Title: World Cup 2006 - Germany (World Cup ONLY)
Post by: vamologocomisso on May 26, 2006, 06:45:27 PM
lets stay focus on the topic, because some others topics about football were contamined(a word that akoss like, hehehe) by all kinds of sttuff besides football. Its true that hungarian volleyball and danish handball or even brasilian "cuspe" competition are very interesting and all, but how about not talking about these great sports here ?      :-D  :-D

Im really excited abou the beginning of another world cup and Im about to quit my job so I could watch every game, hehehe (im not macho enough ;)

well, I will put my predictions bellow, and I must say that I would love to commit lots of mistakes, because this is the beauty about the biggest sport event ever.

1:1 Croatia : Brasil
3:2 Croatia : Argentina
2:1 Croatia : Italy
2:2 Croatia : France
4:1 Croatia : Austria
1:0 Croatia : Sweden (2 times)

P.S. Italy never won against us, we played 5 times, 3 victories. I think they hate us :)

Oh yeah... Suker...the best goalgater of 1998 World Cup. We miss him also :) But the new generation of players is taking its shape, we have a good team also. I hope our small country can surprise some giant nations on this world cup! :)

My favourite was Zvonimir Boban...

Also, one of Denmark's most famous goals was scored against Croatia, the famous wind goal :-)

Mislav, I respect Croatia alot, and its the strongest team besides brazil in our group, but like I explained before, I like the surprises that allways occur in world cups, and I just tryed to discover wich ones would happen (bad for croatia in my prediction, hehehe, maybe bad for brazil in reality, but I really dont think so ;)

Kryss, France was the biggest deception I ever saw in world cups, in 2002. Maybe Im still mad because 1998 and I hate the french football team ever since (its problably this), and the french normaly play well against european and (sadly) against south american, but not so well against asian and african. And I have to say that the last friendly game france played (I think it was one or two weeks ago. It was a 0 x 0 and horrible game), it was again bellow my expetation, mainly because of trezeghet and henry and their midle-field companions.

Once again I repeat: I hope to commit many mistakes in my predictions (except for brasil performance, hehehe).

Just one thing its NOT acceptable: Argentina and France may NOT win the tittle!!!

Its really amazing all those results against strong teams!
But you know that its not rare that some teams play very efficient before the tournament and when it start...   . Im not cheering against croatia (not yet  ), but its statistics, like the opposite of this = some teams play awfully before the championship and with the ferocity of the real thing...

well, sometimes its even an (maybe dirty) strategy, I dont know... :!:

conclusions:
- the game only its finished when its finished;
- Im really excited to begin

WHATS GONNA HAPPEN ????????? Im dying here
:?                  :?

So many Croatian fans here, wow, I'm so happy :) you all, especially our Hungarian neighbours, should make holidays this summer in Croatia! Swimming in the see, watching world cup and nice girls in bikinis. And a lot of drinking :)

Everything here is already in the world cup fever, everybody's talking about it, everybody takes vacations for the World Cup period, the TV sellings jumped 40% up only because of the upcoming football matches on the program!

Of course Vamologo, I understand your way of predicting :) I also like surprises from the "underdogs", like Euro2004 when Greece won, and they were predicted in gambling as the weakest team of the championship!!

About Brasil - it will not be a surprise if you stay world champion. It is always nice to see how you play, really PLAY football, most of others just WORK football :)

My prediction: Brasil or the Netherlands as world champions!

And of course Croatia :)

Quote from: "Mislav"most of others just WORK football

exactly!!!
I dont like the german, the english, the most of tall teams(like norway), because they play an "ugly" football. The word you used was perfect - they WORK (all caps like you) football. Some others european teams play that way in many games, like italy (now they are saying that their team is all about offense and nice play, lets see), france sometimes (their defense is something marvelous, I must say), and many others.

Some teams just dont have any technique, and dont deserve the "work football" definition, altough they dont play nicely.

Of course england played some awesome games in world cups (who can forget that game against argentina, one of the best, or against brasil).

Mislav, its true that croatia is know like the european brasil ?
You sure play a nice and enjoyable football.
Im starting to consider to change my predictions about croatia, hehehe ;-)

Hehe, the European Brasil sounds good... I heard it somewhere already, but we are not as good as that yet to be called so. I really enjoy our way of playing but the problem is, if we have to strong opponent (Brasil for example :), we loose the simplicity of PLAYing...then it becomes WORK haha!! But our team couch is WORKING on that problem :)

I guess Brazil and Holland will play the final, and the Brazilians will win by 2-1. Italy will take the bronze. Don't know if it's possible or not, it's just a guess without watching schedule.

Italy 3rd ? Not if they play as they did versus Switzerland.
But if France played as they did versus Mexico, it will be a disaster like in 2002. I hope France will keep playing like versus Denmark.
One statistic : each time France beat Denmark when preparing/during a championship, France wins => 1998, World Cup / 2000, European Championship / 2001, Confederation Cup. So, France should win in order to keep this statistic true. :-D

Lastest news : Czech Rep. : Smicer will not play World Cup.

There is no way France will win the world cup. Also, I don't know why everyone think Brazil or Holland will win, and also that Sweden will finish very high. I can see no reason for this :-)
My bet is on Argentina as world champions, because they are without this pressure, and you can also expect Ukraine and maybe USA to reach the semi-finals.

BJ, you said many interesting things, many could happen, BUT "USA to reach the semi-finals", I dont think so. It seems that they got worst than before, but everybody still think that they are improving more and more. Maybe next world cup, not in this one!

Liechtenstein is not such a bad team :-) As far as I recall, they did quite well in their qualifying group.

Just checked: 2 wins (vs Luxembourg), 2 draws (probably vs Latvia and Estonia), and 8 losses. Goals: 13-28

Not that bad! I think we can safely assume that Togo will win the world cup...

A country that looses a match vs Luxembourg must stop playing football and go fishing.

I aggree. I don't think he'll play too much. And he will be a great loss for his country.

Quote from: "Jacky said one thing wrong"There is no way France will win the world cup.
1 chance to 32. That's a theorical statistic. So there's still a chance. Especially if Zidane does not play more than 1 hour per match.

Quote from: "Jacky said again one thing wrong"maybe USA to reach the semi-finals
Oh my God ! I hope not. They do not deserve it. I would like to see Spain reach this level. Spanish football is one of the most interesting in Europe, but they never made better than quarter-finals.

Their draws were against Slovakia (0-0) :( and Portugal (2-2). Btw, in Bratislava they really sucked (7-0), whilst Portugal could hardly beat them at home (Liechtenstein led after 1st half, finally Portugal won 2-1).

I think about 95% of the Trinidad and Tobago population live on Trinidad, and it also covers about that much of the area. If Tobago was to play with its own team, it would be almost as good as San Marino.

Australia (with 10 players) draw with Netherland;
Japan was beating Germany by 2 x 0, and draw in the end (in germany territory);
Croatia did not very well in the last 2 friendly matches, but its a powerfull team.

The F group isnt weak like some may think. :!:

last spamming in a row:

Mislav, in the world cup, who will play with Dado Prso in the attack ? Ivica Olic or Ivan Klasnic ?

And whats happening with your players ? Everybody is sick ?

Haha, I see you know pretty good our players! I don't know if I am allowed to tell you who will play the attack with Dado Prso, you could be a brasilian spy hehe...  ;) Ivica Olic usually never plays all 90 minutes, but there is still no official top11given for the match against you.

About the sickness: few days after the arrival of our team in Germany, half of them got sick because of some really bad food in the camp! They were shitting all the time and felt like shit ;) So we had to put other non-standard players, some of them new in the team, the coach give them a chance to play. But we really sucked. Now, everybody is ok again. We'll bring our cooks to cook the tested food for the team haha!

What about your attack players? Ronaldo and Ronaldinho? :)

About the food, I swear, it wasnt me

about our attack, I will tell you a little secret: Only one thing is sure - Ronaldo will be the only player who dont have the obrigation to come back and help the defense. It will be everybody else duty.

Normaly, Ronaldinho play in the mid-field (with offense caracteristics), but he NEVER used HALF of his talent in Brasil. Here we use to say that he only plays very good in Barcelona.
Other problem in attack: Ronaldo and Adriano never played well with each other.

The good point is that Ronaldo allways play much more in important matches, and Parreira (our coach) its an annoying fellow who order all the time, our players to play more collectivly (I love to invent words, hehehe)

Quote from: "vamologocomisso"Normaly, Ronaldinho play in the mid-field (with offense caracteristics), but he NEVER used HALF of his talent in Brasil. Here we use to say that he only plays very good in Barcelona.
Ronaldhino needs good forwards to play 100% of his potential. A forward that does not just wait for the others to play and just finish the action with a goal.
Problem is that Ronaldo is like Trezeguet : he waits for a ball, nothing more. Look Henry or Eto'o : they do not only wait for a ball, they attack, defend, and also can pass to others. They score goals AND act as members of a team. Ronaldo doesn't. He plays for himself. He wants to score and doesn't know what passing the ball means. And Trezeguet is the same as Ronaldo.
For these reasons, Ronaldo and Trezeguet do not deserve to be in their national teams.
Giuly would have been a much better choice for France forward with Henry, Wiltord, Cisse and Saha than Trezeguet. That's my opinion.

Perhaps Trezeguet is intended as an emergency-substitute for bad situations rather than someone to start on the field?

I even don't think so : Ribery will be much better for this according to his speed and energy. Ribery still needs to improve and learn of high level competitions, but sure he his more polyvalent and faster than Trezeguet.

I think French manager made mistakes with members selection for French team. Giuly (forward), Micoud (defender) and Pires (midfield) should have been in the team instead of (respectively) Trezeguet, Sylvestre and Dhorasoo.

And, of course, Coupet should have been goalkeeper number 1 instead of number 2. Barthez is not as good as he was in 1998-2002. Now, Coupet is better.
Germany choosed to put Khan number 2 without any problem, why in Hell everyone think in France that Barthez would have not accepted to be 2nd goalkeeper ? :x

He used to be, from 1994-1998. Then Barthez became the best, and mlogically was selected number 1 for 1998 World cup.
Barthez remained best French goalkeeper until 2004 in my opinion. Since last 2 years, Coupet is the new best French goalkeeper.

Kryss, I think you got too far with Ronaldo. He isnt THAT sellfish. He sure prefers to try to score than pass the ball for a cretain goal from his teammate (what its not very noble of him, although sometimes he assists very well), but his carisma and joy to play(in this kind of tournament, because in spanish championship...) motivates everybody in the team. The mood becames very excited and all. The others players have proud of him, its kind of complicated to explain, but I think I made myself clear...

I dont like Ronaldo and Adriano together. Robinho and even Fred would be interesting to play by his side, and none of these players must stay all 90 minutes.

About henry, he is an AWSOME player. Like you said he is complete, but he still need to show some guts in the most important championship. I expect much from him, lets see.

Trezeght its what we call here "banheira". Stay besides the goalkeeper all the time ;)

The attacker who is only waiting for a good pass and score - but does nothing else on the field. Like van Nistelrooy or Trezeguet.

exactly what I said. Ronaldo has joy and happiness with brasil. He is like an spoil kid who needs everybody saying he is the best all the time, and in the national team this happens   (its absurd, but in the end brasil may be the champion again with our spoil and happy child playing his best :P )
Ronaldinho smiles more and do some very impressive tricks, but impressive tricks dont win games. Dont get me wrong, I like his tricks, but I LOVE to win, hehehe

Bloody Hell ! Cisse have been injured by a Chinese guy during last training match. :x He may not be able to take part of the World Cup... :(
In this case, somebody else would be called to replace him. Who ? Giuly I hope. But it would be even better if Cisse is not injured too much...

I participate in the tipping contest of my department at the university. Here are my tips for the first round:

Quote from: "Chulk"Cisse is a great player. Hopefully he will be able to play. By the way, why isn't Giuly in the team? Who is in his place?
Trezeguet is I think.
And as supposed, Giuly or Anelka has not been chosen to replace Cisse : Govou was chosen even if he was not as good as Giuly or Anelka.
Another choice could have been Pires, to replace Wiltord as midfield and put back Wiltord to his original place : forward.

About the match France-China : we saw once again than Trezeguet is not efficient more than 30 minutes. He replaced Cisse, scored a goal (thanks to Henry, he did all the job and Trezeguet just had to put the ball in the finish) and then we didn't saw him until he was replaced.
So Trezeguet is made to put some additionnal pressure on the forward only for the last 20-30 minutes of a match. So he should not play from the start. Never.
Another thing is the efficiency of Ribery : he entered 15 minutes and immediately gave speed and energy to the team. Can he make it during 90 minutes ? Not sure. He should be preserved for help in case a match is badly engaged.
Title: WC2006 crazy predictions.
Post by: Krys TOFF on June 09, 2006, 01:10:29 PM
Let me predict too.

Groups final results/qualifications :

Group A :
1/ Germany
2/ Poland
3/ Ecuador
4/ Costa Rica
Poland will have advantage compared to Ecuador : their fans can come and hail for them. This can make a big difference.
Germany can't be else but 1st in this group.

Group B :
1/ England
2/ Sweden
3/ Paraguay
4/ Trinidad & Tobago
Sweden can be 1st in this group, England must be careful. But theorically, England should be 1st. Paraguay and T&T have no chance.

Group C :
1/ Argentina
2/ Netherlands
3/ Ivory coast
4/ Serbia
Difficult group. Argentina experience should help them reach 1st place. Netherlands never starts good their competitions (it was the case again at "less-than-21-years-old" Euro that took place few days ago), they always get better and better when competition advances. But they should be qualified anyway.

Group D :
1/ Portugal
2/ Mexico
3/ Angola
4/ Iran
Iran has problems with some of his players. Portugal should be 1st easily. Mexico deserves the 2nd place. Easy group for Portugal.

Group E :
1/ Czech Republic
2/ Italy
3/ USA
4/ Ghana
Italy is not at his best. They have difficulties to score. Czech vitality should make them 1st in this group. Italy experience should allow them to be qualified. USA are improving, but they can't be qualified. They MUST NOT be qualified. I hate them for electing and re-electing G.W. Bush, I want them to be humiliated by Ghana, even if I know it will not happen...

Group F :
1/ Brazil
2/ Croatia
3/ Japan
4/ Australia
Who else than Brazil to be 1st in this group ? 2nd place will be hard between Japan and Croatia. But Japanese will fall I think. Except if Brazil plays less good their 3rd match versus Japan. Why do I say that ? Because Brazil-Japan is last match of the group and as Brazil should be already sure to be qualified, they may help Zico (famous Brazilian player but now Japan team manager) and let Japan have a draw with them. I hope to be wrong, but after what happened in Italy for example, I know that kind of "tactics" may happen during WC 2006.

Group G :
1/ France
2/ Switzerland
3/ South Korea
4/ Togo
Main match is the one between France and Switzerland for 1st place. I think it will be a draw but France should be 1st with better goal-average on the other 2 matches. South Korea won't have referee's help like 4 years ago (remember match versus Spain ? Spain should have been in semi-final in 2002), so they will be 3rd in this group.

Group H :
1/ Spain
2/ Ukraine
3/ Tunisia
4/ Saudi Arabia
Ukraine is powerfull, but I hope Spain will overtake them. Tunisia can do a surprise and be qualified if Spain or Ukraine do a bad match. But if Spain and Ukraine play seriously, they should be both qualified.

So, these tips lead to the following :

1/8 final :
Germany-Sweden => Germany will win with difficulties.
England-Poland => Poland because English will be over-confident due to their 1st place in their group. They have the bad habit to always under-estimate their opponents.
Argentina-Mexico => Argentina, easily, logically.
Portugal-Netherlands => Portugal with many difficulties.
Czech Rep-Croatia => Czech Rep after penalty session.
Brazil-Italy => Brazil, but they will need to defend better than ever. Else Italy will win as they always can score if you let them play.
France-Ukraine => France with luck.
Spain-Switzerland => Spain easily.

1/4 final :
Germany-Argentina => Argentina with luck.
Poland-Portugal => Portugal after penalty session.
Czech Rep-France => Czech Rep with energy, except if Henry and Ribery can make the difference, but I fear not...
Brazil-Spain => Spain (there's always a big suprise on every WC, this is the one of WC2006). Even if the match is Italy-Sapin, I hope Spain to be the winner.

Semi-Final :
Argentina-Czech Rep => Czech Rep with luck.
Portugal-Spain => Spain after penalty session.

3rd place :
Argentina-Portugal => Argentina.

Final :
Spain-Czech Rep => Spain because they deserve it.

Of course, it won't happen this way and we will probably see Germany, Italy, Brazil and a 4th one (Netherlands ?) as final 4 probably, but I'd like to see Czech Rep and Spain do a good World Cup.

Krys: I also hope we'll see great performance from the Czech team, but their place in the final seems to be very unrealistic... Sad but true: FIFA wants to see only the most popular teams in the last rounds because that's the interest of advertisers... Just a remark: there won't be golden goal, extra time will be 2x15 minutes even if somebody scores during it.

1-2. This Costa Rican team is very weak... At least it seems... I thought that they are stronger. Lucky first goal by the Germans.

Looooool ! You're crazy ! Togo 0 x 5 France :-D

every male on earth has a huge part of his brain dedicated to SOCCER! me too:

FRANCE is on the verge to beat togo by a landslide (more than four goals, probably six) this team has no coach (all the coaches of this team resigned today because of salary problems) it will be the last match and togo will have zero points. it will be like 1-6 in cameroon russia in 94 with the five goals of salenko.

south korea is far from an international level ( they were unable to beat saudi arabia on both matches in the qualifications) they had a very bad friendly matches preparation last month. I think we can beat them 3-0, that would not surprise me at all.

switzerland is crippled in injuries: Patrick M?ller, Valon Behrami, Marco Streller, Philippe Senderos are to be benched. And we know switzerland by heart for dominating them in the qualifications. minimum 2-0 france.

I feel great about the national team. no midget giuly, no lazy anelka, no worthless pires, three stupid individuals that are always in ire. we have three world class goalkeepers, barthez coupet and landreau. even with malouda, vieira and cisse injured, the team depth chart is... deep. so deep we can line up two teams :o

look at our team playing the world cup: we have some plans (several plans, not just "a" plan), and it will be beautiful to watch it.

RIBERY. the world will remember his six world cup goals. allez l'OM!!!

i dont trust germany (two goals? against costa rica? are you kidding???) and argentina (ivory coast played so slowly i don't understand how argentina couldnt score three more goals!) england is playing football like "the dirty dozen" It's france and brasil world cup.

vaterland has done very little things well for his world cup: the grass is always too weak and players slip on it, tv broadcast sucks because the players look like ants. with that heat, you can see few water bottles on the  sidelines... lastly they also decided to close the roofs of stadiums because of the shadow and sun annoying contrast on tv.

France and brasil will be the only teams to play an impressive 4-2-4

i know, this disposition has disappeared in modern football, but ONLY france and brasil can afford having four real forwards on the field on this world cup: ribery zidane wiltord and henry vs Ronaldinho Kaka Ronaldo and Robinho

but france only can display the best middle ever in support: vieira and makelele.

Quote from: "al il professore"depth chart? behind zidane wiltord ribery and henry, we have trezeguet, saha, govou and dhorasoo. those are no jokers. they can turn into blood thirsty scorers.
Dhorasoo is no joker, he is a clown. Not effective. I don't like him.

Quote from: "al il professore"france only can display the best middle ever in support: vieira and makelele.
True for Makelele. Viera is not on top at the moment. A full power Viera is awesome, a half-full power Viera is better than most of the WC midfield players anyway.

Quote from: "CTG"I hate French football.
Mmmm. Why ? And why do you think France will finish 3rd of this WC then ? Even I don't think so.

RIBERY. the world will remember his six world cup goals. allez l'OM!!!
Giuly, anelka and Pires are better that numerous players of most of the nations present in this WC.
Ribery is the future, but it's better to keep him as joker number 1 for the last 30 minutes of each match I think. Else, he will be too tired after the groups matches.
Malouda is a key member, I hope he will play.
Cisse's speed will be missed.
Wiltord, Saha or Govou ar not as effective as Cisse. But they will get the job done to make Henry score for sure. Saha and Wiltord proved it more than once before.
About "plans", yes, France has many differents plans to play, and can be effective on all of them :
4-4-2 (Henry and Saha because Cisse is injured)
4-5-1 (Henry as the main forward in this case)
4-3-2-1 (Henry as the main forward in this case. With Wiltord or Saha on the right and Malouda or Ribery on the left behind him, it should be the best "scoring machine" configuration)
4-2-3-1 (Henry as the main forward in this case, same as 4-3-2-1 but with Zidane a little bit forward)
4-2-4 (as Alain said, but probably not used against teams with 4 or 5 midfields. Can be the best choice against teams playing 4-3-3, even if Zidane told that he would not like this configuration)
4-3-3 (Henry, Trezeguet and Saha/Wiltord probably in this case. Normally it would have been Henry-Trezeguet-Cisse...)
4-4-1-1 (Henry as the main forward in this case, but less probability with Cisse missing to be just behind Henry... Except if Ribery can play this way. And I'm sure he can so why not)

I hate French football since 1998. It was a lucky, dirty victory - just remember France-Paraguay or France-Croatia. I also hate their style and some certain players too. Zidane is the only positive character from that team. And generally Hungarian people don't like French because of the history. This hate is true for me too - but only in sports. I like friendly people like you, independently from nations.

My hate isn't enough to avoid their 3rd place.

Quote from: "CTG"I hate French football since 1998. It was a lucky, dirty victory - just remember France-Paraguay or France-Croatia.
France-Paraguay : Only Paraguay goalkeeper was playing in this match. Ball possession was almost 90% for France. Paraguay only defended and thay were waiting for penalties. Laurent Blanc scored golden goal before the end of the match, during extended time, but victory was well deserved to France.

France-Croatia : nice match, and individual performance from Lillian Thuram saved France from defeat. Match was excellent, Suker was on top (he was the only one to score a goal to Barthez during WC 1998 except goals scored on penalty by Denmark and Italy), French forward players couldn't find the way to goal, they started to doubt and lost their way to play. Only Thuram, the French defender who made a mistake that made Suker goal for Croatia, managed to play 110% instead of 100% to correct his mistake and then give France victory. Croatia could have win this match, but in the end Thuram won it. Not France, only Thuram. Sometimes, one player can modify a match. This match was Thuram's match.
Was this luck ? No, it was Thuram's motivation.
Was it "dirty" or undeserved ? No : Croatia lost one match (versus Argentina) while France had lost no match before in this WC. It was logical that France was favorite. But Croatia made a great WC : they finished 3rd in the end, beating Netherlands for the 3rd place. Remember that Brazil was qualified versus Netherlands for the final only at penalty session. Croatia's 3rd place was a really good performance.

You don't talk about France-Italy. This was the most difficult match for France I think, more difficult than France-Croatia because of Italian defenders that were just too good for French forwards. And France didn't beat Italy : this match have been finished with the penalties. Goalkeeper Fabien Barthez was at his very best, he was the player that made France win this match.
But for penalty session, talent is not enough, luck is also required. This one is the match that was won with a part of luck in my opinion.
All other matches have been won logically, with talent and/or motivation.

In 1998, those who were the most unlucky, like in 2002, were Spain, not Croatia. Spain made marvelous matches in their group, and were beaten because they failed to score versus Paraguay. Again, Paraguay performance was only due to their goalkeeper. They never played, they just defended.

Quote from: "CTG"generally Hungarian people don't like French because of the history. This hate is true for me too - but only in sports
Yes, I remember some discuss about it with Akoss on chatroom when I joined Stunts community. This has nothing to do with football, nor with WC, nor with us : none of us were born in 1956 (except AbuRaf).

For T&T, this draw was like a victory. But to win you need to score, not only to defend. T&T defended well, they remind me of Paraguay in 1998 (see my comment about France-Paraguay on the previous post)...

Portugal's group is weaker if you count all 4 teams, because France is a stronger team than Portugal, but what I was saying is that France HAS the easiest group. They face Switzerland, Togo and South Corea. Switzerland sucks, Togo sucks extremely, and South Corea was only a lucky team in 2002. Remember in 1994, they were considered the weakest team in the whole world cup.

Portugal has Angola (much better than Togo), Iran (not very good, but on level) and Mexico (better than any team in France's group except France).

Only Germany can compete, facing Ecuador, Poland and Costa Rica, but I think even that group is harder for Germany.

1998 - France deserved to win the championship. But some pesimists like to say that Croatia should have beaten France in semi finals. But we were also kind of lucky when beating the Netherlands for the 3rd place. If you watch the perfection of achieving our goals in that match (?uker and Prosine?ki), it was like "that perfect shots have to be tried cca 150 times to make it that perfect like ?uker's direct spin kick through legs of defender and around van der Saar, or kicking back turned (Prosine?ki) by intuition between both legs of the two world's best payed defenders at that time who played for the Netherlands! Suker and Prosine?ki had one try, they both make it a score and we defended ourselves the whole second half of the match, and succeded. That was hell of a game YEAH! :D

In my opinion Netherlands' team was the only which also should deserve the championship in 1998. They played awesome, and they are (for me) the big favorites for this championship (with Brasil).

I was thinking about what we talked some years ago with Akoss :
30th september 1956, Soviet Union tanks leave Budapest. Revolution is starting.
2nd October, Hungarian reporters write in French newspapers to ask for France help in front of Soviet Union to find back their freedom. France didn't want to do anything.
4th of October, Soviet tanks come back into Budapest, killing numerous people and stopped the "revolution". Hungarians, like all other Soviet dominated countries, will have to wait for Perestro?ka (M. Gorbatchev) to find back freedom progressively.

In 1920, it was not only France, but also UK and Italy that forced the Empire of Austria and Hungaria to be dismantled.

Quote from: "Usrin"And who played the most amazing (and most effective) football on World Championships so far? Our Czech brothers! Congratulations, thanks for this beautiful evening! Dicksucker Yankees... :-D
As I told before, Czech team will go far in this WC. They play really good. USA are as crappy as ever, they got what they deserved, and I hope they will finish last in their group.

Quote from: "Chulk"Mexico is not as bad as everyone thinks. I think they'll beat Portugal if Portugal doens't take them seriously. Mexico is very high in the FIFA Ranking
FIFA ranking doesn't mean anything. This is WC ! Everything can happen.
Look at history : there is often an outsider in semi-finals : Croatia in 1998, South Korea (with a lot of referee's help in quarter-final versus Spain :x ) in 2002 for example.
But Mexico beating Portugal... Mmmm, it won't happen.

Quote from: "BonzaiJoe"Portugal's group is weaker if you count all 4 teams, because France is a stronger team than Portugal, but what I was saying is that France HAS the easiest group. Angola is better than Togo, right. But Iran is even weaker than South Korea. Switzerland is same level as Mexico I think.
I told that France group is 2nd easiest because France always have problems versus Switzerland. I don't know why, maybe it's because numerous Switzerland players play in French clubs and so they know the French football. They always forced France to play different than usual, they can make our players loose their concentration. Portugal won't have that kind of problem versus Mexico.

For Alain and Kryss:
  Yes, in 98 france had a great time, like others;
  Paraguai and Croacia would win if the lucky was by their side, but it was by france side. It was an equal game, anyone could won that match, like brasil and holand, for example;
Still about 98: Im sure that the history that was telled here was a huge joke: that nike had buyed the tittle from brasil for france, because ronaldo was sponsored by nike, and "had" an epillepsi attack (im sure the word its not like that, but its ok ;)), and blablablabla...
Last comment about 98: I congrat France for that tittle, BUT france was not very superior than alot of others teams, AND I hate france guts ever since

Still about France: You all seem very optimistic, but dont forget about the favouritism in 2002, the biggest shame for france and argentina. And yes, I was very happy about it, hahaha

France plays a nice, beautifull and ofennsive football, that should be allways the way to play. I was a little disapointed about the last 2 friendly matchs, and if france play like that, you dont deserve to win

now I have to lunch very quick, I will attack some more later

I dont think so. Switzerland is the biggest underdogged team in this tournament. they are coming back from nowhere at all (france virtually eliminated it in qualifications and hardly and they qualified vs turkey 4-2 at home with a vengeance and a dogfight in the locker rooms) They will probably reach the 1/4 finals...

Quote from: "vamo"Koller from Chzech Rep maybe will be injuried until the end of the championship.

very good news for us all teams :)

Quote from: "krys"Switzerland is same level as Mexico I think.
well, mexico team is one of the best team in the world, its fourth in the nations rankings we beat them 1-0 as a preparation, we do 0-0 against switzerland in the world cup. they are the same level.

TOGO? where is that?  Life expectancy at birth (in years): 53.43 Number of internet users: 50,000 (2002)

south korea? we'll practice midget tossing with them.

Switzerland in the quarter finals? I must laugh...

If they manage to beat Togo or South Corea, which I highly doubt, though it is certainly possible, they face Spain in the 1/8 finals, or alternatively Ukraine. They have no chance.

I must say you are very optimistic Alain, but that can be refreshing, because most people take sorrows in advance.

I predict that France will lose in the 1/8 finals, which is a better result than in 2002.

But we are happy that we didn't let Brasil play their game, we also could have scored several times... unfortunately our captain was injured and the goal 2 minutes later was a result of our new order on the field... Where was Ronaldo, did he play? Hm...;)

As I said before : Ronaldo is crappy.
Nice match between Brasil and Croatia anyway. Croatia played very well, but Brasilian forwards are just too good and each of them can score whenever, like Kaka did. That's why Croatia lost, but a draw would have been more fair. Hopefully, France don't have Croatia in his group, because we would have lost 2-0 versus them.

Quote from: "BonzaiJoe"I predict that France will lose in the 1/8 finals, which is a better result than in 2002.
I predicted it too. Even if we qualified (1st or 2nd), France team is too slow (they proved it again yesterday) to overtake Spain or Ukraine.

I also predicted the draw with Switzerland. They know French football too much. Combined with strange rebounds (ball had no speed, maybe the lack of humidity) and high temperature, this made a useless and boring match.

Some infos to learn from this match with Switzerland :
- Cisse's speed will be missed during this WC... :( Bloody training matches : 2002 => Pires and Zidane were injured just before WC ; 2006 : Cisse. Pfff... Anyway, France is not so unlucky : Serbian team is now only 21 instead of 23 because 2 players are injured and can't be replaced because Serbia already played a WC match.
- 4-3-2-1 with Henry followed by Wiltord and Ribery is not the scoring machine I imagined :?
- Ribery is not ready yet to start a match. This confirmed my original thinking about him : he should enter in the last half, when his speed and freshness can make a difference. At the beginning of a match, his small speed advantage is not enough. He doesn't have Cisse's speed.

Why I remain confident for France qualification for 1/8 final : last 2 matches of France will take place in the evening, not in the afternoon. So high temperatures will not be a problem, especially against Togo who do not care at all about high temperatures.

Quote from: "CTG"This World Crap is really poor in goals...  :?

that's very good for teams like france and brasil, which defenses are unbelievably strong and which goals only come from... the forwards! teams like germany can score with any player. thats good, but teams like germany will lose against team like france, brasil, italy or... ECUADOR!!! which is really strong in defending. 56%   Possession   44% against poland and... 0-2 victory!!!

QuoteBonzaiJoe wrote:

I predicted it too.

I see france and brasil are the stronger defenses in this tournament, and france will make it home to the finals

QuoteEven if we qualified (1st or 2nd), France team is too slow (they proved it again yesterday) to overtake Spain or Ukraine.

also, france can intercept balls from the attack (ribery, zidane) intercept balls from the middle (vieira, makelele) and recover balls from behind (sagnol)

and when its recovered, it goes in front of switzerland goalkeeper incredibly fast. France had to focus on scoring, and switz had to focus on a  1-9 (or an even more cautious "all switz on the TV screen" variante) version dense defense. switz almost scored once (a free kick with too much french on the wall) and france almost score during all the match!!! five offsides for france zero for switz, four corners for france one for switz

france seemed to play slow? (well you cannot run very fast with two people hanging on each of your legs) because of the opposition: a team that know us by heart, awkwardly trying to slow us down sticking to the plan, with no gear on the game, a team that tried to permanently disable zidane with a plan (the plan was two-three players knitting a net around zidane and one player sacking zidane when he gets the ball) makelele with a plan, sagnol with a plan and apparently they had no plan against RIBERY which unleashed really really nasty messy scoring situation in front of  ZUBERBUEHLER (thanks to his defence and not to his talents, one of the few goals who will not get a single goal in the world cup) in general no team can play faster against 0-10 defenses like greece '04, italy 1901-2006 or norway '96-'98, or scotland '02 or... switzerland '06

on counter attacking, it was one vs 3 or two vs 6 situations... no way.

something for france to play better on all attacking formation? hint! bench abidal

QuoteRibery is not ready yet to start a match.

Ribery is world cup ready. his play is just very much team oriented. he could not make nobody score against switz. in other matches he will make somebody score. eventually he will score himself, and possibly several times in the same match. ribery is always benched, he has not a starter role yet... he didnt play the second half, because saha changed him. thats very good turnover decision. two UNKNOWN players with the same role, help to score or score, but with different playing styles. very annoying for switz.

Quotelast 2 matches of France will take place in the evening, not in the afternoon. So high temperatures will not be a problem, especially against Togo who do not care at all about high temperatures.

great analysis la th?orie des climats de rousseau

QuoteIf they manage to beat Togo or South Corea, which I highly doubt, though it is certainly possible, they face Spain in the 1/8 finals, or alternatively Ukraine. They have no chance.

hence the underdogging. well togo and corea are scared switz will destroy them. france was scared, and spain will be scared (a crap team with a crap play that can end second in its group) and destroyed denmark was invited in the last minute in euro 92 and won with a team the same plan than switz all out defence. switz are dream killers, they will use any nasty means to win matches (even hands against head like maradona in the last minutes of a game!)

wow happy switz was not against france in 1/8 finals :)

IM PROUD OF FRANCE!

Quote from: "Mislav"DOAH!!! Congratulations to Brasil first of all!

But we are happy that we didn't let Brasil play their game, we also could have scored several times... unfortunately our captain was injured and the goal 2 minutes later was a result of our new order on the field... Where was Ronaldo, did he play? Hm...;)

However, it was a great surprise to hear our fans oversounding the Brasilians in the Olympiastadium

We're through the group :)

Well, it was kind of a weak game. Maybe Croatia have team to go far. Prso is talented. Your captain is a warrior, and babic was good someday and have the experience to share. Klasnic could score in that strong and direct shoot, and the other foward its in the same level as him. Dont forget to score (like france :)) because without some goals nobody can win!

About the croatians fans oversounding, it was expected because all the brasilians in germany are rich people that dont have the football fan?s kind of act, they are just tourists.

First round was a little weak, but now the nervosism of the players will settle down and they will play theirs best!

First came his act of contrition for saying that opposition leader Viktor Orb?n should "shut his mouth." Then, barely a day later, the PM was forced to retract a wisecrack he made saying that the national football team had fought with "death-defying courage" against the "Arab terrorists," by which he apparently meant the Saudi squad that tied Hungary in a "pathetic" 0-0 match last week.

Serbians - what a disaster! What the hell happened ?

Kezman is supposed to be a decent player, like stankovic and others... :smt078

some explications:
- The son of the couch abandoned the team just before the beggining of the World Cup;
- Arguing was constant;
- The couch didnt bring petkovic, who is (maybe) the best player of servia, just because they argued long ago;
- the goalkeeper was somehow not welcome anymore inside the group after the separation of servia and montenegro;
- I dont like them (what allways cause bad luck to anyone  :lol: );

well, all that I had obtained in the news(except the last one ;)), so...

That is what happens with a messed up team :!:

Finally an interesting group!

1 ITA 1 1 0 3-1 4
2 CZE 1 0 1 3-2 3
3 GHA 1 0 1 2-2 3
4 USA 0 1 1 1-4 1

Last round:

Italy - Czech Republic
Ghana - USA

Possible results in points:

ITA-CZE 7-3, 5-4, 4-6
GHA-USA 6-1, 4-2, 3-4

100% qulification

Italy needs a single point.
Czechs and Ghana need a victory.
USA has no sure chance without the other match.

Depending from the other match:

- Italy qualifies with a lost match (by one goal) too, if Ghana can't win AND USA can't knock out Ghana by many goals.

- Czech Republic qualifies with draw, if Ghana can't win AND USA can't knock out Ghana by many goals.

- Ghana qualifies with a draw if Czech Republic loses OR Italy will be knocked out by 3 goals.

- USA qualifies with a victory if Italy wins/Czech Republic or USA wins by many goals/USA wins by many goals and ITA-CZE is a draw.

Chances (as for me):

Italy - Czech Republic 30% - 40% - 30% (2% that CZE wins by many goals, enough for USA)
Ghana - United States 35% - 35% - 30% (3% that USA can knock out Ghana by enough goals)

Qualification chances by CTG:

Italy ~90%
Czech Republic ~55%
Ghana ~45%
USA ~10%

The most interesting group so far.

3 Trinidad and Tobago 0 1 1 0-2 1

Trinidad and Tobago - Paraguay (4-0, 2-1, 1-3): 20% - 45% - 35%

Sweden qualifies, if:

- gets at least a single point
- loses but T&T can't keep up with their goal balance

Trinidad and Tobago qualifies, if:

- they win, Sweden loses and goal balance is fair enough for them

Chances to qualify:

Sweden ~95%
Trinidad and Tobago ~5%

Group D

1 Portugal 2 0 0 3-0 6
2 Mexico 1 1 0 3-1 4
3 Angola 0 1 1 0-1 1
4 Iran 0 0 2 1-5 0

Last round:

Angola - Iran (4-0, 2-1, 1-3): 20% - 50% - 30%

Mexico qualifies, if:

- makes a single point against Portugal
- loses but Angola can't keep up with their goal balance

Angola qualifies, if:

- they win (by many goals) and Mexico loses (by many goals)

Chances:

Mexico ~95%

Brasil - Japan (9-1, 7-2, 6-4): 50% - 35% - 15%
Australia - Croatia (6-1, 4-2, 3-4): 25% - 40% - 35%

Sure qualification:

Australia has to win.
Croatia and Japan has no independent chance to qualify.

Australia qualifies, if:

- they steal a point from Croatia and Japan can't beat Brasil by many goals

Croatia qualifies, if:

- they beat Australia and Japan can't knock out Brasil

Japan qualifies, if:

- they beat Brasil (by many goals) and CRO-AUS is a draw OR Croatia wins but can't keep up with their goal balance

Chances:

Australia ~65%
Croatia ~30%
Japan ~5%

france must stop playing football, tonight it seemed like waterloo battle:  eleven zombie finished the match.

probabilities: france is out (probably a defeat against togo, yes, the team with no coach and no salary)

korea and switzerland go to 1/8 finals. I will have a very bad day tomorrow, and a very bad week also, and probably a very bad month, well I will not watch football now.

French team is old, that's not new. So after 1 hour we miss speed.
France dominated 1st half, but could only score once (one other goal valid was not validated by referee...). That's an efficiency problem.
But main problem is coaching. 60 minutes => Wiltord replaced by Ribery. Logical. But Ribery was the only one running ! Henry tried to help but as main forward et couldn't use his talent, Koreans locked him.

What should have been done is to modify tactic plan to 4-3-3, with Henry at the left to gain speed, while Ribery stays at the right. And Trezeguet should have entered for the last 20 minutes as main forward. That's what Trezeguet is good at : be main forward and play 20 minutes. 10 minutes to see where he can bypass defenders, and 10 minutes to score. And after he does nothing else.

Remember Euro Championship 2000, final match versus Italy. Lemerre coaching was perfect. Domenech coaching was stupid. If France can't score, this was because Koreans understood how to handle Henry. Domenech is a professionnal, he should have seen it like I did, and then modify his tactic plan. Even before Korean goal (what a stupid goal it was). Domenech started to think after Korean goal, making Dhorasoo enter for 10 minutes. But this guy is crappy player, all he did was making a fault that almost lead to a 2nd Korean goal. And finally Trezeguet entered for 2 minutes. Useless. Bad coaching, old team.

As I said before, France won't go further than 1/8 final.
Switzerland will beat Togo tonight => 4 points for Switzerland and Korea, 2 points to France and 0 for Togo.
Winning 1-0 versus togo may even not be sufficient to be qualified. Korea has a +2 goal-average versus Togo. If Switzerland does the same, then France will have to score at least 3 goals more than Togo.

Anyway, Domenech will have to modify his plan versus Togo as Zidane and Abidal will be suspended for this match. We will probably see a 4-4-2.
Dhorasoo will begin the match (not good idea, but that's almost sure because Domenech likes him), and maybe Ribery too. As forward, it will be Henry and Malouda I think. Wiltord will not begin the match. That's my guess for team according to Domenech coaching.

Whatever the team, France played better versus Korea than versus Switzerland, but only for 1st half. Will it be sufficient to overtake Togo ? Not even sure...

We picked the ugly group, with koreans and switzerland. just the teams with a big rivalry history to make our morale bad, bad and bad.

what's more it seems that referees steal us goals, penalties and zidane and abidal. its just fine. just fine.

That's done : Switzerland 2-0 Togo.
Goal-average for both South Korea and Switzerland is +2 now.
A draw between then could be enough for them both to be qualified if France does only +1 goal-average winning.

Anything else than a huge victory versus Togo could make France sure to be qualified, even if Koeans and Swiss do a draw.

A French victory and whatever result but a draw in the other match and France will be qualified 2nd behind the one that wins the other match.

So, main probability is a France qualified 2nd, and a 1/8 final versus Sapin, as I feared from the beginning. And this will lead to a Spanish victory 3-0 or 3-1.

Anything but a victory for France versus Togo means direct elimination for France.

2 SCR 1 1 0 3-2 4
3 FRA 0 2 0 1-1 2
4 TOG 0 0 2 1-4 0

Last round:

Switzerland - South Corea (7-4, 5-5, 4-7): 25% - 50% - 25% (yes, they are crap)
France - Togo (5-0, 3-1, 2-3): 50% - 40% - 10% (France wins by 1 goal: 20%, 2 goals: 15%, more goals 15%)

Sure qualification:

Switzerland and South Corea need a victory.
France has to beat Togo by more than one goal to stay alive.

Depending on the other match...

Switzerland qualifies, if:

- they play a draw and France can't win by more than 2 goals
- they lose but France can't win

South Corea qualifies, if:

- they play a draw and France can't win by more than 1 goal
- they lose but France can't win

France qualifies, if:

Chances:

Switzerland ~85%
South Corea ~70%

Ukraine - Tunesia (6-1, 4-2, 3-4): 40% - 35% - 25%

Sure qualifications

Ukraine must win.
Tunesia and Saudi Arabia has no clear way to 16.

Possibilities

Ukraine qualifies, if:

- they make a draw and Saudi Arabia can't beat Spain by 5 goals (LOL)

Tunesia qualifies, if:

- they beat Ukraine and Saudi Arabia can't beat Spain with more goals

Saudi Arabia qualifies, if:

- they beat Spain by five goals and the other match is a draw (LOL) OR they beat Spain and Tunesia beats Ukraine but with worse result

Chances

Ukraine ~75%
Tunesia ~25%

Ooohh.... It should have been the best birthday present for me - Croatia passing the group! Yesterday, the whole city of Zagreb, all Croatia was on the streets watching the match! I've never seen so much people doing the same thing! Young, old, fat, skinny, dumb, granmamas, bank robbers, everybody watched the game!

Maybe we lost the chance for second place already against Japan where we dominated. Australia was really good, the coach must be great. Everytime we scored, we stopped playing, it's more psychological problem of our team. And there are some other problems. Australia deserved to go on. But after all, Australian team has 7 (seven!) Croatian players, Mark Viduka is just one of them :)

Brasil - finally showed the beauty of the game. One goal more and Ronaldo is the No.1!

but Ronaldo plays in the era that none team is REALLY horrible. The equality is more often. Back then(1958) it was comon a game ended like 6x0; 7x0; 5x0 and so on. It was frequently, not rare like nowadays. Many games was like sparring. Just look brasil scores matches in 58 (btw, when we were champions for the first time)
But now, everyone knows how to defend, how to put eleven men play like a barrier, everybody runs three times more than that time, every defender hit three times harder than that time. Today its common if a player from korea or togo or trinidad and tobago plays in italy or england, like a major and important player. In 58 many players from many contries, wasnt even professional players.

Im just saying some facts, I dont wanna say who is best and this kind of stuff. Its not a france player x brasilian player duel. Just for curiosity manners, here in brasil many sports jornalist questions if pele would play like he did back then if he plays today kind of matches/games...

In the last "x" wc it was really rare for a player to score more than 6 or 7 goals in the same championship, and its not because everybody is worst than fontaine    btw, platini, zidane, henry and maybe cisse are better than fontaine :!:

Just since the beginning of current WC :
Argentina 6-0 Serbia
Spain 4-0 Ukraine
Ukraine 4-0 Saudi Arabia
Brasil 4-1 Japan
Germany 4-2 Costa Rica

Confederation Cup 2005 :
Brasil 4-1 Argentina

WC 2002 :
Brasil 4-0 China
Brasil 5-2 Costa Rica
Portugal 4-0 Poland
Germany 8-0 Saudi Arabia

Are all losers teams of amateurs ? Saudi Arabia and China are, Costa Rica is half-pro, but other losers are professionnal teams.
As you see, it's always possible nowadays to score 4 goals or more per match. If you play good and efficient football.
Too many teams think more of "keeping the score as is" once they lead, that's their mistake, that's why nowadays there are less huge victories.

True, it's difficult to score versus 11 defenders like Switzerland played versus France. But most Togo players play in French or Italian 4th divisions, or in Belgium 3rd division. It's not exactly what could be called a good experience... If France scores less than 3 goals to Togo, it's a shame.

Some numbers of WC 1958 (I loved this wc :))

Fran?a 7 x 3 Paraguai
... Paraguai = south-american?s Switzerland of football. This would never occur today. Remember 98 ? Or 2002 or 2006.

Quarter Final
Fran?a 4 x 0 Irlanda do Norte
... okay, its just an odd scoreboard for quarter-final, but can happen today (maybe).

Semifinal
Brasil 5 x 2 Fran?a
... can you imagine this kind of scoreboard today ? in the semifinal ???

3rd place
Fran?a 6 x 3 Alemanha O.C.
... talking about un-common scoreboard, heh ?! ;)

Just look the scoreboard for the final:
Brasil 5 x 2 Su?cia

Another "weird"(not back then) scoreboard:
Tchecoslov?quia 6 x 1 Argentina

I know its very cool to see Argentina with one goal and the other team with six, hahaha... but anyone can imagine this happen nowadays :?

(Croatia got around 8 cards in the last 30 minutes of the last match, so I don't think we play dirty. It were the nervs in the last minutes. ?imuni? alone got 3 yellow cards and a red one in 25 minutes haha! The refery was miserable, so many mistakes, many of his mistakes were good for Croatia, but it's a shame, such a refery should not judge on a world cup!

Swiss?? World champions! :)

defence HELPS to wins the matches. with no goal, no win at all.
btw, zagallo agrees with you. he is famous because he allways says: "A draw is an excellent result!"   ... detail: couching brasil against weak teams, hehehe

Equador will never beat netherlands. Not yet, anyway...
Swiss beating Italy with their(italian) strategy ? I dont think so... Swiss may play ugly and with all men back, but italy can do it much more uglier and with much more men back

my tips for 1/8 final

GERMANY - Sweden (Hosts will win with some referee's help)
ARGENTINA - Mexico (I won't comment on this match)
ENGLAND - Ecuador (Easy for England)
Portugal - NETHERLANDS (Neth will win because Por's GK sucks)
ITALY - Australia (Australia will defend strongly but Italy will win anyway)
SWITZERLAND - Ukraine (Swiss will win because Ukr is really bad)
BRASIL - Ghana (Hope to be mistaken)
SPAIN - France (Spain has to prove they are as good as they pretend)

in the quarter-final brasil will play against spain or france - no time to choose an opponent, but I prefer Spain. France is much more complicated, and this good moment spain is having its ilusionary, the end is near.

about national team tradition: france is one team. spain is two or three individuals playing for themselves and eight players... watching. long time ago we used to say, spain would prefer to organize a world cup of CLUBS, better than a world cup of nations... and still it's true today... because the national team is not considered the supreme transcendance for the spaniards.

I cannot understand that, i live in france, a centralized country. they live in  a sort of small united states of spain, formed of split countries...

italy switzerland

england portugal

Brasil France

this is a no surprise team world cup. well three teams are surprises in this ranking: france, switzerland and england. the rest is the best.

and i like when france is not considered in the best :) spain does not know what to do against france, so they will play ball and they will be stopped by france. this is a draw game.

add ribery (muslim power!) and you get a neat 2-0.

Quote from: "Chulk"Portugal really surprised me! I really thought Netherlands would win. And England's victory was not as easy as I predicted.
Portugal had talent but had no collective play.
Netherlands had collective play but a lack of talent and experience.

Beginning was promising, but things get worse and worse. 2nd half was ugly, no football, only one fault after another. What a shame. All yellow cards were justified. Some say referee was too strict and "killed" the match, I disagree. He did the job but the players AND their coaches killed the match. Portugal coach was as nervous as his players, and Netherlands coach was too passive and let his players do all these stupid faults. Twice Netherlands played with 1 more player than Portugal, but instead of calming down the play and restart to play their collective football, they continued to do stupid faults.

Most Netherlands players are young and this could be a reason why they acted this way, but their gaolkeeper and their coach should have push them back to reason. They didn't and let the match go worse and worse. Netherlands elimination is more due to coaching problem than anything else.

Portugal was not better. Look at Figo for example : he is an experimented player, but he was as stupid as all other players during this match. but when you saw Portugal coach go insulting Van Basten, for sure I can understand that they were all so stupid. Their coach nervosity probably made them be that stupid during 2nd half.

90 minutes play, not even 30 minutes of real football. This not what is expected for a World cup match. Now, I hope Portugal to loose versus England, because what they show yesterday is not worthy of a team that pretend to reach semi-finals. I don't like much England team, and they didn't play good versus Ecuador. But, at least, they respected their opponent and didn't do such a shamy match as Netherlands and Portugal.

The game was suberb. No football in most part, but it was eletric; excited to the very last minute. What a battle! literaly!

Robben and van persie are two great players. watch their evolution in the next years; promissing...

Scolari was not nervous like his players. He was inflamed, burning with the ferocity of the game. What a game! His luck is legendary here in brasil, and now, in the whole world, hehehe

The lack of fair play of netherlands put the whole stadium to cheer for portugal, and this is not a tiny little detail. :!:

yeah, you were wrong. i won a few euros with their victory, because i knew the nederlands are not an international level team.

Quote from: "vamo"Robben and van persie are two great players. watch their evolution in the next years; promissing...

yeah, you are wrong, they are as promising as overmars and de boer brothers (over who? de boer what?). Van basten, bergkamp and cocu are franchise players. THEY are greater player than "cheeky cross" or "always fake the center" van persie and "me myself and robben" robben

Quote from: "krys"Portugal had talent but had no collective play.
Netherlands had collective play but a lack of talent and experience.

yeah, you are wrong, portugal is one of the more collective team of this tournament, on the same level as france, brasil and argentina. and indeed they are the most experienced group at the highest international level (semi finals, and finals) just behind france.

and nederland is an inexperienced team with several people fighting to play the same free kick (van persie and kuyt) and a total lack of collective spirit. albeit the absences of strong individualities like davis, seedorf and kluivert.

QuoteSome say referee was too strict and "killed" the match, I disagree. He did the job but the players AND their coaches killed the match.

IVANOV? TOO STRICT????? this is the most laxist referee everybody ever saw on a world cup... He just wasn't strict at all.

what started all the mess? he should have given a yellow card (or probably a red one) when boulahrouz kicked the thigh of cristiano ronaldo, injuring him out (of the world cup?)

instead of that, he just didn't whistle at all (i wonder if he whistled for a free kick against boulahrouz)

then portugueses just saw cristiano ronaldo injured and asked for punishment by themselves.

then it ended in a furball. forget all the big salaries and the top models... you could see only twenty (nineteen?) men loaded with testosterone.

let's talk about real football: DEFENCE.

today is the best day for defence because australia (eleven jasons on the pitch) italy (eleven azzuri behind the ball) and switzerland (the "catenaccio" tactic system is their original patented trademark) are playing.

yeah... switzerland invented il catenaccio. you new it?

Quote from: "Catenaccio From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia"Catenaccio could have originated from the verrou or "chain" system invented by Austrian coach Karl Rappan. As coach of Switzerland, Rappan played a defensive sweeper just ahead of his goalkeeper in the 1930s and 1940s. Nereo Rocco's Padova, in the 1950s, pioneered the system in Italy where it would be used again by the AC Milan team of the early 1960s.

Rappan's "verrou" system, proposed in 1932 when coach of Servette, was implemented with 4 fixed defenders, who were charged to apply a strict man-to-man marking, plus a playmaker in the middle of the field who plays the ball together with two midfield wings.

Rocco's tactic, often referred to as the "real" catenaccio, was shown first in 1947 with Triestina: the most common mode of operation was a 1-3-3-3 with a strictly defensive team approach. With catenaccio, Triestina finished the Serie A tournament in a surprising second place. Some variations proposed instead to apply different schemas, such as 1-4-4-1 and 1-4-3-2.

... is my favorite tactical scheme.
how do you like the catenaccio?

The pitch looks incredibly "spherical", like a mountain, like in those football cartoons you like to read all the time... you run up the field during a very long time, it seems its eternity. you shoot so strong that the ball is oval when it flies to barthez. barthez first stops the ball, then his feet lose contact with the ground and he falls back into his own goal... IT'S FANTASTIC!!! SPAIN GOES TO THE QUARTER FINAL!!!

ger arg ger

ita ukr ita

There is an opposition in this 1/4 between the realist and the joga bonito football. germany and south american football is not realist enough. I would compare the paths of germany, brasil and argentina in this world cup to a gentle walk on the beach, watching the girls... happy happy happy.

england, ukrania, france, portugal and italy crawled their way to the 1/4! they had only bad luck, bad luck and bad luck, they could not play at their real level.

but in this second group, opposed to the group of the easy riders, i see another opposition: france and portugal are the TERMINATORS.

portugal showed how much the SCOLARI is a mastermind felon against the nederlands traps traps traps kill kill kill. his team sent the message to the world of football: whatever it takes "we'll crawl our way to the final and cut off ya bowls!"

france just showed how much the DOMENECH is a mastermind against the ugly, weak, old fashion, unefficient and awkward... JOGA BONITO.

Sapnish newspaper wrote yesterday morning that Spain-France will be Zidane's jubilee. They were wrong.
Spain started the competition at high level versus Ukraine, and then strated slightly to decrease. France did the opposite : weak and shy beginning versus Switzerland, then improvement each match.
I was suprised by France victory, but, of course, happy to see it. :D

Versus Switzerland and South Korea, only Makelele played his role, Viera was alseep.
Versus Togo, it was the opposite : Viera woke up but Makelele was the like a ghost, not really here.
Versus Spain, they were both playing their best level, and Spain never managed to make an attack. Only on corners they were dangerous.

As said before : defense helps to win the matches. True, very true. French defense playing at his best can be even better then Italian one. France got 2 goals against : one very lucky and due to the only defense mistake made by French defenders versus South Korea, and one penalty versus Spain.
Now, French players are overmotivated, and Brasilian players will still have final of 1998 in mind. That means a psychological advantage for France.
Goalkeeper : Barthez and Coupet are among the best of the World, Dida isn't.
Defense : French one is much better than Brasilian one. no doubt with that.
Midfield : it depends. If Viera AND Makelele both play at their best, like versus Spain, this is French advantage. Else, it's a Brasilian advantage.
Forward : Brasil is the best, such an efficiency. Such talent. Ronaldo only had 1 goal occasion, and he scored. Ghana had more goal occasions than Brasil, but failed to find the goal. That's the Brasilian's strengh : numerous talented forwards, all of them can score at anytime and make the difference.
Overall, I think now that France still have a chance versus Brasil. France had difficult matches and managed to make it through. Brasil had no difficult match and may have problems versus French defense.

Let me be optimistic : Viera and Makelele will stay at their best like versus Spain, and France will win 2-1 versus Brasil. One Brasilian goal first by ronaldo or Kaka, and then France pressure over Brasilian defense will make Brasil loose his football and be beaten. One goal from Henry, one from Ribery. Junhino's entrance 20 minutes before the end of the match will not modify the score.

JOGA MALITO!!! 4, maybe 5 zeroooooooooo! go home brasil, go home! ronaldinho learned football on the bench in the paris saint germain!!! ronaldo never scored a single goal against france!!! the only brazilian who ever scored against france is... roberto carlos on a free kick!!!!

believe me, juninho must start the match on the pitch if you want to win, because this is the only chance for brasil to score! remember! ROBINHO IS OUT!!!

I hope:

Brasil - France 3 (or more, in my best dreams a lot more)-0

Realistic:

Brasil - France 2-1

Quote from: "al il professore"on saturday it will be a world champion against the world champion. A rivalry between the last and the penultimo.

a match for the eternal glory of zinedine zidane
And on friday it will be the final match, deciding everything for Mexico '86 and Italy '90. We're tied, let's see what happens. If Germany defence is a crap as it was so far, we will easily win. But maybe their Side Backs (Lahm and the other guy) won't attack so much to keep an eye on Argentina's forwards.

My tips for 1/4 finals

Germany 1 - 3 ARGENTINA
ITALY 2 - 0 Ukraine (Easy for Italy as Ukraine is a shitty team)
England 0 - 1 PORTUGAL (The same tactical game done against the Neths)
BRASIL 2 - 1 France (This is a hard match. Hope to be mistaken!!!)

QuoteBrasil - France 2-1
QuoteBRASIL 2 - 1 France (This is a hard match. Hope to be mistaken!!!)

france will beat brasil the EASIEST WAY. whatever it takes, if joga bonito scores first, joga malito will score back so very fast you will pray god it stops quickly.

In fact, I am more focused on the semifinals than on the quarter finals now.

england (a nightmare) or portugal (a nicer nightmare)

two teams that doesn't play ball but know very well how to play the man.

england is the dirty dozen, they are the world champions in head tackles. eleven "materazzi"... hopefully, france will have eleven mazerati (ten? if vieira, zidane or ribery get a card on the quarter final?). and we beat them in euro 2004, so they hate us.

portugal got three red cards in the same match, something that never happens in civilized countries. they have the finest penalty zone diver on earth with luis figo and they got to the finals in the euro 2004...

not so bad that thuram, makelele and zidane came back from an international retirement earlier in 2005 :)

Quote from: "al il professore"portugal got three red cards in the same match
Versus Netherlands ? No, they got only 2.

Lemme tip for 1/4 finals :

Germany 4-3 Argentina (after extended time, result at the end of regular time will be 2-2), because Germany plays at home and is always regular at this level of competition.

Italy 1-0 Ukraine, with another lucky penalty for Italy. this match will be the same as Switzerland-Ukraine : 10 defenders on each time. Not football I like, but that's Italian way.

England 1-2 Portugal, even if Portugal will miss important players due to red cards they got

Brasil 1-2 France, as I told on a previous post

This will lead to Semi-finals :

Germany 1-0 Italy, advantage for Germans who know how to handle teams like Italy. Germans are often crappy versus Irebic or South American teams, but they are always good versus European teams.

Portugal 0-2 France Portugal player almost all have aty least 1 yellow card. With one more during 1/4 finals, half their top team will be missing, so they will become easy prey for France if France still plays like versus Spain

3rd place match :

Italy 1-1 Portugal, Italy wins after penalty session

Final match :

Germany 2-1 France, France has a psycological problem versus Germany since more than 20 years now, like brasil have with France since 1998.

well, kryss got optimistic after the france victory against spain!

- france is a decent team (dont like to say that :oops: );

it was no surprise, so lets stay a little realistic - beating spain its not a fantastic achievment

Im not calm with the fact that we have to beat france. Its a very complicated match, but I still think brasil will pass.

NOOOOOOOOOO SPAIN IS NOT A FOOTBALL COLLECTIVE TEAM.... SPAIN IS NOT A TEAM AT ALL FOOTBALL AT THIS LEVEL IS NOT A PROBLEM OF GUTS, its a matter of intense collective relationships. i already explained that they are not able to play together... there is already a permanent war inside the small mountain city of madrid to decide who is the best ever! atletico madrid, real, villareal, etc. all those small teams with individual players fight to get the title of "THE BEST FOOTBALL TEAM IN THE WORLD"

how can you build a collective spirit with such a clay? you cant, and you are unable to win a national trophy.

Quotefrance is a decent team (dont like to say that  );

HEY you remember 98? it will be the same, back with a vengeance: three goals and one from zidane. period. I don't like the way all brasilians speak about france in the interviews ( not the players in the selecao, the players in the selecao are very afraid about france, and respect them at their right level, except roberto carlos... hehe i remember his nutmeg in the second goal of zidane in 98)

HEY!!! JOE!!! REMEMBER 98?????????? IT WILL BE THE SAME!!!! BACK WITH A VENGEANCE!!!! THREE ZEROOOOOOO!!!!!!!

OLEEEEEE (like in the advertisement with brasil portugal in the locker rooms).

you like to dip your feet in the water to taste it before diving in a boiling water

brasil on saturday night is diving headlong in the boiling water.

WHAT??? hey, ronaldinho! the world cup has begun, you know? where are your achievements? zero goals? and you know that you will go home with zero goals??? what a shame!

ronaldo! are you still too fat? thanks god old thuram will run as fast as you can, but he is twice your age, what a shame!

kaka? only one lucky goal and that's it? juninho is clearly better than you and you still steal his place???

juninho??? he didn't play all the matches??? he is the best player/long shoot scorer/free kicker in brazil and he is on the bench??? what a shame!

roberto carlos? still always in attack whereas he should defend more?

cafu? the guy who doesnt give the ball to ronaldinho for the 4-0 against ghana, prefering to try a pathetic individualist shoot?

skid off dirty Germans! I like them as a nation, but I terribly hate their lucky and dirty football team. The referee was a disaster, his approach to the match was favouring the Germans, he killed the latin football with blowing the whistle for every little fault, especially if it was committed by Argentina. And 'surprisingly', he forgot to give a penalty to Argentina in the 89th minute, when Maxi Rodriguez felt off with the help of a German leg within the penalty area. It's ugly to see the Germans never pay for their mistake, there's no cost of their big defensive mistakes, the ball always bounces back to the Germans, or their opponents are lame (Crespo, around 70th minute). Btw I think the Argentinian coach made bad substitutions and chose bad tactics after the Argentinian goal: they played too defensively, leaving the chance to score only to counterattacks. In a nutshell, weak German teams with the help of their fans and the referee, advanced to the semi final, quite undeservedly.

Italy had a good match at last, and Luca Toni scored at last. 3-0 whitewash, they are my favourites against the weak German side in the semi final.

But 2 more quarter finals are to come this evening, my tips are:

England - Portugal 2-0 :(:(:(
Brazil - France 3-2 after extra time :(:(:(

Akoss I think you are heavily exaggerating!

First of all the german team is certainly not a weak team but instead played their worst game this world cup in this quaterfinal. It might be because Argentinia is very strong at controlling midfield but that does not change the fact the team is not weak.

Another point is that in a 120 minute game you can always blame the referee for this and that and if we take a calm look at the german match it's easy to say that there only happened few mistakes.99% of all football games see far more referee mistakes than this match. It's a fact.

Same with defensive errors. In a long game you will always have those! But there weren't more than usual.

The main reason Argentinia did not win is that they tried to defend the lead and when there was extratime they could not substitute any creative players anymore. They had Saviola Messi and Aimar on the bench who didn't play a single minute. That's the big mistake and not the referee!

And please try to be a bit more objective.. like my post for example ;)
And btw:Most of the teams are playing 'dirtier' than the german team.... take a look at the yellow/red card statistics and please don't begin with the ref please...

I mean you don't apply the same rules to everyone!
Please be honest:

If Hungary would have taken part this world cup and if Hungary had defeated Argentinia even if luckily on penalties would you have been talking about:

A)The dirty,lucky Hungarians

B)The great Heroes

The answer is pretty simple and I would like to see some honesty in the community.

Of course I would say that they are heroes! But that's why I'm not accepting your opinion about my opinion (that I'm biased). I'm not an Argentinian, I'm not a German... please, anybody else but an Argentinian or a German (you) tell me that I'm biased! Of course you're saying that the Germans are heroes and since you're a German, you can't (and can never) watch the match as a neutral football fan!
Title: World Cup 2006 - Germany (World Cup ONLY)
Post by: Argammon on July 01, 2006, 08:54:08 PM
First of all I am only 50% german.Second of all if you read my opinion about the game it doesn't really sound biased, does it?

I did not claim germany played Argentinia against the wall and I did not put a lot of emphasis on the fact that Argentina didn't have more goal scoring opportunities.Actually those are which tell you if a team is better or not.Just having control in midfield without barely creating any chance doesn't make you a superior team.

In my opinion the penalty shootout was fair because neither team proved it was superior enough against the other team in the regular time.Again I am talking about goalscoring opportunities and not ball possesion %.

But I do agree that Germany didn't play to well.A lot of things might have had an influence on that being for example:Weather,Argentinia = agressive and dominant in midfield,Respect,Overplayed players, bad day,Argentina=good team etc etc......

And what's more important and shows I am pretty objective is that I think Argentina should have won if it had used it's full potential. There were so many excellent players sitting on the bench.Have you seen Messi in Barcelona?I even thin Aimar is playing very good,at least in Valencia.
And if you don't let them play don't take out Riquelme! With an 1:0 lead you should try to keep control of the game which they had before instead of trying to defend the lead.Curiously the 15 minutes before the 1:1 where the strongest of germany...

I know most people are pretty biased when their nation is concerned but I'm don't think I am.

Quote from: "al il professore"believe me, juninho must start the match on the pitch if you want to win, because this is the only chance for brasil to score! remember! ROBINHO IS OUT!!!

I am sad to see thatcarlos alberto pareira had no real plan against france. hence the unbelievable domination of my favorite team, the national team of france. the team that make the world dream and cry.

during the match he ruled out juninho, the only brasilian to score (on a free kick, because brasilians didnt have the ball close enough to barthez goals to shoot)

and he ruled out cafu, one of his best players (i dont name him a defender, he is not a defender, just a player. lucio and juan are not defenders too, they are only heavy and awkward football players)

robinho is a super loved brasilian player from the brasilians only. he does not have any international level. he has no experience, he cannot play. ribery is a genius. he has the level without the experience. learn.

the same for adriano. he is a national championship level, not international.  he has no experience or talent, he cannot play at this level

ronaldinho has never had an intuition on what is COLLECTIVE PLAY. he does blind passing, but he is really blind on the game in general. he is blind. he plays for himself, he always played for himself. in the paris saint germain against marseille, he was the guy who won the match. on the barcelona fc, he is the man who makes the play. on an international level, you need an international level team. You dont want a team with strong individuals, that sort of team could win only a national championship. you want the best team in the world, formed of the multiplication of the best individuals in one country.

you dont want messi on your group. or ronaldinho. this kind of individuals could make win an international cup in the eighties. now it is ALL OUT DEFENCE that rules the field. talented individuals dont want to defend for the group. they want the group to defend for them. that is not very serious.

QuoteIf Hungary would have taken part this world cup and if Hungary had defeated Argentinia even if luckily on penalties would you have been talking about:

hungary has never won nothing in a world cup, and will probably never win a world cup, even if playing two hundred years they would always lose. this is a bad comparison.

QuoteWith an 1:0 lead you should try to keep control of the game which they had before instead of trying to defend the lead

you should, and france knows it well. I was very happy with the way france played against brasil in the end of the match. to save the lead. honestly, can you hear, all of you generations of stallin german bastards, the armageddon coming for you in berlin on the ninth of july? can you?

QuoteBrazil - France 3-2 after extra time

fresh, fresh extra fresh. my eleven terminators are extra fresh, they didn't play no extratime, they just mashed everything EASIEST WAY.

MISSION JOGA BONITO ACCOMPLISHED! i hope you didnt cry a lot, my dear brasilian friends, we the french people of football respect your divine football so much.

Post by: Krys TOFF on July 02, 2006, 01:50:06 AM
When I saw that Junhino would start the ?atch, I was afraid. He perfectly knows French football.

1st fifteen minutes of the match were 100% Brazilian. I was afraid to see Brasil 3-0 France at this moment, really.
Then, the match started to change hand and France started to decide the rythm of the game.

If Brazil had score during the first fifteen minutes, they would probably have won the match. Not sure, but probably. But once France scored, Brazil was over. As I said before, that's the psychological advantage France had versus Brasil. 1986, 1998 and now 2006 : the worst memories of Brasil.

I don't like Ronaldo particularly, but he was the best Brasilian tonight. The most dangerous. Ronaldhino started to be dangerous only at the end of the match.

Key of the match, once again : Viera and Makelele. And all French defenders behind them. Brasilian forwards can't score if they don't get a ball. First fifteen minutes were nightmare, but what a midfield control of French players after this awful beginning ! And Zidane, wow, some Brasilian moves he did ! Magical Zidane. This guy has so much technique and talent when he is motivated...!

I'd like to thank Spain : their newspaper aggressivity versus Zidane before Spain-France made him angry and back at his best. Before this match, France was the shadow of what it could have been. Now, France is back on top ! If all the players still play the same for the next 2 matches, then another World Championship title for France is really possible now. To be honest, I didn't believe it until the match versus Spain.

1st round : exit North America and Asia
1/8 final : exit Africa
1/4 final : exit South America
Now, it's Germany-Italy and Portugal-France. Old Europe still knows how to play efficient football. For sure, there's not the same "magic" moves like only South American players (and Zidane) can do. But it's a surprise not to see any south American country in top 4.

Germany-Italy : wow, what a match ! A final before the final, like Brasil-France was, like Germany-Argentina was too.
Not beautiful football, but so efficient sometimes. Germany plays at home, that's an advantage. But Italian defence is... is... awesome. Ask Ukraine players and they'll tell.
I hope to see an Italian victory, because France-Germany as a final... Argh ! Germany would have psychological advantage AND playing at home advantage. That may be too much for France.

Portugal-France ? France now is favorite. After beating Spain and Brasil, Portugal should not be harder than these two matches.
And after what I saw of Portugal versus England and versus Netherlands... I don't fear Portgual anymore. They were in final at home in European championship and they lost. They won't reach final versus France if French defence and midfield remain so efficient.
Also, so many Portugal players have a yellow card that almost all the team could not play the last match if they have another yellow card versus France. That's another problem for them. They will have to take care of that, and that will be an additionnal advantage for France.

Tips :
Germany 1-2 Italy (optimistic tip, Germany remains favorite but I would like not to see France-Germany in final)
Portugal 0-2 France (1 goal on each half, by Ribery and Henry)

Then :
Germany 3-1 Portugal (easily)
Italy 0-1 France (with many difficulties, maybe a Zidane goal again, as a jubilee).

you don't know football if you write that :) our national team is built of international talents. it's a foreign legion. there is twice much more black people in our national team and spaniards didnt like it... and with so many black people in our foreign legion, we can't lose a match. say no to racism. eternal shame on aragones. perhaps he will lose again against france in 2008. I hope so.

imagine the world cup final was FRANCE - ITALY (which is the most probable finals for me) our qualifications group for the euro 2008 in switzerland and osterreich will be... ROYAL!!!

why germany must lose? they are too weak. why they must win? miroslav klose is not polish. and the crime against battiston in sevilla in 1982 (24 years later the pain is still strong in france) must be punished.

if there is a final france germany (which is not so probable because of the weak level of german defence) germany can pay this last debt we have in football. la boucle serait boucl?e.

Also, so many Portugal players have a yellow card that almost all the team could not play the last match if they have another yellow card versus France. That's another problem for them. They will have to take care of that, and that will be an additionnal advantage for France.

france has yellow cards. vieira, zidane, thuram, ribery and sagnol. one of them get only one yellow card against the dirty portugueses... the team with the dirtiest reputation in the tournament, and no final for one of our team's fulcrum

I hope it will not be zidane. not because he can make us win the final, but just for history. it would be unfair.

True, very true.
Just like Laurent Blanc back in 1998. Leboeuf didn't deserved to play the final versus Brasil.

QuoteFans said Parreira should have used younger players like Robinho and Cicinho from the start.

"The only time the team played really well was against Japan with these (young) players, but no, Parreira had to go back to the old scheme," said Aldo Santos, a doorman who watched the game on a small black-and-white TV.

three goals for musn't mask one goal against conceded from a weak attack. brasilian defence made me laugh against japan and ghana...

i think those "young players" does not have enough experience to commit against the best defensive team in the world ever. brasilians love them, but they are not in the mind of carlos alberto parreira the best master in defensive strategy brasil ever had. remember we only got one goal yesterday night, last time it was three.

Quote"This was the worst thing that could have happened -- to lose to France again," said Fabio Santos, 39, a fan in Sao Paulo.

i think brasilian people should learn how to play on free kicks and corners from the babies to the elder people. they would miss less matches against france. and also they should allow more black people to play in defence. BLACK BLACK BLACK! where is the next pair of black roque junior for brazil?? why juan and lucio, those worthless dummies???

in my  opinion the selecao must resign cafu, roberto carlos, lucio and juan,  (the center is too weak and the sides are too much attack oriented) build itself from the defence, like in 1994. jorginho, branco, aldair and ricardo.

in modern football you need only one real attacker... a real number 9. you don't want three attackers waiting for centers in the same line (like ronaldo, ronaldinho and adriano waiting for cafu centers on all actions.)

spaniards also played with three number 9... ten years back in time, it worked. now it sucks. hopeless aragones.

AND TWO REAL MIDFIELDS like zinho and mazinho

Argammon yes I can read between your lines that you try to be unbiased and honest, but I still insist on the principle: you can only be unbiased about a nation's football team (or about any other thing) if you have nothing to do in real with that nation, that nation is neutral for you. Since no one else (a non-German) confirmed the state that I was biased and I was exaggerating, your opinion is still not affecting me.

My dream predictions for the semi finals:

Italy - Germany 100-0 (favourite team vs. least favourite team, I think nothing to explain)
Portugal - France 4-3

My realistic predictions:

Italy - Germany 1-0
Portugal - France 1-2

Italy ? Your favorite team ? Not mine. :P Too much defensive football, no magic. I don't see any good play in Germany's football too. Efficient sometimes, but no magic too.
Of course, magic is not enough to be World Champion, while defense is a must-have nowadays to be World Champion...
Anyway, I expect Italy to win also, even if Germany plays at home.

Quote from: "Akoss Poo"Portugal - France 1-2
That's the kind of score I'd like to see tomorrow evening. :-D
And no yellow card to French players Mr Referee please, I wanna see all French players able to play (and win) the great final versus Italy. :D

You were exagerating about the referee :P , go back considering Argy's opinion now.    :-D
But you were true about bad Argentinan coaching. That's why Argentina lost the match : bad coaching. Argentina's defense is not their main strength : 1-0 leading was not sufficient for them to win, they do not know how to preserve a score like Italy does. Argentina should have kept their way to play and they would have reached semi-finals... Where they would have lost versus Italy anyway. :-D

this makes me so sad... i wanted to play the germans in finals. I WANTED TO PLAY THE GERMANS IN FINALS!!!!

Among my friends it's a general opinion that the ref should have given a penalty to Argentina against Germany in the 89th minute, when the score was 1-1. They also say what everybody says: bad coaching. Riquelme and Messi having a rest on the bench, that's impermissibile luxury.

Italy have the ability to play nice and offensive football, but it's more efficient to insist on their defensive strategy. Btw, they played good football against Ghana and Ukraine. They scored 9 goals in 5 matches, that's not too few. And only 1 (own) goals scored against. Impressive. France had 8 goals (2 against), Portugal had 6 (against: 1), only Germany scored more goals from the remaining 4 teams (for: 11, against: 3). It's not Italy to blame for their defensive football. Portugal, Switzerland and England played the real antifootball throughout the tournament.

Chances to win the World Cup in my (realistic) opinion:

France 40%
Italy 35%
Germany 20% (home team; otherwise, it would be less)
Portugal 5%

yes, impressive, the best team of the world cup.

perhaps marcello lippi, which coached zinedine zidane for two calcio titles in 97 and 98, knows him well enough to make france lose. perhaps materazzi has a plan against zidane to injure him during the finals. perhaps italy is the best team in the world.

i dont get a thing, since one week, everything is crazy, and i will need one year to understand what is happening AGAIN.

Akoss thanks that my opinion is irrelevant to you. That's always a good base for a discussion.

Now on the matter:
I think it's not really fair judging a team by just 1 game.

I think of the remaining semi finalist germany has played the most offensive and entertaining football with the EXCEPTION of the Argentina match. So I can't see how they are boring to watch.

I don't say they are the best team but they are surely not boring to watch or 'no magic' or other **** like that (Krys).

I think the Italians will have a good chance to win today though. Not because they are playing better football or more beautifull football but because they are a clever team with a good defense.
And if Italy should get a lead I think their quick counters will create many problems for the germans :)

But really if you disregard the Argentina match I can't see why germany is your least favourite team.I thought neutrals usually are on the side of the underdogs, which germany was before the WC started.
It might be something personal :)

About the penalty:Most of my swedish relativs said it's no penalty.Same with their newspapers.I think giving such a penalty in the 89 minute would be to harsh because the Argentinian player really wanted it and it was more of an accident.

Wow, you give me 4 stars. Should I consider it as a compliment ? :-D  :P

Anyway, to come back to my "no magic" sentence that seems to made you angry about me (else, you would have not gave me these "4 stars" hiding a famous 4 letters word), I was talking about marvelous ball moves, dribbles and so on.
What I call a magic move is when watching the dribble you can only say "wow" with eyes wide open. It never happened to me since I watch football matches about a German player, that's a fact (I know you like facts and only facts Argammon, right ?).
Italy, England or Germany never had "magic" like that. But they managed to be World Champions anyway.
Having "magic" is pleasure to watch, but it's unusual if you can't score.

France 1 - 0 Brasil VIVA! VIVA! VIVA LES BLEUS! VIVA!

My tips for 1/2 final

Ger - ITA (Ger's attack only idea is centering the ball for Klose. Ita's defenders are very good at that, so they'll win. Unless some -lucky?- penalty or a big mistake)

FRA - Por (Por will do the same done to Eng and Neth. But France has a stronger midfield with Vieira and Makelele)

Klose, still leading top scorer scoreboard of this WC, didn't manage to shoot at least one ball to goal. He passed, but was unable to shoot.
Impressive Italian defense, and Buffon is still at his best.
Too bad for Germany, Lehmann did a good match but couldn't do anything on the 2 goals.
I think the match really started at the beginning of the 2*15 minutes of extended time. Before, it was too much defense and not really interesting football. Last 30 minutes showed that both teams didn't want to go to penalty session, and more movements and shoots to goal were done.
Now it's Portugal-France. I can't wait to see it, and I hope a French qualification. This match is like a trap, France already beat twice Portugal in a semi-final (both in European Championship), and there's a sentence I like in French : "jamais 2 sans 3". That means "never 2 without 3", ie that after 2 victories, you should win a 3rd time.
Fingers crossed and breath held. We'll see...

now i want two things:

1. italy should always be remembered as the bad winner of worldcup 2006, and when i say always, i mean even after football has ended or changed to another sport, people will say about italy: ah! those who stole the 2006 world cup to zidane?

2. some sort of "malediction" must fall on all of those players that won the world cup against france: they will be charged on doping, or they will all die in a couple of years, or whatever. or perhaps their club will be indicted in corruption affairs and they will have a salary cut next season? :)

Hahaha! I like Zidane even more after the head-kick, he showed how to communicate with such tiny bastards like Materazzi! I hope the "provocator" will be punished to, not only the "pravocated person" because that makes no sense. Often verbal attack can be much more painfull then physical. But sadly no camera can show it yet.

I don't think that's a good way to handle a verbal insulter. Zidane acted like an animal...

Good ways to handle a Materazzi: 1. insult back, 2. score the winning goal

Anyway, Zidane is still great. Such things have been done many times without this much fuss about it. There is only such fuss because it was the world cup final and his last match. That doesn't make the action worse, even though it was bad. Zidane is still one of the greatest football players ever.
