Yes!! The Police car from Test Drive 2 & the duel is under construction! The Ford LTD Crown Victoria from 1983 will be a police interceptor tunned to race against the best super sport cars in this game somewhere between Ferrari GTO and IMSA. I think I'll try to emulate the hardest difficulty from Test Drive II & the duel where the police is a pain in the lower part of the back :D
The car files are attached in this post.
So this will be the second police car to complete the set:
- Ford LTD Crown Victoria Police Interceptor (top speed between 190mph - 205mph) Ferrari GTO level aprox.
- Dodge Monaco Highway Patrol (top speed between 150mph - 170mph) Acura or Porsche Carrera level aprox.
I want to build them to make a fun experience for the player. Also the challenge is to make it drivable by the opponents in a live race against these super sport cars too. What do you think?
Organize a mini tournament, 3 cars 3 tracks, call it the cop cup. ;)

I think it's a great idea. If you made the performance realistic, they would be outclassed by the majority of the Stunts line-up and therefore, not that much fun. Also, the 3D model looks great! :)
I Iove it!!!!!!
Yeah! It really looks superb!
I'm thinking that there should be a wiki post about the "2021 car making frenzy" ;D The number of cars has grown geometrically this year!
Avoid speeding or you'll be chased by our highway patrol and the police interceptor ;)
Thank you for your cooperation.
- 3d Shape of both cars are finished
- Dashboard for Ford Crown Victoria 80% finished
- Ford Crown Victoria game performance 70% finished
- 3d shape finished
- car specs and performance finished
- Dashboard 80% finished
I'm using carworks for the performance of the car. It is a lot easier to edit than car blaster. I can't find some details as the width of the car. I did the car so narrow that can't crash against trees or the finish line ;D. Where can I edit this parameter with carworks?
Carworks can automatically calculate those values I believe.
The car is finished. I just messed up with the dashboard graphics... the ins1, whl3... and all that shit. Is there an easy way to put the parts in order?
Why we must put the stallin same graphic over the same graphic in some parts? I mean whl3 over ins3 for example. What a waste of time.
It's layers. The whl3 is steering wheel layer.the ins3 instrument panel layer. The animation of the needle Goes over 'ins' and under 'whl'.
At least, that's what I figured.
I still can't reproduce transparencies. :(

Do you have the mask (inm3) ??
yes
You can share it your work.
Having problems with "inm" and "ins" masks. The whole car is done :'(
Ryoma: Thank you! That would be fine but I want to solve my self if I can. I like the idea of comming with the surprise of a new car like a Stunts Santa Claus :D If I give up of these sh!tty useless masks I'll ask your help. Thanks :)
Without having a look at your work, it's difficult to point you in the right direction. One thing I can think of is to ensure that you have set your mask coordinates correctly. Otherwise, you could send your work to Ryoma privately. Think of him as one of Santa's helpers. ;)
I love you guy, thank you!! I'll give another try tomorrow. If I cant do it then I'll publish the files.
Ok I'll publish the car. I'll be glad if somebody can help me with this detail. The only problem left is about the "ins" and "inm" masks. I attach here the 4 car files and 3 editable .psd to do/undo what is needed to fix it. :D
I'm sorry I couldn't fix it and I spent hours with it. Please help me.
Now it looks like "d1" but it should look like "d2". I mean the part inside the red square ;)
Very nice dashboard I like it...the speedometer looks difficult. I will tale a look at this today .
Ryoma. Do you think it is possible to lower the centre point of the needle and add the part of the dashboard that is over the needle to the steering wheel layer?
Ok I reduce the size of Ins2. For remind : insX and inmX (X =1 or 3) are the results of the collision of whlX and ins2 in the window of ins2.
I will put on my méga the files.

I try with the Fiat 500, I think it's not possible to hide some part of the needle.
@alanrotoi
240HP really ???
I know that the tip goes behind the wheel. But I'm not sure about the base. I never positioned the needle. Only edited graphics.
But maybe we can cheat with the color of the needle and the color of the dashboard

I don't know how to calculate the HP ingame so I put real info :D. BTW I noticed I must update the car info and I forgot to change the roof :o
More than 300hp and 9000rpm for a big block.
I made some changes here :

Did you fixed the dashboard? :)
Yes I do ....did you try the car in the link above?
Thank you so much! I see you adjusted the start point of the needles and fixed the mask problem. How do you do it so easy? I was the whole yesterdays morning trying to fix it and couldn't.
Now I'll add the new roof, update the car info and it's done :)
It's not easy : Ins2 shall be the smaller as possible, with this rule sometime you will avoid insX and inmX. If not insX and inmX (X =1 or 3) are the results of the collision of whlX and ins2 in the window of ins2.
I think I resume properly the use of inmX and insX.
Another thing : on your dashboard there are some artéfacts cause by the conversion of the palets. Particulary on the top and air vent.
The car is finished! Attached here and in the 1st post. Also the wiki article is updated. If you find any error/bug please let me know. This is the first police car for this game! Chase those infractor cars and win the duel!
I've been trying the car. It really looks great and it's very comfortable to drive!
Thanks! And I made a promo video of course! I hope you like it :D
https://youtu.be/7B-1I1ShkSk
That was really cool. Nice setup.
I love hou the car starts wiggling to keep the police behind.
Was the red car all ai? Or did you switch cars for some shots?
Very cool video.
One question why the graphics on the video on youtube is better than mine. Look the camparaison : I have these artefact on the air vent and dash board that did not exist on the video on youtube.
Can someone explain it ???
What artifacts?? I don't see it..
Some rust color on the air vent and some grey pixels on the top of the dashboard instead of marroon.
Excellent work on the car and I love the video as well! :) As for the difference between the game running locally and the video on YouTube, I can't see any. Obviously the game looks sharper when running locally, but that is to be expected.

Thanks! The Ferrari GTO was Skid Vicious all the time. It was unexpected when he didn't let me pass when I got closer in the bridge corners and it reinforced the story 😊.
@ Ryoma, maybe is just a rendering effect. The original images size has 320x200 pixels and they were resized to 1280x720.
BTW do somebody knows what's the song of the video? ::)
Cover of TD 2 music ?
Another thing : your car looks like a brick but it's very aerodynamic ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Yeah! ;D
Yes! I'm building these tuned American cars trying to make them susceptible to bugs like magic carpet or others. That's why I also tested with car dimentions and weight.
Seems American cars from 60's to late 80's are mostly bricks so fortunately they're easier to build a 3D model. Fortunately for me because it is the first time drawing 3D models since 1999. I enjoy doing it but it costs me a lot of time.

I know, I know....about 8 hours for a shape, the same for a dashboard...
Great video! :) The Interceptor doing what it's best at. The music does sound really cool in this video. I wasn't familiar with TD2 music. I've always only had TD3.
The blur and colour change surely has to do with the codec compression. What is the original video resolution? If you scale up the game window without any kind of interpolation, then the effects of lossy compression should be milder.
Thanks! The original video is a dosbox capture so it's 320x200.

I don't know. It feels like more. I work for few time and then leave so my production is quiet slow. I have more time now in summer.
Yeah, then that's why. You can scale it up to 640x400 and it should look sharper in spite of the video compression. But this is as long as the conversion doesn't try to change the aspect ration to 4:3, which it shouldn't.
