Keep an eye on dreadnaut (2nd) vs Alan Rotoi (1st) duel: this is the top derby of round 3.

That sure is a six-pointer!

Ah, pity! I don't like that one, I should have added more water :(

Don't worry, it's not at all a track-breaking shortcut.

Looks like I'll be the unskilled champion no matter how hard I try...  ::)

Who knows... Cas and afullo are still left as your future opponents. Your overall time is not that far behind them. So keep going!

Daniel3D

O, i'll keep going. Hope to have some more time to race than half an hour/ hour per track.
but some things i just can't do.
*keeping a constant speed (in corners) ==  ???does it matter if you use keyboard of joystick?
*and those shortcut jumps sideways to cut corners,,,
*manual shifting (i will utterly fail at the Pontiac track, haha)

But i like the races and don't care about the position..

but some things i just can't do.

My two cents on these:

  • Cornering: For the most part, loss of control happens when we steer harder than the car speed allows us to. That being so, you want to steer as little as you can get away with. Tapping the left/right arrows or releasing them every so often instead of holding them continuously tends to help, as does hitting the apexes in a clean racing line. On input devices, keyboards are the way. The input is digital no matter what, so an analog joystick only introduces an extra layer of awkwardness.
  • Manual shifting: That's kinda hard for me to comment usefully on, because I don't remember my own learning process clearly, and it was mostly done in other racing games. In any case, I believe listening to the engine sound helps with identifying and developing a feeling for shift points. On controls, I find shifting with A and Z much easier than with Space and Enter, but opinions vary on that point. Lastly, as you get the hang of the basic technique and become able to roughly match your auto times, you'll want to explore the tricks through which you can actually get an advantage from manual gears, such as early shifting on jumps, or choosing the gear you want to be in upon landing.
  • Sideways jumping: These are a matter of controlled turning and/or sliding to prepare the jump, and of countersteering to make the car snap back on landing (and, not infrequently, of a hefty dose of RH to make it all work out). They get more natural as you gradually get used to how the cars behave near the limit. Some things, though, such as bridge corner slides, remain challenging no matter what. (On a tangential note, the one with the Melange at the final corner of Z236 is brutal...)
