No, there are rules for beer production - special fermentation, etc. They did a lot longer fermentation with a bit different conditions, that's all I think. And I also think it can be delicious: the article said it has a very full taste, somewhere between hard drinks and beers.

CTG, you didn't tell me anything new in ZakStunts news! I tasted S?rk?ny (=Dragon) Beer last week; I've bought one bottle for 74(!) HUF (=0,30 EUR) in SPAR(R) - and yes, it was OK. It's made by Sopron Beer Factory, producer of my favourite "cheap" beer, Soproni (=former Soproni ?szok; 99-109 HUF), and its quality is almost on the level of Borsodi. (But I'm afraid S?rk?ny Beer don't cause erection...)

Well, let's rate some beers coming to my mind!

Kozel (CZE) 9.5
Tatran (SVK) 9.5
?ari? (SVK) 9
Topvar (SVK) 9
Borosty?n (HUN) 9
De Koninck (BEL) 9
Soproni (HUN) 8.5 (much more cheaper than the others with 8.5 pts!)
Dreher Classic (HUN) 8.5
Zlat? Ba?ant (SVK) 8.5
Stella Artois (BEL) 8.5

CTG and others who know some of the mentioned beers: please rate them between 0 and 10, and I'll do the "scoreboard" of beers based on the taste of Stunts pipsqueaks!

okay, i'll do my list tonight :)

Still waiting for it! :)
Important note to my ratings: as I wrote earlier, Czech and Slovak brands has some different versions. My ratings concern the best ("12%") version. I have to tell this because I've just seen Kozel beer in SPAR, but because of its low price (109 HUF) and low alcohol content (4,0%) that must be equivalent with the weakest ("8%" or "9%") version, and I'm sure that it wouldn't deserve 9.5 pts!

Damn I went to Tesco yesterday and recognized that I tasted all the beers btw 80 and 250 HUF. Usrin, do you have any idea where to find new brands?

Quote from: CTGUsrin, do you have any idea where to find new brands?
Yes, I do: go to Slovakia! I'm afraid you would have some trouble with finding this miraculous country, so don't forget the following: if you cross the bridge from Kom?rom or Esztergom, you get into Slovakia. There you can find many excellent "new" brands in any shop. :)

The bridge from V?mosszabadi (near to B?csa) also leads you to Slovakia, but there's no major town on the border, therefore the selection of beers is less wide.

Weekend is coming (for me, it's here)... so: CTG, don't forget to rate the beers you've already tasted! I'm also waiting ratings from other pipsqueaks, who know some Hungarian beers (participants of the World Stunts Meeting 2004 or new Hungarian pipsqueaks) or just want to add some brands from other countries to the list! (Well, I think my rankings will contain only those beers which will be rated by more than 50% of voters.)

Current rankings are available here: http://bolyai.elte.hu/~usrin/stuntsbeer.xls. I'm going to taste some new beers, and re-taste some others that I can't remember of enough clearly. :) And I recommend to CTG to taste Czech and Slovak beers in their homeland: for example I'm sure that the Kozel exported to Hungary is not the same as Kozel 12% available in Slovakia. (In general, beers are cheaper in Slovakia, but you can't get Kozel 12% for 109 HUF=17 SKK=0,43 EUR there...)

Current "podium" is the following:
1. Stella Artois 8,75
2. Dreher Classic 8,67
3. Zlat? Ba?ant 8,50

Topvar was "12% pivo", Kozel only 8 or 9, I don't remember.

Strange, I gave good mark on Pilsner Urquell. I didn't like it very much but I felt it's a quality beer. Like in football: I don't like the french national team, but I see they are good.
