What about restarting the permanent competition? (see below)

Great idea!

I've been looking into automating the permanent competition, and it's not too difficult. The only thing, I think it's a bit... uninteresting: most tracks have already incredible records, probably all driving Indy, stuck there for more than ten years. Then again, there's no information about which cars were used.

So I thought about this:

  • we archive the current permanent competition
  • we clear up the scoreboards, and restart with the 6 original tracks
  • I add automatic upload, and store the replays on the website
  • these replays are public and downloadable
  • scoreboards filtered by car
  • every year, we add a new track!
Everyone can of course resubmit their original replays, and they'll start at the top of the scoreboard, but these time the replays will be there for everyone to see :)

1, If there's no sign for the car, it was Indy.
2, We should keep the old records. They are strong, but not THAT strong.
3, Closed tracks should stay. ;D
4, No public replays, please!

BonzaiJoe

Yes, good idea. Let's get rid of the closed tracks. They're completely arbitrary. And let's have public replays. We're too far into the future for secrecy.
But we can't be quite sure.

They are indeed history, that's why I would archive the whole page. And we can reintroduce them in the future, but I think that a competition starting with 12 tracks would be too "diluted" for the number of pipsqueaks around.

- I would like to stay with the records. Anyway automatic upload replays and publishing them it's ok for me.
- Closed tracks are nonsens but if you like keep them.
- Erase the GHOSTS from the records.

Don't be so strict with yourself. Chulk, Cordi and the others should stay on the list. ;D
Am I on the list? I mean, apart from Default that became an official ZCT
Yes, it is me. No, I'm not back at racing (for now...)

12th on Bernie's and 7th on Skid's.
I vaguely remember racing on those now that you mention it

My opinion:

YES to deleting closed tracks
YES to archiving old records and to start with a clean scoreboard. Old records should be clearly visible though.
YES to public replays
YES to car filtering - this would add a lot of extra layers for fun racing

not sure about every year a new track. Which track? Maybe the best ZakStunts track voted for the year?

and YES to let all original opponents have a go on the tracks and we submit their times. :)

So... when?
Maybe for next year? ;D  I've just moved country, changed job, and my laptop is slowly exploding. A lot of things need to stabilise before I can find time for that, sorry!

BonzaiJoe

I think it's interesting that all the records have been static for five years. Have we reached the limit?
But we can't be quite sure.

BonzaiJoe

Yes, so all SIX records have been static for nearly 5 years  :P
But we can't be quite sure.

Let's say it wasn't interesting enough.

BonzaiJoe

Well, I'm not gonna beat any of them.

Default: don't know how
Bernie's: already got it
Joe's: don't know how
Cherry's: too much RH and un-rewindable replays
Helen's: too much RH and un-rewindable replays
Skid's: already got it
But we can't be quite sure.

Don't forget about the "new" permanent circuits: the best tracks of each years.

I suppose there would be two records for those - one with Indy and the other with the winning car of the race?

ANY NEWS?  ::)

Sorry, I was busy with other stuff. But now we can store replays on the website, so it should be easier to store replays for the permanent competition as well.

Let's say in a month or two ;D

edit: maybe less, on Friday I should finally get a keyboard —it's been hell coding without one!
