Title: maintenance problems
Post by: zaqrack on September 04, 2004, 10:26:29 PM
Hi

I fell down some stairs with my bike, my chin has riven, several bruises all over my body, left arm broken (fixed for 4 weeks), an the middle finger on my right hand has broken too.
Its quite hard to use the computer this way, so updates will be a bit rare, and the next track might also be late for a while

sorry guys, i will be more careful next time, i was fortunate, it could have been much worse

I'm really sorry to hear about that - I hope you get well quickly! Lise wishes you well too. Never mind the updates - just tell us the results if you can.

But now at least you have a good excuse to make other people do everything for you :)

thank you all, i got a lot better from your posts :)
feeling quite ok, the bad thing is that i have to wear gypsum for 2 weeks, its heavy, im sweating under, its hot, hate it. at least i can draw nice things on it :)  then hopefully i can have plastic fixation for the remaining two weeks.

At least no operation for you, that's good. And the first two weeks will be over soon and now you can already look forward for the unbeatable feeling of getting off from the gypsum (I guess the right word for what you mean is cast, a bandage made of gypsum). And now, having a useless left arm, for the next four weeks you can exercise your automatic racing skills... :) So I wish you good recovery and not too hot days.

By the way. Has there been any update for long long months except for track closures?

The other thing: I always admired Zaki's egoism. Why don't you ask Bonzai Joe (or satanziege) to build next track? It seems it's much more important that let track builder be you than keeping the schedule... Awful...

In a super professional competition, isn't there a backup track which can be used in situations like this? AkossStunts HAS backup track, although it's a small competition.

Akoss, I am not against you! Having a different idea in mind doesn't mean, people are discriminating you. So don't try to put yourself in a position of a martyr! I also am desperately waiting for Zak's new track. But anyway I know about hosting a contest and I would be mad if I had to create a track with one hand only. So don't expect 100% from Zak by now, come on.

Maybe try to see it like this: Suddenly you have more time!  :) There is no track you have to race by now! Go out, watch the birds in the trees, take a zip of Palinka and tell nature you're there with a big B?FF. Later, when you are smooth and cool and relaxed there will be a new track and then all your restored power will lead you to best performance ever!

Why ? Just use game built-in track editor instead of Nailwood's track blaster : one hand is sufficient to use a mouse.

2nd, why didn't you made a track (and you know how to make good tracks, well at least, let's say you know hoiw to make tracks I like :D ) and sent it to Zak by mail as a proposal to help him while he is injured ? I don't know if he would have accepted it, but it would be a more "constructive" attitude than insulting him. :P

Well, as far as I know:

If you can comprehend the word "never", you can also comprehend the word "forever". If something happens forever, it means it never stops happening. About Zak's situation, of course death will make it stop happening for sure. So practically, for humans, "forever" means until you die. But I just don't know how it can be so easy to predict the rest of one's life...
But if "forever" is defined as "some time in the future, not certain when", then it is much more realistic I must say. Actually, anything else would be very unrealistic.
Title: maintenance problems
Post by: JTK on September 13, 2004, 12:36:40 PM
Hi BonzaiJoe, great that you're back in the forum  :D

I think your definition of forever is too "narrow". There are many things that exist far beyond from forever following your theory, for example Stonehenge existed before you were born and will (hopefully) still exist when you are dead. So what about this? If never is before you are born and forever means the time until your death Stonehenge exists completely out of time then.  :)

I am not convinced yet but there are some points indicating that never and forever could be synonyms: Never means at no time at all. Difficult to imagine out of our human world, what that could be. Never could be the same as nothing then, because are entities able to exist without time? Entities can exist without space for sure (spirit and thoughts for example) but they need time to be sensed by us. Forever means at all time, which is the whole opposite of no time. But watching all time means to watch everything at one glancewhich is as absurd as trying to watch endlessness. It is very difficult for me to explain that in English words, but can you see, how near nothing, everything and endlessness are? The are so near that they could be synonyms in the end.

But that would be useless for us, what shall we use different words for what we cannot understand at all? So it maybe better to think of the aims we have in mind using the word forever . In Zak's case it could mean "from now on and as far as I can imagine" (which comes close to your definition again, Jacky). I think, when we use the word forever, we always have the wish in mind, something (which could also be a situation or a feeling etc.) could last from now on until the end of time as far as we can imagine. This means, one wants to keep the moment. But everyone, even the wishinmg person, knows, this cannot be done.

So forever is not a situation or a ontological entity but an imagination an verbalisation of a human wish, a prescription of an inner state of mind (heart, soul...) which can be used to show the importance and weight  of a situation to someone.

:?    :?

Post by: BonzaiJoe on September 13, 2004, 12:53:47 PM
Yes, but not when used literally. I don't think forever counts the past too. If I never die, I will say I live forever, even though there was a time before I was born. My life is still infinite, because I never die. In Zak's case, literal use of the word forever is of course absurd (which is why I mentioned that forever in his case must mean until he dies). So I assumed that Zak meant "as far as possible". Which is until he or she dies. But my point was (completely non-metaphysically and down-to-earth): isn't it a bit hard to claim that you will be with someone forever, when you've only known that person for some weeks, and your life is probably going to last about 60 years more?
Title: maintenance problems
Post by: JTK on September 13, 2004, 03:29:53 PM
You're right. But that is what I meant: Zak uses forever to show how intensively he feels at the moment and how much he wants this moment to last. Me and my beloved wife, we chose another solution: We said, that we want to be together until we're 65 years old, then we'll check if the time gone by was o.k. Then we want to stay together until one of us dies.   That will prevent us from being totally disappointed, when the end of one's life comes and there is no forever at all.

By the way:
Quote from: "BonzaiJoe"
My life is still infinite, because I never die.
Of course you don't. You're only a weather god, but anyway you are a god, and those mostly do not die!

dreams DO come true...

we had an idea with my love 2 weeks ago to build a tandem bike until springtime, so we can ride together.
I started looking around for prices, and found out that from 1000EUR we could build a fairly good bike. Hell, thats a lot but we have time to gather it - i thought.
and then I found a guy who is the author of the biggest Hungarian bike magazine, and who is sending his tandem He is a very kind guy.
that was 1 week ago
the bike is now in our room, and we also had our first short ride.
(yes, my arm is still fixed, but now i sit in the back, so i dont have to use it. later when it'll be ok again we'll change places of course. its not worse thsn travelling on a bus, doesnt hurt at all)
and the best thing... it was only 500EUR. Well, still a lot, but remember we bought it together. and I did some calculations, this bike setup (only very good hi-quality brand parts + some real rarities, custom made parts, etc), if we would have bought all the parts new would have cost 1800EUR.
Something we could never afford in our life.
so, if two people have a dream, and they dream it togethr it comes true, I'm really sure now. We already have our next dream but it's a secret :)

its only 16kg, so I can carry it alone up too, but we usually carry it together.
and yes it fits into my room, quite some place stays. :)

There was a critical mass happening yesterday (when bikers gather to demonstrate for the people in cars that they should use bikes), approx 4000 bikers gathered, shouting, whistling, holding the bikes over their head, it was an awesome feeling. :)

I meant:

You went to protest because you think car drivers should use bikes instead. The only sensible reason for this, is that cars pollute, and bikes don't. But I guess the reason why you mainly ride your bike is that you like it, and not that you don't want to pollute?
