Did you ever play Neil McRae? I loved this rally game. Especially played at KHR's with steering wheel and force feedback :)

dont miss the last rally event of 2003!
4 pipsqueaks have a chance to win the WRC 2003, which is maybe the last intresting rally year because of the stupid new rules :(

Go Citroen, Go Loeb!

I support Loeb too, but I fear Solberg will win.
At THIS moment, Sainz abandonned, Solberg is leading and Loeb is 4th at 8 seconds.
And main goal for Citro?n is to keep Loeb in top 5 to be sure to have constructors title since Sainz abandonned...
So I fear Loeb won't take all risks to be sure to give Citro?n the constructors championship...
I would prefer to see Peugeot win constructors champ and Leob win pipsqueaks champ. :D

I don't like the new rules of WRC, only 2 drivers per team, less teams, pffff... :?
But after the 1st day, S. Loeb is leading on his Citro?n with 18 seconds before M. Martin and M. Gr?nholm :!:  :D
Title: Wow, what a championship !
Post by: Krys TOFF on April 19, 2004, 01:57:18 PM
Some say they don't like WRC (Argy, ...).
But they are wrong.

Look at F1 : no interest as long as Schumi will race.

Look at Moto GP : no interest as long as Rossi will race (yes, even with Yamaha, 1st race, 1st win with his new team  ).

Look at WRC : 4 races, top 4 pipsqueaks classification :
1/ M. MARTIN (FORD) : 26 points
2/ S. LOEB (CITROEN) : 25 points
3/ M. GRONHOLM (PEUGEOT) : 24 points
4/ P. SOLBERG (SUBARU) : 23 points

Isn't that a good competition ? 4 pipsqueaks, 4 teams, 4 cars, 4 points difference after 4 rallies. I love that. :D  :D  :D

You are right Krys, but when cars are running against the clock, and not against each other (body to body), and not all of the event is broadcast, it's not so interesting to watch it. But rally is a very amazing sight when you see it live, beside the rally track.
Title: WRC
Post by: Krys TOFF on April 20, 2004, 08:16:08 AM
It's not always against clock, there was 2 special steps raced one against one on the same track on last rally.

But you are right, there's not enough of WRC on TV, and too much football. :? (I talk for French TV only, maybe it's different for some of you  ).

And Sebastien Loeb drove for Citroen.
And this dream has now come true. :D  :D  :D

Our AX already did 250.000 km! :D Of course with some little problems in the last time, but nearly nothing we couldn't fix by ourselves! A really great car with an undestroyable motor. By the way, it doesn't need more than 5 liters Diesel / 100 km, which really is great for such an old car!

My Renault Clio needs about 7-8 liters.... :? That's f***ing expensive!

which model year?

our AX is 1989, 3door, white, 1.0 fuel engine (also 5l/100km)
but it has only 120000km :)
too bad I broke the wheel suspension now its waiting to be fixed/sold :(

but I also love this car.

Let's bring back alive this topic.
In the last 3 years Sebastien Loeb won with Citroen Xsara.
This year he has a new car : Citroen C4.
Will this car be as good as Xsara and help Loeb to win a 4th championship title ?
Will new evolution of Ford Focus help Marcus Gronholm to earn a 3rd championship title ? He was close to Loeb last year.
Will Subaru be back at its best after a deceiving season in 2006 ?

First answer this week-end with Rally of Monte-Carlo.
So far : 2 steps raced, both won by Loeb before Sordo and Gronholm. :D It seems C4 is as fast as Xsara was. But will it be as reliable...? That's the main question...
Title: Re: World Rally Championship

Loeb is already boring. And on the other hand, WRC is not that strong nowadays.

Quote from: CTGLoeb is already boring. And on the other hand, WRC is not that strong nowadays.
Main problem is that Gronholm and Loeb are way much better than the other pipsqueaks. Therefore, general classification is these 2 guys at top - big gap - the others.

edit : little modification : it seems C4 WRC is quite faster than Ford Focus. So far (after 5 steps) Loeb is leading, Sordo is 2nd (C4 too) and Gronholm 3rd. Others are already very far behind (already more than 1 minute late), especially Peter Solberg (8th) while Atkinson, his teammate at Subaru, is 4th.

This season will be exciting at the end: Loeb vs Gr?nholm, finally the latter has a good car too (or Loeb has a worse?)
Title: Re: World Rally Championship
Post by: Chulk on June 20, 2007, 04:14:40 PM
I think it's a bit of both. New C4 is not as good as Xsara was and Focus evolution is showing that it was worthy. Anyway Loeb is better than Gr?nholm so Leob will win.
Title: Re: World Rally Championship
Post by: Krys TOFF on September 03, 2007, 09:54:30 AM
:o :o :o0.3 second !!!! :o :o :o

The shortest time difference in WRC history between a 1st and a 2nd driver of a rally !
Previous shortest was McRae 2.1 second before Sainz almost 10 years ago. But this weekend Gronholm was faster than Loeb for only 0.3 second after New-Zealand rally.
These 2 drivers are really above anyone else, Hirvonen is 3rd at 1'42" of the leaders... ::)

For the championship, with 5 remaining rallies to race, Gronholm has now 10 points in advance compared to Loeb in general classification. Loeb have to win all 5 remaining rallies to be world champion in case Gronholm is always 2nd.
One help for Loeb : Duval (2nd in Germany and always fast on paved/tar roads) will race in Spain. This may help Loeb like in Germany if Duval manage to finish 2nd there again behind Loeb. We will see. :)

...And Loeb is World Champion for the 4th time in a row.
As Gronholm decided to retire, who will be able to match Loeb next year ? His teammate Sordo ho improved a lot this year ? Hirvonen who was the only one beeing able to win a rally except the 2 masters ? Maybe, but probably not. Makinen's record (4 times world champion in a row) is now also Loeb's record, and next year Loeb will be the only one to be world champion 5 times in a row ! ;D
Gronholm had his chance but failed to manage the pressure in Japan and Ireland. Loeb made also a mistake in Japan, but perfectly managed the pressure in Ireland and in UK. Loeb is really THE master of WRC.

No, this is because there is almost no icy part, so it's like any paved road event : Loeb, Sordo and Duval are the specialists. Hirvonen is much better with dirt fast roads. We can expect a Citroen 1st and 2nd place for all paved road rallies (Monte-Carlo, Germany, ...) this year, as Gronholm is retired and Sordo is improving every year. Duval could have been a tough opponent if he was not with a brand new co-pilot.

Good start from Hirvonen, but he made a mistake and had to retire. He can come back today with "super-rally" feature, but podium is lost for sure.
Latvalla lost a lot of time in 2nd step (9 minutes).
Loeb simply stayed on the road without too much risks, so he is now easy leader 1'30" before Atkinson and 1'38" before Peter Solberg. Subaru is coming back to the podiumers it seems with the help of Ford drivers mistakes.
Battle for 4th place so far is between Galli (Ford Stobbart) and Sordo (Citroen), Gally took the advantage at the end of day 1 and is now 19 seconds before Sordo. Galli may harrass Solberg on saturday as he came back only 9 seconds behind him.
Latvalla is 8th so far, 9'27" behind Loeb.

Yep, too bad for Peter Solberg, I was happy to see him back to the podium and sadly he had his electircal issue last day.
Latvalla had problems too but on saturday and so he was able to come back on sunday in super-rally mode.
Sordo's 3rd place is good for team championship : Citroen team is getting close to Ford after this rally.

Overall, I think this year we will see Loeb champion again, while Ford will be team champion again.
Sordo is slower than Hirvonen and Latvalla (except when they do mistakes like in Argentina) in general, except on paved/tar surface. If Citroen wants to be team champion, they will need to be 1 and 2 (Loeb and Sordo in this order, Loeb beeing obviously designed as number 1 in the team) for all paved roads rallies of the season, and hope that Sordo will be as regularly in points as possible for dirt roads rallies.

1st Suzuki, now Subaru.
WRC will merge with IRC in 2010 I think. Cost reduction required + switch to S2000 specifications for WRC cars in 2010 = cheaper WRC + come-back of Suzuki and Subaru + quite similar to IRC current cars => come-back of IRC teams into WRC name, but still sponsored by EuroSport (main sponsor of IRC).

Of course, IRC I talk about is Intercontinental Rally Challenge, not Indy Racing Car. :P ;D

But he won't survive long as an official pipsqueak of Ford team. Latvalla is really 1 scratch-1 crash man, just like Duval was a few years ago and then got fired from Citroen. Seems to me that 1 or 2 DNF rally for Latvalla would mean him replaced by Duval, especially for paved roads/tarmac rallies.
