ROFL = Rolling on the floor laughing, one of the possible exaggerations of LOL.   :D

Wow, that was very cool! Too bad my connection is not really good for those fancy Flash effects so I will need quite some patience to explore further...

Great even these, sure!  :D

While my newbie driving morale is still not good enough to fully ROFL at these, it's refreshing to see my parking skill could be vastly worse  :)

Finally, an example to show how ice and snow could be a risk even driving very slow...

Stunts Questions / Aerodynamical data on CAR*.RES
February 20, 2008, 11:20:54 PM
While doing the tuning for a new project, I finally located the aerodynamical coefficient parameter that puts a cap on cars' flat-straightline top speed and high-gear acceleration. The ever-elusive byte has address 5Eh, two bytes before the torque curve - that is, right under our noses... :P Anyway, understanding how that parameter works is a crucial piece of information on overall comprehension of tuning; therefore you may expect some significant overhaul on the Wiki stuff about tuning anytime soon  :)

Custom Cars with Stressed / Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R
February 20, 2008, 11:13:55 PM
Edit: The first release of this car is already available, at the new cars for 2009 topic.

A couple days ago, there was a small discussion at the "Special Cars in 2008" ZakStunts thread around some comments by Argammon. Although I may have reacted rather badly at the time to those comments, they motivated me to kickstart another tuning project which was lying in my head for a while: coding a new, real car with accurately modeled performance. The chosen vehicle, as you guessed from the title, is the legendary Nissan Skyline R32 GT-R. Reasons for selecting that particular car are various; including, first and foremost, that I am a die-hard Gran Turismo old-schooler  ;) Implied of course is the fact that Gran Turismo 2 is a pretty viable testing plattform... but it goes beyond that. On its era, the R32 GT-R was among the very best, and most advanced, cars of the world. And it is very realistic to think of it as a possible Stunts car, for its release was on 1989! 8) Finally, the Stunts GT-R will be a "slow" custom car with realistic handling and performance, traits not seen so often as vehemently pointed out by Argammon.

Currently, the new car is in alpha-stage development. The difficult part, torque curve and gear ratios, is already finished. Handling still requires some testing, but the intent is to make it moderately above average taking NSX, Carrera and etc. as reference. More details will come when the car is ready for release, but before that I kindly ask your opinion about aesthetics... the dashboard is more or less settled for NSX, since it has a somewhat similar layout to the real thing (see pic below). The real problem is the 3D shape: all options aren't good at all and I can't decide which one is less bad... :-\ So, please vote on the poll above. If you don't remember how does a R32 Skyline look, check the pics below. Thanks and see you soon!

Cool stuff, sums up very nice style and evolution of SDR races. And authoring soundtrack is at a whole new level of tribute videos! 8)

Oh, did somebody call me?   :D

CTG's suggestion of adding a chronological rank of champions seems fine enough, but I wonder whether you think it's best to put it on the 'Chronology' article or create a nwe page altoegether.

Sure, but it will be easier for both of us if you join Damage Inc. ;D ;)

That would make a most interesting season, for sure! :D

And then I ask why people always need to create something faster/stronger than what's included in the original.

Look at most NFS games for example. 90% of all user made cars are rediculessly overpowered or at leaster way faster than they should be in compared to the one's already in the game.
Seems to be the same problem in stunts.

I'm missing a bit of humility here.

Why don't you ceate some car with interesting stearing capabilities and speed between the IMSA cars and the slow cars instead of creating one super duper car after another? There's definatly a gap there.

Well, people try to make cars they find interesting, even if  merely to have a kick on instant power gear. Melange may be mostly an IMSA derivative, but the graphical touches still look cool nevertheless. As for the other cars, they do occupy a "gap": Speedgate is between Skoda (and the other true cheat cars) and Indy, while GT3 is a cross between IMSA and GTO... aren't those valid as well?

Well, I feel adding non-powergear cars will probably not make balance worse than what it is now with Indy, so I vote yes for adding extra options to the pipsqueaks. But sort of like BJ, this is a "weak" yes, conditioned to what feeling Zak gets when balancing. Speedgate will be quite interesting, as it has potential to beat Indy on most non-powergear tracks... also, Melange's reported higher bug capabilities in comparison to its IMSA pals might be a factor too.

PS.: I fully agree with BJ on his comment about rewarding car designers... Even though I'd love to see GT3 being used here, health and balance of the competition comes first, no doubt about it.

Hello!

Sadly I won't be close to computer in March and April. But I think a good final race needs the most known car, INDY! It means big efforts from me in February ensuring the championship.

High stakes on the table now... 8)

Stunts Chat / Re: Extreme competitions
February 04, 2008, 04:14:57 PM
That's a nice topic... I had been wondering about expanding the Stunts league/cup concept (like USL or IMSA cup) to include home and away matches. It would work like this:

  • Before the draws are done, each pipsqueak has to announce publically, Visegrad-style, a list of two or three cars to be used through the competition - either alternating each round or a certain number of rounds for each car. The driver would also choose the order in which the cars would be used, but without knowing the opponents of each round of course.
  • Then the draws are made, for either cup or league, and the competition starts. Races would be bi-weekly: on the first week, each match between two pipsqueaks is done with one of their cars; and on the following week with the other pipsqueak car (thus, "home" and "away" legs). The final result is defined by sum of times.
  • In case two pipsqueaks choose the same car for a certain round, SWR/WRL rankings may be used to decide who's got preference - the other pipsqueak has to switch the car for another of his list, and switch the new car for the old one if possible for a future round. Rankings may be used to decide who'll play "home" first - probably an advantage as well.
Complicated, isn't it? :P
