Title: Other languages chat (aka topic of babel)
Post by: Overdrijf on September 16, 2010, 12:43:13 PM
There is a place to chat in English, a place to chat in Hungarian and a place to chat in Spanish. This topic is dedicated to those speaking any other language(s). Whether tu parle Francais of praat Afrikaans, this is the place to do it. As long as everybody stays kirafiki, all bahasa-bahasa are welcome. And please, try not to make it all too understandable, that takes alle lol eruit.

Well, I could say something in Danish, but using one's native tongue is just too boring isn't it :(

Well, I think I spoke in 5 different languages in my previous sentence, unlike you, who only used Dutch.  ;)

Aber wieso und weshalb? Immer wenn ich in Deutschland war sprach mal nur Englisch. Österreich ist eine andere Frage, abert dort spricht man niemand Deutsch, aber etwas anderes...
Deutschsprachige Musik zu hören genügt als Deutschkentnisse zu benutzen? :)

In Österreich spricht niemand deutsch?

For the others: few months ago Akoss wrote a Hungarian sentence that contained only words with German origin (Anzug, Sparherd, niemand, etc.). Our language is full of German and Slavic words...

Do you have common Stunts expressions in your own language? How do you say the name of track elements?

Mostly I use the English word even when speaking about it in Hungarian, but there are some "national" versions, too:

replay = visszajátszás
ramp = ugrató (and some folkloric versions, like ugrasztó, ugrajtó :D)
powergear = kiakasztás
powergear next to the fence = LOME kerítéstaktika :D (invented by Akoos LOME in the late 90s)

And the simple translations:

pipe = csö (with long ö)
tunnel = alagút
finish = cél
bridge = híd
banked corner = dölt kanyar (long ö)
manual gear = kézi váltó

I haven't talked to anyone about Stunts technicalities in Danish since I taught Lise to play in 2004. I guess there's a few concepts I'd still use Danish words for:

finish line (målstreg)
icy corner (is-sving)
and bridge, road, grass etc. (bro, vej, græs)

Back when I was a kid, we used "flyvehop" (translate to "flying jump" or "flight jump") for jumps.

The nomenclature used by Kalpens in the 90s would be quite interesting (or the Loehrers). Aerial stunts = FLUGKUNSTSTÜCK ? ;D

I've never used "dugóhúzó" for that element.

I use almost all the words in english, but:

bridge: puente
pipe: caño
crashed car: la puta madre

For 4dsl site I translated everything to make it easier for everybody, ie,:

power gear: alta velocidad (it means high speed)
replay handling: manejo de replay
magic carpet: alfombra voladora

Correction: invented by Ákos LOKE in 1996/97.

Replay is "ripléj".  ;D
