Yahoooooooooo, I did that :D With Indy on Booty. Anyone had bigger speed? Or 255 is the maximum?

I think 255 mph is the maximum speed. I once got a lot of high speeds when playing with ManOnMoon in the good old days (we would play with an opponent and block his way in the beginning - try that! :D), and we never got higher than 255, and only very rarely that high.

I vaguely remember having gotten a speed of about 500 mph because of some bug, but it could have been a dream... it probably was a dream :D

I had this today on Booty:

Average Speed: (who remembers)
Impact Speed: 255mph
Maximum Speed: 245mph

strange :)

I also did 255 one day.
But I remember I did 305 one another day... although I'm not sure, possibly it was only a dream or something like that.

Not a dream:  Impact speed: 355 mph on ZCT 2* (don't remember...) at the beginning of the track with Knight Rider (tuned car :D ).

i think its not even funny to speak about unreal speeds like that... my opinion is that most of you cant reach a decent average speed, or drive stunts cars and master them. then you start fantasizing on imaginary speeds... i d like to have a indy car with a digital speed to see max speeds in the curves.

And I forgot to save a 658 mph average speed after falling on concrete blocks of the hill after 6 seconds...  :?

Knight Rider, I crashed the starting line's column... It's only an error in Stunts, but it seems so cool... :)

It happens because the car ends up on the wrong side of the finish line (because you hit something after it and are thrown back). Then at the end of the replay, when the opponent comes in, you are detected as not finished, and the time just keeps rolling, until it reaches some kind of limit. I'm not going to calculate it, but I guess 53:27 is some "mathematical" number in seconds or 0.05's.

Or Bonzai Joe? Even earlier: Inavoeg? Mark Nailwood?

Truly bizarre! This also logically means that the average average speed is simultaneously lower and higher than the average speed.

Title: Re: 255 mph

Well, maybe they are. But only if we can establish that 7 days is one week, and that the two weeks are supposed to be added together using the same base as "14" is referenced in. It's really hard to say.

It would also vary on the person saying that. We all know Darkie's 14 days are... special

Why is the absolute top speed only 245 instead of 255? The latter one would be more logical... ::)

(is there a way to unlock this speed limit?)

It is a hard-coded limit in the speed-updating routine (confirmed via restunts). I suspect Pickell set an arbitrary cap so that the physics engine wouldn't become (too) wacky. IIRC I read somewhere here that one of the later ports of Stunts (maybe Amiga or FM Towns) has 256mph as the limit speed, which suggests that after some bugs were fixed it became feasible to remove the restriction.

Patching the .exe to change the limit value might just work. I wonder why I haven't tried it yet  :)

I've seen 255 as maximum speed in BB1.1 —crashing in powergear sometimes, including ZCT144.

That's only a mistake, as you can read on the first page.
