBasic.

One very important thing to mention is that if we replace all the 3D models from Stunts, we can have a 100% free game which can use the >1000 tracks already made for Stunts. If you want to stay fixated on a game made 34 years ago, which no one says you can't continue to play, btw, that's your business. However:

"'There's Earth right beneath your feet! The ground is an extension of Who. You. Are!'
—–
Firebenders imprison Earthbenders... on top of dirt. And it works. Everyone in this movie is a stallin idiot."

That was actually a good movie, because that's exactly what happens in real life. I could use some help and 3D models aren't very hard to make. Here are some good 3D model editors:

Sounds good, if the driving simulation is descend I will certainly give it a spin occasionally. Waiting on a new computer so I can play driver San Francisco again.
And more gtaV....
Nothing can replace STUNTS. It is just something we fell in love with. That's just how it is.
But I personally like how it inspires you to make something you love.
Your passion for your work is similar to ours for stunts.

As long as we respect each other and take some consideration for one other everyone can be welcome and share his own passion and ideas.

So no help and I have to do everything myself as usual. You could appreciate that I'm more interested in your work (i.e. those >1000 tracks) than in Stunts. The simulation is decent, there's even a video with it on my site and in this case it works almost as well as with Open Dynamics Engine. I already mentioned how you have to drive the car:

https://forum.stunts.hu/index.php?topic=4243.msg92810#msg92810

For instance, to make a jump, you have to drive slowly until ~halfway up the bridge and then start the rocket, because you can obviously not enter the bridge at high speed when the car is simulated properly. The loops had no chance of working whatsoever, so I had to replace them, as can be seen in the screenshots I posted earlier. Also, if the 3D models are not free I can't put them at sourceforge.net, so I can only put the version with tracks from Stunts on my site. I can put the program for converting tracks at sourceforge.net, but without the 3D models it's 100% useless.

QuoteSo no help and I have to do everything myself as usual.
That was a quick conclusion..
I would like to but i can't do much on a cheap Chromebook. I have my own project on hold for about 2 years I think.
Many off us are limited in their time for projects.
Your negativity doesn't help in this.

I didn't necessarily mean you, but "a cheap Chromebook" is a lot more than you need, if you can install an operating system on it. I never had and would obviously never buy one, so I don't know if that is possible, but I think I might have read somewhere that it is. The buildings and trees are easy to replace, because anything that looks like a building or a tree will do and electric cars don't need gas stations anyway, so the only problem is with the models on which you have to drive.

I don't know if you noticed, but I just posted a program for viewing tracks. I guess you're probably not interested, because why would anyone here be interested in a program for viewing tracks from Stunts?

I didn't add this to the message above because it requires JavaScript and now I'm using NetSurf.

The Chromebook will stay as it is, my kids use it for school.
My windows computer is broken but I will by a new one or repair it.
Thanks for the track viewer. It's on my wishlist for a while. I can finally sort through my 4000+ tracks.

You gave the Chromebook to your kids? That is child abuse. Maybe not as bad as if you had given them a computer with Window$, but...

First comment:

QuoteMy 10 years old son uses Fedora without knowing what it is. He simply didn't see any other system and have zero problem with that. He can do whatever he wants and of course attends school lessons too.

Second hand computers are really cheap in Romania. I don't know about Gaia Alpha.

Quite the opposite.
School works with Chromebooks. And phones have android. So a low learning curve for the os, more focus on education.

I am turning an old windows computer into chrome OS flex with Linux apps.

From there they can transfer easily to Linux.

Pestering Microsoft is my thing. (Never paid a penny for whatever Microsoft product I needed)

https://www.fsf.org/blogs/rms/20140407-geneva-tedx-talk-free-software-free-society

From the video, 10:08:

QuoteAnother obstacle is that lots of schools teach nonfree software, which is basically like teaching the kids to smoke tobacco. It's implanting dependence, which is the opposite of what school should do.

Android is not GNU/Linux and is not free.

https://matei.one/idxscr.html#story (you have to scroll down a little):

QuoteEven if you obtain a proprietary program from a legitimate source (see picture above) and don't pay anything, by using it you give free advertising to an organisation that works against you.

And I have some personal experience with this, because I used to teach at a university and:

https://matei.one/osthesis.html#thesis

QuotePage 101 shows the results of an analysis made with a proprietary program, which I didn't want to include, because I don't want to advertise any commercial product and I find the use of nonfree software in education unacceptable, but I was pressured.

We know how you see it, some share your opinion or something similar. You don't have to remind me of it whenever I say something that's not according to your beliefs.

I'm aware of it but have a different way of dealing. I accept that it is at an expense of some privacy. It's a balance between control and ease. That's my choice,
I rather learn to live amongst predators than lock myself in a cave with a limited connection to the world.

About "opinions":

http://matei.info.ro/ctp.html

The text in the image says:

Quote-This is a cat.
-No, it's a turtle.
-It's a cat!
-Your opinion.
-...

No matter how well someone shows or proves something to you and even if you can see perfectly that it's true, you can always throw an "your opinion" and you've won. Why admit something that you don't want to admit? Just because it's true? Nonsense. That's what my site in Romanian is primarily about, especially this page:

 http://matei.info.ro/rel.html

"World of illusions"

QuoteAs words can change the whole reality,
we firmly trust the web of delusions.

Yes, and the advantage of the aforementioned approach, as your last message shows, is that you actually don't even need to hear or read what the other person has to say. Why bother? Your answer is always the same anyway.

I've read your entire blog. I've listened to what you said. I even understand what you mean and share some of your concern..
It's not about the message..

I know the picture, but it was with "Your religion is", not with "Your views are". Anyway, if you look above, "my views" are links to web pages and quotes from other people, and that's also what can be found on my sites, with all the references. Anyway, you say you understand but you don't care:

Stop constantly forcing your opinions.
We heard it, you made your point. Let us decide what we do with it.
This is a game forum. Feel free to share your game, your tools.
We like that. But save the other stuff for someone who cares...
I don't, at least not from you and not here.
If anyone here is interested in it. They will find you. There is more than enough from you around here already.
So please..
Stop..

I was writing about software and computers until you changed the subject and concerning "the other stuff", my access here was recently restricted for writing something in a place where it said "Just write what you want". Right.

About "They will find you":

https://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Diogenes_of_Sinope

QuoteHe lit a lamp in broad daylight and said, as he went about, "I am looking for a human."

Very hard to find these humans and coincidentally, the text of the song I quoted earlier says:

QuoteStop this madness cause we don't need a war.
Stop this madness, the earth is full to the brim.
Stop, otherwise I'll go crazy -
the world is going nowhere.

I'll kindly disagree with you on that. Although I do want to remark that.

I merely stated that at the moment I'm limited because I only have access to a Chromebook, my kids need that for school because that's what they work with. Can't blame them for it, have to live with it.

But you choose to respond with accusing me of child abuse for allowing that.
I believe that just before that I asked not te be negative, but anyway.
I had the decency to reply kindly with some beneficial factors.

You decide to insult me again and start your fanatics.

I politely decline, you start forcing it on me..
The only thing I learnt from this is that we will never agree. And I'm an idiot for trying to reason with you.

I apologise for wasting your time.
I'm glad to hear you have a kid, I hope you have a loving family who feel like you and give you the respect you deserve.

You are distorting reality, because my reference to your child abuse was a joke. I do have a chapter referring to that on my site though:

http://matei.info.ro/rel.html#abuzuri

However, Dr. Stallman said that teaching kids to use nonfree software is like teaching them to smoke tobacco. He's a doctor, he should know about these things:

3D, don't bother trying anymore. He can't even think for himself, all he has is quotes from his blog.

Quote from: Matei on May 29, 2024, 08:37:49 PMHe's a doctor, he should know about these things
I have an uncle who has a physics PhD, so he's a doctor. Why would that make his opinion any beter than, say, my mother who raised 4 happy children? He is a doctor in a non-education non-paediatric non-medicine related field.

Please don't bother replying with links to your blogs or quotes, because I sure won't bother reading them.

Now, I'll just go back to more important topics on my windows PC I didn't pay for, so it's still free software for me anyway.

Bill Gates (https://economictimes.indiatimes.com/between-the-lines-in-support-of-piracy/articleshow/8067307.cms):

QuoteAlthough 3 million computers get sold each year in China, people don't pay for our software. Someday they will, though, and as long as they are going to steal it, we want them to steal ours. They'll get sort of addicted, and then we'll somehow figure out how to collect sometime in the next decade.
