You don't know what a surge protector is ?
This is a special mono or multi power supply to avoid electric voltage variations during storm.
Often they also have an on/off button.

If you keep your computer (or tv, or hi-fi, or even phone) connected to your power supply during a storm without that kind of protection, this is what may arrive in case a lightning creates a voltage variation :

If a lightning comes too close to your home, a fuse won't do its job fast enough and your electronic components will be over-powered and burn.
If you don't have that kind of surge protector, it's recommanded to turn off and disconnect the power cable of all electric elements with electronic parts when there's a storm : computers, Hi-Fi, phone, ...
My parents-in-law had a phone burnt once because of that.

Now that I see the pics, I do. In fact, I have 2 at home. One for the PC, and one for TV, Video Player, Sound System. I just didn't know it was called like that in English...
