Stunts Forum & Portal / Stunts CD
July 12, 2005, 11:12:15 AM
Well, version 1.0 of the StuntsCD & Competition Archive is available!

It contains tracks from 22 competitions, and is available in two versions:

1. This is a boot CD based on a windows98 boot cd. It's recommended for people having trouble runnign Stunts (like those using windows XP)
Using a CD-burner software copy this ISO to a CD. Then simply put in the disc, switch on the computer, Stunts starts automaticly in a minute, and you can play. Of course it's strictly noRH, as you can't save replays to the CD :)
The disc also contains the other release stuntscd.tar, which is explained below.

http://stunts.mine.nu/zakstunts/dl/stuntscd_iso.tar (5MB)

2. This is a simple TAR archive containing the collection, without the bootable CD. So inside is a copy of the original Stunts disks, and the competition archive (tracks+replays+info files), some add-ons (track blaster,melange xgt-88 and volcov commander) + the excel summary file.
Download this, unpack to your hard drive, and enjoy the finest collection of Stunts competition tracks and kickass replays.
Of course if your filesystem is FAT or FAT32, boot the StuntsCD, exit the noRH Stunts, navigate to the Stunts dir installed to your HD, and there you go, drive&save top replays for the running competitions.

Stunts Forum & Portal / The future of the portal
June 09, 2005, 03:21:35 PM
Well I finally had some time (don't want to learn marketing, d'oh :)) to care about the portal a bit.
I divided to competitions to active/inactive ones, and also removed the outdated stuff as well:

live race pages
useless links
and also the games section

you might know about it but almost all the abandonware rings have closed down, no people came for the games, so it was pointless to keep it up.

Now the portal looks very empty.
I considered shutting it down, but then I thought its still useful

1. there is no other listing of all the stunts competitions on one site
2. the portal is linked from many pages like the stunts wikipedia, and several froums, bringing 5-10 visitors/day.

However, I'd like to see the portal a little bit more alive.
If you have any suggestions what to put there and how to make it more alive/ maybe attract more visitors, just tell me.

some ideas:

1. Alain could again write articles as he did in Stuntsrus
2. New times could be posted out to the portal - i don't think this would work for a long time
3. pipsqueaks could start writing racing blogs about why they drive/dont drive
4. The forum might get integrated with the portal, as the main meeting point for the community.

I think the portal will might get a new engine. A portal-engine, where regustered users can post articles, others can comment on them, and you can access many other things. This would combine all my ideas in one :)

It's worth a try.
At least it's better than learning marketing :D

Yes I'm in a spam-mood :D I can have it too sometimes, can't I? :)

This opening post is especially dedicated to Dinmor :)
And its about
T?R? RUDI! (and many other things)

yes, the famous most delicious Hungarian sweetie filled with cottage cheese
:)

Oh sorry, not really cottage cheese! details here:
http://www.pestiside.hu/archives/british_hypermarket_exposes_ageold_hungarian_lie000263.php

and of course people love it from all around the world:
on the T?r? Rudi fanlisting page (http://www.freeweb.hu/hangyaboly/turorudi)
for example

Billy from Canada states:
Quote'WOW! I'm utterly speechless! My tongue had never truly lived until I tried this wonderful product!'

and whats more, Osnat from Israel states:
Quoteits the only thing i think about other than sex

I can definitely agree.
This is one of the Hungarian delicates I'll bring as a present to the hosts of the meeting. A pack of T?r? Rudi. Of course you can't miss a big piece of Hungarian salami:

and my world famous cooking skills:, which some can remember :)

(OK, maybe not this much :D)

and Akoss will surely fulfill the need of your throats (but i hope not the ears :)

As lots of us are attending various schhols this is a new topic to throw out all the things which make us sad/happy related to school.

To start with, I passed my financial accountancy and report analysing exam for the first try. A thing which is a rarely seen mirage in our school. I'm completely happy when not thinking on the 6 more exams laying ahead :)

off to learn politology ;)

World Stunts Meeting 2005 / REAL Racing!
March 04, 2005, 10:25:23 PM
One of the main attractions on the 2005 meeting could be a live kart race between us - we agreed in this yesterday with KHR and JTK.

There are several tracks near Hameln, prices vary. The length of the race is usually 6-10 round training and qualifycation, and 25-40 rounds race, with 7-10 competitors at once.
One lap is between 20 and 50 seconds depending on the place, so a race is around 15-25 minutes of fun.

however, its not cheap. in order to select the best track it'd be great to know who is intrested, and how much would you spend on this maximally.
please vote, and write your vote as text too, if possible.

World Stunts Meeting 2005 / T-shirt
March 04, 2005, 10:17:40 PM
There'll be an official shirt again for the World Stunts meeting 2005.

one question is that would you like to have a new design, or not. If yes, I welcome ideas too.
Should it be two-colours this time and some better graphs (maybe someone should design it with better drawing skills :), or the same as last year?

other question is your order, size, color, extra requests (pullover, stretch top, etc)
prices will be around last years.

thanks.

World Stunts Meeting 2005 / Programs on the Meeting
March 02, 2005, 10:46:09 PM
As the meeting is getting closer we should bring up this topic too :)

If everything runs smooth, we'll order the plane tickets with Akoss tomorrow.
we'll fly there on the 14th (thursday), have some time in Hannover, then -i guess- meet with KHR and go to Hameln.

Organizing the programfor the next three days is not my part this time, but of course I'll help when I can :)

but :)

we are flying back on the 19th, which is tuesday. I dunno when KHR has days off from his workplace, but we dont want to disturb too much there anyway.
The plane flying on monday goes at 10am, which seemed to early after the official goodbye on sunday late evening. ;)
So we decided to spend a half day and a night in Hannover, because the tuesday plane also goes at 10am :)
In the worst case we'll spend the night at the airport :), but I have already found an underground gothic/depeche mode club in Hannover, which has an 80s&Depeche Mode night every monday, with free admission :)
I thought we could have a goodbye-party there maybe, before we go back to our homelands :)

World Stunts Meeting 2005 / Trip from Hungary
February 15, 2005, 12:36:12 AM
I assumed that the meeting will be held between 15-17july, since this is good for KHR and the most of us.

and I have great news!

We already agreed that it'd be the cheapest to go by plane.,
Well, Air Berlin announced, that they'll start a direct flight from May 2005, every day around 10-11am there and back. This is great since KHR lives close to Hannover, no surplus travel fee is needed.

The price is OK, between 85 and 130EUR including everything,  depending when we order the tickets.
I suggest we should order them as soon as possible, the company accepts only credit card payment from hungary, which is not the best way, but what can we do. :)

one example which seems the best:

HUN->GER  14th july Budapest   12:45
GER->HUN  18th july Hannover  10:40

=94EUR

if we fly on the 13th it's 30EUR more, if on the 12nd it's 10EUR more.
there are only around 10-15 tickets available for this flight, so please reply quickly, should I order tickets for you too?

you can also check info on http://www.airberlin.com

info was also sent in mail to the ones involved :)

Stunts Questions / HOWTO: Disable security system

Start the game with the executable stunts_k.exe

then you don't hae to type anything - just press enter when it asks for the code, and play.

As you know Stunts is a DOS game, and its natural environment is a native dos system, like DOS,Win95, Win98,winMe

On any other system than these you might meet some difficulties running Stunts.

In the case of WinXP you can try playing from the internal DOS emulation shipped with XP -many do succeed to run the game on a reasonable speed, many don't.
If you choose using this method, you need to set your sound to PC Speaker in the Stunts setup.
If you want higher quality sounds, you need a program called VDMSound, grab it at http://vdmsound.sourceforge.net
Since I have no experience setting up VDMSound (I'm a Linux user) I'll leave this up to you.

The other alternative is DosBox. You can find it at http://www.dosbox.sourceforge.net

DosBox emulates a Dos window rich in features, and I was able to run stunts on my 850Mhz Celeron under gentoo linux (probably for windows you need somewhat stronger)  just as it runs on my 486PC, so it's perfect for racing.

The key for DosBox is its config file, called dosbox.conf (or in windows probably dosbox.cfg, i dunno. There are many programs to edit the settings of the config file,but we'll use a simple text editor, which is the easiest wax imho.

If you cant find the config file, start dosbox and write:
config -writeconf [pathtoconfigfile
it'll create a default config file for you.

Ok, now open up that nice config file and change the following settings after me:

1. Core Emulation[/u]

You might want to set

[cpu]
core=dynamic

but for me it brings the same speed as core=simple, so I didnt do this.

2. Scaling[/u]

Scaling is a way to resize the graphic output the game uses. It can eat much from your HW.
I supoose you wnat to play Stunts on fullscreen.

in this case search for these options and set them to the following:

[sdl]
fulldouble=false
fullfixed=false
fullresolution=0x0
output=surface

[render]
aspect=false
scaler=none

this will turn of scaling, and so if you are playing in a window it'll be very slow, but in fullscreen it's the fastest choice. You have to press ALT+ENTER to switch to fullscreen while DosBox runs, or set

[sdl]
fullscreen=true

If you prefer to play in a window change:

output=overlay

this will give ugly fonts, but great gamespeed.

3. Frameskip and CPU Cycles[/u]

this is also essential, and perfect settings mighr vary a lot depending on your system.

you wont even notice a frameskip of 1, but try to avoid higher numbers, since this is a simulation game. However for best racing performance you should set frameskip to 0. If the game runs to slow, change it to 1, or in the worst case 2. You can also change frameskip within dosbox CTRL+F8 raises one, and CTRL+F7 reduces one.

[render]
frameskip=0

CPU cycles is, basically said the speed of your emulated CPU. You'll need at least 3500 for enjoyable gameplay, I recommend 5000. Whil running DosBox you can raise it with CTRL+F12 (note this will make CPU usage higher, while framsekip on the contrary!), and reduce it with CTRL+F11

[cpu]
cycles=5000

Ok now you should try running stunts. Open up DosBox, and write the following things:

mount c /path/to/your/stunts
c:
stunts_k

this will start up stunts.
of course you might want to setup first - you can either choose sound blaster/roland/speaker - each of them is emulated perfectly.

Try to play a game, and watch your CPU usage if it reaches 100% or not (it's easy under linux, under windows you can notice it easily by the sound - if it chops/stops for a while then it's at 100%)

Ok, we have two possibilities now:

A.  The CPU usage is nowhere near 100%, the game runs perfectly.
Congratulations! Happy racing! You might want to set a better quality scaler, increase CPU Cycles, or something like this to make gameplay more enjoyable. I'll leave finding out these up to you.

B. The CPU usage reaches 100%, the game movement is jerky, control is bad.
Ok, let's see what we can do in this case:

1. Set your screen spolor depth to 256 colors

2. In the dosbox config file set

[mixer]
rate=11025

this makes sound quality worse. You could also try setting your sound in setup to Roland/P Speaker - it's faster.

3. raise frameskip value, 2 maximally

4. reduce cpu cycles, 3500 minimally.

5. reduce graphic quality within Stunts

If you did all of this and still the game is too slow, then probabyl your CPU has not enough processing power to run a correct emulation for Stunts. Buy a faster one, or a used 486/Pentium to play. But hopefully you'll find yourself playing Stunts, and enjoying it :)

If you have any questions write it here.

This FAQ was based on Joekaos's DosBox FAQ found at http://dosbox.sourceforge.net/wiki/index.php?page=RunningResourceDemandingGames and my own experiences.

Looks like I'm an addict :)

I was collecting the papers of all the chocolate I've eaten last year, and today I made a summary.

I spent 56000HUF (approx 225EUR) on the 32,5 kliograms of chocolate I've eaten last year.

85g chocolate every day in average.

January 02, 2005, 06:34:23 PM
I know the competition is dead - I've also lost the savegames, thats why :(

but there is a great news!

OpenTTD 0.3.5 is out, and it has now a satble internet multiplayer feature!

even better, 0.3.6 will probably contain the possibility to have maps 4 times bigger than the original tycoon maps.

Imagine a 10 player multiplayer game on a 4x map :)

I cant wait :)

DL it at http://www.openttd.com

it's free and mulitplatform.

Team Zone / Team Talk
December 07, 2004, 01:11:17 PM
I've created the Team Talk zone, which is a separate subforum for all the "active" teams.
I've also created usergroups the same name as the teams, and added all the members who are registered on the forum. A group moderator is assigned, he is in charge to add/remove members from the usergroup - of course I can do that too.

usergroup mods are:
Cork's Crew - Cork
Looping Warriors - Akoss
Damage Inc. - Krys
Mimas racing - Mingva
Meganium - Alan
Brixton - Leo Ramone

nobody except from the usergroup members can post, reply, view messages in the team forum.
This is a great ooportunity to share your replays (with the new file attachment function), comment tracks, make analysises, etc.

A topic in the old team zone stayed for all teams public too - this is the place where you can for example gather new members for your team.

If you have any questions or problems about the new team talk zone, also post it there - in this topic.

Competition and Website / Vote: 2005 'B season'
December 05, 2004, 12:09:16 PM
No, not like in 2003.

Do you think It'd be good to have a separate scoreboard, on the actual track, where registered pipsqueaks can send their NoRH times? Only based on trust,  just for comparison and fun.
This could also attract new pipsqueaks possibly.

Vote open for 14 days (i have to code it when you say yes :))
