I just joined Facebook and found that many of you guys are already there - what's more, there's already a Stunts club! I'm really happy to see so many civile profiles of racemates!

Join the group!!!  ;)

Yes it is indeed fantastic to have Stunts at Facebook too :) I love Facebook <3

Mmmm, what is facebook exactly ? Some useless personnal page thing ? What is the use of it that there is not on blog pages possibilities ?
Anyway, I don't have a blog and don't like to explain all my life on the web for everyone to see it. So, I never tried to find what facebook or myspace or other stuff like that can do. :P

Facebook is nothing like a blog, you can't blog on Facebook. Facebook is all about social networking. You can see what all your friends are doing and comment on each other's status reports and uploaded pictures etc.  + send public or private messages to each other. Also good for catching up on events (you can invite your friends to events or be invited to them and see who's coming and who's not coming). You can do thousands of other things too, but those are the most useful. Try it out and see if you like it. You are not forced to keep logging on if you don't :)
But we can't be quite sure.

you are more and more like a professional facebook advertiser and explainer. ever considered volunteering to the facebook team? :)

Well, seems like MySpace. Didn't like MySpace, I won't even try FaceBook then. Sorry, it seems useless for me. I don't want the whole world to know what I'm doing or how I feel, and I don't want to receive spam messages from other people about any online "event".
I'll keep browsing the web, find some websites/forums I like, join some very few communities, and simply keep it this way.

I'm not "social" enough to have thousand of virtual friends. I prefer less friends, but reliable and that I can meet IRL. Even if I only could join 1 WSM only, I find it much more valuable to have a dozen of good Stunts friends than thousands of useless virtual so-called friends from FaceBook or from anywhere else.

It seems I'm not in the mood to be part of the "web 2.0" idea where all people are always inter-connected. Maybe it's also why I don't use MSN. I don't want to enter the Matrix, I don't want to become a neuromancer always connected to the cyberspace, I'm not a machine-man.

BonzaiJoe

Fair enough, except for two things:

1. Facebook is for your IRL friends, going by real names.

2. The "Events" are real, offline events.
But we can't be quite sure.

BonzaiJoe

As for MySpace, that is more a place for presenting yourself. On MySpace, you can make much more of a profile than on Facebook, and you can upload music.
Facebook is all about the social integration - a means to communicate with many of your friends and acquaintances at the same time (and much more), which is not really possible on MySpace. I'm never on MySpace anymore because I got bored with it. I'm not going to quit Facebook because it's really just like having a cell phone. You don't have to use it, but it allows some things if you want them.
But we can't be quite sure.

Maybe I should do that :) But recently I'm actually a bit unhappy with Facebook because it's running too slowly.

The most important application of Facebook is BrewSocial - you can rate beers and add comments. ;D

Well, I don't have a cell phone. :D The one I had during WSM 2006 was my wife's. ;)
I'm archaic (and proud of it :P). ;D

I definitely do prefer Xing (as it's used far more often in Germany).

The same here with iWiW, the Hungarian version.

MySpace, Facebook, Xing, iWiW, ...So many useless websites I'll never use. :P ;D
