Mmmm, what is facebook exactly ? Some useless personnal page thing ? What is the use of it that there is not on blog pages possibilities ?
Anyway, I don't have a blog and don't like to explain all my life on the web for everyone to see it. So, I never tried to find what facebook or myspace or other stuff like that can do. :P

Facebook is nothing like a blog, you can't blog on Facebook. Facebook is all about social networking. You can see what all your friends are doing and comment on each other's status reports and uploaded pictures etc.  + send public or private messages to each other. Also good for catching up on events (you can invite your friends to events or be invited to them and see who's coming and who's not coming). You can do thousands of other things too, but those are the most useful. Try it out and see if you like it. You are not forced to keep logging on if you don't :)

Well, seems like MySpace. Didn't like MySpace, I won't even try FaceBook then. Sorry, it seems useless for me. I don't want the whole world to know what I'm doing or how I feel, and I don't want to receive spam messages from other people about any online "event".
I'll keep browsing the web, find some websites/forums I like, join some very few communities, and simply keep it this way.

I'm not "social" enough to have thousand of virtual friends. I prefer less friends, but reliable and that I can meet IRL. Even if I only could join 1 WSM only, I find it much more valuable to have a dozen of good Stunts friends than thousands of useless virtual so-called friends from FaceBook or from anywhere else.

It seems I'm not in the mood to be part of the "web 2.0" idea where all people are always inter-connected. Maybe it's also why I don't use MSN. I don't want to enter the Matrix, I don't want to become a neuromancer always connected to the cyberspace, I'm not a machine-man (http://static.flickr.com/46/133081921_60986eea65_o.jpg).

Fair enough, except for two things:

1. Facebook is for your IRL friends, going by real names.

2. The "Events" are real, offline events.

As for MySpace, that is more a place for presenting yourself. On MySpace, you can make much more of a profile than on Facebook, and you can upload music.
Facebook is all about the social integration - a means to communicate with many of your friends and acquaintances at the same time (and much more), which is not really possible on MySpace. I'm never on MySpace anymore because I got bored with it. I'm not going to quit Facebook because it's really just like having a cell phone. You don't have to use it, but it allows some things if you want them.

Maybe I should do that :) But recently I'm actually a bit unhappy with Facebook because it's running too slowly.

The fact that you (or me) don't use it, it doesn't make it useless.

I know that sucks, but it's something my mother always said to me when I say something sucks, was useless or crappy and it came to my mind just now.

Title: Re: Stunts at Facebook
Post by: BonzaiJoe on October 26, 2008, 11:49:55 AM
Thank you ! :)

That kind of geography was always one of my strongest sides. But one of my friends has 22000 points... I don't understand how that is possible, and I think there would be more points to catch if my computer would run the game a bit faster. By the way, if you haven't done so yet, it is a good idea to lower the graphics level by pressing the eye-shaped button in the top left corner of the game window.

The Stunts group is called "Recruit new Stunts pipsqueaks". Search for it and join it.
However, the geography game doesn't have anything to do with the group - Zak, Alan Rotoi and I are friends on Facebook, so we can see each other's scores and compete. You should become friends with us! (CTG and SuperBrian are there too).

The game works awfully slow... is there any chance of speeding it up?
Title: Re: Stunts at Facebook
Post by: Duplode on October 29, 2008, 01:47:55 PM
Only thing I did was to reduce graphical detail (the eye icon on the top left corner) as BJ suggested, and it runs at an acceptable pace on my 96kbps connection (even if the initial loading takes long).
Title: Re: Stunts at Facebook
Post by: BonzaiJoe on October 29, 2008, 05:29:00 PM
My connection should be faster than that, but still it goes slow (it goes almost fast in the beginning but gets slower and slower, and I have never had more than 28 questions in Map Mayhem...). I think it has to do with your computer too. Maybe run it soon after having restarted, and without too many other things running.
Title: Re: Stunts at Facebook
Post by: Chulk on October 29, 2008, 06:32:20 PM
Yes, I decreased detail and turned sound of (it was getting on my nerves), but still I can't have more than 32-33 suitcases and around 25 at Map Mayhem, the only part that seems to work faster (and where I usually get my better scores) is City blitz.

I ran the game without any other applications running other than AV and Firewall... Suitcase shuffle works great, I did an all correct 37 suitcases there, over 10000, but then the rest doesn't help, I get distracted or relaxed or something... And still can't get more than around 25 questions in Map Mayhem. How did you do to get 35 Dup?

For me all games run at similar speeds, even when running it on FF3 from a pendrive. I find Map Mayhem to be easier than the others because it requires shorter/simpler mouse movements and the visual hints from the maps are, on average, recognized faster. Comparing the three games, City Blitz is the harder for me by some margin...

43 all correct in Suitcase shuffle for 13111 points. After that, only 4360 in Map and 5953 in City blitz. I lost a great chance, but it's my personal best.

44 suitcases for 13291. Then, as usual, I sucked.

45 for 15561! Then sucked again at Map Mayhem (I always do... How the hell did you did 35?) but did an all-time best City Blitz (10049) to get the lead and be the first over 30000!

We do it in English. And I have to say: if anyone beats me in Word Challenge, I'm bringing a crate of free beer to the next WSM :)

About Geo Challenge: your scores seem really tough! Currently I can't even run the game on this computer (it just never loads), but I'll try to see if I can play it somewhere else.

45 for 15561! Then sucked again at Map Mayhem (I always do... How the hell did you did 35?) but did an all-time best City Blitz (10049) to get the lead and be the first over 30000!

Actually, in my 28k shot I did ~42 in Map Mayhem - but that's not really more impressive than your performances at the suitcases I think... Anywyay I was waiting a while before attempting 30k, and I think this brings me enough motivation  ;) :)

About Word Challenge... Do you play in English or in your native languages?

We do it in English. And I have to say: if anyone beats me in Word Challenge, I'm bringing a crate of free beer to the next WSM :)
OK, I saw your score was really high. I'll try it a bit one of these days...

Geo challenge got a new section called 'Landmark Loco'. I just played again after all this time and did around 20k. New section is hard but should give room for higher scores than present highscore (set by Double D ;))

Also, I'm going to try Mini Golf party as I post this message.

Well, stuntsers signed me at Facebook, I would need to put some English information about myself in my profile. Pictures will be uploaded, soon - maybe including one from a Stunts meeting.

You can find him on my contact list.
