Racing Games & Other Competitions / Re: TrackMania

Btw - just few months ago it was discovered that the replay system of TM is based both on position of a car and keystrokes during the ride. Karl Jobst says it is unusual thing in racing games - only position of a car is usually stored in replays. And - because of analyzing inputs (frequency of tapping) they discovered pretty big cheating scandal. :) If you have time, you can watch:

Competition 2016 / Re: GAR scoreboard

So we start from ZCT178 ? Honestly I think that we have raced also the first 3 races in a GAR way ?
It is your competition so you can say and sum it.

Anyway it's not a problem this one, I really appreciate that you have inserted this sidescore. The only point that i dislike is that the Gar laptime is finishing also on the main scoreboard. I would like to leave the main but in that way I'm always present.
What? Man, you are posting replays to ZakStunts and do not want to publish them?

Quote from: Marco on June 12, 2016, 06:45:27 PM
My dream is to see a championship scoreboard with the main and the newbie.  If I will have no strange health problems I can assure that i will participate till the end of year and beyond..

Well, maybe my language may sound strong but I think you are asking really much. If you want your own championship so much than create it. I think own tracks and cars' ruleset would suite GAR more..

Rather not commenting on your "super(b) idea"..

I strongly disagree with adding additional scoreboards in ZakStunts. Especially in case of GAR which is a stand-alone ruleset and a competition on its own. As far as I like GAR I cannot see any reason to have GAR in ZakStunts. Lack of Marco's coding skill is not an excuse - there are many ways to have a competition without a website.

This was a really nice NSX track, but it wasn't to be. On the bright side, in spite of the not so small gaps the top 3 Vette lines were different enough that an analysis wouldn't be uninteresting.

Well.. I started 2 secs slower than Renato (utterly stupid - I somehow could not reproduce jump on a starting tunnel's roof in time) and as I've reached PG (which was the hardest part for me) I was so happy it is over I did not care about the rest of the track - it was simply "just-do-it-without-penalties-Renato-like line". And I was soooo sure about your inactivity.. :-/

If you need proof that Usrin is Slovak, look at this: he was co-author of a paper in the Slovak Geological Magazine!

What does it say about your nationality?

I think almost all bugs in Stunts has something with over/uderflow of registers/variables.

I believe power gear has something to do truncation handling, though it seems entirely possible it being an over/underflow triggered by bad truncation. I probably should have investigated it further back when I was messing with restunts stuff  ::)

A-ha. Still, let's assume different handling of PG is caused by truncation differencies. And truncation differencies are probably caused by register/variable bit-size, aren't they? Does restunts code uses same-precision floats as the original game etc.?

Btw is restunts code somewhere available? No that I would understand it, but I have more time to look at some random characters now. :)

With Dosbox config:
[cpu]
#      core: CPU Core used in emulation. auto will switch to dynamic if available and appropriate.
#            Possible values: auto, dynamic, normal, simple.
#   cputype: CPU Type used in emulation. auto is the fastest choice.
#            Possible values: auto, 386, 386_slow, 486_slow, pentium_slow, 386_prefetch.
#    cycles: Amount of instructions DOSBox tries to emulate each millisecond.
#            Setting this value too high results in sound dropouts and lags.
#            Cycles can be set in 3 ways:
#              'auto'          tries to guess what a game needs.
#                              It usually works, but can fail for certain games.
#              'fixed #number' will set a fixed amount of cycles. This is what you usually need if 'auto' fails.
#                              (Example: fixed 4000).
#              'max'           will allocate as much cycles as your computer is able to handle.
#
#            Possible values: auto, fixed, max.

core=simple
cputype=386
cycles=fixed 1000

which should mimics non-dynamic core, running in Linux Gutix's replay ran OK. Well - i did not notice up until today that this game has SLOW and FAST simulation options!! :D I do not know differences and impact on replays. I guess everyone has set up a fast simulation option. Gutix's replay ran OK with both options.

I think almost all bugs in Stunts has something with over/uderflow of registers/variables. If I understand correctly  game_pc.exe is a re-compiled executable. Are you there are registers/variables exactly the same size as in the original game?

Topic starter.

30 January: train trip to Kassa (Kosice), sightseeing, eating, drinking, shopping there with Ildi.

Now we are planning to get to Nyíregyháza or Sárospatak/Sátoraljaújhely this weekend to spend two nights there.

Other main things for me these weeks: see 'Be failed' topic.
How did you enjoy Košice? I really like that city. :)

Nice to see this topic revived. My proposition:

- An "OWOOT" flag that pipsqueaks can check when uploading replay
- OWOOT replays appear on a separate scoreboard as well (similar to newbie league). Only one entry per pipsqueak in the main scoreboard
- OWOOT replays forced to be always public
- OWOOT races are entirely 'just for fun', do not impact seasonal replays at all (no bonus points or similar)
- Of course if a pipsqueak only sends OWOOT replays, that counts as the best time for the main race.

I would also say only OWOOT or NORH flags, not both. We are too small of a team to segment so much. The one people want the most should be the one implemented.
I like NoRH much more than OWOOT (especially with RH). In case of RH OWOOT I would probably participate only with NoRH replays.

Well, and what if I wnat to race in both RH and NoRH style? Will I have two entries in a scoreboard?

I prefer not to waste my efforts reviewing the 201 current registered members and make assumptions whether they are ghosts or not. As soon as a sleeping ghost reappears and does damage, or tries to login with several incorrect password attempts, actions will be taken.
I have no interest in acting as a warden trying to keep CTG away from the community at all costs. He is obviously unable to leave. All I want to do is him to leave others in peace.

One day maybe Friker the Slovak ghost reappears so be prepared for some "incorrect password attempts". ;)

BTW Does anyone know how's Mark L. Rivers?
