Yeah, I also should make it so that, if you haven't pressed any key for the following two seconds or so or if you pressed a key that's not a number or letter from A to F, it just goes back to normal

Ah, I have the Brøderbund 1.1 version. I use Neverlock (stunts_k.exe) for the crack.

Custom Cars with Stressed / Car Wiki articles
December 15, 2020, 09:51:46 PM
Hey, guys!

I've been taking a look at car articles in the Wiki, especially those that are custom-made. I found that some custom-made cars that are very used (and some that are not used so much) don't have an article or have a very minimal article. I am willing to create and edit articles to have that completed, but it turns out I don't know a lot about cars so I'm not the best car reviewer. I could start by making the articles and then other people could contribute a thorough analysis or you guys could help me make those analysis in the depth these cars deserve.

So far, what I have done is create an article about the DTM pack, which mentions the three cars, but this article is very basic and I think each of the cars should have its own individual article as well with much more detail.

Then... which aspects should I measure and how?  Everybody who would be interesting in adding to this, I guess the more we are, the better, but as I said, I'm willing to do the whole thing myself if necessary... I would just want some directions to do it well. Thanks!

The bug Daniel3D describes, I have not experienced or not that I remember. Are you sure, Daniel, that you have the exact same copy as we do?  I remember my old Stunts 1.0 copy was sometimes unstable and I had learnt which options to avoid (such as loading a replay from the Options menu; I had to use ESC while driving instead), but 1.1 works perfectly fine to me.

All in all, it looks like most sound/music  issues are correlated

Live Races / Re: Live Races 2020

Morning!  :o  Is there a thing called "morning"?  Ha, ha XD  Yeah, well, I'd have to start drifting my brain's time-zone starting tonight, as I'm usually an owl that goes to bed at 4am or 5am and sleep till midday. There are still a few days ahead so I can do it. Besides, it's not the same waking up early to work as waking up early to race! :D

Quote from: afulloNote that when you press backslash no box opens
You know, I was pretty sure the backslash option was undocumented. Now I see I even described it in the manual!  Anyway, it's true it doesn't even appear in the shortcut key list in the Help menu and no signal shows when you press it, so it's very much of a technical and debugging option. Maybe I should make its existence clearer.

Version 2.5.5 was particularly buggy, but not in this aspect, so you wouldn't notice a difference. Anyway, I do recommend anyone using that version to upgrade. If you're using 2.5.4 and you're fine and don't need the newer features, that's OK, but 2.5.5, as I said, is buggy.

Oh, that's going to be quite early for you, KyLiE!  Anyway, I'm more comfortable on the 19th, but if it's to be the 20th, count on me too

Now I'm thinking that there's another thing I've noticed many times and it might be related: sometimes I'm at the menu and there's silence for a moment. Then, one of the music tracks begins but only one of the channels can be heard, that is, no bass or drums. I continues like this until I select "Drive" and at that point, for a couple of seconds before the race starts, the background channel kicks in briefly. Also, sometimes, if I've been watching a replay or doing RH, I have sound there, but then I try to Continue Driving or Restart Driving and I get no sound at all (except perhaps some very low noise). This gets resolved if I go back to the main menu and drive from there.

Anyway, I asked this initially because I was under the impression that it was related to one or more cars and that maybe some parameters in the RES file could be changed that could fix this. Now it looks like it's not that way  :-\

So strange. I was so convinced that it was a thing and now, of course, I can't replicated it.

In my case, in the 90s, I only used DOS. While other people had gotten used to Windows 3.1 to the point that they didn't know what to do if they ever typed "win" and it didn't come up, I didn't have Windows at all in my computer, so I would run Stunts 1.0, the one I had, in pure MS-DOS 6.22. Starting year 2000 or maybe late 1999, I got connected to the Internet, so I created a small partition for Windows 95, which I used exclusively to go online. At that time, one wouldn't be connected all the time, but just dial up when needed, so still, most of the time on the computer, I was in pure DOS and only when I wanted to do something online, I would reboot with Windows 95, so still, I was running Stunts in DOS. In 2005, I got to WSC, and then I met Stunts 1.1. I started trying my first GNU/Linux distros. One or two years later, I managed to go online with Ubuntu and get used to it, so I stopped installing Windows 95/98 and gradually migrated my things from DOS to Ubuntu, but DOSBox, when it came up, wasn't as stable and I didn't know how to configure it, so I'd still boot up pure DOS (FreeDOS at that time) to run Stunts. One day I mentioned here that I found DOSBox too slow for Stunts and Duplode pointed out I probably wasn't setting up the cycles correctly. That must have been in 2015!  Only then, I began using DOSBox to race. And after all that, for some reason, I was convinced of the existence of this bug!

Stunts Chat / Crash with no sound

Hey, guys. I remember since a long time ago, that sometimes, you would crash and no sound would occur. For some reason, I had associated this with the Jaguar, but now I've been trying it and it does make a sound when crashing, so I don't know if this was fixed or if there's a relation. What do you guys know about this?

Probably, testing "actively" will yield clearer results. I mean, not just observing the current settings, but altering them while leaving everything else the same and looking at what's different

And you surely should be mentioned there!   But before editing, we should test this thoroughly. You might find this useful:

http://www.raceforkicks.com/downloads/fodix04.zip

It's a program I made years ago. I should be rewriting the whole of it because it's not optimal (the window is small and while it's GUI-based, you have to call it from the command line with a file name as a parameter), but it works and it's very useful for viewing and editing binary files. It should make it very easy to edit the opponent files.

EDIT: Updated link. 23-02-2021

I saw that one. It's nice in that it shows how one would start to analyse Stunts. Unfortunately, the guy does not mention all the advancement that has already been made on understanding Stunts throughout this century. In his videos, he very briefly mentions the community at all a single time. But it's interesting to see.

Ah!  I understand now. So the position in the file indicates the stunt and the value indicates how much of a slowdown for that stunt. Right?  This is super easy!  We can begin experimenting :D

The curious thing is that, while it makes a lot of sense, it seems to overlap with the function of the other section. See here: http://wiki.stunts.hu/index.php?title=Opponent_files

The sped section is very brief. What you are describing, I understand, is the path section, which happens to be as long as the number of track elements. However, the function of these two sections is then very similar, in a way. I wonder how the two interact.
