Differences between Internal PC Speaker and PC Speaker (no digital sounds)?

I ran setup.exe in Stunts v1.0, and I discovered two of the PC speakers
I didn't spot any differences, they sounded exactly the same
But what, if you know what are the differences?

The second option is "No digital effects", which makes me assume that there will be no digital effects, but only synthetised ones. I suppose that means music, but no other sounds? Or maybe music and engine, but no skidding / impacts?

It might be a difference modern speakers can't render anymore because they automatically run the higher option. Is the sound for PC speakers and a sound card even different anymore?
