Egyed - Bácsa FC 1-2, great start in the spring! 5th place in the league, but only 4 pts behind the leader. ;D

Where do Bácsa play? Do you ever go to watch their games? Thomas and I often go to matches in the 2nd and 3rd leagues. It's a great feeling to be part of the small fan groups and observe the strange local quirks in different suburbs of Copenhagen. It's like taking a time travel to football as it was in the 60's or 70's.
But we can't be quite sure.

Bácsa, my homeland (formerly called Nagybácsa, see USC 2004/05) is the northernmost district of Györ, close to the Hungarian-Slovakian border. It used to be a fishing village in the middle age (and even in the late 19th century), but when Györ started to grow, it became the part of the town (joined in 1966). Nowadays it's a "garden suburb" of Györ, even the mayor lives there.

Bácsa FC was founded in 1994 and they started in the 7th class. They could win it in 1997 (oh, that one was a legendary season!), then 2nd place of 6th class in 1999 (we deserved the title, but... I'll tell it later), since that they are in 5th class with quite a hectic performance. I used to watch their matches in the late 90s, but since I live in Budapest, I can follow their results only from the newspaper and internet.

As you can see, it was an extremely tight finish between Tápszentmiklós and Bácsa FC - even the goal difference was almost the same (+80 and +79). The last round of the competition seemed to be an easy one for Bácsa: home match versus Pázmándfalu, far the weakest team in the league (sometimes they played with 8-9 players in the last few rounds, suffering a lot of humiliating knockouts). I wanted to watch the game, because I was almost sure about the championship title. But arriving to the pitch I was surprised to see that our team is playing versus... our junior team? WTF? It turned out that Pázmándfalu gave up the championship, they did not come to the last match. So, the league gave us the 3 pts with "3-0" automatically - however, Bácsa could have scored 10 or even more goals in this match...

Sounds like a case of bribery. Although it's hard to believe there's a lot of money involved in that league :-)

It's a really goal-heavy and uneven league by the way.
But we can't be quite sure.

I don't think it was an organized cheat - simply a huge unlucky coincidence (such retirements from the league were quite common in that era).

About the power levels: what did you expect from such a low class championship? :D

(I remember the 1996/97 season when they won the 7th class, beating most of the rivals by 4-10 goals ;D)
