What?s this "Stunts-Portal"?

First of all: Thanks Zak for opening this new topic so fast! What would we do without you?  



For all those Stuntsmaniacs who didn?t join the discussion about a stunts-portal the last days, here is a short summary:



I was a bit uncertain, if it?s good that we have more and more competitions. I feared that this will split the stuntscommunity to the different sites and that we?ll have no BIG competition. Zak came with the idea that we can make one big stunts-portal (maybe at www.stuntsportal.net/.org/.com) which will content all the scoreboards, a big forum, links to the individual sites and a lot of other stuff. Then Zak opened this topic, so that all Stuntsfans are invited to bring in new ideas for the "Stunts-portal-project".  (you can find the details of the discussion here: pub66.ezboard.com/fzaksstuntsandracingpageforumfrm8.showMessage?topicID=9.topic

Generally, I like this idea. It's wonderful if you see all this enthusiasm.

It's a little bit like EU  

And like in the EU, there are many things which we have to clarify.

As the ISA-HP-designer, I don't want to give up our design.

Or as Zak said: " (...) I need a bit of individuality.  I need the choice to form my site as I want, and not to have to ask other people that I can do it, or not."

I had a long discussion with Pershing.  

Every site/design has it's own charm, do you want to give this up?

Hey Ruepel,

we will have another long discussion about the   - Smiley.  



About the design:

I think we should make a neutral design for the Portal. I mean with a black or a silver background. The other sites will be still active, so they?ll have their own designs. I know that the problem of the ISA-site is that it?s only dedicated to the competition. So when we make a Stunts-Portal the individual-site will be unnecessary. But Ruepel, we can make a compromise:

Let?s make a Design-contest:

Everybody can send in a design for the new Stunts-Portal. Zak or/and the ISA will publish the designs on their sites and make a Vote about them.



Is this ok?

but two suggestions:



1. if we decided which design we`ll use, we need a clear directory structure too, because all the uploaders have to understand it!



2. If we have an unified directory structure for the site and the designs, why not to make it skinnable? Everyone could use his favourite skin, and the default skin will be the winner of this challenge.

About this Stunts Portal:



In my opinion, I still think Zak currently has the biggest competition and his site should stay up. As I read some peoples' comments on this board, I think everyone should each keep their own site and not give up their own design. I think these people are right that they should still be able to form their own site as they want. I also think they're right that each site should have a different type of competition like: a competition just for beginners, the Indy competition, etc. I like that idea. And about the forum, can't we just use this forum (Zak's EZboard) for the Stunts Portal instead of closing this one and making a whole new one? ------------

I`d rather install YaBB instead of EZBoard, it takes only 1 hour, and runs freely as long as I have space on the server.

Hey Neil,



why do you have to underline "your board"? For me it expresses the following emotion:



Neils brain: Zak = enemy; He?s a looser. He can make his board if he wants, I don?t need him. I?m better than he.



As I see it you are against the stunts-portal and against Zaks site, because you fear that you?ll get no pipsqueaks for your competition. You are seeing Zak, Roy, ISA and Charles as evil enemies. You are just breaking the rule not to say (you don?t say it, but you express it) "my site is better than ...". That?s why I don?t like you. You just want to be the best, you have a complex at this point. You didn?t really get the sense of al this stunts-competitions. We don?t make them, because we want to show the others that we are better drivers or that we can make a better stunts-site. We are making all this competitions, because we want Stunts to be still alive. We don?t want that someday everybody will forget about this marvellous game.

And so IMO there?s no place for such "know-it-better" and uncooperative people like you in the Stuntsworld.

He may have the biggest competition right now and I may have only had one so far (one that hardly anyone entered), but that doesn't mean that I'm trying to boost my next competition way higher so I'll have more pipsqueaks than him.

I didn't say I was against the stunts-portal. I like Zak's big competition site, and maybe I'd even enter if Stunts 1.0 was supported. But just because it's not supported and I don't enter his, that doesn't mean I  hate him. Maybe instead of a Stunts Portal we can just do a big site with the following on Zak's friend's server:  a scoreboard for each site's competition with each site's current contest-related updates, links to all the Stunts sites with contest, and a forum.



Oh and BTW, I'm not worried about losing pipsqueaks because of this big Stunts Portal.

No I'm not. I even entered Charles's current competition. I may not have submitted my time yet, but I'm working long and hard for my best and I have entered. Also, you should know that I have known Charles for quite a long time and we are good on-line friends.

I may have my site on a payed host, I may be trying to make one of the biggest Stunts sites with everything on it that's Stunts related, and I may now have a CSC Gold EZboard while this one still isn't CSC Gold, but all this doesn't mean that I'm trying to be the best in the Stunts community, have the best Stunts site, and have the best competition.

It's called a signature. You can log into your EZboard profile and set your custimized signature so it'll be at the end of every post you make. Lots of people do this.



And why are you making such a big deal out of one little underline (that I can easily remove) in my last post? I just never heard of YaBB, so I didn't know what it was until Zak started talking about it. ------------

In my opinion, you just want me to download something I don't want to download. I recently sent Zak an E-mail telling him that I don't have a problem with Stunts 1.0 and I don't know why it shouldn't be supported. This is just like a long time ago someone talked me into downloading ICQ and setting it up on my system (I didn't want to download it then) and now no one's talking to me on it and I'm getting nothing on it but spam junk and advertising for adult-related sites. Before I got CSC Gold, a lot of members on my board were complaining that they didn't like the ads (especially the pop-ups) and they would only post if they saw CSC Gold. Now I have CSC Gold and those members are now gone. They just wanted me to spend money. But I didn't spend all that money for nothing in my opinion because I didn't like the pop-ups myself. It's like talking me into doing something I don't want to do.
