Quote from: Duplode on January 24, 2025, 02:14:05 AM@dreadnaut Re-reading the draft of the rules, I have noticed another difference relative to the proposal. The draft says "Pipsqueaks in first position gain 0.5 bonus points for every 132 hours", which would imply the existence of a PTB +1.5 step between PTB +1 and PTB +2. With there being only three steps, it's probably easier to just have a table listing them:

Hours    PTB points
132    +0.5
264    +1
528    +2

Thanks Duplode, feel free to update the rules file. Also, to clarify: let's have a clean start with PTB, without carrying over the hours from the previous system.

Cars are in, thank you all for the discussion!

Can anyone generate side images for the Camaro, Diablo VT, and Oxia? 🙏

I've updated the rules for 2025 with a first draft, have I missed anything?

QuotePosition Time Bonus (PTB)

The system tracks how long you stay in one of the top-6 position on the scoreboard.

  • Pipsqueaks in first position gain 0.5 bonus points for every 132 hours they hold the position during the race.
  • Pipsqueaks in the following five positions gain 0.5 bonus points for amounts of hours multiple of 132: ×2, ×3, ×5, ×8, and ×13.
  • When moving position, pipsqueaks carry hours over, scaled up or down using the coefficients above. E.g., if you have 100 hours in 4 position, and move up to second place, you will bring 100 / 5 * 2 = 40 hours.
  • Pipsqueaks can gain at most 2 bonus points per race.
  • Position-time calculation starts on the first day of each race. If the track is available earlier, position time is not calculated.
  • Position-time calculation ends with the start of the quiet days.

@Argammon, if you are OK with it let's start with yours!

I think too many options each race could be quite draining, or the initial bonus would have to be high enough to decide the cars half of the season.

Anyway, I'm thinking of going with a standard 11 + 5, and try to get PTB-264. It might not be ready today, but the calculations will be retroactive 😅

I can see a few options for the vote-and-update pattern:

  • you can vote as soon as you submit a replay ➡️ easiest option, but no reason to come back / think over
  • voting opens after X days of racing ➡️ voting after one lap doesn't sound right to me, this would introduce a bit of delay for most pipsqueaks
  • voting opens during quiet days ➡️ brings together the end of the race, a high activity moment, with the hidden voting: two secrets in one!

Thanks all for you thoughts and reasonings! It's tricky to balance ZakStunts as a conservative/old-school competition, while keeping things fresh.

I would be OK with rotating one or two original cars out for a year to make space for custom ones, while I think 18 cars is too many for 12 races, with many cars ending up unused or, somehow worse, piling up at the top of the bonus chart without receiving the love they deserve.

Let's stick to 11+5 then. Proposals earlier in this thread seem to include 2 custom cars from past seasons, and three new entries. We could also go for 1+4, but I'm happy to leave a wider range of cars to R4K and CCC, to differentiate the competitions ;D

If we were to remove a couple of original cars for a year, which one would you pick?

Quote from: Cas on January 07, 2025, 09:49:34 PMI don't remember my previous votes, so I can't vote objectively.

I'm very much expecting folks to vote subjectively, depending on whether they enjoyed the track or not, rather than base on some unmeasurable 'objective' good-trackness!

Quote from: Cas on January 07, 2025, 09:49:34 PMIt'd be better to be able to vote for a track during the race and change your vote any time you want until the race is over or something like that.

Mmmh, maybe that's something that I can make work 🤔

Thanks for the preview Duplode! Is it a time consuming process? Would you be able to test the PTB-264 effect on 2023 and 2022 as well, to get extra data points?
