Title: Forum bugfixes
Post by: zaqrack on January 31, 2006, 09:41:19 AM
JTK is no longer as admin since the last engine update, I found the bug. Sorry mate! :)

You can finally upload your avatars, not only link to them.

I thought that he had been deprived of being an admin because he entered the Looping Warriors forum, and posted in it once. It was just before JTK was deprived from his admin rights.

I noticed it today as I wanted to see, if Alain wrote "praise" or "skid" at the praise thread.

But we can't upload a file from the computer, we can only upload a small pic to our sites, and link that to the forum, to have an avatar. I thought it is a bug and it is for everybody...

I just told that I fixed this bug - or at least i hope.
now everyone can upload an avatar to the forum, no need to link from an external site

I thought 'you' relates to JTK (so since he's an admin again, he can upload avatars), and not to us.

Now it's okay. ;)

there was a mass fake user registration in the past days. I've made registration a bit more strict, and also have deleted all users who haven't posted anything. If you encounter any spam/abuse report me and I'll make registration even stricter :)

Why not using the original car names + adjectives (to keep the spirit you already had for current forum ranks) as new ranks ?

Lamborghini LM002 Learner
Audi Quattro Sport Quartermaster
Lancia Delta Integrale Driver
Ferrari GTO Glider
Porsche Carrera 4 Challenger
Lamborghini Countach Commander
Corvette ZR1 Crusader (no word starting with a Z was appropriate)
Honda Acura NSX Adventurer
Jaguar XRJ9 Juggler (no word starting with an X was appropriate)
Porsche 962 Needer
Porsche March Indy Invader

What about this(ese) new ranks idea(s) ?
I don't want to become a spammer when I'll reach 2000th post.
If you want one final rank that remains after 2000th postn I would prefer something like "Elder of Stunts community" or "Wiseman of Stunts community" :-D

Btw I think CTG can stay in the "No new rank for spammers" rank, but the others should have new ranks or a final rank named the way Krys mentioned.

we had the first succesful hack of zakstunts in the past 5 years.
the forum was hacked by a script kiddie exploiting a known bug, nothing from the database was lost thank heavens.
I have installed the newest fixed forum version and updated some passwords
there is still a high risk that it'll happen again, but I'm trying my best.

Zak : there's no indication of dimension size nor kbites limit about avatars written in profile personalization page, but I couldn't upload my new avatar.
Is it the upload that doesn't work or is there some limits I don't know and that my avatar bypass ?
Title: Re: Forum bugfixes

strange it should work, as far as i know there is no size limit and dimensions must be below 100x100, but the forum should resize it when its larger

Title: server speed
Post by: Krys TOFF on November 20, 2006, 09:57:54 AM
I didn't saw a big change when server speed was improved at the beginning of November, but I can see a big change since yesterday : server speed is VERY slow. It applies at USC, ZakStunts and the forum... ::) ??? :-[
Title: Re: Forum bugfixes
Post by: zaqrack on November 20, 2006, 10:43:53 AM
it's due to some heavy bittorrent usage by my brother. It'll be gone in a day, sorry for the inconvenience!

I'll try to learn how to set up traffic shaping, so I could give prioritiy to the server data flow over local traffic and downloading. That way torrents could not interfere with the server.
It's quite complicated but I'll solve somehow.

IE can't remember my password correctly for Stunts Forum... I don't know why, but it always happened to me. The first time I logged in, my username and password where written correctly, as after the "remember password..." notification from IE, I clicked "yes" and had no problem. But everytime I come to the forum, I type Chulk and press Tab to jump to password square, it fills with the password but it's always wrong. The thing is that none of the digits seems to be wrong, as I tried changing 5 at a time (Pass is 6 letter/numbers long) and when I left 1st sign untouched it didn't work, when I left 2nd untouched, it didn't work, and so on until I left the 6th one untouched, (totally convinced it would work fine) but then, it didn't! :o So I don't know what's wrong with it.

Use Opera. :D

For me FF 2 is faster than IE 6 or 7 in all webpages, except to load BATRacer races (especially long races like LeMans Endurance Series races).
I got FF 3 but it's slower than FF 2 so I stayed with FF 2.

Else, for your problem of password, did you tried to delete all cookies and then re-connect to the forum and select to keep the password remembered ?
Or, do you have an antivirus that is selected to very high protection level and therefore erases cookies regularly ?

Zak, for the second time I've seen something very strange with the forum (first time it happened I reloaded too fast for actually realizing it): as I tried to open Who's Online, I got redirected to the strange stuff contained in the attached .txt - seemingly part of the SMF PHP/HTML code appended to a lot of spambot links. Reloading would get me to the proper page, but as soon as I tried to go elsewhere the same thing would happen. After a few more reloads (one of them bypassing browser cache with CTRL+F5) the forum returned to normal. However, (coincidentally or not,) my avatar disappeared again afterwards...

More on spambot rubbish... (sorry if I'm being a bit annoying with posting notice after notice - the intention is just helping by gathering data about the issue) The attached .txt has a number of corrupted forum pages I got during the last few minutes - you can tell different pages apart from the Apache header lines, or the blocks of spam links. One thing that draws my attention is that all avatars, including long-disappeared ones like mine, had been restored about two days ago. However, just after I got these errors my avatar vanished again (only mine seems to be gone, but from what I've seen the avatars do not disappear all at the same time, but at a rate of about one every two days or so). Crossing this fact with the issues with the chat page (which resumed working properly by the same time the avatars returned), one gets the impression that all issues are related...

I can't see your avatar or mine either. I see the rest of them but they appear bigger...

I had finally some time to check the spambot issues. The forum engine was definitely hacked, some source files were modified on the server. The spambot code resides in a base64 encoded block added to after the file headers. Also found the problem announced on SMF forums.
I have upgraded to the latest SMF stable (a thing what I should have done a lot earlier obviously...), hopefully this will solve problems for a while.

Duplode and other interested might find this topic interesting:
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=307717.0 (http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=307717.0)

yes, we had krisbarteo user registered as well.
Looks like a simple update was not enough I have to reinstall the forum and the add-ons. Will do now :)

Lucky, there is already a cleanup script solving the problem:
