It seems a more advanced stage in the making progress. The default track is similar but different. Beatiful articles.

This seems to be an oktober 1990 issue. so perhaps a late publication because the release was in that month (right?).
But that also means that the rebranding was very late in the process.

Indeed the track is very similar to the eventual default track. The bottom half is practically the same.
But in this version the two routes are more balanced. And more like hard driving.

The dashboard is unfamiliar to me. (Does anyone know?) The view from the car shows a tribune. I think that it is a horizon.

The default track looks like Hard Driving track.

The dashboard is from the (test Drive?) countach but the frame is different.

Attached a screenshot of both default tracks and a comparison image.
The default0 really has the same elements in more or less the same order as the hard driving track.

Great job but the chicane at the begining can be remove. It's not present on the scan I provide.

Yes exactly. I did the same job than you. It's a surprise ti see that Hard Driving is very close to Stunts with them default track.

I think to avoid problem with Atari Tangen (maker of Hard Driving l, they changed for the final version.

By the way, it's maybe an explanation why the Atari version was never release....

Hard driving was released for home computers.
For:    Amiga, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST, Commodore 64, DOS, Sega Mega Drive, Lynx, ZX Spectrum
But indeed. When hard driving went from the arcades to homes, they couldn't have the track anymore.
I don't think it would have been a problem if it stayed in the arcades because it was a different kind of driving experience.

But it was good for marketing because Hard Driving fans would recognize the track.
Also, good for play testing if you base a game on something familiar. So it made sense they made and published the track.

So we now have 3 tracks we know they used/made during production.
VANCOUVR.TRK
the one we dubbed Skidmarks.trk
and Default0.trk

  • start/finish before the hill
  • on hill split,
    (right) stunt track,
  • jump
  • left corner,
  • looping
  • jump
  • 270 corner
  • cross
  • merge
  • under bridge
  • finish.
    All the same for hard driving and stunts.
    Same for the other (speed) route. But that has no stunt elements.,
    (maybe the corkscrew should not be there in my track either)
    so, no. This is a copy.
