Congratulations on Gold and WR for Gyurta !
But we can't be quite sure.

Now, North Korea winning gold in women's weightlifting, that seems a bit more suspect. When I heard that North Korea had won gold medals, I immediately thought "it must be weightlifting".

Exactly the same story, see my previous post. Another communist, uncontrollable country with good lobby.

Uncontrollable? Who should control them?
And do you think China is a communist country? That shows something about your level of insight into the situation...
But we can't be quite sure.

Today:

Male handball: Hungary - Croatia, it will be a damned hard match (I can' name another single sport where the elite is that balanced), prediction: 23-27
Male water polo: Hungary - Romania, it's obligatory to win, because 1, being three times title holders, we must survive the group phase 2, Romania is a lot weaker 3, we hate Romania very much :D; prediction: 12-7
Male swimming, 200 m individual medley: László Cseh qualified to the final with the second best result behind Lochte. However, Cseh is not enough good to beat Phelps. Predictions: 1 Lochte 1:54.10; 2 Phelps 1:55.05; 3 Pereira 1:55.95; 4 Cseh 1:56.00

Because they used to be a lot worse in the past, showing their real "genetic" skills to sports. 110 m hurdles? Swimming? They were nowhere, even when only amateur sportsmen could participate. Most of their current results are based on biotechnology (the same goes for the American swimmers, probably they use different - less harmful? less effective? - chemicals).

To train a good sportsman, you have to start it early, at the age around 5-7 years. Fluent training will cause slow fluent improvements in performance. That's why I think that sudden excellent time results are suspicious (for example 2 seconds improvement in one year / 100 m). Swimming the last 50 m faster than Lochte... that's something you can't show up suddenly without dopes.

It's not racism. It only means I lost the last traces of faith in the purity of Olympic Games by this evident, but unrevealed cheat.

Before you start to charge our swimmers (why not, Gyurta won with WR): in Hungary, the governmental subsidy for sports is so low that they simply don't have money for high-tech chemicals - not even for normal training conditions (think on Fazekas and his outdated stanozolol). You need a lot of money to get the newest, undetectable steroids / biological dopes to dodge WADA. So: if somebody from a poor country produces a negative sample, it must be considered as a really negative one (if he/she dopes, it will be recognized easily). While in the case of Yang, Ye, Li, Chen, Ding, Wong, other stupid short names (but I could say Michael or Ryan from the USA, too)... well... you know my opinion. Keep their samples, analyze them again in two years and you will get the answer.

Ah yes, car racing: even you can say 10 other countries without serious car industry, but with talented car pipsqueaks. They are only good in sports where dopes count.

Btw if the results of these sport events are based on the number of inhabitants... but they aren't. It's not a reason.

How strange: we are traditionally good in "wet" sports (swimming, water polo, kayak / canoe), although Hungary is in the center of the continent without seaside.

It is always the hardest against the Croatians. They know us very much, especially the keeper, who is a star player in the Hungarian championship. Probably it is more possible to upset any other top team...17-23 in the 54th minute...

Today: 6th place in shooting, 5th place in female judo (Joó injured in the quarter finals, it is a miracle to win a match after it when she wasn't even able to walk...). HUN-ROM water polo in progress. Good Hungarian times in the swimming heats.

Edit: CRO-HUN 26-19, HUN-ROM 17-15.

2-1-2, not that bad so far, although I miss some surprise medals.

BonzaiJoe

Wheeeeeeeee, Olympic Gold, finally!  ;D Surprise rowing victory for the lightweight double-sculler.

1-2-2 now. Rowing, Rowing, Shooting, Rowing, Badminton.

Two more medals are already sure (badminton men's double, gold or silver, and sailing: gold, silver or bronze. All our swimmers fucked up though. No swimming medals for Denmark. Cycling track team finished 5th. Missed bronze match by 0.1 secs. Wozniacki got thrashed by Serena. Female handballers are out. Male handballers have won 3/3 so far.
But we can't be quite sure.

with good lobby.

How could North Korea lobby for anything, anywhere?  :o

I feel a tad bit ashamed again to be Hungarian, reading all this racism, hate, suspicions and accusations here. If only ever we would invest our energy wasted for hate into improving ourselves we, and the country would not stand where it is. But this is going off-topic so I rather stop here.

I have my preconceptions and porblems with China. But what BJ said is true. Their talent seeking, training and raising process is second to none (but inhumane).

Akoss Poo a.k.a. Zorromeister

Well...

Swimming competitions were finished. No more medals, only finals from Hungarian swimmers. Hosszú and Kis left without a medal, but good 6th place from Boglárka Kapás (800m freestyle) and good 5th place from men's 4x100 medley relay. Personally I find the latter really amazing.

The same with judo, Bor finished 7th. Sidi collected a 8th place in shooting, his best event is still to come - though he is always svcking in Olympics...

Terrible continuation from the handball team. Of course we have the key game against Serbia left, but the performance against Spain (22-33) did not left anything promising...

The water polo team beat Great Britain without a doubt (6-17). Tomorrow we'll play against the USA to decide 3rd/4th place in the group. Possible opponents in the quarter final: Italy, Spain or Croatia - I would prefer Spain from them.

The female water polo team is in the semi final now. They beat Russia (11-10) in the quarter final! Good result, very good result!

The hammer throw final is starting now! Krisztián Pars (=Krisztián SARS) have a good medal chance there, though Murofushi and Kozmus are very dangerous as well. I hope the lobby was good enough in order to avoid him being deprived from his potentially won medal.

By the way, Hungary is 3-1-3 now on the medal table, since Krisztián Berki has just won gold medal in gymnastics. A surprise bronze medal has also won lately by Péter Módos in wrestling.
