Quote from: CTG on August 08, 2012, 02:09:25 PMYes, they are. I said silver because I saw he was already celebrating so much after the semi. I think he was way too self-confident. Ungvári's silver was also predictable as his team said the opponent is weak, has no stamina, etc. right before the final. When a Hungarian sportsman is sure in his victory, it rarely ends with a real success. I prefer the modest talents.

Quote from: CTG on August 08, 2012, 02:09:25 PMIf we lose after 16-12 in half time, it will be typical. And we will...

Shut up and FORZA ITALIA!!! ;D

It happened in Atlanta, 1996 the last time... Hungary men's water polo team has been eliminated from the tournament. We lost 9-11 to Italy in the quarter final... No fourth gold medal in the row, marring this fantastic Olympic day for us to a big extent.

The end of something great: our water polo team won't win the 4th gold in a row.

We really didn't play well in the tournament...

A good day for Hungary!

6-2-3  vs 2-4-3 and you have about twice the population we have, so
3-1-1.5 vs 2-4-3  -> 11.5 - 13. Still leading  ;D. But probably no more medals, as the handball team kept sucking in the quarter final :-(
But we can't be quite sure.

Hungary vs. SWEDEN in the semi final! A never returning chance for our team to win the first ever men's handball team Olympic medal!!! An opponent which is not stronger than us... they couldn't even beat Montenegro in the WCH qualifiers, so they will miss next WC (unlike us, who beat Norway).

Btw as your country comparison battle is quite close, you should use a more exact population ratio, which is around 1.8 in real (9.96 vs. 5.55 million).

Edit: corrected, but then Danish data should also be updated (my data were from Wikipedia).

Argentina's day ended up being a good one though it started badly.
Male volley lost to Brazil 3-0, no chances there. A really young team looking forward to be a serious threat in Rio 2014, hopefully.
Male basketball team beat Brazil and are playing in Semifinals for the third straight Olympic game. Rival in USA, so we're pretty fucked up. Maybe we can do it again like we did in 2004, but chances are really low.
Female hockey team beat Great Britain 2-1 and once again secured a medal for Argentina. Since '96 we are always in top 4 at every big event (Champions Trophy, World Cup, Olympic Games). Rival will we the almighty Netherlands, always a tough team to beat. Should be a pretty tight match.
Yes, it is me. No, I'm not back at racing (for now...)

To tell the truth, we sucked against all the relevant opponents (USA wasn't that strong). The oldies - Kásás, Biros, Kis, Szécsi, etc. - have to retire now, their time seems to be over. Too bad, we don't have any young talents in the pocket. Expect at least 5 poor years in water polo.

Today:

Female K-1: Danuta Kozák is good, but I don't see the power in her to become an olympic champion. Prediction: bronze medal.

Female K-2: Katalin Kovács and Natasa Janics are two time title holders, but they are getting older and older. Probably they are still good for a silver or bronze.

Male K-4: as for me it's our weakest unit for today, 5th or 6th place is realistic, bronze medal would be a good result.

Male running, 200 m: the semis were funny, both Jamaican fooled with the opponents. Blake pushed hard in the first 120 m, then slowed down extremely and almost payed for it (20.01, followed by 20.02 and 20.03 contestants) - I think at least ~0.8 is still in his feet and he'll be able to run WR. Bolt is a different case, his first 150 m was weak mediorce (no suffering, but not so lazy), then he slowed down a bit and finished with 20.18. Fast, really fast, but not so impressive. However, it also can be a trick to mislead Blake. Prediction:1 Blake 19.15 WR; 2 Bolt 19.29; 3 Spearmon 19.65

Male running, 800 m: I want to see another WR tonight. Rudisha is in form this year, can be good enough for 1:40.50 (haven't seen the qualifications, is he there anyway? :D )

BJ: what happened to the Danish wonder runner, Wilson Kipketer? (I know he's old but is he still in athletics as a trainer or something?)

3-1-1.5 vs 2-4-3  -> 11.5 - 13

11.5 - 13? What kind of point system do you use? :D

Gold 3, silver 2, bronze 1: 12.5 - 17
Gold 2, silver 1.5, bronze 1: 9 - 13
Number of medals: 5.5 - 9

Oh, you used 3-1-1. But why?
