Title: Need For Speed
Post by: Mingva on November 02, 2004, 06:02:30 PM
Yesterday downloaded demo version of the newest NFS Underground 2 game. It's amazing,  I spent all day by racing  8) Also I purchased 3 games (NFS Hot Pursuit 2 included) from ebay.com :)

Title: NFSU
Post by: Krys TOFF on November 02, 2004, 09:30:33 PM
I have the 1st NFS underground, and it don't play it for months.
1st it was funny, but after a while everyone can see that it's always the same thing, and the game starts to get boring.
Maybe the sequel is better, but I fear not.

I think Porsche (5th part) was the best, and Hot Pursuit 1 and 2 (3rd and 6th part) weren't too far. :)

Underground is even shitter than High Stakes (part 4)... :(

Well, I downloaded NFS Underground, and I will compare it with 2nd version. I think better would be to buy new game for $40 than old version for $15+shipping.

NFS Porsche is the best! :)

(or the best game which runs on this crappy computer...)

Who told you I bought NFSU ?
It cost me the price of 2 CDs, that is less than 2 euros. More than enough for a boring game.
 If you want a game worth buying, choose TrackMania. Everyone can race online, even with 56kb modem, and game is very addictive.

What about price, I'm buying original games with box and manual in general. Alright Krys, I'll try to download TrackMania demo. Maybe you could teach to drive me on-line then?  :D

btw, Underground 2 demo is much better than it's predecessor :!: I still racing every evening for 1-2 hours. And in 1st version I liked only drag racing :)

Good news. :D Once you get it, tell me. We could meet on forum, then join one server and race together, like we did months ago at Live for Speed.

English TraclMania demo dl links available here : http://www.trackmaniagame.com/?txtStyle=tmpu&txtShow=page&ref=tmpu_downloads
This is the version with Power-Up extension included.

A new one called Speed-Up is beeing prepared, with new functionnalities. This one will also allow a full compatibility with the forthcoming TrackMania Sunrise (coming april 2005) to make a huge online fun racing/trackmaking game. I can't wait for it.

I tried TrackMania but it wasn't the game I liked to play. It's just a microscopic shadow of NFS Underground 2 :)

Why you buy original games? Piracy is the same but cheaper. And nobody will knock your door telling you have a copy in your system.

Post by: Mingva on November 13, 2004, 05:14:24 PM
rotoi> Are you buying books? If yes then why? Isn't enough just to go to the library and to take it? :)

I like to collect original games. Because most of new games now are packed in nice dvd case, I can put it in bookshelf as well :D

Post by: alanrotoi on November 16, 2004, 04:56:52 AM
I know what is your point but games are too expensive and not for the price at all. It is too expensive doing this calcule: original price + fun = too expensive. Then I think: $1.5 pirate copy + fun = game bought :)

Post by: alanrotoi on November 16, 2004, 05:06:36 AM
And it is not the same of steal a book. It would be the same if I buy a photocopy of a book.

I buy books (I'm reading Tales of Terramar by Ursula Le Guin right now) and I like original books. A book is cheaper than a game and most of times are more interesting.

Price of the game should be linked to his replay capability.
Stunts or TrackMania have, for me, a high replay value, as Civilization-like games or some sports game (high replay value in multiplayer mode only, like football or tennis games)
They are worth their price (TrackMania is only 30 euros, when most games are over 45 euros here in France). I have original games of TrackMania, Civilization 2, Call to Power 1 & 2, ...
Many games, once finished, loose all their interest. They have a low replay value, they are not worth the buy (many RTS, many adventure games, many FPS, ...).
That's my opinion.

I'll never pay a software ?30!! That's crazy!  :? Definitely they are overvalued.

QuoteDefinitely they are overvalued.
Some games, yes. The first original game I bought was Starcraft + Broodwar (cost 25 euros). Then last and this year bought some old and quite cheap original games, only for StarTrek: Birth of Federation I spent $20+shipping. Now I have 5 games in dvd case (+3 should arrive this week) and 3 games in big boxes.
Although I'm not playing some of those games for a long time now, but it have a place in my leisure history :) It's like collectibles now :D

It depends how many money you earn per month. How much is the minimum salary in Argentina (converted in euros) ? In France, minimum salary is around 1000 euros. I earn around twice than that, so 30 euros is acceptable, knowing that I buy a game like that only once a year.
In 2003 it was TrackMania, in 2004 it was TOCA pipsqueak Driver 2, and in 2005 will be TrackMania Sunrise. :D

But, to be honest, I paid TrackMania 30 euros but that's the 2nd most expensive game I ever bought (only TOCA pipsqueak Driver 2 was more expensive).
Most games I bought were under 15 euros.
But majority of games I have are not originals.

I earn about ?222/month and soon I'll earn ?277/month ( I should work 10 month to buy only the ticket to fly to europe :?) and if I found a game I like it is not a problem the price but the fun mostly.
Today I bought a $700 computer so it killed my wallet :) I will buy a lot of games to play with the new PC in the nearly future. ;)

huh 700$ for a computer, our 4 computers working at home aren't worth that much :)
I hope its running fine and you'll have some great replays :D

Actually I'll use the old computer (a Pentium 200mhz, 32mb RAM) for abandonware games and stunts competitions. The new computer will be used for internet, site managing and modern games and maybe Ultima Online which will take me a lot of time.
And both will be used for LAN matches in Doom, Rise of the triad, Civ II, Need For Speed, etc :)

I hope it will help you to update Isengard's scoreboard.

Okay, I understand that 30 euros is quite much for you then.
Compared to how much I earn, it would mean a game cost around 250-280 euros ! Of course, I'll never ever pay that much for any game. :x

250-300 Euro is the average Hungarian salary I think. My mother earns around this value, my father a bit more.

My computer here, in Debrecen cost around 500 Euros 4 years ago, now I think its value is around 200 Euros (or less).

My computer at home, in Kazincbarcika cost around 500 Euros last Christmas, now its value is a bit less.

Two computers for such high prices... Akoss Poo, you're bourgeois. :) (But not only you, as I read.)

Hungarian average salary is now cuurently around 550EUR, in the capital 670EUR before taxes, after taxes and fees it's around 330 and 400

Well you are overstating I think Zak! I don't think I'm such poor. Your values mentioned looks horribly high. Usrin?

Usrin: my bike cost 110 Euros 6 years ago (with current Euro-forint transfer rate, so 27 600 HUF). And yours? Who is bourgeois? :P

But I think "average salary" and "salary of an average person" is not the same, the second is somewhere around Akoss' data. A few very high salaries - around a few 1000 euros - can make the average much higher, but that means nothing. We should rather watch the median of data (that means 50% of people have higher and 50% have lower salary than it). I think it won't be above 300 euros, neither in the capital... (after taxes, etc.)

My bike costed 41900 HUF 3 years ago. Considering inflation, that's not a big difference. But I have only one computer (Celeron 433, 96 MB RAM), its value is surely less than 200 EUR. So, who's bourgeois?
Forever Bourgeois Pensioners! :D

Post by: Akoss Poo a.k.a. Zorromeister on November 18, 2004, 12:01:31 AM
Usrin: you are very right with the salary average topic! I agree, we have to see the median of the data!

But with the bikes, you aren't. Maybe there's inflation, but that didn't really affect the bike prices. In the bike shops, the bikes started around 18 000-20 000 HUF in Kazincbarcika 6-7 years ago, and now, in 2004, it is the same. For around 30 000 HUF, I would be able to bike a good mountain bike. (Good for me, maybe not for Zak.) Like it was in 1998.

To close the topic: now I'm planning to buy a better bike next spring, and I have 50 000 HUF for it. Or I wanted to say: I'm planning to pay around 50 000 HUF for it.

In Sunday I downloaded NFS Underground 2, and I was amazed. Really enjoyable game even if it has some bugs (hope it'll be fixed later on the update) and unrealistic features.

well I have only told the statistical average salaries :)
of course we should know the standard deviation to analyse these numbers correctly.

about bikes:

well I'm a maniac :)

my MTB was 1000EUR 1.5 years ago
my 20 year old vintage road bike was 200EUR this summer
and our tandem was 500EUR.

but it's well known that i'm a maniac (I worked for 5 months without spending any money to be able to buy my MTB :))

I haven't played nfs2se in ages. But I have it around somewhere. Just need to find a CD-ROM drive...
(I used a 5^1/4 and a3.5 inch floppy until early 2000. Then ditched the CD-ROM in 2007 because downloading was quicker)
