Nobody mentioned so far: Usain Bolt (JAM) is the fastest man on earth, 100m in 9.72!  :o
Really impressive! Even more considering he said 200m is his specialty!
Yes, it is me. No, I'm not back at racing (for now...)

Muhahahaha, Sidney Crosby got no prizes. Ovechkin did. Even if PHI killed Caps. ;D

CTG

Malkin stayed in Pittsburgh but... no more Hossa for Penguins! ;D

Long time no ice hockey post, so here's one.

Alba Volán will participate in the Erste Bank Austrian Ice Hockey League (EBEL) next year, too.

Opponents are again: Klagenfurter AC, Villacher SV, Vienna Capitals, Red Bull Salzburg, Black Wings Linz, Graz 99ers, Innsbrucker Haie, Olimpija Ljubljana (SLO), Acroni Jesenice (SLO).

The point system (each Elite "A" level international player means a certain point value, and the foreign players, too) will be stricter than next year: 5 points less available per team. What's more, Hungarian international players are now also "A" level players, who have point value... That's why Alba Volán sent away the Hungarian international players who are just 3rd-4th-5th line players in Alba and in the national team, too, and called up to the squad some new young Hungarian players, who haven't yet invited to the national team. The domestic players aren't worse than the Slovenians and Austrians, Alba was weaker than them becuase they couldn't afford quality foreign players from abroad, like all other teams. This year maybe they will have a bit more money, and they are thinking in North European players instead of more expensive North American ones. They need one really good goalie plus a complete line imported from abroad, to improve last year's performance. Fortunately none of the key players left the team. The shitty foreign players also sent away, they want to keep, the only good one, the Latvian Galvins, who played well also on the World Championships this year. His fate is not decided yet, negotiations are still under way. The new foreign players will arrive in August.

Tragedy in Hungarian sport: György Kolonics, two-times olympic champion, more than 10 times world champion of canoe, died during training because of a sudden heart attack. He prepared for Beijing in C-2, having a great chance to win a medal again. He was 36 years old.

Rest in peace!  :'(

American swimming star, Jessica Hardy was caught on using dopes (even the B-test is positive). I hope to see more disqualified American sprinters, swimmers; especially Michael Phelps.

Bahh... sad and stupid injury just before the Olympic Games: Anita Görbicz, best female handball player of Hungary made a serious accident - at home. She was cooking and somehow the hot oil poured on her leg. She suffered a tertiary burn (quite serious level :-\) and maybe she has to leave out Beijing. :(

BonzaiJoe

That is very unlucky...

But of course it must be because she's a maleish Helen who doesn't know her way around the kitchen as she should, because she's been doing maleish things too much :)
But we can't be quite sure.

Akoss: how do you know BJ's password to this Forum?  ??? ;D

Görbicz is cute, femalish and very talented player.

She didn't leave. Nice victory against Sweden. Your GK (I think Palinger was her name) really did well in those last minutes with 2 players out for Hungary!

About Argentina: Paula Pareto (22 YO) won our 1st bronce medal in Judo -48Kg.
Yes, it is me. No, I'm not back at racing (for now...)

I decided to watch some of the games before going to bed last night and guess what was on TV - Brazil v. Hungary in Female Handball! Too bad we didn't win (Hungary drawn in the last second from a direct foul... :'(), but there was a nice reaction - and great energy! - from our girls in the second half. And we still have hopes of qualification, if only a bit slim. :) And BTW, there's really something about Görbicz, she plainly stands out from a crowd...

I should mention as well we got our first medals too; like for Argentina, both were bronzes and in Judo: Ketleyn Quadros (Female, <55) and Leandro Guilheiro (Male, <73).

So far the olympics are not going the rightest way for the Hungarians.

Really poor performance for our fencers. I don't exactly know the name of each fencing categories, but in one of them, we had the recent world and a former European champion in our squad, and none of them won any medal. Best result is 4th place so far.

Good start for the female handball team (I'm still sad about the unlucky male team who miss the Games) against Sweden, then a very annoying draw against Brazil. In the end, we almost lost. The match had some key factors: the unusual defensive style of the South Americans (Hungarians don't like to play against 5+1 or 4+2 which was done by Brazil, only against the usual 6+0 syte), the Polish referees (surprisingly our friends were against us: Brazil made a lot of uncalled 2 min exclusion worthy fouls, which were unpunished by the refs - most prominent: 1 min to go, the Brazilian girl is lying on the ball deliberately to avoid Hungarian fastbreak, no 2 min call; while on the other side, even slighter fouls turned out to be 2 min exclusions), undisciplined play of Tóth, deconcentrated Görbicz at 7 m throws. We have to solve the problems of offensive play against the 5+1/4+2 defensive play, the Koreans are good at this, too, and their players are of higher standards than the Brazilians. The Germany match will be a key game, the chances are 50-50. The Russians are very strong, but their style suits our team I think, we might be able to beat them. At least 3rd place in the group is needed to avoid a meeting against top favourite Norway.

Water polo: disappointing draw against Montenegro in the first match (10-10), we wasted our 3 goal lead during the match. But probably this was the hardest match in the group, and we can still clinch top position there - which would mean a secured place in the medal round (top 4). The female team beat the Netherlands (11-9), relatively good play, although I think the difference between the two goalies yielded the victory for us.

Swimming: that's were I'm quite satisfied. Silver medal for Cseh (400 medley), beating Lochte. He also swam well on 200 butterfly, 2nd best time in the heat round. Our other swimmers also did their best: 6th place for Kis G., 5th best time for Mutina in the heat round (women's 200 freestyle). F*ck off doped American and Australian swimmers!

Tennis: Ágnes Szávay lost 6:4 3:6 5:7 to home favourite Jie Zheng (China) in an excellent and very long, heroic battle. She has a chance to cure this disappointment in the doubles event with Gréta Arn on her side.

Other sports: we suck in judo and boxing as always in the olympics after big (medal) hopes (though Miklós Ungvári's match was a clear referee cheat against him, according to the Hungarian judo experts)... Sidi shoot himself into 6th place. Dorina Böczögö finished in 52nd place in gymnastics. I remarked this only because of her funny name.  ;D
